We thought issue was resolved but the dryer light came on again. Bought the Groupon for chimney cleaning 2 nice guys came out on time they call ahead before they arrive nice touch .they use a machine and work from bottom up it was raining so they did not go on the roof . Rob, Alonzo, and Harvey came to replace the single wall liner in my chimney with a double wall liner. Rob was very thorough in explaining everything throughout the job. He showed me what had been installed, what would be installed, and despite a very tight boiler room, did an amazing job of getting everything done. I had a larger job that needed to be done working with an apartment building. I would need to clear a major blockage in the chimney, install a new liner, install new pipework from the boilers to the flue, and install a chimney stack from the roof 17 feet over the neighbor's property. I called several companies for estimates, and while many were good, none stood out like Mike from Chimney Magic. He took the time to look at everything, calculate measurements, and ask the fine detail questions even before being guaranteed any work. I had called another company for a camera inspection just to see the blockage in the chimney, and was charged a few hundred for that service. I got quotes from four places nearby and Fred's was the cheapest. They responded very quickly and arranged an appointment within 2 days. I have a very old house and I don't think the prior owner ever had the chimney swept. They did a bottom up sweep as it was raining, and with the vacuum going the whole time the dust was minimal. I could tell it made a big difference. They were very nice and professional. I know these places always try to sell you on more work, but they were reasonable about it. So these clowns came to my home back in August to clean the chimney. Well last week, my chimney cover that they installed fell off the roof and broke and in the process damaged my car. I called them to notify and basically they said well we cant control high winds!!! I have been living in my home for over 15 years and never has the chimney cover come loose or fell of the damn roof! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I used them once years ago, for a minor fireplace cleaning in my then-apartment, which had become home to a few birds. They cleaned the fireplace and discovered the nest, but informed me: [A] That the problem was actually a cap that would keep birds out was missing at the top of the chimney but [B] They would not be installing that cap because the person on the call was afraid to go up ladders. That would be fine, were it not for the fact that since then, I've received dozens of solicitation calls from them. At one point they were happening on a biweekly basis until finally I told them to stop calling me and to never call me again. They--or rather, Diane, since it's always the same person-- continued calling me. I kept telling her that I asked that they remove my number. Finally, on 6/13/16, Diane and I had the following conversation: ME: Hello? VOICE: Oh hello, Mr. Butler this is Diane from Fred's Chimney magic? ME: Oh my God. Why do you people keep calling me? I noticed a leak in my fireplace and called three chimney repair companies and received estimates for the repair....I decided to use Fred's Chimney Magic as they came on time for the estimate, were friendly, professional, and explained in detail in laymen's terms what needed to be done....they also met the price of the other companies as well. I scheduled the appointment for the repair which included a pointing of the chimney, repair of the crown, resealing the flashing, waterseal the chimney, and a complete chimney sweep and cleaning...the technicians arrived on time, were professional, did the entire job in a most efficient and effective manner, and cleaned up leaving no debris or mess. The company called to the next day to see if I was pleased with the service and when I told them that it rained three hours after the completion of the job, they sent the technician out to me the next day who re-watersealed the entire chimney again to make sure there were no leaks....a few days later we had a severe thunderstorm and when I checked the fireplace there were no leaks.
