Let me start my review by saying if anyone gives this place anything less than 5 stars, they must be having their ice cream, gelato, coffee, pastries somewhere else. Walked in yesterday around 3:50 pm and got a very nice greeting from a sweet, pleasant lady with a genuine smile by the name of Natalia. Right away she asked me if I wanted to try few of their samples. I already had in mind what I was about to get, but she still offered me to sample it so I did. I got a medium size/cup of their Mascorpone gelato and grabbed a seat in the shop. She gave me a generous scoop and was very yummy, creamy, delicious & REFRESHING!! $8.23 with tax. Since my last review, the only reason that I gave a 4 star rating was because of their tables not being clean. Everything was up to par. Enjoyed my Gelato,the nice Classic Rock music and headed out. Every 'Joe Schmoe' can "go out for ice cream"; but do you want to up the ante and show off sophistication? Would you prefer to feel as though you are carefree in Italy and about to hop on a vespa? Then opt for gelato. Somehow, grabbing gelato versus ice cream feels classy and elegant. Although gelato offerings in Los Angeles aren't as widespread as ice cream; there are plenty of options awaiting to make us all feel European (I AM European so I always do but I digress). San Fernando Valley's most recent addition to the world of gelato is Freddo - located not far from the Ventura/ Laurel Canyon intersection in Studio City. Yes, that means this is prime real estate and terrible parking. Is Freddo worth the hassle? Freddo has been in the gelato business for 50 years opening their first shop in Argentina before expanding worldwide focusing on fresh, local ingredients and flavors; making each shop unique to the surrounding cultures. Freddo has arrived in Southern California ready to bring their Italian gelato roots to the City of Angels. Sounds great, right? Well, yes - on paper but this Studio City location fell short. The Studio City location of Freddo has been on the receiving end of viral publicity and influencer love as of late often appearing in social media videos. Coupled with Freddo's worldwide market holding; I had very high hopes for Freddo's gelato. I expected some orgasmic gelato! A mind-blowing experience! My boyfriend and I ventured into Freddo to find a rather large gelateria in comparison to other gelato/ice cream shops with an order counter/gelato/pastry case, a front window-seating counter complete with plants and plenty of tables and seating within; while murals graced the walls adding splashes of color. What I found odd, was the disheveled mess Freddo appeared - why didn't anyone tidy the dining area? Granted, there was only one associate in the front but only two other customers ahead of us. Alas, an untidy gelato shop isn't the clincher to a bad time but this was just the beginning. My boyfriend and I have never visited Freddo and the associate was NOT welcoming, didn't smile, was basically silent and stood there like a statue until we asked for some samples on our own. Let's try "selling the business" and having good customer service, shall we buddy? I am not a gelato professional consumer by any means but I was instantly deterred by the visual appearance of the gelato which just looked 'off'. Perhaps, I am just spoiled by Bacio di Latte which is a hop, skip and jump from Freddo and is absolutely divine. I wasn't overwhelemed by the flavor options at Freddo although I tried Zabaglione which is inspired by the Marsala wine Italian dessert and was interesting with the wine notes coming through the gelato. The Mascarpone (mascarpone with raspberry sauce) was also decent but not overly unique. I decided against purchasing my own gelato and instead to share with my boyfriend with him choosing a double cup ($7.50) of Stracciatella (sweet cream with semi-sweet chocolate chunks) and blackberry sorbet (note: this was to test it against Bacio di Latte's raspberry sorbet which is one of the best sorbets on the planet). The prices at Freddo were another strike with the single cup ($6.25), double ($7.50) and triple ($9.80) being smaller in size than their competitors but about a dollar higher, respectively. This is fine if the gelato is worth it - but it isn't. I'm sorry but Freddo's gelato was mediocre at best. I've had better grocery store pints. The Stracciatella was overly simplified and bland and the blackberry sorbet (which was not strained of seeds) was just bad. I can't even eloquently phrase why - it just is. There isn't much more to be said about Freddo. Freddo is, bluntly, not good and I don't understand how they claim worldwide gelato domination. A messy shop, poor customer service, subpar gelato flavors/textures and overpriced... why is this place viral? Can someone answer me? Anyone?! There is nothing good here and especially when Freddo is overshadowed by Bacio di Latte almost a block away. My boyfriend and I will not be back despite wanting to feel classy consuming gelato. I'll admit, I have a bit of an obsession with gelato. I came to Freddo's about a month ago with my brother, and the gelato was phenomenal!!! They had such great flavors. The outdoor seating was a really cool surprise. It's super cute with lights in the trees, very spacious, and you wouldn't even know there's a big back area unless you walked through. They even had speakers set up, which made me wonder if they play the music on certain days or nights. I definitely want to come back here. I tried a couple of weeks ago and they were closed, but maybe I just caught them at the wrong time. Either way, I'm already looking forward to my next visit. read more

My friends and I wanted to meet up in Studio City and tossed around cafes but since it's Summer and hot outside the idea of going to get ice cream was suggested. Wow, FREDDO ice cream shop in Studio City is amazing! Easy to find since it's on Ventura boulevard near Radford avenue. Park at a meter or walk to this great store. Freddy's interior is bright, welcoming and fun music is played on the speakers. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The assortment of ice cream is vast and their menu extends to food as well. There's indoor seating and an elegant outdoor patio in the back. I like this venue a lot and will have to check out their Koreatown location! read more

This is a charming little shop with a wide variety of gelato flavors and desserts to choose from. They let us sample a few before we landed on a small cup of pistachio and strawberry cream. The gelato is denser and richer in texture than other spots I've tried--definitely more indulgent. It's not cheap, but the portions are a shareable size. Parking can be tricky since it's nestled in the heart of Studio City's dining area. We lucked out with a street spot right out front, but we noticed a sign next door that offers the first 15 minutes free in the adjacent lot. read more

After tasting a few flavors, We got a split of 2 flavors. the banana split and the dulce la leche granizado. Wow. Really yummy. The servers were so patient as we were clearly taking a long time to decide. The pistachio was also very good. The prices were like all the other places. $6.50, 7.50 and 9.50. You can spot it in 2 or 3 flavors. The indoors is cute. Had some board games to keep you occupied. They look like they have a nice back patio too. We sat outside where the people watching was fun. Recently relocated to Studio City and literally this place is around the corner from my place. It has a feel good vibe when you come in, whether it's the splash of bright colors , or the gelato, pastrries, empanadas or coffee brewing, , you decide. I came in about 5 and the place started getting busy. They have seating inside and an inviting patio outside . I ordered the ham and cheese empanada and the chicken empanada. On a "clousy" and drizzling 61°F Christmas Eve, we drove into Studio City to look for Freddo gelateria. This Argentinean gelateria and bakery opened on September 27, 2024, shortly after our recent early September trip to Los Angeles. I convinced my brother-in-law to drive down Ventura Boulevard after noticing this gelateria's proximity to the Studio City Plaza after having a late breakfast. It didn't take much convincing since we're "dessert hounds," and the cooler temperature made us want frozen treats. Upon approaching the gelateria shortly after 12 noon, we noticenoon, we noticed two young men waving "free parking" signs for Freddo at Kiwami by Katsu-Ya, and we were about to turn when we spotted an open metered space directly in front of Freddo. While doing the obligatory photography, Lucila warmly and energetically greeted our foursome from behind the counter. My brothers-in-law weren't familiar with this Argentinean gelateria and bakery, so Lucila offered them taste samples. On the other hand, I narrowed down my choices to share with my husband right away (Coco y dulce de leche or Philippin Coconut, Pistachio, and Choco Freddo). My brothers-in-law chose cups of Banana Split and Dulce de Leche, Pistachio, and Mascarpone gelato. We enjoyed the bright and clean gelateria, outstanding service, and affordable frozen treats. Lucila's engaging and friendly personality made us feel welcomed and more happy. We also noticed their pretty outdoor patio with heat lamps, so we'd consider returning during the non-rainy days of Fall or Winter to enjoy Freddo's gelatos. read more

After dinner at a nearby restaurant my husband and I came here for dessert. We love gelato and this place looked promising. It's been open for about nine months now. Our first time here and pretty sure not the last. Friendly welcome, as soon as we walked in we were greeted and a nice gentleman helped us. We tasted a few flavors and I picked the mint chocolate and the hazelnut chocolate. I love mint chocolate but theirs was a bit strong for me, the mint had an overpowering taste.. The hazelnut chocolate was perfect. It tasted amazing. My husband also got that and enjoyed it much. This place has a great ambiance with very cute decor and lots of indoor and out door seating. My husband and I just discovered this place on a drive through studio city. The gelato was so delicious that we came back the following day! Staff: Natalia is warm and welcoming. Joy and light exude from her. She's incredibly kind. She alone will make you want to return time and time again. Lulu was super sweet and helpful, letting us sample lots of the gelatos. She shared the history of the shop and its wonderful cross cultural connections of Argentinian and Italian roots. So cool. Ambience: The restaurant decor is fun and inviting. There's a lovely patio area too. The colors are bright and happy. It's a good place to bring a friend or a laptop. Food: As someone who lived in Italy, I'm always comparing the gelato I have in the states to my Italian gelato experience. Freddo has deliciously blended flavors. Definitely sample everything to find your favorite. Mine is the cookies n cream blended with the coconut. The medialuna ham and cheese sandwich was yummy too. I've been here a couple times & they switch up the flavors, so if you see 'Dulce de Leche Tentación' make sure you order that!!!! It's dulce de leche ice cream with swirls of actual dulce de leche inside. BOMB! I also ordered a cafe con leche & medialuna (latte & croissant), which were also great. They have a lot of seating inside & there's also a cute patio in the back with plenty of seating as well. Both times I was there I saw people working on their laptops. Freddo is fantastic on a slightly warm evening. Parking is all based on luck on a Friday at 9PM with multiple bars in the area. The service was great. I tried 3 flavors, the mascarpone, which was off putting, only because I did not recognize the flavors. Amarena, a better version of a cherry Garcia. And strawberry was in between creamy, over sorbety. I just ended up getting 2 flavors I kind of knew I'd love even without trying it. Coconut Dulce de Leche and Banana Split. Both rich in flavor and honestly, the best choice going in blind. The interior is modern and well lit. Meanwhile the back outdoor patio is dim and romantic in the night. The service was great. I came in with a group of eight, and our total was close to $80, which is definitely on the higher end. When checking out, I used their frequent buyer card, only to be told that no matter how many items you purchase, you only get one stamp. I politely asked why, and instead of a clear explanation, I got a rude response: "I just follow the rules," which made me feel like I had done something wrong. For a place in such a competitive market, this felt like a missed opportunity over something small. Gelato is delicious but the service falls short. Company even deletes negative comments/ customer feedback on their instagram profile and management does not respond to emails. I went with my family and ordered 6 separate orders of gelato. We were given ONE stamp for 6 gelatos on our customer frequent buyer card. When I inquired, I was told by the cashier that you get one stamp regardless of how many are purchased in a single transaction. So despite spending $60 in ice cream we only received one stamp, the same as ordering one serving. Truly makes zero sense. Defies logic and doesn't give any incentive to return. There are plenty of other delicious gelato and ice cream spots to try in studio city! No need to give money to a business that doesn't value customer loyalty or feedback. Freddo is a Argentinian dessert spot that specialized in gelato and a ton of tasty baked goods. I was SO excited to see that they are popping up in the US let alone down the street from me. The gelatos are offered in your traditional flavors but there's plenty of unique and tasty flavors. I recommend having a few samples before committing to a heaping portion. My favorite is the dulce de leche. It's SO decadent and packed with silkiness you probably haven't experienced before. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting. Very friendly for dates, family night out for dessert or whatever really. There is plenty of seating inside and its a bit spacious. They certainly WANT YOU to hangout here. They even supply a few board games that you can play. Service was outstanding. There was a very kind woman who was passionate about the trade and gave out samples and explained a lot of the origins of the flavors. Basically a ice cream & gelato sommelier. Second time they charged incorrectly (over charged). This time they were out of the kids paint scoop which includes 2 toppings so we got a small scoop instead and a side of the topping. They charged for the paint and scoop anyway which is more than the small scoop plus extra for the toppings which if you're going to charge for something we didn't get don't also charge for something extra that is already included in the paint and scoop. Not about the money as it's a small difference but the ethics of it as this was the second time, the first time they charged twice for the same item and I'm starting to wonder they sneak in these charges to others too, poor business ethics. read more

I have went into Freddo's ice cream shop twice and Andre is super sweet, kind, patient and helpful. He has a good positive attitude with great customer service. He's always asking me how is my day going. He shared with me about their matcha drink is really good (so next time I'll have try it). He also provided me a Freddo's stamp card--when I purchase so many ice creams I'll get a free one. The gelato is sooo good! I love their flavors and that I can sample as many to find the one I want to purchase. I've been going to another popular icecream shop but, Freddo's is where I'll be going now. As noted previously, the woman working there (not sure if she is an owner) was so lovely. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more things (like the quiche and the coconut alfajor.) First time coming to Freddo tonight and it definitely won't be my last! I ordered a large cup with a scoop of French Vanilla, Dulce de Leche with Oreo, and, on Lucila's recommendation, a scoop of the Swiss Chocolate. Let me tell you, it was AMAZING! My favorites were the Dulce de Leche with Oreo and the Swiss Chocolate--creamy, rich, and full of flavor. My friend went with Pistachio, Dark Chocolate, and Key Lime, and his top pick was the Pistachio. The portions were generous, and I loved that they let us sample flavors before deciding. It made the whole experience fun and relaxed. I will definitely be coming back and highly recommend this spot to any gelato lover! Five stars all the way! Lastly shout out to Lucila! I recently had a small dinner party at my house with two friends who are Argentinian. I tried to keep the theme, with filet mignon as the star dish mushrooms and vegetables confit and my own chimichurri sauce. As a surprise they brought me a large styrofoam container of this gelato. They said it was a gelato that is well known and well appreciated in Argentina. Well I can't tell you how good it was, they opted for two flavors the dulce de leche and mascarpone and berries. OMG it's creamy, melt in your mouth feel will blow you away, it's truly an authentic Italian gelato.
