I have been here several times and I always enjoy my visit. This is a perfect scramble/better…read moreball/team event golf course. Danger lurks everywhere but the risk vs. reward, especially off the tee, is bigger here than any other track I have visited. All my visits have been in peak season and during events, so the course has usually been in good to great shape. There are a few exciting holes but nothing that I remember enough to look forward to during each visit. Small pro shop and a solid restaurant make up the good sized club house. The range is fine too. The workers I have encountered were all nice but no one did anything to stand out. Definitely worth a trip or two a year if you live in the DC area.

It's off of either 70 or Route 40, but it's an easy drive coming from most directions, as long as you don't hit any traffic. It was a great experience from beginning to the end, even with temps in the high 90s! The course is beautifully maintained, with some challenging fairways and the greens were fast today. The staff was friendly and check-in was quick. The clubhouse is pretty huge and has the gigantic windows that overlook the course. The cart lady was very nice and checked in on us a few times throughout our outing I can't say anything about the pace of place because we were out there on a weekday, during a heat wave, so there weren't a lot of other golfers. From what I've been told, the weekdays aren't usually that busy and definitely cheaper than other courses in the area, which is crazy. The only reason for giving it 4 stars is because maintenance was out the day we were and they were on quite a few fairways the same time we were so they seemed annoyed that we were in their way and sometimes we had to wait for them to clear out. This may have been a one off so when I go back, I'll update my review.

Unfortunately, our experience with this venue was not what we hoped it would be for our wedding…read moreday. From the beginning, communication was difficult. We were initially told that certain things would be allowed or included, only to later be told that they were not. There were also many additional charges that were not clearly communicated to us upfront, which became frustrating as we got closer to the wedding. Unfortunately, the food was another disappointment. We had a food tasting beforehand and were happy with what we tried, but the food served at our wedding was not up to the same standard. We also paid a fee for our guests to have access to soda, lemonade, tea, and coffee, yet some of our guests were still charged for their drinks. We paid for " servers " and they had one. Under staffed and my guests got salads AFTER their meal and didn't even get any appetizers they requested. It was just all poorly ran. I'm truly disgusted with the entire process. The cleanliness of the venue was also disappointing. The bathroom in the groom's suite was particularly bad, with dead bugs left on the floor. The patio area where we were having our ceremony was supposed to be cleaned beforehand, but it was not. It had rained, and because the area was not properly cleaned/prepared, I had to walk through mud and the bottom of my wedding dress was completely ruined. Throughout the planning process, asking questions often felt like we were being treated as an inconvenience rather than as paying clients trying to make sure everything was right for our wedding day. Unfortunately, the overall experience was stressful and took away from what should have been one of the happiest and most special days of our lives. If I could go back and choose our wedding venue again, I would not choose this one. The one positive thing I will say is that Carl was wonderful. Because of the rain, he generously offered to take us around the course in a golf cart and helped us find different spots to take pictures. We truly appreciated him going out of his way to help us salvage some beautiful memories from the day. I hope the venue takes this feedback seriously, especially when it comes to communication, cleanliness, transparency about additional fees, and following through on what couples are told during the planning process.

One of the most difficult greens I have played. I had many green in regulations but so many three putts. Many in my group struggled to read the putts as well. It has held the Maryland Open and many US Open qualifiers here as well as some bigger junior events. It looks wide open off the tee but you definitely want to place your ball carefully. Driver is not always the right play. I truly think this is the best course in the Frederick area, especially when it's playing firm and fast. The greens are usually some of the best is the area as well. The layout is fantastic. It has a wonderful set of par 4s, a tough set of par 3s, and all the par 5s are reachable depending on the wind direction. But danger does lurk everywhere. I enjoy that they grew more spots with long grass but others may not. Just remember that they are all lateral hazards with a local rule. Holes 3 and 12 are both extremely difficult pars but birdies are available as well. 3 especially might be the toughest par 4 in the region. There may be some forced carries off the tee, so pick the proper ones. Definitely a course I would say to play it a little shorter than your used to if you haven't been here. You may have a lot of wedges and short irons but sometimes the low shot is the right play. The range has been great, and they allow you to hit off grass on weekends. There are two putting greens, one flat and one has extreme slopes. If you haven't been here putt on the latter one as the greens will be similar. The chipping green is small but will help you work on your pitches and flop shots, two shots that are necessary out here. The new-ish bar area is wonderful, the food is delicious, and I love the camera on the 18th green. Staff has always been helpful and nice to me and my friends.
