We started our unplanned day in Camarillo Old Town with lunch at Freda's Pizza. Yelp reviews said it gets busy during the weekends, so we arrived right when they opened. There were a couple people already waiting in line when we arrived, but no one at the register. After a few more minutes the people ahead of us got tired of waiting and left. We had already had our minds set on a few menu items to try so we waited. The team member who took our order was very nice but a bit slow at the register. We weren't in a rush, so it didn't really bother us. The husband was quite hungry, so we ended up over-ordering -- House Chips & Cheese, Potato Bacon Pizza, Short-Rib Melt and Pastrami. It all came our pretty fast and it was ALOT (lol)! The House Chips were generous, fresh and tasty. The Potato Bacon pizza was delicious! The sandwiches, although flavorful, were kinda skimpy. We felt that we were biting into mostly bread. The fries were hot and super crispy. Service was great overall. There's a flat screen TV in the middle of the dining room that was showing college football. I liked that takeout boxes for leftovers were easily accessible to everyone. There's ample seating inside and several picnic tables at the shared area outside. The layout is nice with three connected establishments -- Freda's, Rori's and Topa Topa. We have been here many times over the years. Pizza is artisanal and the price reflects that. It is good pizza though. Crust is soft yet has a crunch. They have unique combinations. Salads are big and they have a variety. Service is hit or miss to be honest. I've gone and it's been spot on, quick, and attentive. I've also gone and it's take 45 minutes for one pizza to be made. I think they have gone through new employees over the years and when it's new employees working the service can be slow. I know one time I was in there and the kid behind the register was going snails pace...unfortunately this was on the local college's graduation day so the place was packed. I should have known better. Like any place, try to go during non-peak hours. Easier said than done with work and such. We just went on a Friday at opening (12pm) and the service was fantastic. We like to sit outside in the covered patio. Parking is awful as the Blvd is always busy. Just have to pray and try to time it out nicely. I do appreciate that Freda's is next to and in same building as Rori's ice cream and Topa Topa Brewing. Pizza, ice cream, and beer/hard seltzer/ciders. I really want to love this place, I keep coming back despite having a couple bad experiences. It's just so conveniently located right off the 101 in old town Camarillo, they have car-shows in old town, live music, and my kid likes the burnt pizza for some odd reason. But man, is the service ridiculously slow! 40 minutes to get a double smash burger on a Wednesday when it wasn't even that busy! The girl that brought it out even said "sorry about the wait" in a voice that indicated she says that a million times per day. All our food came out at different times, like drastically different times. My kid got his pizza by the slice pretty quickly which I'm happy about since he takes a while to eat. Then 20 minutes later, 30 minutes after we ordered, my wife got her single Wagyu beef smash-burger with truffle fries for only $2 more. Ok, now I eagerly awaited mine. In the interim I ordered another slice for my kid which again came out pretty quickly and crispy like he likes it. Finally 40 minutes after I had ordered I finally got my double smashburger and chips, complete with an unapologetic apology. It was burnt, too burnt for my tastes, but my wife's was cooked better and I got to finish hers. The taller blonde lady who appears to be the manager seems to be the hardest worker in the place, running around while the staff take their sweet time doing any and everything. It literally feels like I'm at the DMV in Zootopia with the sloths working behind the counter. This isn't the first time this has happened to me here, and it wasn't just my food that took forever. In fact as I was ordering, another patron walked up to the counter asking about their food saying it had been a while. Straight up, they need to hire better staff, like some that work with some sense of urgency and better work ethic. Even when I went to order a second slice of pizza for my kid, I sat there staring at 3 employees right in front of me, ignoring me while they talked about an achilles tear one of them had. After they finished their conversation, the cashier that had looked at me and ignored me a couple times during that conversation as I sat there at the register smiling, finally acknowledged me so that I could order. Then she turns the screen over toward me to select the tip, uh no, the tip I gave earlier was already too much for the service received as $0 would've been more appropriate. read more

Update: Cancelled my preorder delivery at the last minute and didn't even have the decency to let us know. Then I call to ask what happened and if we could still get it and they said yes... Never showed up so I called again and they tried blaming me for their mistake. Last day or not, this is not the way to treat your patrons. Today was my first time eating at Fredas! The food was delicious. I was sad to hear they were closing today. I had a nice experience.

Excellent layout..connected to an ice cream parlor, and beer garden. Great outdoor seating in a wonderful part of Camarillo. Menu includes pizzas, burgers, salads, fries...wrapped in a wonderful assortment of flavors and delightful options. Their employee Christian took our order immediately and was very patient and efficiently accommodated our requests for adding basil and cooking it well done. While waiting we were able to explore the menus of the ice cream vendor and beer promoter as there are no walls separating each business. Wonderful idea that accommodates groups with more options when visiting the establishment. After about 10 minutes Christian came out to inform us they had run out of mushrooms...then asked if we'd like to try their highly requested potato and bacon...we welcomed the possibility. He then very kindly brought us out delicious restaurant made potato chips and cheese dip, on the house, since he felt we had waited so long for our pizza. He immediately struck me as a very kindly brought and considerate young man...something that seems rare these days...especially when viewing society as a senior citizen. I highly recommend the quality of the pizza and enjoyed the service provided as well. read more

I'm trying very hard to stay loyal to this place. The good thing is that the quality is still good. The service, unfortunately, is not. The pan pizza is really good but they are out of the crust too often. Ordering on-line doesn't work on a consistent basis. Worst of all, they are understaffed! It appears that they are making efforts to remedy this by having a self-order screen like Taco Bell. $30 bucks for a 'za and an order can't be placed without a hassle?? Oh well! I had a girls night out and we were so excited to try Freda's. From the moment we reached the counter, Fidel was the absolute best !! He was so friendly and happy to assist . We were not sure on what pizza to get so we got The Diablo and Spinaci in one Pizza . I believe we got the 12 inch . OMG .. so good! We were hungry for more. Head on down to Freda's Pizza in downtown Camarillo. This location is inside an indoor market type place with an ice cream parlor and brewery. This particular day we didn't go in with pizza in our kind.we went in for the sandwiches and they didn't disappoint. We tried the Cubano and the short rib melt. Both were packed with so much flavor. The short rib was almost melt in your mouth tender. The cubano was excellent as well. The house made chips were fried and seasoned very well. We even took some to go. I happen to visit Freda's last night and was really disappointed with the experience. There was dog poop smeared on the sidewalk outside, and multiple people were stepping in it. I let an employee know about it I later found out her name was Bree from another customer, and instead of addressing the issue, she rolled her eyes, made an annoyed sound, and said, "Go ask Topa, I'm not dealing with that." That response alone was unprofessional, but it didn't stop there. When she brought our pizza to the table, she didn't say a single word or ask if we needed anything. The lack of basic customer service and concern for cleanliness was shocking. Definitely not the kind of experience I expect when dining out. read more

We came to enjoy some beers at Topa Topa and brought over a pizza from a place across the street, not realizing it wasn't allowed. There were no signs saying outside food wasn't permitted, and since the indoor space is shared between the brewery and the pizza place--but they're two separate businesses--we didn't think it would be an issue, especially since we were sitting outside on the patio. Unfortunately, the owner of the pizza place came over and was extremely rude about it, telling us we couldn't have outside pizza--even though we weren't sitting in her restaurant or taking up her tables. She also questioned where we got our beers from, even though we clearly had just gotten them from Topa Topa. The whole interaction was unnecessarily hostile and made the experience pretty uncomfortable. We totally understand if there are rules, but the lack of signage and the aggressive tone were really off-putting. A little kindness and clarity would have gone a long way. read more

Disappointed by Frieda's Treatment at The Mark - What Changed? On 3/23 at 2 PM in Camarillo, we brought food from across the street and sat in the shared patio area at The Mark--something we've done many times before. We had a group of over eight people, including kids tired and hungry from sports, and we were planning to buy ice cream for them while the adults grabbed drinks from Topa, just as we always do. Before we could even sit down, a waiter from Frieda's abruptly told us that outside food wasn't allowed and walked away. No discussion. No opportunity to explain that we were also planning to support multiple businesses in the space. What's frustrating is that we've consistently chosen to dine at Frieda's in the past--our kids love their pizza. We've also confirmed with the other businesses at The Mark that this shared space has never had an issue with outside food before. There were no posted signs, no prior warnings, and no clear reason why this time was different. What's up with that, guys? Why were we treated this way without explanation? read more

I've given this place multiple chances, hoping each time for a better experience because the food itself is decent. I really enjoy the pizza, burgers, and salads -- especially the pizza, which consistently comes out in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the rest of the menu. On several visits, we've ordered just two items (usually a burger, sandwich, or salad), and every time, it's taken over 30 minutes to get our food. That kind of delay is hard to justify. The final straw was a recent pickup order: the estimate was 20 minutes, and I arrived a few minutes after that. Not only had they not started preparing my order, but I also waited another 15 minutes -- only to receive an incorrectly made salad. I've tried to be patient, but the constant delays and lack of attention to orders make it hard to return. This last experience was it for me. read more

Freda's is great I've been to both locations but rating the Camarillo one after doing a pickup order. It was fairly busy and you can tell the team was in a peak rush of orders but someone still took a moment to grab my order for pick up even though they had their hands full doing other tasks fairly quickly. This time I ordered The Spinaci pizza which was delightful and I really enjoyed how all the flavors of roasted garlic and onion paired well with the cheese and spinach. I'm not sure where they source their cheese from but even though I'm lactose intolerant for some reason this pizza didn't upset my stomach, so kudos to that. I look forward to revisiting and eating there since it's in the same location as Topa Topa and Rori's creamery you will have quite a crowd, especially on a Friday night to be prepared for that. Taste - the Italian style pizza has a fresh tasting tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella with basil. The sauce is outstanding- took one bite and I was blown away!!! Wish the basil was dressed on the pizza after baking but the sauce steals the show!! The pepperoni with fennel sausage was also delicious but I kept going back for more of the Italian! The crust is crispy with the right amount of chew but the center of the slice does get limp, just the nature of the beast. Freda's Pizza is beyond delicious. I might even say some of the best pizza in the 805. I can't believe I am just trying this spot! My friends and I were super wowed by the flavors and quick service. Happy to report that Service was good and thankfully they appear to have a well stocked kitchen because they had a lot of people prepping and cooking the pizzas. I stepped up to the counter and within 30 seconds someone stepped up to take my order. Both of the young men that helped me at the counter were friendly and personable. Also was impressed that they frequently send people around to bus the tables to clear up pizza plates and such. Good service. The pricing is a tad high in my opinion but you get what you pay for. For that reason I want to acknowledge that $25+ (after tax/tip) can be a little steep for a pizza (depending what kind you get) but when the pizza is delicious and made to order, I really can't complain, only note of it for those who get easily worked up on pricing. Im a sucker for if it tastes good I'll likely go over my budget lol. Back to the pizza, we had the fennel sausage (hold the peppers) NY style pizza and the brick pizza the Speck and Arugula. Both pizzas were so freaking tasty we were in heaven. Super fresh and right out of the oven. Perfectly cheesy and they don't skimp on the toppings. The fennel sausage pizza was our # 1 favorite though. They know how to make a real NY style pizza!! Finally! Im addicted. The speck arugula was also a nice change from the traditional pizzas and the flavors were fantastic. Slightly salty (in a good way) and the cold lightly dressed arugula made this pizza memorable. My friend and I were so impressed with the pizzas here we will happily be back soon and telling everyone about it. Thank you Freda's for coming to Camarillo. Would be 5 stars but I'll put the issue at the bottom of review. The various types of french fries are amazing. Chips and cheese are sometimes perfect and sometimes too fried but cheese is good. sometimes the pizza is cooked to perfection and sometimes it's too floppy. The food is good, but not consistent. I look past that and enjoy coming here with one huge issue. They offer water and it tastes like chemicals. It's honestly the worst tasting water in memory. i'm pretty sure there's something unsafe in it. It's sad, but we have to bring our own drinks for the kids. The beer next-door is really good but bring your own water. The city should really come test it! read more
