While shelter in place, I needed to recaulk my bathtub, but then I noticed it was actually grout. It needed to get done ASAP as there was some grout missing in places, and I was worried about water getting behind the tub. I did a lot of research online, and decided, after receiving quotes, I decided to go with Frediani Custom tile. It wasn't the cheapest option (but still very competitive, within $50 of the cheapest option), however, based on my research, they seemed to be reliable and do a really good job (and had no lawsuits that I could find, against them). They were very responsive to all of my questions, including adding on recaulking of my kitchen sink that day. Carlos came over for about 15 min in the morning, and then worked with me on color matches of the grout. We decided to caulk the bathtub, and regrout under my mirror, where less water reaches, and to match the rest of the decor. After going to home depot to get the grout of the color we decided on, he came back and went straight to work. Because it's shelter in place and everything going on, he was very respectful of distance, wore a mask the whole time, took his shoes off in the hallway outside and in general, was very professional and pleasant. When all was said and done, he did a great job, and well worth the money. He took his time to do a good job, and it shows! Hopefully I won't need them anytime soon, but I've already recommended them to my sister who needs similar work done. read more

We hired Paolo Frediani to install tile in our Sunset District center patio, and I honestly wish I could give him and his installer Simon six stars. The first thing Paolo did when he came by to give us an estimate was assess our initial problem (which was a leaky center patio), "think out loud" through a number of alternatives, and then tell us that he wasn't completely sure whether tiling over the cement patio would solve our leak problems. After all, we really didn't know whether the leak was coming from under the doors or windows, through the cracked concrete, or from somewhere else. So we ended up hiring The Restoration Company (see my other Yelp reviews) to put down some waterproof elastomeric paint before we called Paolo back to do the tile. And I could not be happier with just how beautiful this tile looks. My God! He has an established relationship with Daltile in South San Francisco, which helps ensure tile quality, price, etc. Simon, the installer, was an absolute artisan, and his careful, excruciatingly detailed work in our patio-of-many-angles showed in the finished masterpiece. In addition, Paolo is such a perfectionist that he spent many hours ensuring that every last detail was talked through and taken care of -- details I probably wouldn't have noticed on my own in a million years. And he and Simon were always on time and always cleaned up very well, taking their extra grout, etc. back with them so as not to dump anything that would harm the environment. And their rates are really good for the exquisite work they did. It's not often that you find a contractor who is so decent, honorable, talented, and a pleasure to work with. We also cannot say enough good things about Paolo and his crew. It starts with the fact that Paolo actually responded to an email request (how refreshing is that!). I didn't meet Paolo, but my husband talked to him on the phone several times and said he was very professional and a really nice guy. He also gave us a good price (not cheap, just good - we'd had other tile jobs done here and in our previous home, so we knew what was high, low and. "Just right", and this felt "just right"). Second, Paolo and his installer, Carlos, always showed up when they said they said they would, and kept us informed (even calling to tell us jury duty might interfere with the schedule). Carlos helped my husband select the layout and grout width. They set up a little "clean area" in our dining room, and left the place spotless. They did the work on sequential days, unlike our previous installer would would do a half day's work and then not show up for another week. And most of all, Carlos did an amazing installation! Several years ago Paolo did a wonderful job in replacing the lengthy front step tiles to my home. Recently I incurred water damage in the downstairs area, including the kitchen there. I called upon Paolo to replace the linoleum floor there with porcelain tiles and some travertine mosaic tiles for a portion of the wall. I hired Frediani Tile to install tile on the floor and walls in my bathroom. Their attention to detail is fantastic. We spent several hours just working on the layout. Carlos did a majority of the installation work and his attention to detail is commendable. He worked hard to get the walls flush for the ceramic and decorative tile. This was no easy task since he was installing tile floor to ceiling in a 75 year old house. The tile and grout joints are smooth throughout. Carlos is extremely clean leaving the site as clean in the evening as he found it in the morning. I have had other tile work done in the past but not with the same level of quality. You will never find a better tile installer!! We recently had a large kitchen tile job by Paolo and from start to finish he was a pleasure to work with and extremely skilled at his craft. How many times do contractors actually promptly return calls, emails, texts? Well he is remarkable at customer care and service. He helped us pick out choice of tile, made a first assessment of layout and footage. Showed up exactly on time. Was Spotless and incredibly exacting in his work. He came in nearly $800 below his estimate range and his price overall was very competitive from a couple of quotes I had gotten over the phone by other tilers. He even kept an eye on our dog as he was home with him while we were at work. Paolo finished the job on time, below budget-and beautifully done. All the people in our parking and front desk even commented on how nice he was coming in and out over a few days time. He spent the time to patiently explain every aspect if the job and that made us feel confident of his expertise. Paolo was fabulous to work with! He (& Carlos) installed tile around our fireplace insert. Although the project sounds straightforward, because the insert has a curved arch shape, it was a challenge. But Paolo knows what he is doing, and discussed all options with us, advised on potential problems, made recommendations when necessary - and made it fun! My husband & I laid out all of the honey onyx tile, in a pattern that we liked, and Paolo installed it just the way we wanted.
