Overall, cake preparation & consistency is hit or miss. I've had some cakes that were amazing and others that were below standard. I figure that if you're going to spend $35 on a 10 inch round cake, it should be worth it every time, without fail. My experience today: I bought a chocolate cake with strawberry filling & whipped cream frosting. Half of the berries decorating the top of the cake were not ripe & the hand writing for the "happy birthday" statement was shaky and not presentable to the guest of honor (I had to remove the chocolate disc on top of the cake and present it without a greeting). Yet just last week, I was at a retirement party where a Frederick's cake was served & that cake was worthy of being put on a postcard. This place makes consistently beautiful products. I really appreciated all the time they took to get my order right - they made an anniversary cake for my parents. Last minute I asked if the cake could be ready the day before I asked and they were perfectly accommodating. My only problem is the cake was dry. So I was slightly disappointed. Frederick's is AMAZING. If you sign up for their Sweet Rewards they occasionally send you coupons for a free piece of cake (March was Bailey's Irish Cream flavored cake, yum) to get you in the store. The fruit tarts are to die for, we get them for special occasions. Never been disappointed with anything in the store. If they are out of a pastry you're looking for they will usually ask if you mind waiting a few minutes while they assemble a fresh one. A little expensive, but well worth the money! read more

My family has been using Frederick's for cakes for years. We have always been more than happy with their products, but today I was blown away. Yesterday, my father picked up a cake for my sons 5th birthday party that we were hosting today. Upon seeing the cake, my mother who purchased it and spoke to the bakers was disappointed. Although the cake was beautiful, it was not what she had discussed with the bakers and what my son had asked for. She called Frederick's to let them know, not expecting them to do much about it other than be aware of the situation. She was connected to Sue, the baker in Amherst, who not only made us a new cake free of charge, but personally delivered it today. Their outstanding products have always kept us coming back, but this level of above and beyond customer service has made us customers for life. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for the best pastries and service. read more

walk in to the bakery to purchase a birthday cake for my mother's 85th birthday, I haven't been to Frederick's in a few years. I was very disappointed as their was not too many cakes to choice from. But, we choose the purple velvet cake which was $38.00, it was so sweet not one person out of 10 people liked the cake at all. It was so sweet, felt like you were eating straight sugar out of the bowl. I contacted the Manager, of my disappointment and to spend almost $40 for a cake and not even offer me a refund. The manager's responds was when you come in next time, we can help you find a cake that is to your liking. If 10 people through the cake in the trash. My experience was terrible. I went for a wedding cake tasting. The cake was dry, the fillings were premade, like jellies NOT fresh. The 'teen' taking notes about our cake was not even the same person who would be making our cake. Which i did not like. They didn't make their cakes in the bakery we met at, they were making them out of their other store about 1 hour away, AND Then wantd to charge me $75 for delievery. So bassically, if you want to pay triple the prices and have a standard boring tasteless wedding cake....GO to Fredricks read more

I have been hearing about Frederick's Pastries for years... seen them on "Phantom Gourmet" and knew they had won "NH Best of.." several years in a row...13, I think? And, I am a self-proclaimed "cupcake whore", so imagine my excitement when I pulled into the strip mall in Bedford for lunch a T-Bones and saw Frederick's beside them!!! WOW!! I barely ate my lunch, all I could think about was heading next door for a cupcake! I was thrilled upon walking in the door... they had every pastry imaginable and a beautiful presentation... It was a difficult decision, but I finally chose two cupcakes to enjoy later at home. I nearly choked at the price... Yes, they were large, but it was almost $10 for 2 cupcakes! I thought about those cupcakes all afternoon (yes, I know I have issues-lol) When I got home, my boyfriend and I opened the package, poured the milk, and got ready to indulge...from the first bite, I was disappointed... the frosting too sweet and greasy (not buttercream) and there was too much of it...the cake part very dry and crumbly... we didn't finish either of them... not worth the calories in my opinion. As I had previously ordered several cakes for Birthday and graduation parties, I decided to order a b-day cake for my son's 20th Birthday celebration. As always, it was beautifully decorated and ready on time. It was a marble cake with chocolate mousse and a vanilla butter cream frosting. Unfortunately, the proportion of butter cream frosting was way off. It was predominantly big bites of butter cream with a splash of mousse and cake. I am looking for the frosting to be a light compliment to the flavor of the cake - most was not eaten and for the price paid a big disappointment. We had Frederick's do an assortment of small desserts and a cake topper for our wedding, and we were thrilled with how excellent everything was! Even after the wedding our friends and family have comments to us on how amazing the desserts were! Everything was absolutely delicious! Our small cake topper was beautiful! They provided fresh flowers (the color of my choice) for free which was a wonderful addition, and gave the cake a simple and elegant look. They also delivered the desserts to our venue which was one less thing me and my wedding party needed to worry about. Everyone we spoke to at Frederick's was kind, helpful and professional. Decided to give another try after a less-than-expected first impression. While I cannot recommend the cupcakes (I feel after trying 3 kinds all were too dry for my taste), other items are much superior here. Our reception venue (Executive Court in Manchester - see other review) included a cake from either Fredericks or Jacques and while both options were delicious, we chose Fredericks after meeting them at a wedding expo. Our cake tasting was one of the highlights of our wedding planning (just sit here and eat cake? OK!) and it was a tough decision as all were so wonderful. We chose the Lilly design which was traditional but with a contemporary flair. As neither of us is fond of lilies, they changed the flowers on the cake to roses. We had the option of using sugar or real flowers, we chose the sugar and they were impeccable. The cake was as beautiful as a fondant cake but as they use butter cream frosting, it was still delicious. We were not sure if we should serve up the top layer or freeze and save it for our 1st anniversary. Fredericks allows you to come back a year later and for $30 they will completely re-create the top layer so we can enjoy a fresh cake that looks just like our original wedding cake. The staff was all very friendly, accommodating and had good communication with us throughout the process. Highly recommended. read more

Went in a couple weeks ago with my son and husband to get him some pastries for his birthday. We got 2 cream puffs, chocolate cupcake, vanilla cupcake, purple velvet cupcake and something else. I would have kept ordering but the women seemed impatient so we just wrapped it up and paid. Went home and later ate them. All very good. The frosting was so super sweet though. I gave my 3 year old half a cupcake and he didn't even want it. Pretty moist cake part thought. The cream puffs are my favorite here. I sent my husband back the next day to get the rest of what we originally wanted. The strawberry cheesecake is literally the best dessert ever. More cream puffs and fruit tarts. The pastries are pretty good but I can't get over the service. I haven't been there in about 3 years because the last time it was more of the same. Great pastries but nobody seems to want to help me when I come in. I have ordered online and that seemed a little better. read more
