Life Time isn't horrible, but recently I have been noticing some very annoying things. 1. The basketball court was completely removed, which I was highly looking forward to using after getting my membership. Turns out it was replaced with a pickleball court. The thing that bothers me is the fact that half of the basketball court area was already a pickleball court, and they probably only replaced everything to make more money off pickleball lessons and stuff. 2. Things haven't been changing in a positive way. Like I said before, the basketball court was removed purely as an extension of the already existing pickleball court. Also, some of the gym equipment is pretty outdated and not getting fixed. Furthermore, the staff really don't care about members and just completely listen to the people who are ruining the experience for others, and getting people kicked out of a spot they were already in. The staff also tend to listen to the older person without understanding whats really going on. 3. Most of the Life Time membership is really just giving you access to more purchases instead of owning up to their slogan, "Healthier way of life." No, the personal trainer have no ethics. Rude, mock their clients are ridiculously too personal in their interest. And the group instructors are in ones face while they are doing their routines. They are not professional in their manner nor are they supportive. They are competitive. I quit going there. The women's locker room shower area is kept ridiculously cold which hits one like a cold sharp wind when coming out from the pool. If you have weak lungs, not hardy and fat do not shower there. Frustrated Longtime Member: Where Is the Support for Adult Aqua Fitness? I've been a LifeTime Reston member since the club opened in September 2013, and I'm incredibly disappointed with the recent cancellation of the evening WRTX aqua fitness classes. LifeTime's rebranding as an "athletic country club" is frankly ironic--it seems they're prioritizing families with young children while consistently sidelining adults who need low-impact, water-based exercise after work hours. The 7:30 PM WRTX class was one of the only options for working adults who can't attend classes during the day. The excuse of "low attendance" doesn't hold water when you consider the timing of their assessments--usually during summer breaks or holiday lulls--and the complete lack of promotion for the class. Search for water fitness on their app or website and you'll only find kid swim lessons. How is that equitable? The families have full access to the outdoor pool, especially during the summer. Why do they need the inside pool too? This isn't just about me--it's about the aging population, those recovering from injuries, and the working adults paying premium monthly fees who are left with fewer and fewer options. There are three pools at this facility. One is entirely for lap swimmers. Surely LifeTime can spare two lanes in the evening for a legitimate, health-promoting fitness class? I'm tired of fighting for something that seems like a no-brainer. "Broken TVs, Zero Accountability - See the Proof for Yourself" If you're thinking about joining this Lifetime Fitness location, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. This place charges premium membership fees but completely fails to deliver even basic maintenance -- and they clearly don't care. See the attached photos: These are just two of the many bike machines stuck in the same frozen screen for over two years. Messages like "Cleaning things up... prepare for a reboot in 1 second" have been on display nonstop. Spoiler alert: they never reboot. They never work. And they never get fixed. I've contacted management multiple times over this span -- through emails, in person, and through staff. Crickets. No replies, no updates, no accountability. Just complete silence. It's obvious what's going on: management is happily pocketing members' money while refusing to invest in even the most basic equipment upkeep. For a company that markets itself as a "luxury" fitness club, this is nothing short of disgraceful. At this point, the broken TVs are more consistent than the gym's customer service. I have been a member at Lifetime for the past 2 years. For the most part, I have really enjoyed my time here. My biggest complaint in the kids center. It's like pulling teeth to get my son to want to go here especially now that they decided to remove the kids play equipment in the back was removed. I reached out to management and was told it was removed to prevent injuries. It is quite frustrating because almost every other gym, including other Lifetimes in the area, have this equipment still. Kids just want to come and run around they don't want to sit at a table to do Legos after they have been at school all day. It's very disappointing and makes me want to find another gym. Another thing that really needs to be improved is the cafe. I frequently purchase things from here and they have gone bad or are made incorrectly. I will tell the staff and they just look at me and tell me to pick something else. For the amount of money people spend to come here I would expect some better options. I have been a loyal member at this Lifetime, and it was always a place of respite for me -- until recently. What happened has left me shaken and afraid to return. When I pulled into the parking lot, a man followed me because I went around him driving slow while he was on his phone. Instead of moving on, he blocked my car, and began yelling profanities and threats. Two good samaritans stepped in to help me and even walked me to the door, but the man continued harassing me . When I finally turned and told him "enough, leave me alone and I wondered if he was persistent because of my race," the staff saw only that moment -- not the harassment that led to it. The front desk manager vilified me based on me turning around at the front door while the man kept pushing through me. I went to the front desk for help, expecting support as it aligns with Lifetime policies. Instead, the concierge manager violated my rights and pampered the aggressor by doing the following: + Allowed the man who had harassed me to walk directly into the gym without even scanning his membership ID nor checking him in. + Refused me entry. + Labeled me both a "harasser" and an "aggressor." I was terrified and upset from what happened to me in the parking lot and instead of him listening to me, he decided to tone police me. The two good samaritans verified my story with team members yet the manager still kicked out for the 'way I was treating him'. I did nothing to this man, I asked him to make a report and that's when he said he was going to refuse me entry. My wife has been a dedicated member of this gym for 16 years, and what I've witnessed recently is nothing short of betrayal to loyal members and extreme greed as Life Time has been engaging in non-stop price gouging. Her membership dues have increased from $89 in 2019 to $149 in 2023, over 67% in less than 4 years. 2.5 of those 4 years were during the pandemic. Time and time again, Life Time chooses to take advantage of its long-standing members, displaying a complete lack of loyalty and integrity and increasing dues using meaningless buzzwords like "refreshed spaces and enhanced programming" as an excuse to maximize their margins. Moreover, they frame their messaging of due increases to loyal members as a display of "appreciation" because it's a whopping $40 below the rate of new members. Ridiculous. This kind of greed is simply unacceptable and anyone considering this gym should think twice before becoming a member. read more

I think the gym is easily accessible and very sanitized. However, there is no longer a mask mandate in the state and they are following CDC guidelines and so masks are not required to work out. I don't agree with it. The Lifetime Fitness facility is spacious, very well equipped with strength training and cardio machines and has a good selection of group X classes (I heart Body Combat!). The staff are courteous, helpful and professional, members are polite and respectful and, even when it's crowded (4 p.m. on during weekdays) I didn't feel hemmed in. If you want your money's worth AVOID RESTON LIFE TIME GYM. This gym mainly caters to boomer and geriatric people and karens. It is not the nice family gym it used to be. When I joined Life Time Reston it WAS great. Although the fees were expensive you received your moneys worth. Not anymore. Most of the glowing reviews you read are from new members. To see an accurate assessment, read reviews from people who have been at the gym for a few years. Why Reston Life time is going downhill: CONS: 1. The gym is close to $200 per month and is so expensive that the only people who can afford it are retirees. You rarely see young people at the gym anymore because it is too expensive for them. Average age must be 60 and I don't mean 60 and looking great, I mean 60 and the opposite. The only time you see young people are in the cycle classes. The other classes are 75% old people. As if the classes were not already full of boomers, they created a suite of classes specifically for boomers called 'Arora'. 2. Reston Life time used to offer a good mix of HIIT/ cardio and strength classes but nowadays they focus mainly on strength. They removed most HIIT classes because old people need strength training and this gym caters to the geriatric crowd now. Even the new Signature classes focus on strength training. They removed one basketball court to cater to the geriatric crowd by converting it to a pickleball court. See reason #1 PLEASE BRING BACK MORE CARDIO HIIT / INTERVAL CLASSES!! STOP OVERCROWDING THE SCHEDULE WITH 'SHRED' CLASSES! 3. The crowd used to be mixed demographics but now mainly aggessive and rude geriatric rich people who neglected their bodies for decades and are trying to compensate. The crowd is mainly white and many women are karens. There used to be more African-American or Hispanics but they don't come any more unfortunately. 4. Classes are overly crowded and you must register in their app that is literally crashes at the start of registration time. 5. Gym equipment is old and poorly maintained. The barbell rods are bent, the mats have tears in them. The plastic on the dumbbells are torn and the metal is coming out. You would think that with the nearly $200 monthly fee Life time would replace the equipment but no they do not. Where is the money going? I have no idea. 6. Gym is not clean. You can find hair on the studio floors. I do not blame the cleaning crew they try their best. Instead I blame the gym members who are dirty and don't care to clean after them. You would think the members learned the importance of hygiene after covid but no they did not. 7. The classes play the same music every year. I don't know if this is life time's fault or the lack of availability on streaming services 8. Gym instructors sometimes use the same moves week after week and it become monotonous and boring. 9. This gym has so many people who leave because you don't receive any bang for your buck. Nowadays it is true and the only reason I did not leave is because of the very few PROS: (see below) 10. The cycle classes have uncomfortable bicycle seats. You would think with the nearly $200 monthly fees the gym would buy comfortable seats but no, they dont. That is the reason I stopped going to cycle classes. Some cycles move or the handles disengage and they gym does not bother to repair them. Where is the money going? I have no idea. 11. Gym classes are concentrated in the morning in support of the geriatric and karen population. They don't have HIIT classes in the evening except for Tuesday. Newsflash: some of us work for a living. Evening classes would be nice in a variety, not just Shred or Zumba. 12. As if monthly fees are not expensive enough, they increase fees regularly. See reason # 1 13. Many gym instructors and employees leave the gym after a short time. When you see them all leaving it makes you wonder. 14. Life time is too busy imitating rather than innovating. Orange theory is growing so Lifetime created Ultrafit and GTX to steal their thunder. 15. No mirror in back of studios only mirrors in front of studios. You would think they could afford to add mirrors to the back of the studios. Again Where is the money going? I have no idea. 16. Before my experience of this weekend, I would have given Lifetime 5 stars. Unfortunately, I discovered a serious cleanliness issue that, until it is resolved, will keep me from going back. When I walked into the women's locker room, I saw an employee pulling out dirty towels and placing them into a bin that was clearly labeled "Clean Towels Only." I went to her and told her that she should not put dirty towels into that bin. Her response was to shrug and say, "We don't have enough bins." This is disgusting. The locker rooms are gross. The pool is dirty. The people are a half and half mix of decent families as well as a ton of gang-banger looking pimps and hos making it very uncomfortable for the half that are there with their kids and families. They wanted a ton of members. Well they got it. And it's made it over crowded and their staff cannot keep up with the cleaning and upkeep. I'm starting to hunt for a new club. This club has gone way downhill in the past two years, after a most excellent manager quit. Today I walked out of two classes. The first because the noise level was painful (this AFTER the instructor was asked, and turned down the volume, but only a little). Next, I left a cycling class because the handle bars on bike I was on disengaged every time I stood up. This after switching from my first choice bike because the seat lock was broken. My biggest issue blasting "music," in group classes but mainly from a group exercise area recently added to the general workout area. Sound levels near that area average 85 dB, and peak over 115 dB (I checked :-)). In the past a manager told me that blasting music is 'corporate policy,' which explains why many complaints (not just me) have not resulted in any reductions. Meanwhile, exercise areas are being converted to for-fee areas. A basketball court was converted to Pickleball courts. A stretching area was converted to "Dynamic Stretching", sold by trainers who's techniques would cause a Physical Therapist to turn away in horror. Finally, the men's locker room is often dirty, and always on weekends when the members appear to think the role of staff is to pick up their wet towels from floors and SHOWER STALLS. Most staff are, for the most part, are unfailingly friendly. The problem, IMO, is that the management have no house keeping training and ignore the slovenly condition of the facilities. Also, the maintenance and cleaning crews are understaffed. That's a Corporate proble. read more

Be warned- if you miss 3 classes that you register for within a 30 day period, this club punishes you by preventing you from scheduling classes for a week. And this is the real catch- you must cancel your class at least 2 hours beforehand in order not to be dinged. So you pay $180 a month and lose 1 weeks worth of classes because you didn't cancel 2 hours prior. I pay 4 times more for membership to this club, than what I would pay at any other gym around here and they ding me for 1 weeks classes because sometimes things come up, last minute, that prevent me from attending???? read more

This facility provides a country club-like experience at an incredible month to month rate. While I was disappointed I wasn't able to apply my friends referral code for a more affordable rate. The $149 monthly rate (+$80/monthly for my husband) equals out to about $115/month for the both of us. This includes access to a full yoga schedule with varieties of yin, heated, and vinyasa, cycle, HIIT, Zumba, and much more. The facility is beautiful. Granite countertops, wood paneling throughout, clean and private locker rooms, massive indoor pool with 12 lap lanes, massive hot tub, outdoor pool with slide and outdoor cafe (literally country club cabana vibes) A spa, a cafe with delicious food and a ton of grab and go options, rock climbing, pickle ball, and obviously a huge area of equipment, free weights, cardio equipment, child care, children's activities, friendly staff. I have been a member at this gym since 2015, and while back then its maintenance quality and overall upkeep merited its exorbitant fees, the quality of this facility has been declining at an alarming rate. First of all, the crowd level is insane, especially during the summer season. With the increase of members, the cleanliness of the changing room, especially the family changing/shower room is nonexistent. The stalls are gross, often plastered with wet hair, and left behind used towels. Speaking of the family rooms, their shower heads were initially one of the best, with excellent water pressure. This was great since a lot of the children in swim team and swim lessons need to be showered, and the water pressure alone made the low number of stalls not seem like a big deal. In 2023, all shower heads were changed with ones that have the water pressure of a trickle. This is so frustrating, as wait times for swimmers to clear the family shower rooms are getting longer and longer. When I approached management to address this issue (I asked if this was done as a way to save on water bill???) he said that someone had stolen every single shower head in the family room. He proceeded to tell me that these shower heads were specifically made for Lifetime and that they could not get more. This may be a small detail, but it's details like a properly functioning shower that justify their increasing fees. Overall, corporate needs to step up and clean up this facility, both literally and figuratively! read more

I have been coming to lifetime for about a decade, i really do love this gym. I originally signed up at the reston onyx location and have bounced back and forth between loudoun and reston location. I have moved back to reston and find myself driving back to loudoun due to many reasons. 1) The reston location is subpar compared to loudoun, mind you reston is the more expensive of the two. Paying 140 a month you could at least mirror all the walls in the studio, this actually makes a huge difference while working out. 2) staff is rude in reston, the man in studio office upstairs yelled at me for using the weights from the studio next door, as if I'm a child and I won't put them back. While I'm writing this I watched another staff just rush me to the cafe line to cut in-front of me .... I am under impressed returning to reston. read more

I'm very disappointed in this gym and their procedures during this time where we should be using caution. I was at the gym today I have been going now for about 3 weeks. During these three weeks I have been taking my precautions and wearing a FACE MASK and gloves and NOBODY around me is WEARING a MASK. Tonight there were 3 people out of about 40 people wearing a MASK. This is really ALARMING and shows you just don't care about your clientele and your not obeying the rules of VIrginia or just don't care. I see the employees wearing masks walking around not caring or telling the people working out to put one on. The funny thing is when I walk in the people at the front tell you to wear one and if you don't have they provide you with one. So where is this going wrong? Why aren't the employees enforcing this rule?? This is very reckless and I'm very upset and don't feel safe. R Update as of last night: My husband went last night and did NOW see that MASKS are enforced and there is now a machine you have to go through for temperature reading. Has some nice amenities that other gyms don't, but they cater too much to families, which has resulted in locker rooms, steam rooms, sauna being more dirty than they should. Most people don't wipe down the equipment (but you'll see that at any gym). People will make up multiple machines at once doing their sets and leave their cushion pads everywhere and no one enforces it. Sent the Asst. Sales Manager - J Z, an email saying I'd like to cancel and will be switching to a nicer gym. Didn't try to keep my business and just said to go to the front desk to give 30 days notice. As far as cleanliness, just said she would let operations know, but I've seen that in other comments from people here... Equinox will now be getting my business. While the spa gets 5 stars for how they treat my wife, the rest of the facility (locker room, equipment, sauna) is staffed by employees who totally miss the mark. There is no attention to cleanliness or enforcing the most basic of rules that would ensure a better experience for the majority of customers. The issue of cleanliness has been touched upon by plenty of reviewers. Stained stall dividers in the bathroom, a lingering smell throughout the locker rooms, and cleaning staff who sit on their phones while hiding are pathetic results when I pay over $200 per month. A constant pool of liquid beneath the urinals would seem like a quick fix- but it is never addressed. Just as frustrating are the personal trainers who never enforce rules. Particular guests will hog multiple pieces of equipment, pool them in a corner, and run supersets for over half an hour and despite clearly posted rules are allowed to take these items. Curls on the squat racks, crunches on the bench presses, five sets of dumbbells hoarded in a corner and no repercussions- mindbogglingly, the trainers just let people do whatever they want. Guests here will literally lay out their clothes in the sauna to dry. Nobody stops them. This place is a zoo. read more

I've been going here for about two months now and I've enjoyed my experience so far. Of all the gyms I've been a member of, Life Time ranks as the best. The monthly membership rate is on the higher end, but I was fortunate enough to have my company subsidize it. Definitely feel like I'm getting my money's worth. The initial membership included a free onboarding/training session and $100 Life Time Bucks for services, which I used towards a training session. The training sessions were great. I worked with David, who gave me tips and showed me exercises to build my strength. Can't speak for the other trainers, but they all seem professional. The general staff is also very friendly and always open to assist. The facility is huge! It is stacked with cardio equipment, weights, machines, pools, basketball courts, rock climbing wall, salon, classes and more. Even at its busiest time, it is hardly packed. I have never had to wait to use any equipment. The locker room is well-kept and fully stocked with towels and toiletries. The members here tend to be an older, more mature crowd, so there isn't much rowdiness like other gyms. It's also very family-friendly. Parents bring their kids to workout, or drop them off at the onsite daycare or camp. I don't have kids yet, but this service would definitely be something I look for in the future. I would like to give the gym 5/5, but the cafe doesn't cut it. I've ordered from here a couple of times and the food and smoothies seem overpriced for what you get. The first time I went here, I ordered a $10 omelette meal, which was extremely underwhelming. The omelette was lacking in flavor and size, bread was stale, and fruit was nearly spoiled. Honestly, a waste of money. Oh, and the service was very slow. Staff seemed disorganized. Aside from this, the gym has been enjoyable. read more

If they had negative stars, I'd choose that. But alas, I must put 1. Since joining the gym, I noticed as well as complained about the severe neglect to cleanliness and detail. I'm not talking about "picking up", I'm talking about a real issue that is borderline a public health issue. I came from Crunch Fitness (Reston and a Tysons). Never once did I need to complain about cleanliness there and I paid 1/3 price. I saw cleaning staff there every visit at Crunch for three years at all hours. I've never once seen a cleaning person or a mop at LT Reston since I joined.  Now I pay $130+ per month for a gym that has a lot more amenities than Crunch where they rely on their personal trainers to clean the equipment? Would you hire a skilled electrician to clean your house? No.... so why use highly trained personal trainers to clean a gym? Isn't that what the $130+ fee should cover ?? Those amenities got me excited about maybe being able to swim, hot tub etc, but given the severe lack of cleanliness, I didn't use any of the other amenities like the pool in fear for my own health. The men's locker room is almost unbearable at times. No picture would ever do that scent justice. Closing it down for a day long deep Clean is the only solution plus ongoing hourly maintenance thereafter. Because of the locker room situation, I have to get off the train from a long commute from DC at Reston Wiehle metro to drive home by the town center and change and then drive back to the gym in lieu of the easier option of just coming straight from the train station and using the locker room. The bathrooms were another issue. Total neglect. I've taken pictures of the bathrooms and complained as well. I've also complained about the awful smell radiating from the carpet , especially around the main entrance area and personal training desk.  It's really disgusting. Earlier this week I contacted Crunch Reston about coming back there given the current conditions at Life Time.  I've hesitated to leaving this review because I really like my 5 star personal Trainer, Nick Lamanna, but the good results I'm getting from working with him can't outweigh the poor management of your facility, especially the price I'm paying and lack of use of the amenities. Needless to say I escalated this to the gym management. They pretty much told me that most of the items on my list couldn't be taken care of until the 2020 budget year, so I left the gym all together. The gave me some $ back, but not near enough given all the days I didn't show up due to the funk. I forwarded this to the company senior management and never received a response. That speaks volumes on how they do not value their member feedback or their members. Honestly, if you are serious about joining this gym. Please shop around for your own health and family's health and well being. If you have the slightest bit of OCD or germophobia, run far far away from here. Or at least try a 2 week pass to see for yourself before signing up. The carpet funk will turn you off if nothing else. Very concerned. read more

I am a current life time Onyx member and have had excellent experiences at both the Fairfax and Centreville locations and highly recommend these gyms! Sadly though, I received the worst possible customer service experience at the Reston location. I was unaware that the Onyx membership did not include access to the Reston location but was able to successfully enter the gym and pool nearly 10 times over the summer. I asked numerous times about the membership but was consistently allowed to enter. I was stopped at the front desk recently and told I did not have the appropriate membership. I was "helped" by Jordan who provided the worst possible service. During my time with Jordan he accused me of being a liar, and sneaking past the front desk to get in. Jordan even went as far as to suggest that the individual who helped us choose our membership lied to us and suggested that we belonged to the "cheapest" membership level in the area. After all this I was told I could either leave, upgrade or pay the $35 extra dollars for a day pass. I love the Reston facilities and would have been open to upgrading but after being talked down to in such an unacceptable manner by a member of their staff I can not stress enough that everyone should avoid paying extra for this location! This was one of the most unacceptable customer service experiences of my life and I am shocked that the management of this luxury fitness establishment allow their staff to speak this way to members. read more

My friend recommended me to go to lifetime after I took him to equinox. He said lifetime is better and bigger and so he gave me a 7 day guest pass. I went there with my dad on Sunday (Father's Day) and one sales rep said that I must pay $30 per person because there is a weekend policy that doesn't allow guest to enter. Thou on the pass it doesn't mention anything about a summer policy it just said 7 day guest pass from 8 am to 9 pm. The person explaining to me was, Tyler Haggerson a sales representative. He said Lifetime had a new policy that doesn't allow guest to enter on the weekend with the guest pass and I told him that if this is the case you should stop giving out invalid passes without the new policy put in place. And that he needs to honor the pass because it doesn't mention anything about summer policy. He said no. I drove from McLean to reston and will not be returning. I threw away my guest pass. Hope it was worth being cheap as my business will stay with equinox! read more
