The weather was perfect, so the manager gave us a table in light shade. It was around 2, so it was warm enough for everyone. The ice tea, and beer were cool and delicious. Our first course, fried pickles and fried cajun fish bites. Crisp bites and juicy pickles......hot side sauces, just enough to keep me happy. Second course. generous crisp cold salads. Third course, we all had different ribs. My Maui Maui ribs, just as I thought, light and sweet and seasoned with a nice pop of hot green. Auntie ate almost all her half rack of dried rub ribs. Filled up, she took some home. I haven't asked my boyfriend about his sweet ribs, but let me guess how tasty they were. ( I meant his meal.) For dessert, we chose key lime pie and chocolate pecan pie, to go. Best birthday party ever. Thank you, Alice, and all who worked to make our meal perfect.....!

Lots of seating in the dining room, bar, or lounge. Staff are very friendly and know the menu. Food was amazing and the portion sizes are very large. I would recommend this for the tasty food, great service, variety in the menu.

It looked pretty popular with a decent number of people dining in and a bunch of others picking up orders. The girl at the counter was super friendly and helpful because I had no idea how to order lol. She made a few recommendations and even helped adjust my random items into a combo for us. Prices are fair, ordered 3 meats and 2 sides for like ~$50. We got ribs, brisket, and pulled pork along with cornbread and mac and cheese, and it came with a fountain drink. Food came out pretty quickly, we didn't have to wait long. One thing I thought was fun was the bell by the door that you can ring if you had a good experience. We rang it on the way out and got a bunch of cheers from inside haha. The ribs were big, meaty, and cooked well. The brisket wasn't really my favorite, and the pulled pork was a little hit or miss since some bites were way saltier than others. We tried both the mild and spicy bbq sauces, and the spicy wasn't too spicy. Overall, a perfectly solid casual bbq spot.

I think my pulled pork sandwich, two sides (cole slaw and fries) and a drink pushed $17. That's more than I prefer to spend on lunch, but I was going out with some work friends and felt like treating myself. And it was, indeed, a treat! The pulled pork was very good - not overly fatty or anything. Good flavor. I tried the "original" and "sweet city" sauces - both were very good and not overpowering. The fries were good - a little greasy (but "good greasy" if there is such a thing). The creamy cole slaw confused me. It was a bit dry. I know, right? How is creamy cole slaw dry? I'm not sure if it's always like this, or maybe it was off the top of the batch and the "creamy" and dripped to lower parts. Don't get me wrong - it tasted good. We'll see how it is next time I'm there! Overall, a good BBQ stop. The pulled pork sandwich will be a standard order there, but I'm sure I'll venture out to some other dishes to see what they have to offer!

The items I tried were really tasty, despite being quite filling/heavy/rich. I enjoyed the meatloaf and pork schnitzel (definitely not an expert on this dish but it was so juicy inside and crispy on the outside w/ a really thin batter). Loved adding the mushroom gravy on top. We also got the onion rings while in the bar and enjoyed those. I had a draft beer from Potosi Brewing (local to WI) and enjoyed that a lot too. Our server was a little gruff but was pretty attentive. Ambiance is pretty interesting as it's a super old building, so very unique. Definitely don't come here for a light, healthy meal and probably not best for a vegetarian either. I wish we had come for fish Friday as I've heard great things! Definitely a fun Wisconsin experience :)

Fridays are busy and we have learned to go at 4:45 or around 8:00 pm. When they have their outdoor "paddock" section open, seating eases up but tap choices are limited unless you walk in to the bar to get your own. We usually an eat at the stable or the paddock but like the house - where you can make reservations - for larger family gatherings. Also look for special events like wine tastings on Wednesdays. It's a classic.
