One woman functioned as the sole waitress AND cashier. An older Oriental woman cleaned tables and took drink orders. A woman from the kitchen would deliver plates of food to the tables. The place was about half-full with customers. Service seemed a little hurried. If the place had been full, I think service would have been very slow. The food was ordinary Calabash-style fried seafood. I had the fried flounder and shrimp combo. Serving sizes seemed a little small to me. The meal was served on a luncheon sized plate. There was a small piece of flounder, a barely adequate serving of fried shrimp, white cole slaw in a small shallow bowl, and a few French fries lay across the seafood. The French fry serving was so small, it was more like a garnish than a side item. A basket of hush puppies arrived after I placed my order. The food was not bad, but, in small town Calabash, famous for its many seafood restaurants, you cannot be ordinary. I would not go back to this restaurant. There is better value and variety at the nearby Beck's, Ella's, and Seafood Hut restaurants.

We came after going to the aquarium due to the reviews. It started off very well, our server was giving us options for what to get and what tastes better and working with switching out sides , so great customer service on that one! After we ordered ....ghost town. We waited over 30 mins to get our order and once it came cool again. The menu stated the "seasoned fries" no season, the shrimp was battered shrimp fried. The collard greens tasted like straight vinegar and hot sauce. My son said his burger tasted like dirt but they forgot the cheese on his burger. After we ate my husband asked for a refill and our server went MIA. The table behind us even asked if there was a shift change due to no one coming by to help. After a few more minutes went but I stopped the nearest server to ask for a check and a box and she looked as if I asked her an off the wall question , shrugging her shoulders saying "idk , idk where your server is" ughhhh ok lol I guess they don't just help as they go along. Then our server came and we checked out. Overall it's just a tourist spot I think it would be better off going to mellow mushroom next door or hitting up WaWa on the road back home. Food was nothing above "cooked food" the chicken didn't taste smoked, all the burgers should be labeled off as coal Pattie's due to them being so dry. The hush puppies were like dry mattress balls. Just go elsewhere.

Kicked off the meal with some grouper bites. Wasn't sure what to expect from them, but pleasantly surprised. They were lightly battered. The grouper was light and flaky and really delicious. They give you a sauce called "Yum Yum" so dipping them in the sauce was a nice touch. Kicked off the meal with a nice fresh side salad with raspberry vinaigrette. Nicely done. Went with the blackened salmon dinner on rice. The server was terrific and very attentive and the meal came out quick and hot. The blackened salmon wasn't overly blackened. The fish was not fishy tasting. The rice and the steamed veggies were both terrific. Slide a cocktail in your hand and just kick back and relax. This is an excellent place.

My granddaughter ordered Chicken pasta-she said it had a strange taste and didn't like it. I tasted it and there was a strong peppery taste that was off putting. I had Raw oysters which were fine and blackened grouper which was overcooked but okay. Just not as good as I heard and a price of $120 for 2 adults and 1 child.

First and foremost, eat here for the complimentary garlic bread! The Man thought it was the best…read moregarlic bread he's ever had and wanted me to make sure to mention it. Thought I'd lead with that tip. Ramando's reminds me of the place my grandparents used to go to when they came to MB every year for their annual vacation. The decor is old-school, and could stand an update. The food is quality products, and could stand an update. Even the music playing is solid (who doesn't love 90 minutes of the Rat Pack?), and could use an update. All that said, other than updates, I have no notes. Arriving, the outside looks, well, like it needs an update, if not just some regular maintenance. Outside there were vine engulfed European garden statues. Overgrown plants. Walking through the front door felt like walking into the late 70s or early 80s. Giant ship's wheel light fixtures. Multilayer and multicolor table cloths under a plexiglass topper. Complete with what looks to be throwback paper placements with all the classic cocktails listed out. And... appropriately lit, clean, open, inviting and smelling lovely. We were curious. It wasn't busy, but it was also already close to 8 pm. Granted it was a Saturday night, and shoulder season in this family beach resort town, so we didn't judge. I can't help but wonder if a few updates to the food and decor might not help though. After we were seated our server greeted us promptly. Magdalena (sp?) was lovely. Big smile. Warm greeting. Drinks and water arrived in good time. My Cosmo was made with Rose's lime juice. Not my favorite, but I also know that if a bar isn't doing enough business it's difficult to keep fresh juices on hand without waste. Even with the Rose's, it was well-made, my well-balanced and tasty. The Man's Manhattan was good. Solid, was the word he used. He had wine with supper. I would have had a rosé, but there wasn't one by the glass. For dinner I ordered the Chicken Ramando's with gluten free pasta. Everything was well seasoned and prepared, although the pasta was a little over. Not a big deal in my book. I'd rather that than under. This is where I think a little update could help. Chicken Ramando's is billed as pan sautéed chicken with fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, carrots and feta cheese over pasta. I was thinking it would have a nice, light lemon and wine sauce, almost like a scampi or maybe finished with a little butter for richness. Keep it light and fresh, but still luscious. The chicken was cooked perfectly. (They prepared mine without what would apparently be the usual flour and breading.) it was laid over the pasta and then smothered in a cream sauce and the feta. The veggies were super sautéed (maybe prepped earlier and recooked to heat resulting is super duper sautéed?) and laid alongside either side (think rows, like a Cobb salad). I don't want to say the veggies were hammered, because they were still moist and juicy, but I almost forgot there were supposed to be carrots in there until I realized one of the shapes didn't match the others. And don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. It was okay. I gave it 4 stars because it's being exactly what it's always been and killing at that. It was, just unexpected. Unexpected because it's a beach resort area. It's a lot of families with kids. While grandma with her walker is also here and wanting to relive happy memories, there is room to cater to both. Maybe have two versions: traditional and modern? I get wanting to hold onto the traditional recipes too. I've watched way too much Gordon Ramsey that I can hear chefs in my sleep shouting how everyone loves the food! But let's be clear, a lot of the time they're being polite because they don't want to get into an uncomfortable conversation. If I were cooking this dish at home, my modern take, if you will.... I'd have the bed of pasta (it would also be killer over an orzo or rice pilaf), as they did, but I'd lay the sautéed chicken breast over it and then top it with a skilleted mix of freshly sautéed to al dente veggies with garlic, (chile pepper flakes, if you're so inclined), lemon juice, white wine and finish with butter. I'd pour that over the whole shebang pasta and sprinkle some feta over it along with some parsley for garnish. Maybe some finishing olive oil. Done. Same dish, but lighter and super flavorful where I could identify each veggie and taste them as well. With just a couple tweaks here and there, Ramando's could have a renaissance. I hope they're able to find their way there. The area needs them and their cuisine.

Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable Italian dinner turned into one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had. We received a coupon through our hotel's coupon packet offering a free entrée with the purchase of another entrée. The person who gave us the coupon even registered it using my driver's license. Although the restaurant itself was nice, our waitress was extremely unfriendly from the moment we arrived. She never smiled, was very short with us whenever I asked questions about the menu, and made us feel as though we were bothering her. My husband and I are always friendly, courteous, and respectful toward restaurant employees, so her attitude was particularly disappointing. I ordered manicotti and specifically requested meat sauce, but instead received marinara sauce. Another disappointment. When it came time to pay, I presented our coupon. The waitress walked away and then returned, informing us that in order to use it, we had to purchase either an alcoholic beverage or an appetizer. We explained that we couldn't drink alcohol for health reasons and that an appetizer would be too much food. She then suggested that we could order dessert instead, so we agreed and ordered the Italian rum cake specifically to satisfy this requirement. We assumed the coupon would then be honored. Our credit card was charged $52.63. My husband's entrée was $28, we paid an additional $4 for two salads, and I ordered a Pepsi along with my manicotti. We also purchased the Italian rum cake because the waitress told us it was necessary to use our coupon. However, we were left with only a credit card receipt showing the total charge, with absolutely no itemized breakdown of our food, discounts, taxes, or possible service charges. It wasn't until we returned to our hotel that we realized we had no way of verifying whether the promised free entrée had actually been deducted. We also couldn't determine whether an automatic gratuity or additional fees had already been included in our total. Customers should not have to wonder whether a promotional coupon was honored or whether they were charged additional fees. An itemized receipt should make those details clear. Despite the waitress's unfriendly attitude and disappointing service, we still left her a $20 cash tip on a $52.63 bill -- approximately 38%. She simply took the $20 bill and walked away without so much as a thank-you. After the way she had treated us throughout the meal, that was particularly upsetting. What makes this experience even more frustrating is that we went out of our way to comply with the waitress's instructions regarding the coupon, even purchasing a dessert we hadn't originally planned to order. This is not about the money. It's about honesty, courtesy, transparency, and treating customers with respect. We have dined at many restaurants throughout Myrtle Beach and have generally had wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, this was not one of them. We hope management will review our transaction, explain whether our coupon was applied, and clarify whether any gratuity or additional charges were included in our bill. Based on our experience, we would not return to Ramando's Italian Grill, nor would we recommend it to others. Very disappointing from beginning to end.
