Parking is easy on the street. They're open Wednesday through Sunday, 4-11pm. Flat fee entry gets you credits all night. Pinball is still metered. But as long as they keep their pins running well I'll keep saving up quarters all year long just to bring them back to Springfield for family Christmas. Adults, the kids are alright. Kids, you're touching treasures. We like their shirts. They've got a print "Ugly Christmas Sweater" design right now that I just wish was actually in knit. Epic.

A very cordial staff member came outside and invited us into the lobby to await our tour time. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. However, there were parts of the tour where background noise made it difficult to hear her. I would recommend anyone with any hearing impairment stay close to the guide to ensure you can hear the narration. Overall, we really enjoyed the tour and would love to revisit for one of the "ghost tours" on offer.

Her very first words were, "Why are you here?" -- no greeting, no courtesy, just instant hostility. We're from out of town and were in the area just for the weekend, but she immediately accused us of trespassing instead of simply asking what we needed. To make things worse, she blocked the driveway so we couldn't turn around properly, forcing us to back through the grass rather than letting us move forward a couple of feet to the wider part of the drive. I'm also quite sure her behavior was influenced by my alternative haircut and color, which made the experience feel even more judgmental and discriminatory. Several people were slipping but no one actually fell. The floor was not wet. It's just very smooth and not forgiving if your shoes do not have grip.

If it wasn't so far from home, I would absolutely wok at the Discovery Center! The place is amazing. There are so many engaging exhibits that put STEM principles right into your hands. I found myself interacting with an exhibit and going, "Oh! This is just like this idea we went over in physics/chemistry/engineering/science class!" Rather than being put together like a giant playplace, like some museums, the STEM learning areas were thoughtfully constructed with specific leaning outcomes in mind. The place does a LOT with its budget. (which, judging by the catalogue of posters taped up to fill blank wall space, needs some more $$$! Get these guys a grant!) I don't remember the name, but the community role play area was very cute, too. One of the people I visited with works in news and she got a kick out of it. During our visit, this was the area most populated by kids. There were interactives and objects all over the place, from doctor tools to puppets, that were very neatly stored when not in use. But the highlight of our visit had to be the staff. One staff member in particular, a young man named Hunter, noticed my group's interest in the exhibits, and took the time to show us particularly cool uses. He showed us the Tesla coil and told us about the man it was named after; I got to hold a hissing cockroach while my friends made faces; he turned on the Van der Graaf and explained how it worked; and informed us of the amazing grape project growing on the roof. His customer service was OUTSTANDING, all because of our enthusiasm towards learning. If you have a kid who's interested in science, or you're an adult who remembers how to have fun, visit the Discovery Center. At $12 per person, you absolutely will not regret it.

All visual indications it looks like open public parking . We were told the lot was open for community engagement parking . There is no sign indicating any pay per hr parking or no signs stating no parking after 5 pm . There are no signs indicating anything which are visible at night . Our car was towed within minutes . No one in the adjacent businesses could provide any information . Springfield is a very dangerous city with homeless population abound at night . We felt very unsafe and felt our safety was at risk standing helpless on the street . Do not patronize this establishment. No one answered any of our calls . There was no telephone numbers listed any where for emergencies or questions . Safety is there least priority and taking advantage of out of town visitors.

I see birthday parties; I see families, couples, people walking their dogs; I see LARPers (look it up); I see potlucks; I see high school science projects; I see track teams; I see lone runners. This is a great place to see the Springfield community at their happiest and most relaxed. Not to mention it offers an impressive amount of amenities: a few tennis courts, a full playground, BBQ pits, a sprinking of permament art installations, and a very nice, covered communal area. This is a very old park, and the practicality of it paired with all the old stone work and giant Oak trees makes for a unique place to stop and unwind alone or with your favorite people/pets. A few other reasons why Phelps rocks: it's in a gorgeous, well-established neighborhood full of interesting and well-maintaned forever homes and it's right next to the beloved art museum. It also has a righteously awesome butterfly garden (you'll see it if you look in the direction of the museum from the park itself), and walking through it in the summer is legitimately like walking in a dream. It's quite lovely. One word of advice I can provide is that this park is also historically a not-so-good place to visit after nightfall, as most Springfield parks are. Get your recreational fix in before sunset and call it a day, unless you're with a group.

The kids said it was the best part of the day! They didn't even notice that the facility is worn down and not as grand as others might be. For such a great price, I didn't either.
