I wish I can give ZERO stars. Bunch of crooks. I called if there was a safety deposit available and got a positive answer and was asked to open an account with them to get one. I took appointment went all the way and got an account open ion their Fallon road branch. Next day when I went to this branch, the guy says I might not do much transactions and hence he will be unable to give me a safety deposit. Wasted two days for nothing and felt cheated. I don't even feel safe to put a penny in that bank even. Stay away!!! read more

Really impressed with the customer service here. I always feel welcome coming into the bank. I feel like "Norm" from Cheers, rather than an anonymous number. The personal service and the willingness to go out of their way to help individuals and small business owners is impressive. I would never use a big bank again! I have or have had accounts at all the major banks, including Ally on-line bank so it is with extensive experience that I write this review. I had a good experience with a refinance with FB and their ads always sound so great, so I decided to try it opening a checking and savings account there to handle the funds from a new rental property. I knew I wasn't going to be too happy when the moment you go to the door, you are required to buzz in just to go inside. Are things really that bad? At least make it so you swipe your ATM card. I'm sorry, but that is borderline discrimination when the employee decides you can go in based on your appearance - it is not like bank robbers go in displaying big guns! I'll at least give them credit for not installing massive bullet proof glass in front of the tellers as some banks have done so that you have to conduct your personal business loud enough for everyone to hear. I know they have this same system at San Ramon, but don't know about other locations. Despite the unwelcoming entrance, the staff were very friendly. I could live with that, but here's where it really went downhill: I had originally opened the accounts on-line, which was apparently not a good thing. I never received a "welcome packet" confirming my new accounts/information in the mail (been a month and never received anything - even Ally Bank sends info), I had to call to get the account numbers, I was told I would get free checks but after 2 weeks I called and was told no checks ordered but would put it in and then I was charged $8 for them (maybe because duplicates). The moment of truth, I had a tenant deposit his first rent payment via wire transfer. Not only did he have to pay a fee to send it, I had to pay $15 to received it, from the bay area even, not like it was from out-of-state or country! Seriously??? Popmoney - also has a fee. The only way to not pay a fee to deposit is for him to go into the branch or mail in a check. Fine, he's a busy exec who travels all the time with no desire to go into bank branches. So he sets up a automatic payment thru his bank's bill pay service. OK, that should work right? Nope, his check that was sent directly to Pleasanton branch made payable to me with my account number on it gets deposited into my account alright, along with a check of another poor customer that was made out to them with their own account number on it and there was absolutely no similarity in our names or account numbers. When I went online to verify the deposit and noticed the amount was much bigger than I expected, I discovered I cannot actually see the detail of any checks online unless I pay the monthly $2 check imaging fee! I can see to get it printed on my statements but to not be able to look at them online is ridiculous - none of the other big banks charge for that! So much for "nice small community bank that is not going to nickel and dime ya".... Fine, I'm sure this other customer is going to wonder where there money is so I decide to call the bank to let them know about this mistake. While you are logged in, apparently the only way to contact them is to Email them because they don't list their phone number under contact us. Tech savvy that I am though, I logged out and got the main 800 number off their general website. The nice FB agent explained why I couldn't see the canceled check online but offered to mail me a copy or he could print, scan and email to me at no cost. This was actually good because then I learned you should not download their Trust Defender security software if you already have an antivirus software (ugh, hate when my hubby is right) or it will block incoming emails from FB. After I received the check copy, I was able to convince the agent that that other person's check with their own account number on it should not have been deposited to my account. He checked with someone else who agreed and they would work on getting it corrected. Needless to say, there's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back - next time I'll just wait until they notice on their own and maybe go to the spa! Not sure how long I will keep these accounts there because so far I am NOT impressed at all. From my experience so far, I would say that this is a bank for folks who like to bank the old fashion way, ie walk into the branch (and I'm not that young myself) or at least likes to pay lots of fees and not do on-line banking. read more

The service here is great. When I arrived, there was one person getting helped and a second teller free. Both of us ended up taking a long time to get help because we had complex transactions. Soon three people were in line behind us. Then a third teller showed up... for three people in line! I've been at major banks where, with 20 people in line, two tellers work while 10 bankers sit and twiddle their thumbs at desks. Fremont Bank is the best. read more

I'd give them less if I could. They have been dragging their feet on a home refi causing a huge delay with the closing of two homes. The loan was supposed to have been a done deal on Jan. 24 and now it may be 2 weeks late!? Unbelievable. Don't rely on a timely deal if you use this bank. I chose to bank with Fremont because of it's convenient location and how informative they were when inquiring about fees and other financial services they offer. The customer service is considerably better at Fremont Bank than the bigger institutions I previously banked with. When I walk in I'm greeted promptly and provided what feels like a high level of service. Although I don't bring major amounts of cash to the bank, the tellers have taken the time to establish repport with me. The employees seem happy to work there which I believe is a good sign. This bank doesn't have too many locations but waives ATM fees when you use an ATM of another financial institution. read more

I was helping my parents downsize to a smaller house and Fremont Bank team did a wonderful job. They carried the no-closing cost loans that we were looking for at the best rates we could find. What was surprising was the amazing customer service and the personal service Fremont Bank provided. In today's fast paced work environment, you do not expect such personal service. Over a period of 7 months, after 8 offers and backing out on one house after being in escrow, my parents closed on their house in December. Laura was amazing-- she kept in touch with what was needed and was an absolute pleasure to work with. I was able to reach her on weekends, late evenings, while I was on vacation in Hawaii-- she was accessible the whole time. Homaira was great in providing the documents we needed to make offers (changing the pre-approval letters to match our offers) in a very timely manner. She was professional and friendly. Ryan had great attention to detail, responsive, and timely. The Fremont Bank team did a wonderful job. If there was a complaint to the whole process is Fremont Bank's requirement for Section 1 Termite Clearance prior to funding with over a 50% down payment. It may be the bank requirement, but it tied our hands given the timeframe and the outrageous repair bills termite companies charges. There was no flexibility to this at all. A complaint to the process, but not to the wonderful team at Fremont Bank. Because of Laura, Homaira, and Ryan, I would use Fremont Bank in the future. read more

All in all, I have had 2 refinances for my previous home and 1 new home loan for my current home all with Fremont Bank which means I've had to work with several different lending agents from Fremont bank. I can honestly say that I've had nothing but great working experiences with Fremont Bank. Each and every of their vetting process was strict, thorough but fair. I definitely felt like that I was working with a professional financial institution. Of all of the lending agents that I've worked with, I'd say that Laura, by far, was the one that made most impression on me. Throughout the entire loan approval process, Laura provided me with clear explanation of why, how and when each procedure that's taking place. She helped me navigate though some tough inquiries from the underwriter. I felt like I was getting some great insights on my finances from a financial adviser. Plus, with her past real estate experiences, Laura also shared some valuable advice with me for my entire real estate purchasing experience. I can't thank her enough for what she has done for me. We're on our 3rd home mortgage with Fremont Bank. When we closed on our 1st one, we opened up a checking acct so that the mortgage automatically deducted from the acct. Because of the automatic pymnt, the checking acct monthly service charged was waived. No problem here. Rates dropped and we refinanced this mortgage in early 2014. We elected the automatic pymnt again. Still no problem. Almost 6 months later, the lending dept called me and offered another refinance as rates had dropped. We went through the process and the papers were ready to sign. We were told we had to wait maybe a week or 10 days (I can't remember exactly) because it was not quite 6 months since the previous refi. No big deal. We signed, kept the automatic pymnt for the same day of the month and were told that everything would be seamless. This is where the problem started. My last regular automatic pymnt was in Oct 2014. Due to the refinance timing, we had an interest only pymnt in Nov. I went to the bank and wrote a check for the interest. Our 1st regular automatic pymnt for the new mortgage began in Dec. When I checked my Nov checking statement, I noticed we had been charged the $18.00 monthly service charge. I called the Cust Service Center and spoke to Gregory, who said I was charged because I didn't have an automatic pymnt in Nov. I explained that I was transitioning between the 2 mortgages and if there had been a way for Fremont Bank to automatically pay the Nov interest only pymnt from my checking, I would have done so. There wasn't. I had to either mail in my payment for pay in person (which I did). Gregory is a nice guy, said he understood and would forward my request to the lending dept for a reversal of the $18.00 charge. I gave it about a week then checked my acct. No reversal. I call Gregory again and he said he would forward another request. I waited another week. Still no reversal. I called Cust Service again and spoke to a young lady who told me that both my requests for the reversal had been denied. I asked her why no one had contacted me to let me know this and she couldn't answer me. I could have called them once a week forever and they would have been very nice, but nothing would have happened. She said it was the decision of the lending dept. She was very sympathetic and understanding and apologized for the "misunderstanding". I asked to speak to someone else and she said it was Fremont Bank policy not to reverse these types of charges. She said if it were up to her, she would do it, but unfortunately, Cust Service didn't have the authority to reverse a monthly service charge. She suggested I try calling the lending dept myself. By this time I decided to go into my local branch and close the checking acct. I just could not believe Fremont Bank would lose a customer that they're earning thousands of $$ over the lifetime of a mortgage loan on over an $18 service charge that was charged because of THEIR timing of the closing/opening of my 2 loans! I went into my local branch in Fremont and told the teller I wanted to close the acct. He asked why and I told him about the service charge that still hadn't been reversed. I also said that the branch is so close to my home that I could drop off my payment once a month. I told him I felt it was silly of them to lose a customer over $18 that wasn't my error. THEY had told me it would be a seamless transition from one mortgage to another and everything would stay exactly the same. He called the manager over and the manager reviewed my acct history and said the charge would be reversed. I asked the teller if he were sure and he said "well, if the manager requests it, it will be done". I left the acct open and made a deposit since a pymnt was coming due. I didn't want to not make the automatic pymt by closing the checking and possibly accruing a penalty. And the manager said it would be taken care of and I believed him. I waited another 4 or 5 days. Still no reversal. I think the manager probably never really followed-up. I finally went to a different Fremont branch to close the acct. Again the teller asked me why and (for the 6th time!) I told her. Again she said she understood but that the lending dept was really strict about charges. I closed the acct and rescinded my automatic pymnt. I don't understand Fremont Bank. I like to support local business and had no other problems with them. This happened over $18 that wasn't my doing. If I had been told when we signed that I would be charged $18 for the privilege of giving them my business, I would have closed the acct, dropped off my pymnts, and be $18 ahead. I expected a local bank that's proud of it's community relations would be responsive to my reasonable request. I feel I was misled and punished for refinancing my loan due to their timing error. I feel they never listened or took my problem seriously and that it's my fault for not having a Nov automatic pymnt! I'm SO disappointed that they would treat a customer this way! read more

Love this Bank - Love the staff - This bank is small in size but large and friendly in service. I have been banking with Fremont Bank for years and just have to say - I have never had a bad experience. If there is a delay in a line it is because the tellers are giving all their attention to the customer in front of them. When I get to the teller I am greeted and given the same attention whether my issue is big or small. Ok, so here I am reviewing a bank... why? Because they have gone over and above for me so many times for so many reasons that I could not have expected or known about beforehand. I always go in so they got to know who I was, which is GREAt. And they are so friendly and nice each time... but today my shout outs are for Raj Mutti, Branch Manager. Just last month my company had a glitch and deposits were not being electronically done but printed check, companies fault but.. they waived the 2 day wait period since they knew me both dates, because my bill pay was already schedule. And they waived the checking account charges. I thought this was going to be the end of my special needs but.. my ATM card was cloned and hacked, and Fremont Band was ON THE CASE. It was one of those ones where they literally cloned my card (still in my purse btw) and it was used in Southern California to withdraw $400 and $500 dollars. Fraud alert called me, my ATM was cancelled, they made sure NOTHING was bounced or returned (again, Bill Pay!!! so dates set). They hand checked and expediated getting the funds back into my account and then reversed all the overdraft charges before i even saw them. Banks are Banks are Banks... except when they aren't. And that is why I bank with Fremont Bank.... Thank you to everyone for always going above and beyond. read more

After 3 months, we just finished a refinance. My only advice is to run to a different mortgage company. They were completely incompetent. They kept asking for the same ridiculous information over and over even though financially, we qualified for the loan the first week. This process took so long, rates went up so we couldn't go anywhere else. Then, at closing, they had the nerve to make us pay points to receive the rate we had been promised with no points -- because rates went up!! Don't just take my word, ask realtors -- I wish we had before we started, rather than counting on the excellent service we received several years ago. Fremont Bank is not the bank they used to be. I have been using Fremont Bank for a few years now. I'm definitely impressed with the customer service, especially at this branch. I don't come in to the bank very much, but when I do I am always acknowledged right away and given great service.
