I have officially had the best sandwich in my life, thanks to this place. I'm visiting a friend,…read moreand found Cheese and Crackers on Yelp. I'm not a sandwich person, but my 16 year old is, and I wanted something I could eat to-go. You can smell the scent of yummy as you walked into the door. It appears to be a gourmet grocery store, specializing in sushi grade seafood, pasta from Italy, fancy cheeses, meats, caviar, and sodas from around the country. They had diet Cheerwine, even. I've never seen so many different root beers in one place- there was even a pumpkin root beer! There wasn't a BLT on the menu, but they custom made one for my son, and he added pesto and provolone. He declared it the best BLT ever, and knocked his favorite sandwich place back home to second place. I had the Thanksgiving everyday. A $16 buck sandwich, I was skeptical it wasn't going to live up to its price point. However, it was worth every cent. It was turkey, goat cheese, and homemade cranberry sauce on sourdough, and grilled panini style on a press. The turkey was sliced fresh- everything was made fresh. The taste was absolutely amazing. I live in California, but hate most sourdough bread, because that tang tastes spoiled. You don't have that weird taste with Cheese and Crackers sourdough bread- it's just delicious toasted buttered bread. It was the right texture and made it crunch. The crew appeared very hardworking and enjoyed their jobs. We were greeted kindly, and felt welcome. I use a walker, and was able to navigate the store, but note the space is kinda small. Since I don't live here, I'm going to do my best to recreate my sandwich at home. Cheese and Crackers- thanks for teaching me about a delicious flavor combination, and for providing an enjoyable epicurean experience.

It IS a grocery store in that it has produce, a meat and seafood counter, as well as dry goods, refrigerated items and a robust set of upright freezer cases - mostly full of items not normally found in the US. They also carry many American staples when those are needed in a pinch, but the focus is clearly on what's not available anywhere else in the area. That said all the produce is top-notch and beautifully displayed/maintained. The meat/seafood selection fresh (and more so) frozen is pretty extensive, even down to how things are sliced and/or shaped. Then there's the bakery which is past the checkout lanes all the way at the far front-end of this place (which is the size of a large Aldi's). I'm pretty sure I saw a loaf of bread or two in the grocery areas, but they did not suggest the kind of exquisite baked goods on display when you enter the area - in both the grab your own area (croissants, bagels, donuts) and the counter glass case (fancy pastries). They're not cheap, but also fancier then you may even find at say Martinelli's and my creme-filled croissant was an epically delicious mess! Without burying the lead for some folks, because I was there around 9 AM, I didn't smell anything savory cooking yet, but behind the bakery are several more separate food stalls that make up a mini Asian food court for yummy things like noodles, bibimbap and ramen. I hope to come back and sample them soon.

This place has quite a lot of selections of food items including my favorite exotic fruits durians. There were lots of dried good items that we got as well as food courts that we brought food.

Yes you have to get and put back your own shopping cart with a quarter to unlock the cart which is returned to you afterwards. Yes you can't use a credit card here, cash is king. Yes there is no grocery bags, but the produce often is fresh and inexpensive with weekly sale items. They have milk at a ungodly low price of 1.50 when I went this past week which is so cheap it makes you wonder... I would steer clear of some items that are clearly not made in the USA or farm raised etc... On the other hand dry goods and fruits from the USA may not be a bad selection. Check out was fast for a aldi and also the inventory of this store appears to be larger than other places. Pros: cheap dairy, lots of discounted items, fresh produce Cons: no shopping bag, off brand, lots of farm raised outside of the usa fish which make you nervous about contamination Hidden deals: Check the weekly flyers usually it shows you the best deals!

A couple things to remember: bring a quarter if you plan on using a cart (you get the quarter when you return the cart) and bring shopping bags. They don't provide bags, but you can buy them if you need to. They also don't take credit cars so make sure to have cash or a debit card. All in all a great place to get groceries. Though it can get crowded sometimes, it's well worth it to save money on the necessities.
