Several branches (Port Jeff, Ronkonkoma, Oyster Bay) stop at Mineola; thus I do not have to wait a long time to take a train back to Long Island. The ticket booth in the waiting room is closed on weekends, but the waiting room itself is open every day of the week and has benches where passengers sit down, waiting for their trains. There are USB ports for smart device charging that are attached to the benches in the waiting room (see photo below), which is a big plus. There are two ticket vending machines outside across from the waiting room, but I purchased my tickets today, 6/17/26, from the MTATrainTime app, using Apple Pay. Overall, the station has good police presence. I feel safe. The only downside is that the restroom toilet was disgusting, and there is no free parking. LIRR riders must pay for parking in a nearby lot.

It's easy to use, being ADA compliant, and also has colorful artwork within the station. African American artist Lisa Corinne Davis employs layered representations of maps in these 2024 public art mosaic murals taken from her paintings made of a combination of glass smalti, engraved glass cakes with color infill, and hand-painted glass. Before you enter fare control is "Tempestuous Terrain" and on the Mezzanine, flanking both stairs down the platforms are "Liminal Location." They're all worth checking out when you stop to take a moment to enjoy the trains passing by below!

Came here for an early morning legal appearance and learned this station is definitely not walkable to that office. I also saw a food cart outside the station, which is a good thing since there don't appear to be any food places you could safely walk to from here. If you have a car you're good but if you don't, you'd better hope you have a ride nearby. At least there's parking and I think they had a lounge you could sit in while waiting for your train to arrive. I probably wouldn't be here again unless I had to be.

I was taking the LIRR early Monday morning to visit my brother in Long Island. My go-to station…read morehad always been Penn, but Monday's train originated from Grand Central Madison. I'd never been -- the station is only three years old -- so I stopped by Sunday to (pardon the expression) 'case the joint out.' Good thing! I entered at Grand Central Station, followed signs and walked. Then walked some more. Took escalators, maybe an elevator. Finally ended up at ticketing. I don't think I would have allotted enough time if I hadn't known the layout beforehand. It was off hour. Not many people there. The customer service rep, a wonderful woman named Heather, wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing. She actually left her post to show me the tracks and helped me get my bearings. (Guess what! Heather was there Monday morning when I returned. I felt like I was seeing an old friend!) Here's a tip for everyone: If you don't want to deal with the underground labyrinth, look for the elevator on Madison off 47th Street. It'll take you directly down to ticketing and the waiting area. And specifically for older folks: To reap the senior discount, purchase your tickets the day of your trip, not before. There's no upcharge to buy tickets on the train. If I heard correctly, senior fares are the same for peak and off-peak -- but don't quote me on that! This station is light, bright, much quieter than Penn. Bathrooms are infinitely better. Now that I know what I'm doing, this may become my station of choice.

There are tons of escalators, so if you need to the catch the 2:17 train, you'll have to be in the…read morearea long before 2:17. And it's not the liveliest of train stations. But I have to award five stars for the clean bathroom. Due to basic geography, the ride itself is faster than Penn, so maybe if they were starting in 1908 they would have built Penn Station here, but consider all the terminated or "maybe someday in theory" rail links it's nice that this thing actually got built.
