*** 100+ YEAR HISTORY *** Seems like quite a few locations in Glendale and NELA are celebrating landmark birthdays right around now. In fact, Fremont Park just celebrated its official 100th in October 2025. Fremont Park is one of Glendale's first parks. Purchased by the city in 1922, it was named after early settler and builder, Orron/Orrin E. Patterson, who was one of the first three permanent American families to settle in Glendale. Back then, the 10-acre parcel offered a wading pool for the kids and a plunge for the adults. Then in 1925, it was renamed to honor the Explorer & US Senator to California, John C. Fremont. *** THE PARK'S FEATURES *** Today, the place is brand new and looks like it got a great facelift. They have astroturf SOCCER fields and fresh TENNIS courts, both with camps + lessons attached for those seeking to up their game or better their swing. PICKLEBALL fans can get overly "dink elated" to discover 4 dedicated courts. There are BASKETBALL courts, covered parking for about 25 cars to shield themselves from the summer scorch, and a wonderful SPLASH PAD. Of course it wouldn't be a park without a PLAYGROUND area. What's cool about this park is that it caters to the littles and to the big kids too. The peewee's playground is fully shaded and super cute with its blue playhouse. I even saw a few teens hanging out and enjoying the longest slide I've seen yet. It's only reachable by a rope climb to the top. I admit, it was refreshing to see teens playing like kids outside in the fresh air. *** TRAIN CROSSING *** There's a Model Trains Depot just across from the Tennis Courts and covered parking spots for those who are part of the ChooChoo crew. The model railroad (established in 1947) operates a monthly Open House schedule. Hours are on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays & 1st and 4th Mondays, but I'd check their website since things can change and these mini train replicas may have their own schedule at times: www.gmrrc.org. Glendale, CA After having breakfast at a nearby Denny's, my friend and I wanted to walk off some calories. My friend suggested this park - walking distance from her place. I wanted something that have an uphill, but she didn't feel like. The park is small, has tennis/pickle ball courts, a playground with soft matting, picnic tables, and benches throughout the park for resting. I liked the outdoor exercise equipment; I tried most of them and what an exercise I got. If I live nearby, I will come here every day instead of paying for a gym membership. Public facility on site, clean, fully stocked, and bright - unlike many park restrooms that are dark and smelly. Parking is easy, with spots both on the street and inside the park. read more

My childhood park got a beautiful makeover, and this was my first time back since the renovation. I was six years old the first time I came to Fremont Park. I'm not usually a fan of change, but they redesigned it with such thoughtfulness and heart that I can't even protest. Just to name a few of the updates, it now has eight tennis courts, outdoor exercise equipment, four pickleball courts, a basketball court, a soccer field, a splash pad, and winding walking paths. For a snack shop at a park, the selection was pretty impressive and unexpectedly high quality. Instead of the usual generic freezer-bin options, they carried a surprisingly curated variety of international ice creams and treats that actually felt thoughtfully chosen. The freezer selection alone looked like a tiny specialty market hidden inside a recreation center. The entire setup also matched the atmosphere of the park itself: clean, sunny, well-maintained, and quietly elevated in that very Southern California way where even the snack shop somehow has aesthetic range. read more

This park is one of the best parks in the area. The splash pad is so much fun. And the best part is that they have an amazing shaded area for the parents to sit. Most splash pads I've been to are fun for the kids, but the parents to stand scorching in the sun. This place has shade. read more

We've always loved this neighborhood park, but even moreso after the recent improvements. The City of Glendale really outdid themselves! This park now has exercise equipment, a fresh basketball court, a new soccer field, upgraded picnic tables, pickle ball and new tennis courts, and lots of shady areas. It's absolutely beautiful and very family friendly! It also has a nearby Starbucks and donut shop that are each a block away, which are super convenient if you're taking a stroll to/from/around the park. read more

Signs all over the park that say "no smoking, no E-bikes, no skateboarding etc..." all day long, nothing but men sitting at all the tables smoking, leaving their cigarette butts everywhere, and E-bikes zooming across the park. Either take down the signs or enforce the rules. Also, maybe the people of Glendale could respect the park a bit more. read more

am writing to express a concern regarding the use of the soccer field at this public park. Although the field is public, it appears to be consistently occupied by organized groups with coaches conducting paid training sessions. No matter what time I visit the park, the field is in use for what seems to be commercial activities, leaving no opportunity for regular residents to use it. I am a parent, and my intention is very simple: I would like to be able to come to a public park at any time and casually play soccer with my child. Not to run a training program, not to make money--just to spend quality family time. Unfortunately, this does not seem possible under the current situation. Public parks and sports fields are funded by taxpayers and are meant to be equally accessible to all members of the community, not effectively reserved for continuous commercial use by private groups. I respectfully ask that you: * clarify the rules regarding use of this soccer field, * confirm whether ongoing commercial use is permitted, * and consider implementing a clear schedule that guarantees free public access time for regular park visitors. I was excited for the pickleball courts but found out that they were only going to put 4 courts and they were going to charge. First of all, doesn't the city get enough from us, the residents, who pay taxes? Why are they asking us to pay? I can pay less to play at Smash and Dink, which is a privately owned business. Also, why only 4 pickleball courts while there are 8 tennis courts? Pickleball is way more popular and you can fit 4 courts on one tennis court. Lastly, what's up with all these sports programs? Looks like the park was renovated using funds from it's residents and some people are running their businesses on it. read more

I'm really disappointed with the fact that they put in a bunch of pickleball/tennis courts but require you to pay for them because apparently Glendale Tennis Academy is in charge of them. Last time I checked Pasadena & La Canada had courts that were free. Why can't Glendale have the same thing? Seems like a monopoly to me honestly. read more

The newly renovated Fremont Park in Glendale is clean, modern, and very family-friendly. There's plenty of green space, nice playgrounds for kids, and areas for picnics and sports. It's a great spot for a relaxing walk or spending time with family. The only downside is that some sports courts require payment, but overall it's a very pleasant park. read more

It's nice to have the park opened again, but I think the planners missed the mark by making this park mostly tennis courts and soccer field. I'm poor so I can't use either. I miss the ample green space the park used to have. The playground is nice but it could've been so much better. My toddler doesn't have many options here. We'll continue to come here as it's walking distance from us, but we sure do miss the old park. read more

They removed almost all of the open space to put in courts and sports fields. It looks like a military base. Absolutely hideous. Most of the park is now restricted to the (many fewer) people playing pickleball. No more picnics on the grass. No more kids running around in free play. An atrocity. The park is nice and family oriented. I was very disappointed to find the slides boarded up. They are really the big draw to this playground. My son found other ways to play and enjoy himself though. If the slides came back I'd give it 5 stars. read more

This is a great little park. I went because I wanted a playground for my daughter and this park has a HUGE play structure. I mean HUGE - like 2 or 3 stories high huge. The playground has wood chips so it is soft if kids fall. It has a nice swing set and a large grassy area as well. read more

This is a super dope park. What I love​ is that there's a small wading pool so the kids can enjoy. It's literally like 2 feet of water so it's super safe. There is a lifeguard but I can assure you, he won't be trying to save anyone's life. I'm not entirely sure what his role is other than supervision. The park is huge and there's plenty of parking. There's an awesome playground for the kids that's just a short walk away from the wading pool so it'll be best if you get a spot that's in-between both places. I didn't go into the restrooms so I can't comment on those. All I knew it was just an amazing park and definitely one of the best that NELA has to offer. Even if you don't have kids, it's nice place to just chill and relax. I highly recommend this! read more

All playgrounds in CA are closed but this one isn't roped off so ppl still go on. Most of these ppl aren't wearing masks. Figures. Old ppl sit on benches and puff away on their cigarettes. Both of these things should make me give it a low rating but it's really not the parks fault. It is a nice park. Paved roads for walking/scooting , tennis courts that you rent out, lots of trees and lots of grassy areas. I just wish the ppl were just as considerate. read more

My daughter loves this park. It is a great one from what I can tell as well. It is very family friendly. It seems like its a lot more than just a local family park. There are multiple jungle gyms here. The biggest of these has a cimbing structure with a 2-3 story slide! The munchkin absolutely goes crazy to get a chance to race down the two high covered slides. They have a whole bank of swings as well. The swings are for both kids and babies. Pro Tip: There are lots of picnic tables for a family outing or a simple game of chess. Be careful as there are wild rodents running around begging for grub. These rodents have giant fluffy tails and most know them as chipmunks. There are also a number of open grass areas. Thus the kids can play soccar football, catch or wutever. So if your in the area, kick the rugrats out and make them go play... read more

Ahhh!! Puppies, squirrels, and kids running around!! Too much cuteness in one area! I love the Armenian grandparents hangout sessions a lot more. This is a great park; I used to come here with my cousins when I was younger. When I visited the other day, a lot of wonderful memories came back. Parking can be annoying, but I've never had a problem, and trust me, I have to find the perfect parking spot. So if I'm able to find it, I'm confident anyone else will be able to. read more

The park is so cute and fun. We had my niece's birthday party here and my sister paid to rent the wading pool. The kids all had a blast. The lifeguard on duty, however, was completely useless. He was playing cards at one of the tables with his friends until someone from our group let him know that we needed the table for party guests. Then he continued to socialize with friends and play on his phone completely inattentive to the pool. He sometimes even had his back completely turned from the pool. At the end, he unplugged the pool to drain it, and then disappeared with it still full and kids still around. read more

A park is what you make it - it is a part of the community. As members of that community we are each responsible for picking up our own trash plus a little more. We can't expect the city to always clean-up our messes. Pitch-in vs. complaining! This park offers a lot of discovery zones for kids of all ages. I have a 1.5 year old who was a happy tyke exploring all of the play zones. The bigger kids are rambunctious; but they should be - this is a park! It has tennis courts, a half-court for basketball, a children's (big and small) playground, picnic tables and grills. Glendale model railroad club is also located here if thats your thing. Well paved paths that go around the park if you want to burn a few calories. Also, it is well shaded all around. The groups of older men who sit and play cards/chess give it even a more family oriented feel, as opposed to a bunch of young thugs sitting around smoking weed. We had a fun experience at the pool today for a friends birthday party. The on duty life guard however, was completely useless. He sat at one of the tables our friend had reserved and played cards with his friends, until one of the men in our group asked him to move so the party guests could use it. When it was time for the pool to be drained he got in the water and so quietly told everyone to get out. He started to drain the pool and then left with his friend. The pool took amount 20 minutes to drain but he only stayed for about 2 min of that, even though there were still kids all around. read more

I've been to this park several times over the years, but recently came with my kids while we had an open house session. We had grabbed a pizza from down the street and chose to picnic at this park and allow the kids to play. They have AWESOME play structures here with a few different structures geared towards various ages, but the main attraction is the structure that has super high, fast looking slides. My girls were really excited, but we told them we needed to eat first. We found a picnic table close to the playground and I noticed they have tennis courts, public restrooms and a lot of areas for picnicking and BBQs. The trees in the park are really mature so they offer a lot of shade. On a Sunday afternoon in early December, the park was not super busy, but did have the occasional birthday party, or group gathering. Once we had finished eating, my kids were at the playground in lightening speed. The playground area has a mulch flooring and my girls were pretty much on the high slide structure the whole time even though my 3 year old probably should have played on the other 2 structures. My 3 year old found the slides a bit scary, but ended up going on the blue bumpy one once she realized it didn't go as fast as it looked. She also liked playing around with whatever they have going up the staircase. The other kids at the playground were pretty friendly and my eldest had kids playing with her nearly the whole time. The area around the park is mostly housing and the streets aren't busy at all. It's right off the 134 which is what makes the park loud. There's no real parking lot so street parking for the most part and can probably get tricky if the park has a lot of people at it. We had a fun party, but the "lifeguard" didn't do his job AT ALL!!! He and his friends played cards at one of our tables until my friend asked them to move. Then they fooled around together, not watching the pool at all. He randomly had everyone get out to pour chlorine in it and mixed it with his foot. It was a fun venue, but I'm so thankful we had plenty of adults there to watch the kids. It was so disappointing that we thought we had paid for a lifeguard and the one that came was unfriendly and lazy. I hope that his supervisor got a good look at him. I feel that my daughter deserves a refund! He even left before the pool was completely drained. He came back to look for his debit card and still left before the water was empty! read more

This is on our list of top 3 parks. My daughter absolutely LOVES the slides here, in fact, she cries everytime I say we have to leave. It's large, has a lot of space to run around and play, and the large play area is pretty awesome. It has come a long way since I was a kid, in fact, I had never been to this playground once in my adult life, and I lived around the corner. I really like how this park is making improvements. The is little parking there, mostly street parking, and is pretty close to the street, but my main issue is that there aren't many benches by the play area, except for one or two park benches. But there is a cute little squirrel there that will approach you if you have food. He is pretty fearless. read more

This park has a lot to offer. There are tables on one side and frequently there are older men playing chess and checkers. Adorable. The play structure is large and has an awesome rock wall feature that the kids I have come with LOVE to climb. There is a good amount of trees so there is plenty of shade on hot California days. read more

The Good -very big park -plenty of tables for gatherings with bar-b-q stations -playground area with swings (separated equipment for 2-5, 6-8, 9-12) -tennis courts -little kiddie pool that is filled with water in the summer -bathrooms (although I have never used them) -basketball court -rose garden The Bad -grass is not taken care of, so there are patches of dirt everywhere -cigarette butts and trash on the ground is common -due to a lack of common courtesy and signs, dog poop in the grass is not a rare find -the playground ground is covered with bark, which is never cared for, so there is trash in it, hair, etc. I wrote to the city telling them to clean it and to consider getting rid of the bark, but got an automated response that didn't address my concerns. Since the park is way too dirty for my taste, I take my twins elsewhere (even though I live one block away). read more
