My husband and I went to Fresh Catch Bistreaux for the first time after many visits to Marksville. I can't believe we hadn't tried this place until now! The décor is unique and fun. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff were helpful and courteous. We didn't have any beer this visit, but we will have to come back some time and try the beer they make in their very own brewery! (Broken Wheel Brewery) We decided to share the Duck Roll appetizer. I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were AWESOME! The sweet sauce that came with them was a great pairing. I highly recommend them. I got a Chef's Salad and my husband got the Asian Wrap. It was huge as was my salad. He loved the flavor of his. My salad was fresh, and more than enough to fill me up until dinner time. (I asked for it without tomatoes, but it usually comes with). My favorite and highly recommended is the Andouille Crusted Redfish, it is one of my favorite dishes anywhere. The potato crusted chicken is great as well. Service is poor to say the least. The bartender seems to be the only server in the entire restaurant and everyone seems more content gossiping in the kitchen or getting takeout delivered from other restaurants. Duck rolls were under cooked and tasted like they came from Costco. The "side" of onion rings (pictures) were under seasoned, extremely small, and ridiculously priced at $4. Fresh Catch is now home to Broken Wheel Brewery - a new small batch local brewery with some great beer. The names are all Avoyelles Parish names such as Spring Bayou Blonde and Pachafa Pale Ale. All are delicious! My favorite is the milk stout. The wraps are a fresh and good for lunch. Sweet potato fries are excellent! Daily specials are usually well priced, fresh and tasty. Fresh Catch is actually closed and the restaurant is now just Broken Wheel Brewery which was one of the worst meals we have had. Our burgers were cold, fries were just ok and service was so slow. People seem to come for the beer, but the food was not redeemable. We came and left hungry because the food just wasn't worth the calories. Lovely little local spot. 3 tables at 2pm on a Thursday- always a good sign. Drinks: Woodbridge= house Chardonnay. They just got their license to brew their own beer. My date had the pale ale & enjoyed it. The sip I stole was refreshing with a little bite. We dined on the fried seafood plate (lunch portion) & the crab & corn bisque. Our server, Chris, even added a side of french bread to my bisque & an extra hush puppy to the seafood- lagniappe! The bisque was creamy & delicate with ample crab. Located in the heart of Marksville, Fresh Catch has become one of my favorite places to dine in! Delicious food awaits. Every time my family has eaten here, we have enjoyed the food, the service and affordability. The seafood tastes fresh, hence a delight for a mouthwatering experience. Several times while dining in, there was a beautiful blue eyed young lady who sang at the request of a family who were obvious frequent customers. Her VOICE was ANGELIC and moved me to tears! I don't know of any other experience in Marksville offering such personal request. Many of the wait staff greet customers by name in this cozy bistro. I was worried I wouldn't find a place to get a comfortable meal -- the casino here is open all night, but the smoke is really hard for me to tolerate. The hotel clerk recommended this place, which I hadn't even noticed although I drove by several times. Hurray hotel clerk! The food and service here were great (they took pity on me and served me some of their amazing bisque even though the kitchen had just closed). My daughter's favorite place, I only dine there with her, and only when it's requested. The food is average, the sauces simple and the service is about as attentive as a 4 year old with ADD. Dental Damage due to biting into and Oyster! No, it wasn't a pearl! I bit into a significant shard of shell while eating a fried oyster so hard that it hurt and found more pieces of shell in three of the six oysters I ate. I made a pile on my plate to show the waitress. When I told the waitress, she just apologized. I asked her to tell the manager but the manager never came to talk to me. I recently visited my dentist for my biannual cleaning and he told me (even though I did not tell him about the incident) that my molar (the same one traumatized by biting into the piece of shell) had a chipped filling and that I needed to have it replaced. I have a $60 co-pay! After sending two emails to the manager, I finally called him and he said he did feel it was his fault and that I should call Barnards, their supplier. read more

I was looking for a good steak so I tried the Peppercorn Crusted Ribeye and a couple of sides, the garlic roasted vegetables and the sweet potato chipotle mash. Everything was very tasty and the steak was cooked properly, though I would recommend that if you try the ribeye, have the staff put the mushroom butter sauce and green beans on the side because these garnishes, especially the butter sauce, are VERY rich and filling and it is a bit overwhelming. Very tasty but the steak doesn't necessarily need to be swimming in it. I'd rather it was in a cup/bowl and I could add/dip to my taste. The roasted veggies are very good, as well as the sweet potato mash. Pricing was pretty high for the ribeye, though other menu items seemed to be more reasonably priced. Keep in mind that this is an ala carte menu, so everything adds up. I will return and will try something a bit lighter next time. It was a decent experience. read more

Very disappointed with my to go order experience. I was so very hungry trying to find some place decent nearby and found this place. Checked out the website to see what food they had and their prices. Everything seemed decent. Ordered my shrimp poboy. Swung in to get my order and was surprised by the price compared to what was on the website. It was a $3 difference. I mentioned it to the lady behind the bar who then had someone else come speak with me. This is where I was completely displeased with my experience. He asked me if I went on the Facebook page and I said no. I never do. I always go to the websites. He commenced to rudely tell me that "It was just a few dollars", "I'll update the website", and that they had to up the price due to the pandemic. Not once did he offer to give me a reduced price. He just walked away from me. I was very hungry so I paid for it anyway. The poboy was not even worth the original price because of the size. It at least tasted good. I had catfish and shrimp and the catfish was not very great but the shrimp were. Our waitress was really confused and messed up a lot of orders. I never got a refill even though I was out of drink 1/2 way through my meal, she argued with someone in our party that his card was not his card several times. Overall, the food was not worth going back and what the back was in that tartar sauce? It was just nasty. This is just my review. We had been wanting to try this place for awhile, finally had a free night to drive down and do it. Wow! We were so impressed. The food was Fantastic, everything was fresh and so delicious. We started with the in house brewed beers, which were great. I had the blonde ale and my husband had the IPA. Then appetizers, which we had trouble deciding on just two because everything sounded delish! Chose the crab cakes and duck eggrolls. The best crab cakes I've had in awhile. Next we chose the flounder pasta and the fried green tomato special with the asparagus. It was all good! And the house dressing they make was yummy too, a banana pepper vinaigrette...yes please! It took the bartender at least 10 minutes to realize or acknowledge that I was standing at the bar. Once she did she proceeded to tell me that there was no open seats at the bar while I was standing next to an open chair the entire time I waited. The food here was quite good, but the five stars are for the Broken Wheel microbrewery which is based here. John's beer is outstanding. I tried the Pachafa APA with my crab cake burger. I don't even like hoppy beers (no flames, please), but the Pachafa was delicious. I would be singing its praises even more if Joan hadn't ordered the La Veille seasonal wheat. I bought my first growler after tasting the La Veille and am looking forward to sharing it w a friend who is into homebrew. It's worth driving a few hours to Marksville to try the beer here, no kidding. John is going to expand his setup soon; right now his operation is quite small. Well...my family and our neighbors headed to Marksville for the July 4th celebration. We stopped into Fresh Catch twice during our trip. The place is just awesome. The food, drinks and atmosphere are on point. Not to mention all the awesome brewed beers on site. Broken Wheel Brewery is going to be very well known in the not to distant future. read more

Nice atmosphere. Good service. Had a cup of the gumbo, which was filled with big chunks of deliciousness. Then had a cheeseburger, which was basic, but very flavorful with a fantastic, just - right char. They brew their own beer, so I tried an IPA and a pale ale which were both pretty darned good, but not exceptional. All in all a great experience, and we'll definitely return. read more

Great find in a small town. We were staying in town for work and decided to try this spot. I've been eating crab cakes across the state and I would order these again. Now the shrimp and remoulade salad, I'll be trying to figure out their remoulade recipe. It was delicious. Tangy and light for a mayo based recipe. The stuffed mushrooms were dreamy and the friend alligator was perfectly spiced. My coworker ordered the tuna entree with jumbo crusted shrimp--wow! Liked the name of the restaurant thought we would try the beer and we did go to it,,, we seated ourselves and the waitresses were all around us looked at us trying to find a clean table so we finally did in the middle of the restaurant, the waitresses were walking around us and looking at us but did not ask if we had been helped, I felt after about 20 mins of waiting they didn't care, and when these people came in 20 mins after us, my husband and myself, Oh my they jumped and couldn't show them a table, cleaned it off got them a menu and it was both waitresses and a bus boy. Gee did we feel special... so not... so I guess they thought they were better than us. My husband and I are both retired and we now travel the country in our RV. We were staying at the casino in Marksville for the week, and after 3 nights of terrible food there we decided to venture out into this small town to see if we could find something better. A couple that we were parked next to in the RV park suggested Fresh Catch Bistreaux. Little did we know that we would find such a gem! The atmosphere was very inviting. When we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and a welcome from the hostess and the wait staff. The dining room had a rustic, "New Orleans" feel to it and the high ceilings gave it a sense of openness. They had a great copper top bar with two old time scuba helmets serving as the beer taps. I had never seen anything like that before and I thought that it was very neat and original! They had a wide variety of liquor, wine, and beer and the owner who was tending bar was very personable and helpful. We ordered a couple of drinks and decided to walk to the back, where there was an outside, covered patio and a warm fire to greet us. When it came time to order, a couple that was sitting next to us gave us some recommendations. For appetizers, we had the crab cakes and the fried alligator. Both were scrumptious! The sauce that accompanied the crab cakes was to die for! For our entree I had the Eggplant Napoleon, which is fried eggplant medallions with a lump crab meat sauce on top. Now I'm an eggplant lover and I've had it a lot of ways, but in this form it was to die for! Thankfully I was only able to eat half of the serving and was able to take some home with me for the next day. My husband ordered the 16 oz. Ribeye, and by special request he got the crab cake sauce on top of it. It was cooked to perfection! And, it was so big that he ended up having to take half of it home with him! After finishing our meal and drinks we were thanked graciously by the owner and staff and we assured him that we would be back next time we were in the area. I really liked the food here, and enjoyed having lunch with my co-workers at least twice a month. But a recent visit has put a stop to it. I am lactose intolerant, meaning I cannot have dairy products unless I take the enzyme pills before eating cheese, milk, butter, etc. I met some co-workers for lunch not long ago, but did not have my pills on me. When that happens, I can usually find something on the menu that is diary-free, and I also let the server know that I need it to be dairy-free. I've never had an issue at any other restaurant. I like the chicken salad stuffed tomato, so I ordered that. I let the little girl know that I couldn't have dairy, and asked her if there were any dairy products in the dish, just to make sure. She went to the kitchen and came back to let me know that it was chicken, eggs and mayo. I said ok, that's what I will order. When I got my plate, it was topped with shredded cheese. I told her that I couldn't have the cheese and could it please be made without the cheese topping. She took it back and brought me another that was topped with carrots. I could see cheese sticking out from the chicken salad, and there were cheese shreds on the cucumbers that were surrounding the tomato. I told her that I could not have dairy products, cheese is a dairy product. I told her that it looked like the cook just scraped of some cheese, topped with more chicken salad, then put the carrot shreds to hide the cheese that was left. She then went on to tell me that chicken salad had dairy products in it. I said 'how'? She said that it had eggs and mayo, which were dairy products. I told her that those weren't dairy products. She said that yes, they were. By this time it was clear that she was going to argue with me and the problem was not going to be corrected properly, so I told her just to take it back and I did not want anything. She took it back to the kitchen, then had a b****fest with whomever else was in the kitchen about it, apparently she thinks I'm an idiot, and was going to let the kitchen staff know all about how dumb I am. My co-workers were sitting there in shock. We could not believe that she thought eggs were a dairy product, nor could we believe that a cook at a nice restaurant that we love would do something like that to someone's food, even after knowing that it was a dietary issue, and on top of all of that she was putting on quite a show in the kitchen. We saw the owner, and decided to talk to him, hoping to get the problem resolved. Apparently the owner also knows for a fact that eggs are a dairy product. He had an attitude and made no attempt to make this better. I do not see how a cook, server, and owner of a restaurant could not know the food groups. I do not see how a owner would let his staff act in such a way: arguing with customers over dietary needs, then not completely remaking a plate that was made wrong. I will not be eating there again, nor will I be suggesting that others do. The staff and the owner need to take some nutrition, customer relations, food preparation, and etiquette classes. They will only float on the Marksville 'class' of people for so long. read more
