You probably wouldn't think so out of a fish house but, they have the best cut ribeyes ever! Better than most steak houses. My husband and I have and family have eaten @Freds Fish House for many years. Their fish is delicious but their steaks are a hidden gem. So if you're not in the mood for catfish or seafood order a ribeye you won't be disappointed. read more

Been eating here for SOOO long!! Love every meal! Service is fast & reliable. The ambiance is typical fish house & there is NOTHING wrong with that!! Love FRED's!! read more

This place is right on Main Street -- not fancy, but cozy and welcoming, with good old-fashioned food done right. We started with the fried green beans and they were really good. The fried catfish was honestly some of the best I've ever had -- perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Everything we ordered was seasoned so well: the okra, the fries, all of it was delicious. Even the sweet tea was spot on. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering how much food you get. Our waitress was a young lady who was super attentive and sweet, which made the experience even better. We'll definitely be back. read more

Fred's Fish House - Mammoth Spring, AR On the recommendation of the attendants at Mammoth Spring State Park, we stopped in for lunch at Fred's Fish House -- and we're glad we did! The fish was absolutely delicious, the fries were perfectly cooked, and even the coleslaw was a hit with both of us. The portions were so generous that my wife and I easily split one plate between the two of us. They proudly serve American farm-raised catfish, and it was every bit as good as advertised. Highly recommend! read more

Fish had no flavor. Too much breading also with no taste. Hush puppies and coleslaw was ok. The waitress did a wonderful job. The fish was a real disappointment. Won't be back. read more

Some of the best catfish I've had in a while. Hush puppies were really good too. Ordered a bowl of okra expecting a small bowl and when the waitress brought it out it was a huge bowl. Everything about this place is very good. Will definitely return!! read more

Not to brag, but I have tried fried catfish all over the US, claiming to be the best from North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio, and on and on, but none of them have come anywhere close to the level of Fred's in Mammoth. You heard it here first...change the sign out front, "America's Best Fried Catfish!" read more

If you like fried catfish, then this is the place for you. My husband and I each ordered their special which was fried catfish or walleye. The plate came with a generous amount of fries and coleslaw. We were too full to try their pies. The service was fast and waiter was friendly and attentive. He made sure our glasses of ice tea were constantly filled. The restaurant had a country feel and homey atmosphere. Family pictures were displayed on the wall. read more

Love love love this unassuming community restaurant in my hometown. Mammoth Spring is a small town located on the Missouri Arkansas border on Hiway 63. Located in a storefront on the Main Street it's hard to pass by if you aren't looking for it. This restaurant is very popular and at times there is a wait to be seated but don't let that deter you because the wait is worth it They specialize in Catfish and hush puppies and it's so yummy. I had the seafood plate which comes with catfish fried shrimp and clams, each plate comes with coleslaw ,hush puppies and French fries. It's a great value and so much food you won't go away hungry read more

Fred's has been a favorite of mine for the past 20 years. The catfish is always hot and delicious. Service is good and fast. Worth the 45 mile round trip. read more

Fish was "dirty" and undercooked! Popcorn shrimp tasted rotten and was left unrated. Slaw was warm. No pickled tomatoes. Hush puppies were good when hot. Waitress was nice and friendly . The hostess seems sick of being there! Atmosphere was old (not the good vintage kind of old). Seems like they have just stopped trying. read more

Food is OK but waitress Jackie is hateful and rude. We will never go back there because of her attitude.

This place was nasty no flavor, The food was okay but you couldn't really taste anything,The service was okay it took a while for are food,The place itself was honestly kinda fishy itself. read more

Very good catfish place as I drove through the country. They are true to their claim. They have excellent hush puppies and very nice country service. Building is old as is the town. That's what makes these kind of gems worth checking out. If you are hungry and love fried fish you need to check this place out read more

The food was cooked to perfection, , service was awesome , polite, entertaining all in all a great place!

We time our trips to Memphis so that we can eat at Fred's! We stop every chance we get. We get the 4 piece special every time. The fish is perfectly prepared and the hush puppies are some of the best I've ever had, I've had a lot! French fries are always hot and you get a side of coleslaw that is really good! I limit eat my hush puppies with the coleslaw! They have really good ice, like Sonic ice! read more

This place is AMAZING! No frills when you walk in but It smells really good! Hands down best coleslaw and hush puppies I've ever had! I had the trout and it was really great! My kids had burgers and fries and both cleared their plates. ( I don't eat burgers and even I said I'd order one there!) Hubby had the hamburger steak! He loved it! Got a side of clam strips... I barley got one because the kids were fighting over them! Pie was good! Best of all?!? It's been our BEST meal of our vacation and cost us little more then fast food, even with a tip! read more

Chanced into this gem on an unscheduled for gas in the sweet little town of Mammoth Springs, AR just on the Missouri/Arkansas border. Both of us had the small walleye dinner which was in no way 'small'. They start with a plate of the crispiest, tastiest hush puppies ever. And I don't like hush puppies. Then, the fish takes a little longer because it's made fresh. We both got it fried, and it was perfect. You can choose grilled and I'm wishing one of us had tried that way. Fried was definitely delicious. They have a varied menu of shrimp and chicken and burgers and lots of appetizers. Will definitely stop here again. Especially because there is the coolest little boutique just a few doors away with a GREAT selection of extremely cool clothes (MSB - Main Street Boutique) read more

My pop always came to Fred's and would come back to Alabama raving about it. "I've tried everything on the menu and it's all good" he would tell me. My grams sister lives maybe 3 minutes from Fred's so they ate here a lot. My wife , two boys and I had to chance to stop in when looking in on my grams cabin and it lives up to the hype. Fried okra was great, trout fresh and cooked perfect, the burgers the kids got were huge and tastey and my hamburger steak was great. Friendly staff and a nice big dining area. We will for sure be here again every trip we make to Mammoth!! read more

Stopped in on a Sunday for lunch. I can't think of anything better that fish and hush puppies on a Sunday afternoon! The food is always delicious and the staff are always great! My seven year old ate his weight in hush puppies. He wanted to know why they are called hush puppies. So, we looked it up. FYI: fishermen and hunters would dress their catch and fry it. They would roll the waste bits in cornmeal, fry them, and throw them to the dogs to "hush the puppies" read more

Fish was delicious we like trying off the road places and it did not disappoint, stop in and give them a try, I love the mom and pop joints

Ordered the 15 piece meal with hushpuppies. I got home and did not have any hushpuppies. Seems like that would not be an easy thing to miss, fish and hushpuppies, two items and only get one. I called and they said come back and get them. I drove all the way back and all I got was "Here I guess these are yours", not a sorry or lets make it up to you somehow since I had to drive back to town to pick up something I already should have had. With the price of gas that was not cheap!! When I went to check out the employee did not even know how to use a calculator, I had a gift card and she did not even know how to figure the difference of what I owed. I think Riverbend or the Stateline will be where I order fish from the next time. Always had good luck with both of those on other orders at a better price. read more

A down home diner for those who enjoy fried fish and other homestyle entrées. Dinners come with a side of coleslaw and pickled green tomatoes. I've never tried them before but was glad that I did. The pickled green tomatoes or suite with a little bit of heat to them. Prices are very reasonable. Several older adults at our table opted for the child's plate and found it filling. read more

The sign on the door said, "The best fish and hush puppies in Arkansas." I was skeptical because my mom said it wasn't that great but my dad insisted it was a great place to go. I loved it. Great fish and they have a Walleye option if you don't want catfish (Which I didn't) and they know how to fry fish. They also offer an all you can eat option for $15.95. I could have stuffed myself, but I settled on the big plate that included 5 large filets of white juicy walleye! I'm not a hush puppy fan but if I eat them I like them sweet. These were DELICIOUS!!! Sweet with great flavor and just enough onions thrown in!! It was all outstanding and I can't wait to go back again. read more

Being an old Southern Geezer, I've eaten a lot of catfish. I was a little put off when we walked into Fred's, because I certainly wasn't greeted with a smile. However, after some encouragement, we were able to get a little cheerfulness out of the waitress who seated us. We ordered the "all you can eat" catfish with trimmings (pickled green tomatoes, slaw, hush puppies, cocktail sauce, tartar sauce). The trimmings arrived first, and I dived in. I thoroughly enjoyed the hush puppies and green tomatoes. They were prepared just right for me. Shortly, our main dishes arrived, platters of catfish, heaped over french fries and more hush puppies. We found the catfish to be well prepared and very good. It was hot, not too much corn meal breading, was crispy on the outside, and moist, tender and flavorful on the inside. Again, the hush puppies seemed to melt in your mouth. I didn't care for the french fries, and ate only a couple. They were too soft, and bland. The tartar sauce and bottled hot sauce were nice accompaniments. We bought five jars of the pickled green tomatoes on our way out. read more

The fish doesn't quite taste as good as I remember it being when I was younger. The hush puppies and pies are pretty awesome. The staff is super friendly and I always make sure to tip well when I can. read more

It would have been 5 stars except for the bathroom clutter, the waitress did not have enough help to keep things cleaned up and the onion in the hush puppies tastes a tad off. On the bright side I eat here every time I am close because the fish is that good! French fries, brown beans, onion ring, pickle slice ,pickled green tomatoes and catfish were like heaven! This is one of the only places I eat at when I am here because I have no reason to go anywhere else. I ,my husband, daughter, grandson and two granddaughters love this place! read more
