I first came across these guys when I was taking on the task of rebuilding an old Jeep manual transmission on my own, and they were the only people in the valley who would help me get the parts for it. Then my Suburban hit 70k miles and the tranny went out in it. They were quick and reasonable in repairing it. Last year, after another 70k miles (magical number for a Chevy), the transmission went out again. Tip Top towed it, fixed it, and had me running again within 24 hours. read more

Biggest crooks I've ever dealt with. Do not bring your car here, they don't tell you how much your repair is going to be then expect you to just have 7500 dollars. They lie about contacting you and then they impound your vehicle adding more money on top of what they claim they're owed. Worst company I've ever had the displeasure of contacting. What they do is against Utah code and they don't care read more

Do not take your car here! They had my car for almost two months. It took them three weeks to figure out what was wrong with it and when they finally did it took them another 3+ weeks to actually fix it. I called multiple times to check on the status of my car and when I called for the second time (after about 2 weeks of them having my car) they told me to stop calling and that they would call me when they knew what was wrong. They never called me back!! I called AGAIN after another week and a half and they could finally tell me what was wrong and that it should be done within a week. I called back after two weeks and they haven't even started working on it. When they actually had finished they still didn't call me. I had to call AGAIN. Moral of the story: terrible customer service and definitely do not take your car here if you want it to get fixed. read more

I have a 2005 F-150 with 300K+ miles on it. I noticed it starting to hesitate when accelerating and assumed it was the transmission slipping. Ross asked if i was sure it was the trans and I said no I wasn't. They drove it, tested it, and accurately diagnosed the real problem - a cracked spark plug on cylinder #7. I was blown away!! I had no idea they did a LOT more than transmissions and would take the time to track down the root cause. They replaced all of the spark plugs (which is a beast on the 5.4L Triton), changed the oil, replaced the fuel and air filter for a fraction of what I thought it was going to cost. I have driven the truck hard for 2 weeks with no issues. They really fixed it. I cannot say enough about the expertise and integrity of the people at Tip Top. It is rare to find anymore. I will definitely use them in the future. Ross and his Team are awesome!! read more

I just purchased a vehicle for my daughter and within 2 weeks the clutch was out. After dealing with other places I found TTT. They had a waiting list but were very honest. Not knowing anything about vehicles they explained everything and stayed close to the quote given. I highly recommend them due to their honesty, fair estimates and they even helped me get the car as my daughter was at work. Very much a family vibe which was so helpful in a city. I will utilize them for future needs. Thank you! read more

Called about a transmission repair and was told $4000-$4500 over the phone. Took our car over and waited for a call to tell us the status of the transmission. After a week and half called them and was quoted a price of $7500 to fix the transmission in a 2007 Buick! This is almost twice the original quote. We are now in the process of moving the car to another shop down the road that has given us a written quote of $4700. read more

This is the best mechanic I have ever been to. Hands down. They fixed a tricky problem with a wheel bearing on an older truck that had been incorrectly repaired a week earlier by another shop in another state. I needed to get back on the road quickly, and Ross got the repair done as soon as possible while also being kind, clear, and attentive to my worries about the repair. That would have been more than enough to warrant a five star review, but Ross also called the previous mechanic, worked some magic, and got the other shop to pay for their faulty repair. I wish I could give this shop a 6th star! read more

Went to Jiffy Lube after hearing some weird problems. They quoted me around 2 GRAND and told me it was completely unsafe to drive, thought I might get a second opinion so I came here. THE HONESTY, integrity, and kindness I received was incredible. Not knowing anything about cars, they sat me down to explain the problem, told me the real danger of driving (none) and fixed the problem at a much more reasonable cost. Would recommend them to everyone!! read more

I had a very positive experience with TipTop, especially Joey and Gary. They were accommodating, friendly, communicative, transparent, straightforward, explained everything, and stuck to the budget. We were out of town and they worked to minimize our wait and kept us informed. Thanks so much for the great service!! read more

Joey and the crew at tip top were great to work with. Straight up, honest and no surprises. The car went from Utah to Denver and developed some Computer code issues. Joey immediately called a shop in Denver and Arranged for the issue to be fixed under warranty. We are now driving around with no further issues and recommend tip top. read more

I had a horrible experience with this place! When my transmission went out in Park City, I had a local mechanic check it out. They quoted me around $4200 to fix it. When I called Tip Top Transmissions, they told me they could rebuild it for around $2800 and would even pick up my Lexus in Park City. They ended up charging me around $4500 and when I moved out of the area (1300 miles away) they wouldn't honor their warranty (1 year/12k miles) when a seal THEY put on incorrectly caused my vehicle to leak transmission fluid and cost me over $300 to fix. I urge you NOT to use them. read more

I have a 98 suburban no one could fix it (spent 2 years trying to find someone who could fix it). Supposedly Advanced 4wheel drive is one of the best shops and they couldn't fix it and referred me to Tip top. They took alot of time and did a great job. There is not one else that is going to touch my vehicle. read more

If I could give this shop a million star review I would. They are amazing. Herb is by far the most knowledgeable, honest and caring mechanic I have ever met. I took my car to the dealership and to AAMCO for a bid and they both told me I needed a new transmission running me $2500-$7000. Herb researched and found the problem in one afternoon and was able to completely fix my transmission issue for $700. Every conversation over the phone with Herb was at least 15 minutes, he is so detailed and beyond knowledgeable and explanditory. I am so grateful I found this shop and that they where able to save me so much money!! Highly highly recommend Tip Top Transmission. read more

5/20/18. We were traveling in southern Idaho with our motorhome and the transmision on our tow car went out. We called them after another repair shop recommended Tip Top Transmision. We called and spoke with Herb and told him we would traveling through in a couple of days. I can't say how pleased we are with work that was done, how quickly they got the job done. Even though they had a full shop they worked us in and got us on our way at a fair price. Thanks Herb and to all the mechanics that worked on it. read more

I highly recommend Tip Top Transmission. Being from St. George, I was driving from St. George to SLC and started having transmission problems around Cedar. I could not turn around but I knew the transmission was having issues and going down hill. I started researching transmission places in SLC as I was driving. I gave Tip Top Transmission a call in hopes I could take it straight there. I spoke with Herb on the phone. Right away he assured me he could help. I got to Beaver and the car sounded worse. Herb recommended someone in Beaver, but I took the risk and kept driving. I kept calling Tip Top Transmission as I continued my drive and the transmission was surely going out. Herb was so generous to take the time to listen to my concern and frustration. He reassured me he could help if I made it to SLC. He even offered to have a rental car lined up for me. My car BARELY made it, but when it did Herb and his office crew were right there to greet me. Car problems are not fun and when you have people that are so kind it makes it a little easier. They were slammed as it was Fourth of July weekend. They ran the diagnostics and sure enough it had major transmission codes pop up. Here is the best part... I really appreciate how ethical and honest they all were at Tip Top. Herb went above and beyond by calling the dealer of my make just to double check that my 9 year old car was by chance still covered under warranty. To my relief is was! Herb is a genius to double check my vin and warranty- it never crossed my mind! My car had an extended warranty for its transmission! He saved me thousands! He had it towed right away to the dealer and I can't thank Tip Top enough! The dealership even spoke highly of Tip Top Transmission and recommended them too! read more

We were on vacation in Utah, traveling from California. We were having some transmission problems with our Honda Odyssey. Herb at Tip Top took great care of us. I highly recommend Tip Top! read more

The people at Tip Top Transmission are dishonest and untrustworthy. If you have another option I recommend taking your business elsewhere. I called Tip Top after our transmission went out while visiting Salt Lake City. We had it towed to the dealership, but he offered to come and pick it up, and assured us it would be done by Tuesday which was quicker than what the dealership quoted (It was Friday at the time). We were in a bad position because we were traveling at the time, so it was very important that the transmission was fixed as quickly as possible. Tuesday came and went and they still hadn't finished our Van.... it ended up being finished on Friday. When we went to pick it up we noticed that our racks which were holding several kayaks and a bike had clearly been ripped off the top of our van. When we asked them about it they said they had no idea what happened. They later admitted to driving it in the garage and ripping them off the top of our van. They did buy us new racks, but that didn't help with all of the new dents and scratches that it put in the roof of our van. The most angering part of all of this was that they weren't honest about it from the beginning. If they had told us they made a mistake it would have been fine, but they chose to lie, which makes me wonder what else they would be dishonest about in their shady establishment. read more

We took our VW Routan to Tip Top Transmission (as per Utah Imports' suggestion) after it got stuck in 2nd gear in September 2014. They recommended a transmission service and software update. The man there said that the update was 99% likely to fix our problem. The day it was ready, I paid about $350, thanked them, got in my car, and drove away. As I was merging onto I-15, I realized, shock of all shocks, the van was stuck in 2nd gear! I had just paid them all that money to fix the problem with their 99% odds reassurance and my van was literally exhibiting that very problem I had just paid them to fix! I couldn't believe it. I thought they would refund my money, but they said no, they had to do the update, etc, and they reminded me that he had only said 99%. Nothing was different in my van as far as I am concerned. Nothing. I quite simply feel like they played a joke on me and I paid them to have my van sit there for a week. It wasn't sitting well with me at all as I don't like feeling like I've been had, so I called them a bit later. The man went on and on about how they had to do what they did, they really did service the vehicle, though there was no way to prove it, and we are the 1% that has the bad luck to have the car that their 99% fix did not fix. He used the analogy that when you update your iPhone, it doesn't necessarily feel different. NICE, but those updates are FREE! The shop is very grungy and their office area appears to be disorganized. You would never want to have to wait there for service. Many people seem to have had good experiences, but my husband and I cannot recommend Tip Top Transmission based on ours. read more
