This is one of the first negative reviews I've ever written for a business, and I'm doing so after…read moremuch careful consideration because although I feel truly wronged, I dont want to make trouble for anyone. That said, having just made the first of many credit card payments for work I never would have had done given the full scope of what my vehicle needed, I feel compelled to prevent this from happening to anyone else. While the actual work done here seems fairly competent, the diagnostic process seems about as accurate as playing darts blindfolded. I brought my car in because it was creaking misfiring, and the check engine light was on. I told them that I believed my engine mounts were worn out and that I also needed a diagnoses for the misfiring. They told me that the cause for the misfiring was likely that my spark plugs and ignition coils were worn out, because that usually happens around 100k miles and my vehicle was past that. I agreed to have them replaced along with new engine mounts, to the tune of $2,600. I was told that after this my vehicle would be like a totally different car. The very next day, my car misfired again and the check engine light came back on. When I brought it back, they informed me that they don't have any way of knowing this fo sure, but I probably actually had a blown head gasket. I brought my car to a different mechanic shop who did a full and complete diagnostic from bumper to bumper and took photos of everything wrong with the car- from a blown head gasket to a leaking transmission to almost completely worn wheel bushings and a host of other problems totaling over $8,200 in addition to the $2,600 I had already paid at Red Rock Auto. Had I known this in the first place, I never would have paid $2,600 on a doomed old van that needed almost $11,000 in work done. I had to buy a new van and that $2,600 would have really helped with the down payment. I'm tempted to say that I feel duped, but I don't think there was any malice or fraud going on- just general laziness or incompetence in the diagnostic process that very negatively affected me.

I took my truck in to have them diagnose three issues as well as fix or recharge my AC. They…read morequickly told me it needed a new motor mount and that's what was causing the three mechanical issues. They then told me the AC was contaminated because the wrong refrigerant was put in. My truck has never once had a recharge of the AC. They said the full system needed to be flushed out to decontaminate and they would not be able to do that because of the liability of damaging other components. They recommended I take it to discount tire...not sure how a tire shop would be a better option than a full service shop. The motor mount was replaced and they called me for pickup stating it was done. I quickly went to pick it up to then be told they cracked a spark plug and it would just be a few minutes longer. 2 hours later, I drove off with my truck. None of the three mechanical issues were fixed or improved with the motor mount whatsoever. I took my truck to another mechanic for the AC to be told the condenser was cracked and needed to be replaced. Specially asked if they tested to see if it was contaminated. They did and said there was no contamination in the system. This was my first time trying AAMCO. Will never use them again. At this point I'm not convinced the motor mount needed replacement.

We were told it needed a new engine, although they didn't do any diagnostic tests on it except to read the OBD II code. We wanted a second opinion, so we had it towed to Ken Garff's service dept (downtown SLC). After they did a full and thorough inspection and diagnostics, they told us that the engine DID NOT need to be replaced. The issue was that the "knock' sensor needed a software update.
