Everything there has been going down hill since the new owner took over a couple of years ago. Customer service is nonexistent. Their computer sales system crashed months ago and they have not purchased a new system yet. They have even less inventory than when the prior owners had the shop. With how hard covid lockdown has been on retail stores you would think they would be doing all they could to get and keep the loyal business. The employees are doing the best they can with what little they can to help customers. This was the last time we will use them. I unfortunately can no longer recommend them. You want good professional service to hydro and vip your tanks, take them to F&M Fire Protection in Hyattsville. They took care of our tanks in 24 hours, not 6+ weeks.

On an impulse I gave Bruce at Capital Paddlesports a call to see if they had any in stock. He confirmed that they did and said that if I ever wanted to try one out for free, he hosts periodic demo days in DC. I had just been to my friend's house to try his, so I wasn't interested in the demo but was still on the fence. Bruce took the time to answer all of my questions without pushing me to purchase. He even said that if I wanted I could come over to his shop and try one out to see what I thought. I told him I would think about it and asked him to send me a quote. Bruce sent the quote through quickly via email, and after a quick conversation with my wife I decided to drive out to Frederick and buy! When I showed up Bruce greeted me and showed me the differences between the different one wheel options and answered a bunch of questions I had about using and maintaining one. In the end, he spent a solid hour answering questions and giving me advice. This was legitimately one of the best retail experiences I have had. I don't mean to gush, but it is rare to meet someone selling you something who is more focused on making sure you are getting what you want than trying to line their own pockets. This was a sale won through zero pressure and just a lot of genuine helpful service. Always, if you are in the market for a onewhee, give him a call. He isn't in the shop 24/7 so make sure you call before you go down there. I would highly recommend buying form him instead of direct from one wheel. You will get it much faster, but you will also get a lot of useful information in the process.

It's perfect for walks or biking and there's side paths that lead you closer to the water. Parking is before the Marc train tracks. Or you can cross the tracks over the one lane bridge and park where the canal entrance is. There's a dock there to unload your boat/kayak into the water. Someday I hope to do that. I need to bring my bike here and check this trail out but for now, I've got my feet to do my walks/hikes here!

This was one of the funnest experiences I've had in awhile! So much so that I'm even going to…read moreignore how hard it was to find the actual creek to canoe/kayak/raft in & once you're in the area, you're lucky if you have one bar of cell reception. That said, we found our location, with the intention of rafting until we met a nice gentleman with loads of experience and advice considering we were newbies. My fiancé and I chose to Kayak so we could be together. We opted to kayak on the calmer side of the creek to get our feet wet. No pun intended and enjoyed one of the most beautiful, relaxing scenic experiences ever. Next time, we're going to go on the four hour aggressive side of the creek experience & I will edit this to talk about that experience. That said, I had the greatest time and can't wait to return in two weeks.

They essentially work with you to figure out if kayaking or canoeing is better (mostly dictated by water level that day), teach you pointers before you get in the water, and even give you a map and a zip lock bag for valuables before sending you on your merry way down the river... You show up at their address at Devil's backbone (about 15 minute drive from Antietam Battlefield and Inn at Antietam, both also part of my list) and it's a residence with a big garage. It seems deceiving until you notice all the kayaks and canoes laying around which are the dead giveaway. They have a wonderful dog who may be the first to greet you and they spend time with you to make sure you are comfortable with your kayak or canoe and with the map. Life jacket and ore(s) included of course. They let you know if there are any downed trees or other obstacles and how to navigate around them which is clutch. It's a national park and you're literally canoeing through the battlefield so the river isn't exactly maintained routinely, so pay attention to what you're told about downed trees (lean forward, not back when going under a low hanging tree). The run is awesome! We did the "most asked for" which is labeled as such on their website from Devil's Backbone to Burnside Bridge (an important battlefield site) and it was about 8 miles or 4 hours. The map they give you is very detailed so you know exactly where you are and when to get out. They meet you at the end to drive you back to your car which is nice so you're not totally on your own. This really felt like genuine canoeing to me- not commercialized, rock and tree obstacles along the way to challenge you, and not even that many houses along the river so you really feel like you're at one with nature. Oh, and there are lots of cows mooing to cheer you on along the way. Arranging the trip and paying for it are super simple. just call them and they have a great sense of humor and after just a mere minute, you know they care and want you to have a great time. Their website has a ton of information so don't be overwhelmed- just comb through it and it's as thorough as you can get: what to bring, what not to bring, what to wear, the water level and rapid categories that you'll see, as well as local places to stay and eat (this is how I found Inn at Antietam). If the water is at such a height to allow you to pull over for lunch, ask them where it is best to do so. At one point, it seemed on the map that there's a general store close to the river if someone stays behind with the gear! Again, ask them. Go on a weekday- we were the only paddlers we saw on the whole river and we ran into only a family wading into the water. Otherwise, we were totally isolated and it was wonderful and peaceful. Bring sunscreen. Bring a sense of adventure. The owners are super and have great stories. You'll love it.

There are also some outdoor, mat-only boxes. You get a lot of balls for the money, and there is a small pro shop and a house PGA-qualified pro if you want to schedule lessons. Basically, think the driving range in "Tin Cup," though they don't serve beer.

Awesome place!! My climbing buddy and I came to the Boulder Yard after all of our friends kept…read moresaying "Just go!!!" So we made a day trip of it. First, Steve, the owner, is great. He chatted with us for a really long time, asking about what we were interested in, why we popped in, and on and on. He also told us his own history and the Boulder Yard's history. He gave us a few specific suggestions and ideas, including that his sets are a bit different than most (they are) and, more important, his floor cushioning is very different than most other gyms. It is. It is much MUCH softer than most which is good but he suggested taking a few falls before we went too high just to get used to the feel. It's also like walking on the beach --- walking from one side of the room to the other will wear out your legs. His walls are not textured (mostly) so if you're planning to smear a lot --- well, you won't. But it is more realistic this way. The majority of the place is boulders but he's also got two workout areas with equipment, two separate rooms that he uses to teach some martial arts (didn't catch what kind), and, for the helluvit, a Nintendo/Playstation/whatever setup for, I guess, if you're tired and just want to zone a bit. We'll absolutely be back. We paid $54 for two day passes; quite reasonable I think. Oh, and he does his own woodworking (as do my partner and I). Took a pic of the large benches in the front of his shop. Hand-made from some trees that he grabbed from his own yard. That was cool!!!
