She received 100% in her Language Arts 3rd grade 4th quarter and they still insisted that she wasn't ready for 4th grade due to behaviors. Since the start of the school year, my daughter struggled with the high demand that was being placed on her to fit into their programs and she was purposely placed in lower academic curriculum due to her behavior and I tried to constantly advocate that the behaviors were due to boredom but no one would listen to me. I was told that until my daughter started following directions and behaviors improve, her academic would stay the same. I just recently had my daughter's IQ tested and it came back top 5%. She tested into 5th grade reading and 7th grade spelling; her math was behind because the school refused to teach her grade level math telling me initially that she was behind and then they said oh we are too ahead in the curriculum and we can't have her join the 3rd grade class then they wanted me to get her caught up during the summer if she wanted to be in 4th grade. The owner (Victoria) just doesn't really care about your children. Your child is just $$$$ to her. She just wants the money and wouldn't care if your child succeeded or not. They have also had such a huge turn over with their staff and I am not surprised at all. The only reason I tried this place was cause of the so called "great reviews". I usually don't like to place reviews, but I just had to share since so many people recommend this school! I would be very careful with placing my child here.

We brought these concerns to the school administration. We were deeply disappointed by how the situation was handled. Shawn Bell did not take action in a way we felt protected our daughter or addressed similar concerns raised by other students. Second reason, whenever you can't figure something out it's common sense that you ask the teacher for help. Well if you ask for help for this specific teacher she will only say, "figure it out," or "ask people around you," even though she is the teacher and is the one who should be helping and trying at her job. Third reason, at the beginning of the semester you are given at least one and half weeks to get a very special and specific BLACK COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK. This is very annoying, and unfair because many kids can't either find, afford, or is just busy with their life. She won't allow any other type of notebook. Fourth reason, she also shames kids if they got a answer wrong or forgot something especially simple like their notebook. This is very wrong because what if they got something going on at home. I went to Rancho thinking I would get one of the best educations ever, many reviews (i'm assuming are either payed reviews or the extremely rich parents who's kids lied to them about enjoying it) seemed amazing. However, when I arrived I found all the kids my age to be the most stuck up, snobby, rich kids I had ever met. So extremely out of touch, dimwitted, racist, and tone deaf. I was sitting in study hall when I overheard a group of people gossiping about a senior the previous year who cheated on some very hard/important finals and got caught. The parents allegedly paid the principal an additional 25k (which is the same amount as tuition) to stay quiet about it and let him pass. However, that could easily be untrue and just a rumor (wouldn't be surprised with the amount of liars enrolled). I was in Integrated 2 math class. The absolute worst math teacher EVER had. I was more of a quiet kid, I wanted to keep to myself and not talk to any of the out of touch students there. She would often call me out during break asking why I wasn't with my friends, knowing I had pretty much none (by choice). She was more focused on being a "tough"/"strict"/"intimidating" teacher than a good teacher. I learnt more about her unnecessary classroom rules than about what I needed to pass the class. On the midterm final, I spent 2 weeks studying everything we had learnt throughout the year. We weren't made aware until the week of that we weren't allowed calculators on the test, although we had practiced with calculators the whole year. The final felt like a whole new class, for a moment I thought I was at the wrong final exam when I saw what was on it. The housekeeping of this school is very poorly looked after. It's disgusting, specifically the bathrooms. I can only speak for the girls bathroom, there was always toilets that hadn't been bothered to be flushed. The janitors do not do a good job to clean it up, there would be the same unflushed mess in the same toilets for a week straight. More importantly maybe the adults should teach these kids how to flush a toilet as their maids have been doing it all their lives. I will be calling out another teacher who I thankfully did not have but I did witness doing some strange things to a sophomore girl. We were doing presentations in class and this teacher came in to watch a group of girls who obviously he gets along with and has for a class. I always think it's a little strange whenever teachers and students have oddly close or even flirty relationships with one another. I didn't think too much of it until out of nowhere one of the girls screams bursting out of laughter. This 35+ man was tickling a 15 year old girls waist. Absolutely disgusting and predatory behavior. I won't be saying names but all I know is that he teaches science classes. They always emphasized how strict their rules were about dress code. About how skirts should be 4 inches from the middle of the knee, most girls were walking around with their underwear visible and nobody batted an eye. This place does not deserve to be ranked #2 in Arizona's private schools. Disgusting, sloppy, shady, and overall a complete joke.

I thought the parents who were so ecstic over the education offered at ASA might be a little off. It couldn't be that good. Really? My son started school with all the aprehensions of a 5th Grade student who knew very little about music, was active in sports and was very sad about leaving his friends behind. We (even he) chose this school because they had a strong emphasis on education and we expected the school to offer my son the opportunity to learn in an environment that was strict, supportive and creative. We were not disappointed. ASA was all that - and MORE! The academic teachers are inventive, collaborative, and very supportive. The arts teachers are music professionals and perform with and for the students and move them along in the curriculum with such finesse it's like they have private music lessons every day. And, the year was a success. My son was delighted with all his classes, especially his music classes with Monica Sauer Anthony. What a surprise to find him begging us to play his clarinet every evening before we had dinner or before we participted in a famly event. He loved the Science Curriculum, the hands-on activity and his teacher's passion for education. He worked hard in Language Arts and Social Studies and really showed off his new found maturity and knowledge during Presentation Week. And the lessons he learned in Life Skills class were really applicable and life changing. Then the performances at the end of the year were very remarkable and telling. I saw kids excelling in their musical expertise and showing off this success with such poise and confidence that I couldn't believe these were the same kids I met just 10 months prior at our summer welcome parties. The school does have a rigorous application process that leaves you on edge just wondering if your son or daughter will be permitted entry into this prestigious, blue ribbon school. The school doesn't tolerate any bullying and supports all types of students. And, the school is near Downtown Phoenix, so there are issues with the campus being spread across some streets, but those are being addressed quickly as they are building and expanding into new facilities that will offer a number of benefits for the ever-growing school. This school is really a dream. It's an educational opportunity I would recommend to any parent. I think my son would write a similiar recommendation!

We have 2 girls and 1 boy, each child has a unique personality, and different needs and strengths. My oldest is in 6th grade now and is thriving! My younger children are in 3rd grade and 1st grade, sharing the same classroom, and doing beautifully. I love the multi-age classroom (1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders are together) and the fact that the children learn at their own pace. Many people have a misconception that children in a Montessori school wander around all day. I can assure you, that is not the case. There is a purpose to everything the children do, even though many times the children (and even the parents) are unaware. The children in 1st-3rd grades have workplans for the entire week and that provides the structure. 2nd and 3rd graders complete their own workplans (of course the teachers check them) and 1st graders start creating their own workplans mid-year after they have learned the skill. Each day children complete the work assigned for that day, but the children choose the ORDER in which they do their work. If they finish their work for a day, they may either choose a cultural work or get ahead by completing work assigned later in the week. The children work independently but may quietly ask for help from other children or from the teachers. The work is checked and the children must correct any work that is missed. Each child's workplan is unique, the work is tailored to each child. So there is a balance of structure and independence, but it is customized for each child. It's truly amazing! In addition to the classroom work, the children enjoy specials each day: Art, PE, Gardening, Sustainable Systems, Music, and Spanish. There are goats, chickens, tortoises, bunnies, and a plethora of plants and the children take care of all of them (feed the animals, plant, harvest, weed, change the water, etc.) The children also have the opportunity to do research projects both in the classroom and at home. This week, we finished the children's class presentations. Each child researched and prepared a report and visual aid on a topic. 3rd graders selected a country, 2nd graders a monument, and 1st graders an animal. It was fantastic to watch my 1st grade son present to the class and answer questions about his animal. My 3rd grader is a pro by now because she has done it so many times, but she loved sharing her information as well. This is our 8th year at Mission Montessori and all of my children are doing exceptionally well in this nurturing, yet academically challenging, environment. The teachers are wonderful, dedicated, and highly skilled. I highly recommend this school!
