It was my first time visiting the diner. I ordered my food al carte and it was good loving portions for an affordable price. The food was decent; I liked my toast and pancake. The sausage and hash were also good but a little too salty and greasy. The inside fits the plaza so it felt less of a restaurant. My service was great and I even spoke to the new owner who shared with me that he was going to do a complete overhaul of the place. I think once the renovations occur, this place will be a good spot for a small town diner experience in a relatively busy town. I will be back to check out the new updates for sure but for now it's a little mah. read more

Lets spit some facts. Diner coffee is simply the best of all time. The food was fantastic and if you have a phobia of your food touching, fear not, everything comes on a separate plate. Been living in the area for about six months now and drive by here regularly. Finally carved out some time this morning to stop in for breakfast. Restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived but we were promptly seated and our server took our drink orders shortly after. Even with the craziness of the Covid and being severely short staffed everyone had a smile on their face and my hat is off to the one cook they had that was serving 10+ tables! Our food came out 15 minutes later and I had ordered the Biscuits and Gravy with two eggs, bacon, and home fries. Home fries were nicely seasoned, the bacon was thick and crispy, and the eggs were over-medium which was perfect for me. I enjoyed the sausage gravy but unfortunately the biscuits seemed as though they weren't fresh as they were very dry and kind of spongy instead of flaky. Either way, sausage gravy helped mask the texture and the flavor was fine. Hopefully I can find time again soon to stop in to try other seasonal menu items that I didn't try this time around. read more

Used to be our weekend go to place for breakfast. Food and service were great for years. They have a new cook now for a while and he is terrible. Omelets used to be outstanding. Last few times we were there including today they were awful. He cooks them until they are well overdone on the outside yet runny and undercooked in the inside. The visit before today I actually had a piece of something black and pointed like a piece of wood in my omlette that actually made it into my mouth. I gave him the benefit of the doubt on that one but after today we we will never return and will be sure to let all of our family, friends know about our experiences. read more

I love a good diner and since we no longer live downtown by Pamela's, we are in a hunt that to find our favorite breakfast spot up north. The food at freedom square wasn't the best I've ever had, but what impressed me were the wait staff. Like everywhere else they are short staffed, running around like crazy trying to get everyone taken care of. Our waitress was kind, friendly, patient and interacted with our one year old throughout our meal. She was happy to be there and that made us happy to be there too! :) I got the croissant French toast and like I said, it wasn't the best French toast I've ever had, but it wasn't awful either. Weekday mornings there is a special breakfast menu in addition to the standard full menu, it has options that you choose from for a flat rate, available from 7am - 10 am. They have build your own omelets, multiple potato choices, French toast, pancakes, and both are also available as specialty choices, combination platters, eggs Benedict, breakfast sandwiches (be sure to ask for lettuce and tomato if you want it included), and of course eggs. I was really excited to find a diner close by our house and I really wanted to love this place. We went for breakfast early on a Saturday morning. The parking was wide open and we were seated as soon as we arrived. The server was very pleasant and helpful. We ordered pancakes, eggs, bacon, hash browns and pecan waffles. The food came out pretty quickly and it was hot. The eggs were cooked correctly. the bacon was pretty thin cut. The pancakes were VERY dense. I lifted a pancake to put butter on the bottom one and it broke in half. When tasting them, it was so dense that it felt like wall spackle. The worst of it was the hash browns. They obviously only have one fryer in the kitchen and it must be used to cook all their fried foods (including their fried fish sandwich), because the hash browns tasted like fish. And that's not what I'm looking for at 7:30am. I used to work at Long John Silvers and we always had one fryer for the fish and another for everything else for obvious reasons. Cleaning the oil isn't going to remove the fish taste. The oil would need to be replaced. Honestly, we likely won't be back. It's a shame cause the inside is super clean and looks freshly renovated and the servers are really nice and helpful. We just can't get over the bad food. If they invested in a second fryer for the fish only, it would be a huge help. But until then, we'll stick with Cracker Barrel for breakfast from now on. read more

I wasn't astounded by anything in particular, but everything was done well and our food came our together and hot (not always the case with breakfast meals these days). About two years ago I decided to try the diner for breakfast. I was becoming weary of the "same old, same old" of the chain restaurants. Well, I ended up totally falling in love with the place. Not only because of the food and service, but the overall ambiance. Between the workers and clientele I feel like I'm visiting friends. I have tried to spread the word amongst my friends. My only concern is that there have been some changes in the business practices that are starting to take away from the whole ambiance of the place which is what brings people in. This place used to be really good. Good food. Good service. We went today thinking we'd get the same. The service was a bit slow and it took forever to get our check but it wasn't too-too bad. The food was much different than remembered. The French toast was so cold it wouldn't even melt the butter. The bacon was so tough and rubbery you could barely chew it - it was cooked enough, but it was just all fat. And then there's the biscuits. First of all I'm not sure why I was charged $7.00 for three when one was with a meal and then the menu says 2 for $3. Anyway.... They were left over. Best cast scenario they were yesterday's.... What's worse is that the were flat and so stale they couldn't be separated to even butter! AND they were even still wet on the bottom where they tried reheating them in the microwave. Food is pretty decent for a diner, but I am concerned about their "chicken oriental salad." As an Asian American, I find this description outdated and offensive. Never mind that Asian culture is extremely diverse and not a monolith (it doesn't do any particular group justice to call a dish generically "oriental"), but this salad is not even remotely based on any traditional Asian cuisine (just the white American idea of "exotic" food). Furthermore, with the recent increased Asian hate after the pandemic, I really don't feel comfortable dining someplace where orientalism and white colonial vocabulary is still thrown around so causally and ignorantly. This was literally walnut banana bread made into crispy French toast. Now if you're someone that is looking for a very traditional piece of French toast, this may not be for you. After another snowy night in Pittsburgh, I was leaving work hungry for a satisfying breakfast. My original road trip plan was postponed due to the winter weather so I headed to a place I've been meaning to try for awhile now, Freedom Square Diner. I perused the menu online ahead of time trying to decide what I might want to get. I usually go savory with my breakfast, and although that Strawberry Crunch French Toast looked amazing, I decided on the Country Fried Steak. Upon entering, I was greeted and seated immediately. I had to wait a few minutes for a drink, but the place was starting to get crowded, so I didn't mind. When my waitress approached, I ordered my food since I already knew what I wanted (and also because a rather large party was being seated right next to me). My food came out of the kitchen rather quickly and I began to enjoy. The breading on the steak was nice and crunchy despite being covered in gravy. The home fries and eggs were your average eggs and potatoes. The biscuits, which I only started eating halfway through my steak, were still warm when I pulled them apart. Overall, I was more than satisfied with my $10 breakfast. The interior set up is a bit odd and the place can get pretty loud when they're busy. I think the addition of a counter would help create a more diner-like experience. I debated 3 or 4 stars but ended up giving Freedom Square Diner 3 solid stars with the intention of returning and hopefully adding another star. read more

Stopped in for breakfast a little after 9am on a Saturday morning. The place was busy, but we were able to snag a table without a wait (there was also no wait when we left). The waitress was friendly and very attentive. Our coffee mugs were never below half full (although the coffee itself left a little to be desired!). I had the corned beef hash with 2 poached eggs, potatoes and toast (total carb fest). I love a good corned beef hash and this did not disappoint. Good portions and a decent price. My husband had a plain waffle, which he said he enjoyed (although he commented that the waffle at Eat n Park is much "fluffier"). My hubby and I wanted to try a new breakfast place and almost forgot about this diner because the location is a little hidden. It's in the same plaza as shop and save and CVS. The facade definitely does not suggest a typical diner vibe and same as inside. There's a big waiting area, mostly booth seating, no counter seating and minimal decor. Servings are huge they charge extra for peppers and onions, but they don't tell you when taking your order. It's nice that there's plenty of chocolate chips on the pancake, but it was a little dry. The menu had a good variety, and maybe I should've ordered something more interesting. The breakfast we had was just OK, but I will probably give it another try when it's convenient. Found it! After three years of travel hockey, we finally found THE BEST BREAKFAST in Cranberry. Trust me - we've been to all the other spots. If you think we might have missed one, please leave a comment with your suggestions. We love trying new places. My son had the Crab Benedict, and I had scrambled eggs with perfect home fries and whole grain toast. We shared the Nutella French Toast with fresh strawberries, ripe bananas, and Cool Whip topping for dessert. So good! The type of indulgent treat that makes it totally worth the extra calories. All of the staff was friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there, which made for a pleasant and inviting atmosphere. We will be back! read more

Just had breakfast at the Freedom Square Diner. Service was excellent, very friendly and quick. Large breakfast for my husband and just french toast for me. Coffee was hot and so was the food. Everything was good until I went to the bathroom. Bathroom was totally disgusting, and I'm not talking about a little toilet paper on the floor. It was nasty and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a week. This was not just one day's worth of grossness. The toilets looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while. We randomly chose Freedom Square Diner for a weekday breakfast while traveling, and were so pleased! Delightful is the best word to describe it. The servers were friendly and got the coffee out within seconds of seating us. These ladies know their business. I did feel a bit like I had two heads (not necessarily in a bad way) when I asked what Mancini toast was, and was informed it's toast made with thick Italian bread. Perhaps a regional thing? My husband and I both chose the 4-for-5 breakfast and it was such an awesome value and great food. I had oatmeal, eggs, cottage cheese, and banana bread that is even better than what I bake at home. My husband chose mostly the same, but also had the home fries which rivaled our favorites. There was a guy working in the next booth who seemed to be the owner of this restaurant and others, and he was really nice - both to the staff and to customers who stopped to chat, which solidified our high opinion of this place all the more. Perhaps best of all was an upbeat oldies soundtrack that made me start the day on a happy note. This place has really gone downhill. The pancakes were mushy and had very little taste. When I asked for real butter, I was told that they only have margarine! Does the owner know what's in that stuff? Probably doesn't care. The waitress said that a lot of customers ask for butter and they used to have the little butter pats. Margarine is cheap and not good for you. They maple syrup was not maple syrup. Not sure what it was, but have no desire to try it again. And they have the nerve to call this place a Diner.
