I've been coming to Ono Grinds for their amazing cold brew for awhile and finally got to try their poké today for lunch. The line got pretty backed up while I was there which is probably a combination of a umber of things: people not knowing exactly what they want, take out orders, and the area where the ingredients are placed is kind of small. ONO has a good selection of fish and free and premium supporting ingredients. I went with a small make your own with half marinated tuna and half salmon and the fish quality was exxxcellent. I don't remember all my toppings but I definitely had pickled ginger, tobiko, watermelon radish, marinated onions, seaweed salad ($1.50 extra, it's always extra at poké places and tbh I don't get why), and fried onions all topped off with spicy ponzu and a side of sriracha mayo. The small bowl was quite large with a generous helping of fish then packed to the brim with the other toppings. The service is always sweet but also disorganized and they always seem to be out of something when I'm there - out of cold brew for the day at 1 pm, out of furikake on a Monday at lunch. The seating situation is also pretty crappy. There's basically only 2 tables for 4 people then counter seating that's covered in magazines. Also, the entire time we were there they were constantly running the blenders and we could barely hear each other talk. Maybe consider sticking those things in the back because the space is too small to have 1-2 blenders running just a few feet away from the tables. I think ONO is more of a 3.5 but it's a relatively new small business and is clearly family fun so I'm giving it the bump to 4 with the hope they improve a little in the future so I keep coming here for my poké lunch fix! read more

Fresh, clean, friendly place! As I write this now, I am enjoying my lovely spicy tuna bowl and islander smoothhie. Gotta love that happy hour bowl special. At first I balked at the price, but even at a smalls, you get a LOT of food for your buck. This meal will last me all night while I study for my exam, so thanks OGP! PS. This place is incredible!!! The food is fresh and delicious and the owners are incredible sweet! So far I have tried their rice bowls as well as their chia seed pudding. I actually think their pudding is better than Playa Bowls which is another local bowl spot that students love. The chicken bowl was so good and the rice is sticky which is they way I love it! There are so many options to mix and match. I personally don't eat fish but the fish options look incredibly fresh as well! Plus, they take Raider dollars for any Rutgers student and they have student discounts! It's a bit of a walk but if you value the freshness of your food I think it's well worth it!! read more

This place is amazing! So tasty the fruit is fresh and hard. I say this because I hate when I bite into fruits and they're soggy. Not this place I had a kale and coconut base with all fruits on top: strawberry, mango, kiwi, grapes, coconut shreddings, and a drizzle of honey. Pure Heaven! This will be my go to all summer long as it's so refreshing. Loving Ono Grinds Poke so far! You can customize your bowls to your heart's content, and have a healthy lunch that somehow still feels indulgent. Super fresh veggies and generous amounts of fish abound! Lots of sashimi-quality fish, veggies over rice or quinoa or zoodles, and enough food to really fill you up without any guilt. It's a bit on the pricey side, but for good reason. Delivery is prompt and delightful. I would have popped for the 5 star rating, but for two reasons. First, the salmon in my last poke bowl was not exactly sashimi-quality. I actually wound up eating just the veggies and the rice, and skipping the fishy fish. Second, they never actually seem to use the dressing option that's ordered. Perhaps it's there, but really not enough to even detect. We look forward to ordering more soon! read more

This place is AMAZING! Best Poke spot I I've found. Usually when in in New York I'll pick one up on my way back to Newark but I stopped here in hopes to find a closer place. I went inside and everyone was super friendly. AND THE FOOD IS SO FRESH. I was told to look at the menu to see what I liked and they were very helpful and even recommended me what sauces to try. I even found out they deliver acai bowls, smoothies, and juices as well. They also do uber eats which is nice a cold day. I've been coming here for a couple of years now, and honestly this place should be an easy 5+ stars. The quality of the food is impeccable. It serves the hands-down best acai bowls I have ever had. The poke bowls are also incredibly delicious. However, I rate it 3 stars because the service is pretty poor. Don't get me wrong, the staff is polite and typically welcoming, but the speed and accuracy of the orders they create leaves a lot to be desired. If you order ahead, there is a 80% chance they will mess it up. I can't count the amount of times that I had to correct an order because of missing ingredients or being served toppings that I didn't want. It is very frustrating because they use top-tier ingredients and the food is so damn good! It is expensive, but I don't mind spending extra for high-quality food. The fact that I keep returning despite the constant errors should tell you something. Please train the staff to read the order receipts properly. They are very kind and I'm sure with some additional training they can elevate this place to a 5-star juggernaut in Newark. Try these guys out, just be prepared to correct some mistakes if you order online! read more

OMG! I don't even know where to begin! I guess I will start with the food! FRESHNESS is an understatement. Everything taste fresh and the combination of salmon, Brown rice and a wealth of yummy vegetables topped with wonton crisp is the perfect bite. Because I like spicy mayo , I got a little bit of that too on top. In terms of price, I'd say it's reasonable. I once had a poke bowl in Jersey City and the price was around 15 bucks. This restaurant is amazing ! The delivery guy always comes early which is good. I discovered this place by Rutgers University which is the college I attend. I went in for my first smoothie of the day, I got the Energizer Monkey smoothie ( which is DELICIOUS and has peanut butter) and the place was clean. The woman at the register was so nice. Their food makes me energized and it helps with my vegan diet. . They also give discounts for College Students, especially if you're from Rutgers. Thank you for the amazing service. One of my new favorite places HAND DOWN! The best part is that it's right outside my front door. I first visited this place exactly one week ago and yesterday was my 3rd visit. Upon walking in I fell in love with the decor, they definitely played up to the selfie era, while making you feel like you just had a virtual get away to Hawaii. The customer service is great, and the food is delicious. You're not made to feel rushed along just because there is a lunch rush, however, they still move fast enough to keep the line moving. I've had an Acai bowl, the tofu teriyaki bowl (switched my sauce to spicy), and a half and half pitaya/Acai bowl. Yes it is pricey, but given the ingredients to everything you would understand why. I do agree with one of the other reviews, they should come up with some kind of weekly giveaway or rewards program. I think it would fit the environment. All in all, if you haven't visited yet... Their açaí bowls are really good BUT their poke bowls are okay there was only one slight problem that I didn't like. (Other people might not even think this is a problem. This is my own opinion even if it sounds crazy) I'm pretty sure they don't use sushi grade rice. The rice that we're put In my bowl seems like something I can eat with any Filipino or any Asian main dish. It didn't taste good with the raw salmon and tuna that I got. They definitely still have a few kinks to work out and customer service is really slow, even when there's only two people in the restaurant. This place is friggin awesome. Access to this joint was one of the perks of working in Newark when I did. Yes, ordering delivery food with raw fish in it sounds risky, and even then the poke was still fantastic. I ordered the menu items. I wasn't such a fan of the poke bowl with the minced tuna, but the Fresh Coast bowl, umami bowl, and Maui Wowie bowl were my jam (jams?).
