Danger lurks everywhere but the risk vs. reward, especially off the tee, is bigger here than any other track I have visited. All my visits have been in peak season and during events, so the course has usually been in good to great shape. There are a few exciting holes but nothing that I remember enough to look forward to during each visit. Small pro shop and a solid restaurant make up the good sized club house. The range is fine too. The workers I have encountered were all nice but no one did anything to stand out. Definitely worth a trip or two a year if you live in the DC area.

I played a round of golf with friends and I found the course to be above average and quite beautiful. Though the starter did warn us that a tournament of the plumbers union had played the previous day leaving the greens repleat with unrepaired ball marks and several golf carts battered. We repaired what we could within reason and were able to play without any Ill effect. The seventh tee had a menu, to call in your order, the menu included hotdogs and sausages, but they were out of sausages. As a hungry golfer, I must say that it was difficult to excuse this offense, but the hotdogs were pretty good. After we completed our round, we had lunch in the restaurant. I had the spicy salmon with avocado and my friends had a couple of versions of the chicken wings. We all enjoyed our meals. Service at every turn was pleasant and professional. It has held the Maryland Open and many US Open qualifiers here as well as some bigger junior events. It looks wide open off the tee but you definitely want to place your ball carefully. Driver is not always the right play. I truly think this is the best course in the Frederick area, especially when it's playing firm and fast. The greens are usually some of the best is the area as well. The layout is fantastic. It has a wonderful set of par 4s, a tough set of par 3s, and all the par 5s are reachable depending on the wind direction. But danger does lurk everywhere. I enjoy that they grew more spots with long grass but others may not. Just remember that they are all lateral hazards with a local rule. Holes 3 and 12 are both extremely difficult pars but birdies are available as well. 3 especially might be the toughest par 4 in the region. There may be some forced carries off the tee, so pick the proper ones. Definitely a course I would say to play it a little shorter than your used to if you haven't been here. You may have a lot of wedges and short irons but sometimes the low shot is the right play. The range has been great, and they allow you to hit off grass on weekends. There are two putting greens, one flat and one has extreme slopes. If you haven't been here putt on the latter one as the greens will be similar. The chipping green is small but will help you work on your pitches and flop shots, two shots that are necessary out here. The new-ish bar area is wonderful, the food is delicious, and I love the camera on the 18th green. Staff has always been helpful and nice to me and my friends. A Game-Changer Experience with Mike Dickson, PGA Pro…read more I decided to work with Mike Dickson during the winter months from November 2024 to April 2025 with a clear goal in mind: get tournament-ready for women's golf competitions. From day one, Mike took me back to the fundamentals--grip, stance, and swing. I quickly realized the importance of consistency every time I addressed the ball. As the weeks progressed, he incorporated swing analysis data and identified key areas for improvement. One major breakthrough was recognizing that I wasn't properly shifting my weight. Once I learned to feel that shift, we moved on to refining my swing plane, making it more shallow and efficient. Each session built upon the last, and with Mike's expert guidance, I was able to create new standards and lock them into my muscle memory. His approach is not only technically sound but also personalized and empowering. Thanks to Mike, my driving distance increased from an average of 158 yards to 185 yards. My irons now have a higher launch angle, and I'm consistently hitting my targets. He also introduced me to the fundamentals of AimPoint putting, and I'm now finishing more holes with pars and birdies. Mike Dickson is truly one of the best in the game--and this is exactly why he's one of the Top 100 Golf Instructors in the U.S. As long as he's teaching, I'll be taking lessons from him. I highly recommend working with Mike if you're serious about elevating your game--he's a total game-changer!

We played 18 holes of Footgolf for $26 (including two ball rentals) in about two hours, and really enjoyed it. If you've never played Footgolf, it's super fun and doesn't require any skill other than being able to kick a ball, and this is a great place to try it out. The Footgolf course is integrated into their nine-hole 'regular' golf course, which made for a nice walk. The golf course is a par-33 course with no par-fives, but it was pretty hilly with some tight fairways, so it isn't necessarily an 'easy' course either. The fairways and greens were well-maintained, especially in comparison to other public courses in the area. All told, I will definitely be back for more Footgolf and/or 'regular' golf.
