Larry's BBQ, 4619 Howerton Rd, Dunnsville, VA 22454. Totally worth the 2 1/2 hour ride thru the countryside to get there from DC. Go now. Your arteries won't be happy, but who cares? The rest of you will. We also should have gone there for burgers instead of the fancy burger joint in Tappahannock, which is like so many of the trendy places in the DC area. Long on high prices and short on good quality meat. Larry makes them with pure beef from the farm. If they're anything like the ribs (and I totally suspect they are) then we'll be in heaven - again. Next time we go to Middle Neck, we're making a beeline for Larry's BBQ and praying it will still be as down home as when we went there this Spring. And, oh yeah - the sides are KILLER. Enjoy!!!

If you want to "Buy Local", start here. When you come inside make a sharp turn and place your order. They have menus on the right hand side and take a look while you wait your turn. After you order, grab a spot inside or outside. Not a ton of space in or out, but enough and a lot of people just grab it to go which helps. After you order, wait your number and then pick up your prize. I have a huge soft spot for crabmeat and went with the crabcake sandwich. I bet their burgers are better. It wasn't bad, it was just good. Others in our party said the burgers were great. I'm such a consistent player that I never met a bad pecan pie nor a bad crab cake. I have a WIDE tolerance for my joy. I ordered a side of fries and they were ginormous. You only need one for every few people so be aware. Overall, super happy and look forward to my next visit.

This is the second time they have botched my takeout order. I had ordered nachos with beans only and when I got the order they had put ground beef and beans on them. Yuck. We had a party of 10, and they were incredibly quick to accommodate us. From the start, the service stood out. Our server worked hard throughout the evening to ensure everything was smooth and that we had an excellent dining experience. The food was fantastic. A few of us ordered the 40 oz. Tomahawk steak with shrimp and two sides, and it was easily one of the best steaks I've had. While $120 is definitely an investment, it was well worth it, the meat was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The sauce on the side complemented it nicely, the sides were delicious, and the presentation really elevated the entire dish. It's also large enough to easily feed two people. Others at the table enjoyed a variety of dishes, including the surf and turf special (ribeye and shrimp for $40), a fish sandwich, and a ribeye steak and cheese. Everything that came out looked and tasted great. They also brought out complimentary bread with a homemade dipping sauce, which was a nice touch. You can tell they take pride in their food--we got the sense that much of it is made in-house. We also tried a few desserts, and they did not disappoint. The carrot cake, in particular, was one of the best I've had. Inside the restaurant was large and looked like they could host banquet and parties. We even had the opportunity to meet and talk with the owner, Tony, and were impressed by his background and passion for what he does. Overall, we had a great experience, and most importantly, our nephew had a wonderful birthday celebration. We will definitely be stopping back in the next time we're in the area.
