Freson Bros hosts every year different food festivals featuring foods from different regions of the world and Oktoberfest. This time around we went to Freson Bros located at 10720-142 Street in Edmonton. Traditional Ukrainian foods were served, including perogies, cottage cheese filled mini crepes, sausage, cabbage rolls, carrots in dill sauce. Salads and desserts were also served. Food was very delicious, fresh and hot - and cold (salads and desserts). On another note, Freson Bros. is a complete grocery store selling your usual foods found in any grocery store. Freson Bros. has an amazing fresh food section - salads, meat and baked goods departments, and an assortment of fresh dishes are served daily. This review is for the salad bar and eating space only. I didn't do any shopping in the store, but I did get a delicious salad where I could select from two types of greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, cheese, macaroni salad, potato salad, chicken, hard boiled eggs, and more. There were always 6 or 7 salad dressings. I topped up with protein, and was pleasantly surprised when they weighed my salad and it was less than $7! They ran out of forks, and we had to go to the counter to ask for some, and they have a help yourself water station. It was quite busy, but we were able to find a seat. I would definitely go back to get a salad or check out the other ready to eat food items. read more

While Freson Bros is a bit pricier than most other grocery stores, it is nice to have an option for some specialty items in the neighbourhood. I'm a bit fan of their ready-made meal options for when you need a quick, easy meal. They could stand to add a few more vegetarian sandwich and salad options but they do have a tasty vegan caesar salad and egg-salad sandwich. The biggest draw for me is their buffet. As a vegetarian, it isn't really worth going to regularly but every so often they host a fully vegan spread and it is out of this world. Had the worst breakfast at the Friesen Brothers location on 142nd St. I think it's called Glenora, the eggs were raw. The pancakes were raw inside and everything else was so overcooked. It was the worst one out of 10 don't ever go there they're understaffed and the food was the worst. read more

Be careful about how much you are paying for items at Freson Bros. Make sure you ALWAYS check your receipt before you leave the store. On March 28, I was charged $7.24 for one can of pop (about 300% over the advertised price). It was labelled $1.99 on the shelf. When the store/management knows about this and it continues, then it's a SCAM! I contacted them through their Website and was contacted the next day. The person said he would do his best to get this corrected but that was all he could do. He mentioned that prices don't always get corrected by management (i.e., in other words this is an ongoing issue). I went in on April 10 to get my refund for this "error". I wanted to see if this was fixed and guess what, the same price came up: $7.24 for one can of pop. The cashier said the same thing (i.e., management knows and this likely won't be corrected). So this time I sent an email directly to the store manager: Jack Nazaruk. I have not received a reply to this email even though one was requested. Well as of today (3 weeks later), the same overcharge came up. Yes, I was charged $7.24 for one can of La Famiglia Lemonata. I asked to speak with Jack. He actually did receive my email but could not be bothered to reply. His words and body language showed an "Oh well!" attitude. No apology! He said that they could not put the correct price in the system because the UPC code could not be changed. I disputed this. One, tech knowledge is amazing and could figure this out. Two, I also suggested that they train cashier staff to enter/adjust the correct price at checkout. He said that this is not a scam. Well, if you know that the price at the till is about 300% more than it should be and NOTHING is being done to correct this, then yes, you are scamming people. Basically, if every store in Canada that sells this product could figure out the UPC code to ensure the price at the till is correct, so could Freson Bros. if they wanted to. They clearly don't care that they are scamming you! As well, if something is labelled one price and then they charge a different price (knowingly) then this seems to fit under False Advertising under the Competition Act. How many other items are charged incorrectly at the till? ALWAYS check that the shelf prices match the till price because the bottom line is: FRESON BROS. CANNOT BE TRUSTED. read more

Love the location! The store is a lot smaller than the other location in the South side. It's got all the same elements though. Attractive. Well organized. Supports local and other Canadian companies. I appreciate seeing products that I don't see at the other regular grocery stores. Our favourite staple is still the Alberta Sourdough bread. I'll never get sick of this bread! Sooo good! My toddler also appreciates the free ice cream treats from the cafe. This place is closer to where we live so we'll definitely be back! read more

Very clean and bright store. Staff are friendly and very helpful. I was very disappointed in the prices of everything. I bought 4 items for $50.00 very expensive. Not worth the price for quality. My brisket was pure fat and gristle. Tough as nails after pressure cooked for 2 hours. However the potatoe sourdough buns melt in your mouth. Fresh baked. All staff wear uniforms which is very nice. I was initially super excited about having a Freson Bros near my home as I had fantastic experiences with the one in Drumheller and Mullen Rd. I have been nothing but disappointed with my 6 experiences here!!! Initially, I thought it was just ironing out glitches as it is a brand location but that is not the case. The chicken in the restaurant is always dry. The mac and cheese is dry and lacks cheese. The pulled pork sandwich is also dry and lacks flavor even though it is slow roasted for 18 hours. They have a huge sign at the front door advertising "Free Ice Cream for Little Kids". When I went last night with my 7-year-old to get his free ice cream while waiting for our pizza order to be ready, the staff member said that he was too old to redeem the ice cream. The last time I checked, a 7-year-old is still a little kid. The staff member told me that that it is for kids 6 and under. If they are going to have age restrictions it, maybe don't put a huge sign advertising free ice cream to kids and crush all the children's spirits. I also spoke to a store manager with the 2nd bad experience I had with the food hoping that they would take the feedback and make changes, but nothing has changed as far as I can see. read more

The bakery uses proper sourdough for most of their baked goods including the bread, cinnamon rolls, and pie crusts. Real sourdough only has a few ingredients: flour, water, salt, and natural yeasts and bacteria. Fake sourdough has cultivated yeast, sugars, preservatives, and other questionable ingredients. All Fresno's have hot food options including a grill that cooks burgers and other meals to order and themed buffets. Weekend brunch buffet has lots of options and you can get your eggs cooked to order. Groceries are probably 15-25% higher than other stores but they offer some unique selections. In Edmonton, the Freson brand is considered a premium product with prices similar to brands like Save On Foods or Sunterra. read more

Very expensive small grocery store with a terrible "no backpack" policy. Not very helpful for people commuting via any other transport other than a vehicle (walking, biking, scooting, etc). Don't want high school kids with backpacks in the store? Don't build next to a high school. Also have heard from other groups and Google reviews that their security is targeting indigenous and people of colour about the backpack policy more than white folks. The only thing worth going to this store is their take and bake pizzas ($15 each or sometimes 2 for $25) but for exclusionary policies I can get pizza somewhere else. read more

I've always had a welcoming experience at Freson Bros, the atmosphere is top notch and the customer service has been good. There are somethings that are pricey, but their quality is great, so look out for sales! However, the point of this review is to shout the butcher Carlos.
