The tee boxes were dirt and clumps of crabgrass; the traps were hard packed; the mowing hadn't be kept up (yes it had rained Thursday and Friday); and fairways had bald areas and crab grass. We never saw an employee on the course....no marshal, cart or maintenance staff. For $78, I thought it was overpriced and I could play a better course in Montgomery County for nearly half. I've heard it was a good course, but right now, I'd have to give it a "C" at best.

For late winter, the course conditions were pretty good and layout was fun, while challenging. Although the course is a little further than i'd like to travel for golf, this is def a track worth playing atleast once or twice a year. Round on saturay at 9am was $88 which included the cart as well as cart cover. I would consider MSGC on the same difficulty level as worthington manor, but easier than whiskey, md national and richland. I'll return once more when the weather gets warmer and fescue is grown out.

It's off of either 70 or Route 40, but it's an easy drive coming from most directions, as long as you don't hit any traffic. It was a great experience from beginning to the end, even with temps in the high 90s! The course is beautifully maintained, with some challenging fairways and the greens were fast today. The staff was friendly and check-in was quick. The clubhouse is pretty huge and has the gigantic windows that overlook the course. The cart lady was very nice and checked in on us a few times throughout our outing I can't say anything about the pace of place because we were out there on a weekday, during a heat wave, so there weren't a lot of other golfers. From what I've been told, the weekdays aren't usually that busy and definitely cheaper than other courses in the area, which is crazy. The only reason for giving it 4 stars is because maintenance was out the day we were and they were on quite a few fairways the same time we were so they seemed annoyed that we were in their way and sometimes we had to wait for them to clear out. This may have been a one off so when I go back, I'll update my review.

One of the most difficult greens I have played. I had many green in regulations but so many three putts. Many in my group struggled to read the putts as well. It has held the Maryland Open and many US Open qualifiers here as well as some bigger junior events. It looks wide open off the tee but you definitely want to place your ball carefully. Driver is not always the right play. I truly think this is the best course in the Frederick area, especially when it's playing firm and fast. The greens are usually some of the best is the area as well. The layout is fantastic. It has a wonderful set of par 4s, a tough set of par 3s, and all the par 5s are reachable depending on the wind direction. But danger does lurk everywhere. I enjoy that they grew more spots with long grass but others may not. Just remember that they are all lateral hazards with a local rule. Holes 3 and 12 are both extremely difficult pars but birdies are available as well. 3 especially might be the toughest par 4 in the region. There may be some forced carries off the tee, so pick the proper ones. Definitely a course I would say to play it a little shorter than your used to if you haven't been here. You may have a lot of wedges and short irons but sometimes the low shot is the right play. The range has been great, and they allow you to hit off grass on weekends. There are two putting greens, one flat and one has extreme slopes. If you haven't been here putt on the latter one as the greens will be similar. The chipping green is small but will help you work on your pitches and flop shots, two shots that are necessary out here. The new-ish bar area is wonderful, the food is delicious, and I love the camera on the 18th green. Staff has always been helpful and nice to me and my friends. And remember they will take off the cart fee if you walk. The front 9 is hilly but the back 9 is much easier.
