If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Started seeing Frederick Dermatology in October 2024. The NP put on medication for hair-loss, and did not warn or advise me about the potential side effects( face/swelling+dark circles under eyes). I had a follow up Feb 2025, but missed the appointment due to the office NEVER sending me a reminder, but they made sure to charge me for a no show fee immediately. I was more upset about missing the appointment than about the late fee to be honest. I insisted they find me appointment because I had waited 3 months for this appointment and wasn't going to wait 3 more months. They booked me with another NP. When I saw the NP and explained what was happening, she seemed unconcerned and told me to just lower the dose. The side effects continued to get worse and worse but I didn't want to just stop taking the medication without consulting the medical provider 1st. I had a follow up end of June 2025. 2 weeks before the follow up, they called me to tell the NP will be on VACATION that day can't see anymore. And then, they tell me the next appointment available was end of August 2025. I was in disbelief, I had been struggling with extreme face swelling and fluid retention and wanted to wait 3 more months. I insisted they find me closer appointment. They did but I couldn't get leave for new date at all. I was stuck waiting till August 2025. The side effects were so bad, I couldn't even make it to August. I stopped taking the medication in July. When I finally saw the NP, I explained my issues, it was like talking to a wall. I've never felt more invisible in my life. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF, DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE. I wish I had looked up the reviews on Yelp and not Google. I could've saved my beautiful face, now I'm stuck with fluid retention in my neck and face. Waited three months for an appointment. Got pre-paperwork by text. Hard to fill out on a phone so went early to complete. One of the forms is a financial statement that requires you to give your credit card info and authorize them to keep it on file and charge you for any balance billing without your prior authority. All before you are ever seen as a patient. I didn't want to do this and they said, do it or don't be seen. I offered to sign off on a credit check or leave a deposit of $500 in case. No deal. This practice cares more about the business side of what it does than providing care. I should have read the yelp reviews before booking an appointment. The google reviews are much better; however, even there if you read far enough, you'll find out about their financial policies that require a credit card and the ability to charge against it without your approval. They should tell people when they call to make an appointment that this is their policy so they can decide well in advance if they want to book. So many people over the past four plus years have actually said in their reviews that they are "all about the money". Sadly, that was my experience, too. read more

TL:DR : Do not go here. They don't tell you how much will be billed to insurance; they make you leave your card on file; and they automatically charge your card without notice weeks later. In the end, for a 10 min apt, they charged me triple ($248) for the same exact procedure elsewhere ($89). Below I provide more details of my experience. I am surprised to see so many positive reviews on google (4.9!) of this place (although Yelp's ratings are more realistic with 2.7! I wish I checked Yelp first) It took me months to get an appointment, and when I arrived, I was shocked to learn that providing a credit card to leave on file was mandatory for automatic billing. I have never been to a place that made you leave your credit card before telling you how much the cost would be or when you would have to pay it. I inquired if that was necessary, or if I could just pay the balance once it is billed. They said, "Yes, this is a company policy. if you don't like that, you are free to go elsewhere." It was a bit too late for me to cancel the appointment I waited months for, so I went ahead and gave them my card. Despite inquiring how much the visit would be and when I would be charged for it on my card, they refused to share that information, citing that it depends on what is billed during the appointment and what my insurance covers. Now, I did not like the principle of this policy, but I was already there, and I knew from having the same procedure at another dermatologist, that the cost would be roughly $90. I left my credit card and then sat down. My name was called, I saw the dermatologist (nurse practitioner I think) - she was nice enough. I was in and out in TEN minutes. A few weeks later, without any notice from Frederick Dermatology, my credit card was automatically charged $248.01. This is almost 3x what my out of pocket expense was for the exact same procedure at Integrated Dermatology in DC (and at that place, they bill insurance, and then bill me, and I provide my credit card after that is over, and I know exactly what to expect.) Here is a breakdown of cost from the two places, for the exact same procedure (10 minutes, in and out, for a cryotherapy treatment). Frederick Dermatology billed $396 to my insurance, of which my insurance covered $106.25, and I was left to pay the balance of $248.01. However, they did not bill me or call me, they just charged my card on file. Integrated Dermatology in DC, for the same procedure, billed my insurance $196.09, insurance covered the exact same amount, $106.25, and I paid $89.84. So infuriating. Why would the initial billing be so much more? My complaints with Frederick Dermatology are the lack of transparency in cost structure and billing, the automatic charge of credit card, and charging more than double for the same procedure (which meant I paid out of pocket more than 3x for the same procedure). If they were transparent about the costs, I would have no reason to complain. It's the lack of transparency, and the audacity to keep a card on file and charge without any notice that makes me so angry. I told them what I was there for, so they should have said "our typically billing for that is $X." If they had said that, I could have backed out earlier. It appears that many people like this place, but I will definitely not be back. I have already tried to call them twice to get my credit card removed from their "automatic file." However, I was on hold for 15 minutes, and then someone came on to ask me to continue to hold. So I hung up, and wrote this review. read more

This has been theist unprofessional, disappointing experience I've ever had with a type of medical service. For one, I scheduled an appointment in advance and never received proper confirmation that I was on schedule. I had to call to confirm. Second, when I arrived the next month for my consultation, I was told someone tried calling me and left a voice mail the week before to reschedule. That is completely understandable and valid, BUT....NO ONE EVER LEFT ME A VOICEMAIL. Someone tried calling me ONCE and never called again. They didn't even try emailing me! And this is super frustrating because I live almost an hour away! And they told me there was nothing they could do and so sorry. Deeply disappointing experience, someone on staff who's in charge of scheduling obviously isn't doing their job. My mother had a great experience here years before, but unfortunately I can't say the same for myself. Definitely will not try rescheduling with Frederick Dermatology Associates. read more

1/ Negative experience from the moment I made the appointment, which was over 3 months in advance for a new patient. I expected to see the Doctor, but no- I saw the nurse practitioner. I would think with a new patient entering your practice it would be with the ONLY doctor there. 2/ I don't leave my credit card on file with ANY organization. Period. THEY WOULD NOT SEE ME, even if I paid my co pay in advance. Unacceptable. I would have left, but again I waited for months to see a DOCTOR, and was then faced with an urgent situation. 3/. The NP prescribed medication and I needed to wait UNTIL END OF DAY for them to be sent to pharmacy?? Wtf? If I had known that, I would have requested hard copy prescriptions. PS))) I will not be returning to that practice under any circumstances. 4/ the front staff was polite. But ineffective in getting a message to NP in a timely fashion. All about the money. I couldn't believe the prices for acne and rosacea treatments that they push here. Our insurance (major carrier) would not cover any of them. The nurse here even admitted that insurance doesn't often cover them. So why push these meds so hard? Who does it benefit? Soolantra, Epiduo Forte, Oracea. All hundreds of dollars. None covered by our insurance. Let us discuss each drug in turn. Soolantra is made from ivermectin; a horse de-wormer. It is sold at feed stores and online for $5. It's the same thing, just a higher concentration and a tiny fraction of the cost. Epiduo forte is just adapalene and benzoyl peroxide. Get them both over the counter for roughly $20 total. No prescription required. Oracea is an extended release doxycycline. Our pharmacist suggested just take half dose twice a day for the same effect. Doxycycline can be acquired for $15 or less but Oracea, you guessed it, costs hundreds of dollars. I am not a doctor, nor am I a pharmacist. I am not offering anyone medical advice. I have had both medical and cosmetic care here and love it! My dermatologist is attentive and listens to my concerns. Bedside manners are important to me and she is very professional! I also see Raejean on the cosmetic side for micro needling and she is incredible at what she does. I simply cannot say enough good things about Raejean's technique. I recently left a review for her work and I stand behind the quality of care she gives. I have paid for several treatments of micro needling with her and every time she outdoes herself. If you struggle with uneven skin and large pores, I definitely recommend micro needling with Raejean. She can forever take my money because my skin has changed for the better. read more

I was shocked at all the negative reviews, so I read through a few and noticed some common complaints so I thought I'd share my experience as it related to them: 1. Asking for a credit card to keep on file. I had no problem with this. They are providing a service for you and expect charges to be covered. Life isn't free. If you are generally concerned, call your insurance company and see what is covered first before going to the appointment. 2. Quick appointments - When is this a bad thing? I was shocked at how quick my annual once over was and I was glad! I did think it was quite thorough, however. My whole body was looked over and freckles/moles they wanted to keep an eye on were noticed. 3. Pushing cosmetic services - none were offered to me and I was kind of bummed, because I had marked in my paperwork I was interested in laser treatment and had mentioned to the assistant that I had a freckle I would like removed. I was never asked about these things and I was just so happy to be out of there fast and head back to my growing inbox at work that I figured I could call in another time. Everyone was super friendly from the receptionist to the dermatologist and her assistant. I'll definitely be back because it's so quick and easy. Despite the busy waiting room, I was seen at 9:02 for a 9:00AM appointment. That's rare! read more

I was a patient for years, started with Dr. Hogan before he passed. Care was excellent. However, my wife and I were turned away for treatment because of their policy of filing a credit card. We refused because we are not customers, but patients. Our exams and treatments are covered fully by Medicare and a secondary insurance. Extremely disappointed in management's policy. We have taken their option "to seek dermatological care elsewhere if you do not accept our policy." There are cybersecurity implications with this policy and possibly legal. read more

Came here based off the recommendation of a friend to get a few moles checked. The physician assistant I saw decided one was worthy of a biopsy. Since they were running behind schedule, I was told to come back in a few months and they'll biopsy it then. I'm sorry, what? If you're truly concerned about the mole enough to take it off, why would you be okay waiting a few months? I left feeling very uneasy and stressed. Needless to say I will be finding another practice for a second opinion. To make matters worse, my friend went in a few days ago for her yearly mole check. Although none of her moles had changed, the physician assistant recommended removing one of them. She was able to get hers removed same day, but she left feeling very confused why they removed it after a year when nothing had changed. Then a few days later the wound was infected despite her following their care instructions! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Moe at this practice for many years and have been nothing less than impressed. Dr. Moe is amazing as well as all of her nurses, technicians and office staff. It is a very professional and pleasant environment for all patients. I have never once felt pressured to do any procedures, purchase any makeup or skincare, etc. In addition to cosmetic, Dr. Moe handles my my regular skin cancer checks. She was able to catch my squamous cell carcinoma cancer early and have her surgeon remove it with minimal scaring. I recommend this practice to everyone with much enthusiasm! read more

Very disappointed in my first to Frederick Dermatology. It's obvious is all about making as much money as they can. I went to Frederick Derm on June 9th for a yearly cancer screening/skin check. The skin check was quick and I'm not sure that thorough. BEWARE, when you check in you must sign a document that states your credit card can be charged for any balance due. My credit card was charged on June 23, two days after receiving a bill from Frederick Derm (received June 21). More importantly, I had not received a statement from my health insurance company annotating what they covered, that statement arrived in the mail, June 24. I don't understand, if you have paid your copay at the time of your appointment, haven't had a chance to receive your health insurance statement, why there is such a rush to charge your credit card. read more

They make you sign a form that states if your insurance doesn't cover services they will automatically charge your card, which is required and must remain on file before you receive service. When I was seen for my chronic eczema I was told that it's my own fault and it won't ever get better. I went in for light therapy and the tech or assistant almost gave me the wrong procedure. Wtf! Don't you check the patient's chart and verify information before treating someone? Every time I walk in, there is one lady at the front desk, who sits to the left, who is so impersonal and never greets you. She makes you stand there until the other front desk lady talks to you. BEWARE! Deposits made for services are non-refundable. I gave a deposit for a treatment on one of their machines and signed the consent forms and told them I would call them when I got home to schedule. After thinking about it, I called to cancel and asked for my deposit back. They said their policy states that deposits are non-refundable. When I said that was unacceptable, I was told they would discuss with Dr. Moh and get back to me. They called back and said they would give me half, but for me not to tell anyone. I said that was still unacceptable. I was told that is the policy and that I signed the contract stating such. I didn't get a copy of what I signed but told her someone should have told me that verbally. Because I demanded a refund, they said i would get my refund, but that they were going to send me a dismissive letter and I can no longer do business with them. My husband and I have gone there every six months for years and I have spent a good bit of money there. I don't need a dismissive letter to stop going there. I believe this is poor business practice and obviously, they care more about getting money than customer satisfaction. read more

Didn't spend any time on my back and it's a mine field of freckles and moles. As a child in the 70's I had MANY blistering sunburns, a great candidate for skin issues. BE WARNED - Frederick Dermatology will refuse treatment to you if you do not write your credit card information on paper, allow them to store it, and pre-authorize pulling funds from your account. I have to say, when you show up and an office demands you keep a credit card ON FILE in their records with a signature on file, I will never do business with them. I was denied service due to this unreasonable demand, which both government agencies and watchdog groups strongly advise against doing, as it is a sure way to allow potential compromise of security. Many credit card companies actually strongly say do not let anyone keeping your card info on file unless there is frequent and recurring (at least monthly) billing...which simply does not apply for everybody here, and given many don't, it is not a genuine necessity and bona-fide need in my opinion and apparently other medical-related practices I've been to, including dermatologists. I've dumped a dermatologist for this once before and have again today. A big red flag for this place and this demand as a security risk! No company needs anything but what is needed for immediate payment of what is due. I even offered to pay in full then and there...so tell me that it is needed...and I'll tell you that's BS. I don't care how good other reviews are, it's not worth the risk. Want to be secure? This isn't the place for you. Want to see the full rules, look up PCI Security Standards...even they don't recommend in most cases unless it's a genuine business necessity. I had been a patient of Dr. Hogan since they opened their office. I have insurance and have had procedures done there. I am on disability and have limited income and no credit card, though I have had cosmetic procedures done that I paid for by saving up. My last visit with a different financial manager put me in tears since I refused to give them my debit card. The receptionist and the assistants told me flat out I was no longer wanted as a patient! If you have cash to burn and don't care that your doctor only wants your money, then sign up! I am looking for another dermatologist. I could not have had a more different experience from the other reviewers. I'm sorry they had such an awful experience. My son and I both were treated very well! I left feeling like we had a good grasp on our treatment plans and weren't rushed out. We were both given name brand prescriptions with coupons and several samples. She also told us that if when filled, the prescriptions were too expensive, to please have the pharmacy call her and she would discuss other alternatives. As for having to leave a credit card on file, this seems to be common practice in most doctor offices now. My own gp does the same thing. After 6-8 weeks or so, I will update this review with the results of our treatments. For now, I am extremely pleased and would absolutely recommend Frederick Dermatology Associates. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Moe's for over 2 years now and have been treated for both medical and cosmetic issues. She treats each of my concerns with competence, dignity, respect, kindness and empathy. She doesn't push anything yet makes me aware of what is available and then leaves it at that. She continues to be mindful of my budget while still providing great results. On occasion, there is some type of coupon, manufacturer discount or special that I can take advantage of. I also see Trish whose biggest asset besides her competence is her listening skills. She hears you and responds appropriately. She really is a wealth of knowledge and has never steered me wrong. There have been a few minor issues with office staff but it is with the newer ones - learning curves and all - but there are many that are helpful, knowledgeable and provide good customer service. Dr. Moe, Dr. Hogan & their NP's have all been extremely effective & conservative in their treatments & recommendations. I scheduled a mole review appointment and wrote on my form I had a few cosmetic questions. My mole review was great. Dr Moe described everything she was doing and would tell me the different types of moles I had and listening to my concerns about some of my moles. Nothing was biopsied "just because" she said if I had any concerns then I could have them tested but the decision was mine. The cosmetic recommendations were completely at my request and the information was very helpful. They give you recommendations and you can choose to buy the product or not without feeling pressured. I had made an appointment that was cancelled, unbeknownst to me. I was livid, having taken the day off etc. But after I complained, they gave me a credit and invited me for a second consultation. At 2nd consultation, I learned about different fixes for the problem I'd come in with (that they hadn't mentioned in the 1st one) -- in the end, it will cost me 2x as much as I was planning (different procedures). I've had the best experience with Dr. Moe! I had Botox on my forehead and a laser treatment on my face for sun damage and rosacea. She was incredibly thorough, explaining every step of the process because it was my first time for both. Her staff answered my 100 questions with grace. I came in a month later for my check up and she suggested products that would help me save money in the long run which I REALLY appreciated. It's surprising to read reviews that this company is all about money.... she's tried everything in her power to save me money and find the most cost effective treatment plan for procedures that are elective. Beware...this office is all about their bottom line and not about patient care. I went in for a wart, Dr. Hogan froze it off (total time for freezing of wart...5 seconds). He then tried to talk me into having cosmetic work done (10 minutes). He charged $200 for "surgery". They have to pay for their fancy receptionist area and radio ad time. After paying my copay, the front desk person said I owed more money...what? I was told they were in-network by the office personnel over the phone and then told at the office that they weren't. Wow. I have been a patient at Frederick Dermatology for several years and highly recommend them to anyone looking for medical and cosmetic dermatology. They do my annual skin check for melanoma (which EVERYONE should have) and have the most rejuvenating facial service (hydra facial) I've ever experienced, and I've tried a few ;) their laser treatments have erased sun damage spots, wrinkles and broken veins and I'm currently doing the light sheer hair removal which is PAINLESS, quick and amazing. Dr. Hogan and Dr. Moe are both fantastic, the staff are lovely and the offices and equipment state of the art. They never recommend anything that isn't going to be effective and research treatment options extensively so they can give patients the best results possible. They also have fabulous products and cosmeticians to show you how to make the most of your features. read more

I have been a patient at Frederick Dermatology for several months. My experience has been outstanding! I have been informed of a variety of treatment options with no pressure to get any expensive treatments. In fact, I was given a prescription for a medicine to treat redness, and I they suggested a pharmacy where I was able to get it for $35 (and it was shipped to me in 2 days for free). I was also introduced to the fabulous line of Jane Iredale make up, which has truly been life-changing. The staff at Frederick Dermatology are friendly and helpful! read more

I never, ever, write a review, but I feel compelled to write one this time. I have been going to Dr. Moe for 4 or 5 years now. I have been more than pleased with her caring manner; she seems very knowledgeable and has tried hard to meet my needs. As a matter of fact, the entire staff has always been attentive, kind and helpful. Things have not always been perfect - I once had a severe reaction to a cosmetic clean-up, she had already left the office for a holiday weekend and her staff did not get back to me to advise me. I spent about 4 days taking benadryl, soaking in warm water and sleeping to avoid the itching and pain. I also have a recurring skin condition, cause unknown, but I guess sometimes it is difficult to determine the pathology. She called in Dr.Hogan to consult, but still the condition keeps reoccurring and we do not know why or what to do about it. Then, last July, my employer changed healthcare providers (unhappily - because I was more than satisfied with my former provider - UnitedHealth Care). I now have CareFirst. I am very fortunate to have comprehensive health coverage through my work. Both companies are major insurance companies and are accepted widely. Frederick Dermatology, however, refuses to be in network for CareFirst for whatever reason. Continuing to go there for medical needs would result in me paying a lot more money out-of-pocket than just my regular co-pays. I cannot afford to do this. I am so disappointed that such a lucrative practice cannot come to an agreement that would prioritize continuity of care for its patients. It does appear that the "bottom line" takes priority over patient needs. My employer is one of the largest in Frederick County, so it is also surprising that the practice is willing to possibly lose a large number of patients. So...I thought I would continue going for a cosmetic service I have had several times in the past. Insurance doesn't cover that anyway. The first time I went the procedure was $100. The second time I went it was $150. This time I was quoted a rate of $300. I feel like the rate increases are exhorbitant. Oh yeah - the credit card thing. That happened to me too - I was getting a cosmetic clean-up (paying out of pocket) and I think she noticed something and did a biopsy. I paid with a check at the front desk before I went in for the clean-up. When my credit card bill came, there was a charge for medical treatment as well. I understand, but it is disconcerting when a charge is slapped on your bill with no notification or without your knowledge. My rating would have been higher except I am now in a bind over the insurance issue. I was hoping that Frederick Dermatology and CareFirst would come to an agreement because if they had I would never be looking for another dermatologist. read more

I went to have a suspicious mole checked (turned out to be cancerous) and the very first thing they wanted was unfettered access to my credit card even though I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance. Because I wouldn't give the access (I was even taken before their Office Manager for an "arm twisting") I was not allowed to see Doctor Hogan.
