A local mechanic shop with a good business in car inspections. I was referred her by a friend and Chris's automotive repair for a Massachusetts car inspection and have had our inspections done here for years. The lines can be long for inspections, especially at the first and end of the month. There is a line for inspections formed by cones. The experience varies by who you get. Two of the older mechanics have been very nice. I did have on youth in the past who was a bit kurt and may have been having a bad day. The inspection was business like and efficient. There is a small area for the owners. The inspection area is for mechanics only. Tip: Have your registration and cash payment ready. This speeds up the process. There is a sign on the wall with the amount. My mechanic today was Romy (forgive me if misspelled), and he was professional, polite, and efficient. The inspection area is clean, organised, and the floor is well swept. The is a restroom inside the mechanic area. I am not sure if it is still available for patrons. Tip: Use a restroom prior to dropping by. Repair hours, as of August 2022, are 8 AM - 5 PM. Inspection hours are 8 AM - 2 PM. However, on my visit they stayed open past 2 to serve all those in line. I brought my Chrysler 300C in for the following services; * Oil & Filter Change * Tire Rotation * Replace the TPMs in all tires (Tire Pressure Monitors) * Bad rattle on the passenger side of the vehicle The oil and filter change was not done. The tire rotation was not done. They secured the heatshield on the vehicle after I had mentioned twice that it sounded more like the antisway bar link let go. I feel that I was grossly overcharged for the replacement of the tire pressure monitors that were replaced in each tire. So, I was charged $397.00 for the replacement of the 4 tire pressure monitors. After a bit of research and a couple of quotes later; 1 quote was $148.00 and the second quote was $156.00 from two reputable repair shops. And this also included remounting and balancing the 4 tires. Needless to say, I am not a happy customer. read more

I smell something smelly in some review on here! $156 for 4 tires is only $39 each. A quick parts store search shows a single sensor costs more than that. Some BS artist want to get that estimate in writing and post it here? I've been going to Fred's for 11 years and always had more than satisfactory service. read more

Went to Fred's today after having a smooth experience the last time I was over to get a sticker. Pulled in and provided my registration and my credit card for payment. Guy doing the stickers noticed my back license plate had a plastic encasing around it. He asked that I remove it. I forgot my tools at home . So I asked if I could use a screw driver. He then informed me that due to recent theft of screwdrivers he would be unable to provide me with one. I went in my car and found a penny and began unscrewing the encasing. Unfortunately there was one screw that was rusted on tight. I asked if I could use some wd-40 and he begrudgingly went to retrieve some. That still didn't do the trick and he said "no luck? Sorry man." And handed my registration and payment form back to me. Seemed like one of those kids who couldn't be bothered to help out when something, not specially mentioned in his job description, was required. Then I drove all the way to Stoughton to get the sticker and had a good laugh with the guy working over there about how petty the previous employee had been. After previous visits to Fred's I thought that I had found a decent spot nearby but can't say I'll be rushing back over there when they can't even be bothered with the smallest task you could imagine. read more

For 20 years I used the same car mechanic at another business and trusted him completely. That business closed and I was left with an oh-oh moment when I realized i needed brake work, fearing that I would not find a mechanic that was as good or trustworthy. I had been to Fred's a few times for inspections only. So with a little trepidation, I made an appointment. Dropped the car in the morning and it was completed that afternoon. I am extremely pleased with how the car feels with the new brakes and with the reasonable price that I was charged....the same feeling I had all the time with my previous repair shop. I blew a transmission line on route 95 at 4:00 on a Friday, and yelp said Fred's was the closest shop. It was a bad situation, as I live nowhere near there and would be at the mercy of someone I didn't know, near closing time on a Friday. AAA got me to freds quickly, and even though the shop was slammed with repairs and procrastinators getting inspection stickers on the last day of the month, a mechanic came right out to diagnose my problem. I needed a seperate trans cooling system as the threads on my radiator were stripped, this was why the hose blew out....at some time before I bought the truck they were cross threaded. It was almost 430 on a Friday, but instead of telling me to leave the truck, he ordered the part (which arrived in minutes) and started working on it. By 530 he was done and I was ready to go. While he was figuring out the bill, I mentioned that I had completely forgot that MY inspection sticker was due. Even though it was an hour after they stopped doing stickers, the other mechanic had me pull in and did my inpection. I couldn't believe it.....these guys should already have been home, but instead one was covered in trans fluid and the other was inspecting my vehicle. I was a stranger off the street....they didn't have to do any of this at closing time. The total cost was $200......$30 of that was the sticker, and $115 was parts. These guys went so far out of their way to turn around what could have a catastrophic situation for me.....I was an hour from home and an hour from my destination. I have never written a yelp review before, but with so many dishonest mechanics out there people should know that there are honest ones, too. I can't recommend this shop highly enough!! read more

When we moved to town and needed a new mechanic for our 2005 Prius, I decided to try Fred's on the strength of it's yelp reviews, which frankly sounded a little too good to be true. Well, a couple of services later, including new tires and struts which I knew were looming as needs, I can add my own improbably positive review. These guys are awesome. You can trust these guys to do only the work that's needed, do it quickly, with quality, and at about as reasonable a price as you'll find anywhere. When they cited me the total for the struts replacement, I laughed out loud, as it was more than $100 less than what they quoted me. And the quote was almost $1,000 less than I was quoted by the place in Northern VA where we used to get our cars serviced. We don't plan to bring our vehicles anywhere else going forward. read more

Fred's not only rescued us when we were far from home on a Saturday, and dragging a heat shield, but they did not charge us for the repair. We thought we were just lucky to find someone who was open on a Saturday, but we felt like we had won the mechanic lottery when he quickly diagnosed the problem, and didn't charge us a thing to put it up on the rack and remove the dragging part. Fred's is the real deal-if we lived nearby, we would take our cars there all the time, and tell all of our friends to do the same! read more

I've been going to Fred's for inspection stickers and work on my car for about 4 years now and I wouldnt dare go anywhere else now. Sam, the mechanic there, is friendly, has a great sense of humor and disposition and does what he says the car needs, not what he needs done in order to pad his own wallet. Several times I've had work done and the bill has come in less than the estimate; when does THAT happen?! When I ask him to check things on the car, like the brakes, he's honest with me- if they dont need work he wont say they do just to make a few bucks. Show me any repair shop at a dealership that would do that. I cant say enough about Fred's other than to GO THERE if your car needs work or you need a sticker. They're a couple of great guys working there :) read more

Disappointed. I had gone to Fred's, if memory serves me correctly, for the past 7 years for my inspection stickers. I went again today, with my 2007 Camry. My vehicle passed safety, failed emissions. The gentelman doing the inspection was very nice, polite, but aside from stickers - seemed unknowledgable to a degree, and was honest enough to say - he wasn't sure in the scenario about to follow... My car was hooked up to their computer system, and as said before, failed. The gentelman did kindly take the time to rehook up to his own system to test his own equipment - it did hook up. Back to my car, would not hook up. I was told it seems to be the computer system, few area mechanics do that specific work, I may have to go to a dealer. But again, he was kind enough to go out of his way and print out a list of some area mechanics who may do this specific work. So noting again that my car is a decade old, I also need to note that I have never had problems with it, or a failed inspection. So while dealership dollar signs were dancing in my head, I passed another garage, and did stop in for a second opinion. The gentelman informed me that he would test my car with his computer on the spot for free, but of course if it passed the computer test and I wanted him to do the inspection, I would be charged. Sounded good to me! The gentelman hooked my car up, and his equipment picked up my computer! Hallelujah lol! He then asked me if I would like him to proceed with the inspection. Yes please! 10 minutes later my car was legally tested, and legally passed! :) I called Fred's. I explained to them that I did go for a second opinion, and ended up having my car inspected at that location. I expressed to them that my vehicle did in fact hook up to the computer at another location, and therefore I did ask for a refund. I did not get it. Their policy is that they will re-test and re-inspect the vehicle again for free, within 60 days of the current date, after whatever problem said client needs fixed is addressed. My policy, is that my vehicle clearly did not need to go through the ringer and my wallet through a vice, for nothing. My vehicle hooked up at another location, and passed. Period. All of this, took place within less then 1 hour. Their stance (via their word) was that all other cars at their location today, passed inspection. Therefore, by default of course, my car must have been the problem. I understand their side - to a small degree. I understand from my side, as the consumer, I feel duped. For the $35.00 refund they could have acknowledged, within an hour, and I would have driven back there to show proof of my car passing inspection elsewhere - they lost a consumer, and received my experience online via a poor review.
