I bough a used Golf R from this dealership in July 2017 and was ripped off in both price and service. Before purchasing the car, I noticed a significant scrape that they claimed not to have known about and they barely reduced the price. On the drive home, I noticed other scratches and dents that weren't immediately obvious in bright sunlight. Damian Roth claimed one was accounted for in the price (without ever mentioning it prior) and promised to send me a gift card to cover the repair of the other scratches. It took them ***FIVE MONTHS** before they sorted out title and sent me my registration. It was a massive inconvenience not to have my car registered for that length of time, particularly as I need valid registration in order to park in my city. I repeatedly inquired about the gift card and after a lot of "we'll get back to you," I have been straight up ignored for months. I held out on an entirely negative review for a while because their sales guy John Vickery was super responsive for a while but even he's now refusing to respond. Don't give them your money, don't give them your service, especially if you're a woman. They don't respect you. read more

I now know why...they continue to up sell every service visit and advance the mileage care...if I'm at 20k miles, they can sell more under the 30k package. And so on. And the wait... I went in for a simple technical failure which they fixed free of charge. Yet they also warned me of my oil, my windshield wipers, and that all of my tires were damaged and extremely unsafe to drive with. I passed my inspection less than a month earlier at an actual mechanic and none of this was brought up. I ended up agreeing to an oil change and tire alignment, which I was extremely overcharged for. I regret agreeing to have the work done but I'm young, ignorant, and was fearful of my own safety. Now that I've had time to think it over, they shouldn't be checking my whole car for reasons to upsell things. Never coming back to this service department again. read more

DO NOT GET SERVICE HERE!! The Service Department is horrible!!! No matter what you go in for they say "you need an alignment". Literally, go in for a tail light out and they tell you you need an all wheel Alignment. Scammers! Fought with them about a leak in the sunroof when there was a recall on it. They report no issues. I show them water pouring in and pooling in the tray in front of the gear shift. No you must have left the sunroof open. Call VW Corporate, they tell the dealer to bring my car in. It's there for 3 days while they hose water on the outside of the sunroof. They call me to come get it because they can't find anything. 5 min later they call back "Oh sorry we just went to move it out of the garage and 2 gallons of water landed on the mechanic. Called after they fixed it all including removing the interior and drying it out and treating it for mold, ONLY because corporate was on them. Call them back because the USB in that same tray is sketchy and works intermittently. They say it needs to be replaced. Waited 3 months and have not had a call. I call them and the service guy says "talk to parts" even though they ordered it and have to install it. Parts says "No Problem have them in stock". Set a date to bring it back in. Told them I need a loaner car. Show up no loaner cars. He tells me to check back in with him. Keep in mind I purchased this car NEW from this same dealer and it's a 2 year old car with UNDER 7000 miles. This place is awful! Customer Service Doesn't exist! I am tempted to sell the car so I don't have to deal with them or VW ever again. VW CORPORATE NEEDS TO MONITOR THEIR DEALERS BETTER! Look at the other bad reviews. Do not go here if you need service on your VW! I brought in my 2018 Tiguan and told them what I was experiencing (check engine and epc lights on, car bucking, lost acceleration, car revving to 3k rpm) and they said nothing was wrong and insinuated that I was exaggerating issues. Driving it home, my car broke down and I almost caused a huge accident on 422 because of it. When I called them to see if they would courtesy tow it back because I did not feel safe, they basically said "not our problem". When I asked what they would do differently if I did tow it back there, they said "nothing, we will do the same thing we did before". Needless to say, I did not bring it back there! I brought it to D'Ambrosio VW and they diagnosed and fixed the problem (fuel injector) within 24 hours. Fred Beans does not care about its customers safety!! Just got back from an Audi dealership to address an issue with a headlight and a rattling window only to discover from the service rep my warranty was null and void from an accident to the car prior to me purchasing it from this dealership back in March. The Carfax report will only show reported accidents !!!! This piece of paper is worthless when presented by a salesperson. The only deduction I can conclude is that their 120 pt inspection prior to purchasing is a crock or they when they purchased the car at auction, they figured they could fix the accident area, not report it to Carfax, and thus sell the car with the implied notion it has never been in an accident. Avoid this dealership as deception and perceived value seem to be the cards they play in this dirty game of non-disclosure. read more

The sales person tried to sell me an older car for more a higher price than their agreed to AAA price--he tried to sell me a 2011 for more than the negotiated price for a 2012. The "Business Manager" is an overbearing and intimidating man who berates customers. He jumped in my face telling me what my experience was. He constantly interrupted and didn't listen. His approach is to GIVE you YOUR opinion when he wants it. He then tried to deceive me when we were discussing financing options, switching both the percentage rate and the amount at the last minute. The overall experience was horrible. It took too long and was unpleasant for much of the time. After 3+ hours I left disturbed and unhappy, though thankfully without a car. Dissappointing first service expierience. Be cautious of this dealership as their service practices are questionable and not trustworthy. My son brought his brand new 2019 Jetta in for a first oil change. I was OK with the higher dealer price....but this $100 sevice ticket all the suddenly escalated to more than a $300 service charge when they added a tire balance with rotation for literally an almost brand new car with OEM tires. And no issues or symptoms indicated this was needed. I spoke to several of the service department managers at my dealerships, including Porsche, and none said a tire balance is needed on a nearly brand new vehicle with 6,000 miles. Then magically this nearly showroom new car needed a full four wheel alignment..despite nothing being brought up about any alignment issues or any indication of uneven tire wear. Ironically I had just driven the car with my son to the Jersey Shore and back the week before and it drove flawlessly. These kind of service department practices are what give dealerships a bad name. I am OK with higher service prices but these folks took advantage of a young person with out of state tags. I can only imagine how they treat women. I emailed the GM Joe Levash and he was quick to respond....but then I didn't hear from him until I emailed him again weeks later. And I havent heard back since. My experience is the quality of a dealership is a function of top management and this dealership concerns me on both the service and sales sides. There are plenty of VW dealerships in the area. They worked with me to get the car I needed within my budget and didn't try to push me towards anything outside my budget. They were upfront and honest and just gave me details of things they offer, but didn't at all try to pressure me into anything like other places had been doing. I went with a lease and I couldn't be happier with it. I have the comfort of knowing that I have a bumper to bumper warranty that will cover me for the duration of my lease and I only have to get the car serviced every 10,000 miles! The worst experience ever in my life time of buying a car! I went to look at the used Lexus and decided to purchase the vehicle. The day we were there the manager and I had came to a price, so we down for the car and that day we asked if there was two keys for the vehicle and the sales person said yes there was ! When we came to pay for the car and pick up the car the price all the sudden changed it was two thousand more then what we agree on so we had to wait for the manager to finish the conference and this problem was solved ... now we ask for the keys they give us one and said we had to pay for the second key which they originally had said came with the car! Fine we paid for the key and left ... then we realized we drove off with a tank of gas that was close to empty! When the key arrived and I realized it was missing the other half part now they asking us for another 100 dollars for the other parts! Please double think before you buy a car there they are liars and not reputable at all!!!!! read more

Received a "free oil change" certificate after my family and I moved to the area, supposedly to welcome us to the neighborhood. So, I called this morning to see how much time an oil change would take. I was told it would be less than an hour, so I went in-- arriving at about 9:20 a.m. This could have been a win for Fred Beans. Bring in new customers by offering a free, low cost service. Impress them and there's a good chance they'll come back for future services and/or car purchases. It would have worked on me! If their price-matching claims proved true, I would have certainly returned to take their advice about replacing my back tires and break pads. However, after waiting for almost 2 hours, the attendant informed me that my "free" oil change would cost me $45. Granted, the voucher did say "up to $50 in value," so I expected to be charged a nominal amount, but certainly not $45. I let him know that I paid less for my last oil change without a "free" voucher. He said he would see what he could do and came back 10 minutes later with an invoice for $21--better, but still...$71 for an oil change? I don't buy it. I encourage Fred Beans to rethink this ploy. Although some might claim their free oil change and never step foot into your dealership again, many would claim it and then continue doing business with you for years to come. Despite the longer-than-anticipated wait, I appreciated the friendliness of your attendant and your comfortable waiting area. Unfortunately, instead of creating a customer for life, this "welcome" left me doubting your trustworthiness. I hope the $21 and change you got from me today is worth the future business you've lost from me and those I will certainly tell about this experience. (But I'm pretty sure that if you asked your marketing team--or your accountant-- they would assure you that it is not.) read more

The GM, Richard Sharp, contacted me and apologized. He offered to put new wheel locks on my car and detail it. I appreciate the apology and hope for future customers this doesn't happen again. I was more disappointed with how I was treated by Joe than that he only offered to put new bolts on my car without wheel locks. Although, the dealer still claims the key for the wheel lock was in the car when they sold it, I still claim it wasn't. I never serviced my car anywhere else and never had another flat, I am glad the issue was addressed. read more

I had a WONDEFRUL experience at Fred Beans VW in Devon. For months I'd been doing my due diligence searching for a used VW Tiguan but was unable to find all that I wanted in my desired price range. That's how I knew I had found a deal when I saw a VW Certified Tiguan listed on Fred Beans' website with all of my "wishlist" items, below expected price. I had also done my research on what my trade in would be worth. I had a number in my head for what I 'hoped' to get for my used car. They appraised my car and offered me that very amount, without me having even told them what it was so I knew I wasn't getting ripped off. Chris Malloy was a very knowledgeable salesperson and didn't hesitate before answering any of my questions. Chris even put the vehicle aside as "sold" for me during the couple days I needed to get my paperwork in order. Luckily, because someone came in during that time wanting to buy it! The finance manager was so helpful in getting me the best finance rates. While waiting for them to process all of my paperwork, the general manager even offered to go out and bring me back some lunch. Some of the cars on Fred Beans online also come with free yearly inspections. Factor that in with the fact that VW's only get serviced every 10k miles, and I'm already seeing a savings of $2k+ if I drive my VW to 100,000 miles. Overall very good people who work with you to put you in the car you want. I will continue to go back to VW in Devon. read more

This review is for only the car buying experience at Fred Beans. I have not yet used the service. I bought a new Golf Sportwagon at Fred Beans. The dealership is pleasant and immaculate. The sales representative and sales manager are professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. The sales representative took all the time required for an extensive test drive and to answer my many questions about the car's features and technologies. Negotiating the final price was not at all confrontational, and based on equivalent examples on cars.com the dealership is very competitive. Vehicle delivery can be lengthy. I already had credit approval from Volkswagen and had read and approved the credit contract and it still took 1 hour 45 minutes to complete the transaction at the given appointment time on a Friday afternoon. Budget your time accordingly. Deleting one star for that. Still, highly recommended. Ask for Matt. read more

Never ever buy a used car from Fred Beans Volkswagen. We bought a used car that looked great and tested great but within 3 months the car wouldn't start so they diagnosed it as a battery which we paid for but no big deal. Two months later it again wouldn't start and now they said it was a sensor so another $800. One month later we again were stranded because the car wouldn't start. Now it's supposedly moisture and they want to replace the entire wiring for $1500 plus another 150 for diagnostics. Bottom line it's not even been a year and we had to put another $3000 out for repairs. Do yourself a favor and buy elsewhere. read more

Up selling was horrible here, took my daughters Volkswagen Beetle in for 30,000 check , got a bad feeling from the start after talking to MARK , when he said I'll let you know what the technician finds in the check and give you our suggestions, before they even looked at the car. Got a call 5 hours later at 3:30pm and he had a list of issues with the car which came out to $1880.00 not including the 309.00 for the 30,000 check which they up charged from 291.00. I told them I wanted to pick-up my car that night and they wouldn't give me my car until the next morning, held it hostage ! I called another auto repair for a second opinion ( so glad I did) , took it over and they said it did need to fix 3 of the 6 issues, and they took care of it for under 1000.00 including new tires and back shocks, they also informed me that some of the services that were suppose to be done with my 30,000 check were not done , so I payed and they didn't do the services, Also, charged me 23.60 for envirmt/supplies which is a 1.50 charge , charged me for washer fluid that was suppose to be included in service also , also for a brake flush I wasn't ask if it was ok to do! Horrible , will never go back, no wonder they could get me right in! Disappointing . My dealership in NE, has never done this up-charging to me ever !!! read more

I am a young woman who was trying to purchase a car alone. I don't know if that made them treat me the way they did, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. The sticker price on the car was not bad, but that's about the only positive I can give you. Upon looking at the Carfax report on the vehicle I came in to see, there were certain major parts of the vehicle that had been replaced. I was told the reason why is that there were recalls from the manufacturer. One simple internet search later disproved that. So, there were recurring issues with major components that they were trying to brush under the rug. Then, I was offered an insultingly low amount for my trade in. After that, the financing they proposed was ludicrous. I had done my homework and knew the rate someone like me with a fair amount to put down with good credit should get, and I was quoted almost THREE TIMES that amount. I was told those rates I mentioned only apply to brand new cars. Lies. When I said I would get financing elsewhere, all of a sudden someone I'd never met "called in a favor" and suddenly the rate was halved (yet still too much). The more research I did in ascertaining the facts for myself, the more I was put off by this dealership. I did not purchase the vehicle from them, and I am sorry I wasted my time trying to do business there. I will not make that mistake again. read more

I am excited to share that I personally had a seamless, simple and stress-less experience in purchasing my 2011 Jetta SE from Fred Beans in Devon. I visited this location in the summer when I began contemplating a car. Joe Lavash was the sales manager who met us in the showroom, and brought us through a variety of options after hearing our needs. Ash took us on our test drives and was very well informed about the vehicles. I never found them pushy or arrogant - they were sincere and simply helpful. When I returned yesterday, January 2nd, with a more specific perspective on what I wanted, Joe and Ash guided us to the right car and the right deal. I couldn't be happier. The entire dealership was supportive and happy for us as we returned the next day to complete the transaction and drive off the lot. All information was presented clearly, and everyone was quite calm and patient in answering our many questions (my bf asks A LOT of questions). My air conditioner stopped working on my 02 VW Golf and it was getting closer to inspection time. I brought it to Fred Beans and ended up having to pay 900 to get the air conditioner fixed. Not sure if I was scammed on that or not but I paid it because I have a child and it is summer so it needed to be fixed. My car failed safety inspection. They said all the bolts needed replaced and three lights were out. This was estimated at 1,500. This plus the AC repairs is more than half the worth of the car. I decided to take my car somewhere else. I couldn't find three lights out. I found my back left break light was not working but it just needed to be tightened (I'm not blaming them for this). I also noticed my wind shield wipers are falling apart a bit and was surprised they DIDN'T note this in their safety inspection. I took my car to Pep Boys for the inspection and was so nervous I'd have to pay a lot of money to pass inspection. I straight up asked them to repair the wipers so I don't know if they would have made me repair them or not if I didn't but..... MY CAR PASSED with NO other issues. To say my experience at Fred Beans was lackluster is a nice way of describing it. I have never met such arrogant sales persons in my life. They made it abundantly clear from the second I walked in that they were selling more than enough cars, and didn't need my business. In fact I was even misled by BS offers to get into the dealership in the first place. I attempted to purchase a new vehicle by utilizing, the USAA Auto buyer service, which dealers voluntarily agree to participate in. Basically the dealers guarantee a price, and they are supposed to honor it. Well I had a price guarantee of 6800 and change, and the dealer gave me some lame excuse about only being able to offer 6300 as the car buyer service incorrectly added in an additional incentive they weren't supposed to. This separate incentive involved a vehicle trade in, which I was not going to do. No where did it state this in the dealer Certified MSRP price, and no where did I see any incentive for 500 on a trade in on the car buyer service. I saw the VW incentives, but that was it. I told the salesman as I used to work in sales, you know sometimes you lose on a deal and have to honor the terms. I worked with high net worth individuals and that is how it is. His remark was, "well they are high net worth individuals," as if my money isn't the same as theirs, and there for I should just accept his garbage. I found this guy to be a snobbish person, and if he were my sales manager, I would fire him immediately for telling a customer that. Next, the dealer stated I was not eligible for the VW 0% APR for 60 months VW Credit incentive. I stated I am reading the fine print, but can't see where it says I can get the dealer authorized (reimbursed by VW), year end cash, but not the financing offer. Financing at that rate is available to prime borrowers, which I am I pointed out the lack of verbiage on VW.com related to combination of dealer cash and financing being mutually exclusive. I even showed him other dealer sites, and no where did it spell that out. I finally pointed out you know VW has had negative press lately, so maybe they just want to move vehicles. He didn't care. Eric said I can use the Auto Buyer Price and get the 1500 off of the auto buyer price but would have to use one of their private creditors. This is anathema to what is on the car certificate, and on VW's website. No where does it say you cannot combine offers, no where!!! I asked him to point this fact out, he could not. Bottom line up front, these punks wasted my day off. The result, USAA has been notified of their BS, and lack of guaranteeing price. The sales manager Eric basically said we don't need these services, so there you go Eric, I'll help you along the way. Tomorrow I will reiterate my dissatisfaction to USAA, and I will phone the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on VW. You see while I was seeking recourse for dealer failure to recognize price guarantee, my girlfriend was on the phone with VW Credit. Theses idiots had no idea why you couldn't combine VW dealer incentive with VW financing and a car buyer service. You know Eric, no one in their right mind is paying MSRP for a car, you know this, I know it, so the car buyer service was irrelevant. But your skimping out on $500 dollars, and trying to ram me into accepting a higher rate of car financing is Illegal. In fact, VW has false advertised (again), misled consumers, and your dealerships are slamming people into using sources of finance that benefit you. Eric told me there would be no way he could give me the price, the dealer cash and the VW financing, that he would lose 4K on the deal. You know Eric sometimes you lose on individual deals, and don't expect sympathy from people when you are telling them that honoring a price guarantee and VW policy would result in a loss for you. We found the vehicle we wanted online, and it was at the Fred Beans in Devon. Even though it has been shuffled around to different Fred Beans dealerships for over a year, it was not clean when we arrived for a test drive. It was not clean when arrived two days later to purchase it. It had a new inspection sticker, but the windshield wipers were obviously shredded and needed to be replaced. We left it for a week after purchase, and hardly anything noticeable had been done (two spots on the paint were touched up, others remained untouched). We took the car and then realized the next morning that one wiper blade had been removed but not replaced. They sent someone out with a new one. However the next morning while driving in the rain, it was obvious the other blade needed to be replaced, and a crack was forming up the windshield from the uncovered metal hitting the windshield. So the car went back again for another week. Windshield was replaced and another new wiper blade, but the car STILL was never properly cleaned. I guess i didn't realize that it wasn't standard to expect a detailed car when buying from a dealership. As much as I genuinely liked Jamie, the "get by doing the bare minimum" attitude of the company couldn't live up to her assurances. But hey, we didn't haggle the price, so i guess they win. read more
