Gives off cidercade vibes but less overwhelming. Same concept of you pay an entry fee and have access to all the games. Most of it is old school classics but the staff was very relaxed and chill, the bar selection was pretty decent too read more

Me and some of my cousins wanted to go to an arcade near by and found here. It's a one time payment for the whole day, where you can leave and come back and goes 18+ after 8 or so (i forgot lol). After entry, all games are free to play for the day. The selection was very retro and my cousins really enjoyed it. Probably the best arcade i've ever been too and a very good deal. Highly recommend! read more

Free Play Denton - Basement Area, very large selection - Arcades Near Me - Denton, Texas

Amazing range of games from modern Japanese games to emulators of retro games. A whole wall of pinball downstairs with their own "league" for the more competitive folks. Check their monthly calendar for events. You can book parties here too!! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about games, bar food, and drink selection depending on their station. Their quesadilla hits the spot and they have some fun non-alcoholic drinks. After a certain time, it's adults only gaming and that clears out any kiddos if you're trying to get away from that energy. Always a good time when I'm here. I highly recommend snooping around in the emulators downstairs to find games like Chip's Challenge and other oldies that can be new to you! Between Deathball competitions and solo-play games one can get lost in, not to mention late night hours for those still looking for things to do at night on the Denton square, it's easy to become a regular here. read more

One of the 5 Freeplay retro video game arcades in the Dallas,Texas metro area. This Denton, TX facility is due north of Dallas, some 30 miles via I-35E. This is original historic downtown Denton County Courthouse square, in a small college town. Many of the original shops are now modern businesses. Quiet, and safe area. A few local homeless guys are very polite, and patiently wait for willing donors. I enjoyed this Freeplay, other than my favorite game needing a tuneup. Freeplay did a good job here, utilizing a spacious basement, to provide 2 floors of fun! Both floors have a full bar, with seating. Additional booths, and tables, allow you to take a break between games. Restrooms were nice. A small elevator can lower you to the basement level, inquire with staff. The stairs are original, from the old days, just be aware. So, I drove up here to test the Q-Bert, and Asteroids games. Q-bert functioned very well, the display screen needs adjusted for a bit more contrast. Asteroids... there is a electrical short on the buttons panel: the Hyperspace Button kept activating, blowing up my spaceship. The game action is very fast, with the spaceship movement like Tokyo Drift. I struggled to get 100K points. My personal best is 726K points on another location. I keep trying for One Million, on a 1 Player game, it is possible, but a workout. I counted 17 pinball machines, both newer, and some classic retros. Plenty of other classic video games, and a mini Skee-Ball. Nice comfy padded barstool seats are available if you want to sit & play. read more

Haven't had a good experience here. I haven't been to this place over a year. As new college person let alone to a new country I moved from Japan and I came here to to visit the arcades. I made my way to downstairs were they were playing my favorite games. I asked to play and everyone was so un welcoming, I don't know who organizing this but didn't feel welcome at all. Felt like ones of those clubs you have to "know somebody" to be even be relevant but regardless I went for 6 weeks and played. Made conversation with some of the players just for them to not say anything back and move back over to talk their own people. Anything regarding smash bros or rivals I would go to the location in Carlton it truly feels like home there people do really care about you there. I wish this place takes notes and welcomed new members that come here. It's very hard coming to a new space just for everyone to give you an unpleasant look and not truly care about others. Not coming back read more

This place is AMAZING, perfect date night or night out with friends!! The atmosphere is perfect for gaming, it's dark, cool, and best part there's an upstairs and downstairs!! It has several of my favs, Guitar Hero 3, Galaga, PacMan, DigDug, Ski Ball, Pinball.. etc. Place is pretty open, has restrooms upstairs and downstairs, very convenient. Pricing is resonable, $12 for adults all day. There is a monthly pass you can get which I've been thinking about getting, just waiting to switch from working nights to days. I've only been twice, so I'm sure I can write a more extensive review once I've been several times. But I am sold, this place is a great place to spend time with some friends. read more

New favorite location! I love that there are two levels to this location. A variety of game choices and a variety of drink choices. Bathrooms were kept clean. I love that the location is right off the square. Only downside..the kitchen takes awhile to get food out. This is a must go to place off the Denton Square. read more

What a wonderful place. My nephews and I love to come to arcades. My brother told me about this one and we had to come check it out. The food is tasty and the plates are generous. Gregory at the bar is great and made us Shirley Temples in a Sprite bottle. The music is fantastic and the shows playing are classic. I had completely forgotten about the Mario Brothers Show with Captain Lou. Free Play reminded me. Blast from the past. I also love that they're very outright supportive of marginalized communities. They're doing the quite work. In times like these, it's invaluable. Thank you and infinite blessings and abundance to you all. read more

This was the best experience when I was here we came back three times to play all the games they even had tapper! I wish I lived close by so I can go everyday I will come back to visit next time I'm in town! read more

Meg and Gregory are my saviors. I walked in, told Gregory I was drinking strawberry vodka drinks and I wanted to continue my path, and they made me the best drink I've ever had in my entire life. I don't know what it was. pulled from the elixer of life tap? who knows, whatever it was it should be on the menu, Gregory is a mixologist. THEN I went downstairs and Meg became my new liaison. we were at free play celebrating my little sisters 21st birthday and my sister had to complete a bingo card for the night. the bingo said take a picture with a bartender -- Meg was there. we needed some drinks -- Meg was there. what a great group of bartenders. I worked at a hotel bar/restaurant in college and let me tell you, there's drama that goes down in these places. the show vanderpump rules was made for a reason. but these people? the best crew I've ever seen. I'd like to think theyre all best friends and they all hang out on the weekend (a bartender's weekend is sunday-monday) but who knows they might hate each other. whatever the case may be, I love these bitches. there was another person there too I never got the chance to talk to but I bet they're cool. I did not expect to have such knowledgeable and friendly bartenders at a game bar, but I was pleasantly surprised. Idk how much they make but give them more money. read more

Such an amazing place for kids and adults! I highly recommend Free Play in Denton for SO MANY REASONS!! Great, friendly, UNDERSTANDING staff. It definitely has a bar vibe but not completely overwhelming for kids. Some peeps might want to bring some music ear plugs if your like me and have already reached that old person stage where the music is too loud at most places. also, if you have real littles (2-6) I'd definitely give it a preview first too. read more

This is a great place with amazing games and great drinks! I have no issue with the establishment or customer service but with my most recent visit, the downstairs area reeked of sulfur. I'm not sure if there is a gas leak or if this is a cleaning issue but the downstairs area was filled with the smell of rotten eggs or sewage. Again great place but not sure what's going on with the scent. read more

Heaven is a place on earth... and Freeplay Denton truly is that. I have been to all FreePlay locations and my heart is with this new Denton location. It really is the perfect location-- upstairs bar with kitchen, seating, games, and skeeball-- downstairs amazing arcade selection and a full bar. Plenty of space and not as cramped as the previous location- this is the perfect location on the square and I wish the Freeplay team great success. They also serve liquor at the new location- and I've fallen in love with the Mario Mario drink- cherry Skyy vodka, grenadine, squirt soda-- delicious. They have an amazing pinball selection and what's also pretty cool is they have a bunch of consoles. My 12 year old likes being able to play the consoles.... The 12 year old in me enjoys dragons lair and dragons lair 2!!! Be sure and check out the best entertainment on the square! read more

A fun place to hang out right on the square! I have been to Cidercade in Austin but I liked Free Play Denton soooo much better. The murals and lights are top notch. Nice bar selection, the taps are downstairs if you're wanting a draft. I can assure you they have all your favorite vintage arcade games and more. $12 gets you a wristband and a day pass so you can play, go out for lunch or dinner, then come back and play some more. Nicely air conditioned, plenty of space, clean bathrooms, nice staff, and great vibes. There's also an elevator to the bottom floor if you can't do stairs. Check it out! read more

They MOVED and are now open!!! Had a chance to go to several AYC play arcades in the DFW area. Two of the better ones (Cidercade and FP Arlington) are pretty far from where I live so it was awesome to hear that this place moved to DW Denton and is now open. MAN, I love the layout of this place. The top level has an amazing bar and a good handful of games but when you go downstairs, there's another amazing bar and a ton more games. Was so surprised to see the wide selection of games there. The vibe is super cool and the staff were great. read more

This place has it all! Great games, food and drink selections. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Will def go back!

I was surprised at how much fun I had at Free Play. First, it was unlimited play for $12. I thought this was a very reasonable price. Free Play had a wide selection of vintage games from Q-Bert to Donkey Kong to Pac-man to Mortal Combat. My 9-year-old daughter and I had a blast. We stopped at one point for a pizza and some drinks. She had coke in a bottle and I had a bloody mary that hit the spot on an early Saturday afternoon. They had two floors of games, and I hope to go back soon. read more

Outstanding food! Service was great! Establishment is clean and tidy! We will be going back for sure!!

I really like this place it's pretty fun to hang out with friends but recently they started doing this new rule but it confused me I'm 19 for context I came in on a Sunday and on the intercom they said anyone that was 18 and under after 9:30 PM Had to go which makes sense to me personally I come back a few days later on a Saturday at around 10 PM and then they tell me I can't go in because I'm not 21 like I don't understand how it was just 18 and now it's 21 it doesn't really make a lot of sense. read more

They charge an entry fee of $11.99 plus tax, regardless if you are not going to play. Me and some dads were meeting up to have beers. We were going to let our boys play games while we drank some brews at their bar. Sadly, even though the dads were not going to be playing any games, we would still have to pay the entry fee. So instead of making more money from us at their bar, they lost money. We left the boys and walked down the block to Loophole for our beers. We gave another establishment our drinking and food money since Free Play has a silly policy. Why would you charge a patent an entry fee? Stupid! As for kids having fun, this place is fun according to my son and his friends. read more

It a really good but getting expenses and a lot of the games I loved from the old location are gone

Fantastic place! I took my two boys and played vids for a few hours. Cool atmosphere and very reasonably priced. We will be back!

Free Play Denton is so much fun! I espeically love that they have Dance Dance Revolution (my favorite game ever) but they have so much more. I played some cool games I had never heard of. The staff is so cool too. Greg, the bartender, is amazing. He personally made sure me and my friend got home, tucked us in to bed, and sang us a lullaby until were sound asleep and safe. The dedication! Literally everyone that works there is cool. What a great place and enviorment to hang out with your friends and meet random, cool strangers :) read more

Tremendous value. Great selection of games. Great selection of eats and drinks. Awesome.

Disappointing. Extremely loud and full of drunk people. Not good for kids. A lot of the games were dirty, sticky, and broken. I love arcades but there's just not much to like about this one read more
