So bought a car from them, extremely happy with the service and sale. The 1 star is the service center. Brought my car in for its normal inspection and servicing. Was called an hour later and told that I need to spend 5k on brakes, rotors, tires and fix a dented rim. Took it to another mechanic as that seemed expensive. Only to find out I needed none of that. Tires and brakes are completely fine, they checked the rims twice no dents found. This is a huge breach of trust, not only was the quote double anyone else I didn't need any of the work. After recently moving to the area with our VW, we had to find a dealer close to my office that I could pop over to get serviced. They are always able to take me on short notice, which should be a red flag. Every time I have gone into this dealership, they try to upsell you on unnecessary services. They told me I had to get my cabin air filter, engine air filter, and alignment done. After YouTubing how to change my cabin air filter, I went to Walmart and purchased my own, and saved over $50 doing so. What I realized is that when I took the old filter out, it REALLY wasn't that dirty. I was also able to save about $60 doing my alignment at a local repair shop that I trusted a little more. All of their recommendations came out to an additional $763 on top of the 30,000 mile service I was already paying for. When receiving my car back from them (they charged me $35 to take a screw out of the tire and "cap" it. The next day, tire pressure monitor light came on and I have had a slow leak every since. When I took it back to them to try and resolve the issue, they just filled up the tire with air and reset the tire pressure monitor light, so it came on again two days after this. The worst part about this service department is that when I went in for a 30,000 mile service, I paid for a brake fluid flush as part of the service. They tried to upsell me on this too!! ($163!) Afterwards, I went home and checked online to make sure I read it correctly, and it turns out I was right. When emailing the service manager, he dodged my first 2 emails, blaming it on the technician and then completely ignored my next 7 emails. It then became comical to me to send the same email every morning to see if I would ever get a response. The answer? No. It took contacting VW American to solve this issue. STAY AWAY! read more

Came in to have them install a SINGLE suspension spring. They did fine work, but it was absolutely over priced. $550 for 1.5 hours of work. Replace one suspension spring, and do an alignment. That's $366 per hour! They didn't need any parts, just labor. $366 per hour! Unless it's warranty work, I'm never coming back. Imagine if I needed all 4 springs changed? Even giving them the benefit of the doubt at 3.75 hours... at that rate... it would've cost me $1375!!! What the actual F! NO PARTS NEEDED! I complained initially, but needed to get the work done, as I needed to drive the car the next day. Once it was done I had to run off. Complained in an email that was bounced back, then complained in their survey. Asked for a callback, but have yet to hear from them. If you've got work that needs to be done, go somewhere else and save HUNDREDS, if not thousands! I'm NEVER coming back. read more

Have to say I'm surprised by all the negative reviews! I bought my first VW here a New 2009 Jetta TDI. They didn't have the model I wanted in the Blue Graphite so they swapped with a dealer in NY and had it delivered the next day! They performed all of its factory maintenance with no complaints! I traded my Jetta in for a 2012 Golf TDI at the sign and drive event because they had one with the Tech Package (Sunroof, Navigation, Xenon headlights, fog lights, and premium Dynaudio system) I got a fair value for my low mileage trade and had a hassle free experience. Drove it off the lot that day! Fred Beans has been doing my service ever since and I have no complaints. Today I called at 7:30AM in a pinch and they fit me in for a 9am appointment. Came for an oil change, alignment, and rotation. I was told the car also needed brake fluid flush, coolant flush, and both filters (air&cabin) changed. Only when I returned home I realized that I had had both filters replaced only 4 months/4,000 mi prior. So, for them to be that dirty I'd to spend the entire 4 months/4,000 mi on dirt roads. Which is not even possible in a Golf, it's not a Touareg. When I opened the air filter box, I found two dry leaves underneath the filter. Was it even changed? Because they lied about the filters, I started wondering how honest they were about both fluids and I posted my honest review online. Then a manager reached out saying that the recommendations were made based on the mileage. This is not true. When I was there I was told both fluids did not LOOK good. But the manager's saying no one looked at them. That means they were probably fine and they just ripped me off. Steer clear of this shop. They're scammers. read more

We were referred to this dealership by a friend and what a great experience. We told them what car we wanted to see, they had it ready for us to test drive when we arrived. We did the test drive alone, after giving copies of our license, which was fun. We talked with Jamie and Anthony once we got back, there was NO pressure from either of them to buy a car. I am very disappointed with this dealership. Service is usually poor, but today finally drove me away for good. In 2019 I bought new Pirelli tires for my Tiguan. Supposedly top of the line. I went in today because one tire had bubble in the side wall. They told me all tires needed to be replaced because of "tire noise" and low tread. As the tires were three years old and only had 20,000 miles on them I asked about the warranty. I was told that the bubble was a road hazard and not covered and the other tires didn't really need replaced so they weren't covered either. Nevertheless they said I was taking a risk driving on the tires. I took my car and left. I will never go back. read more

My wife and I have purchased or leased 4 cars from Fred Beans VW over the last 10 years but Im finished with them as of today. Recently took our 2012 Tiguan in because the engine light was on. Strange sounds from under the hood. The car was out of warranty. They proceeded to do diagnostic tests and told me that the turbo needed to be replaced. I asked how much that would cost. Almost $3000 came their reply. We said no way and drove over to pick up the car in order to get a second opinion. The second opinion came back that it was a faulty valve on the turbo. Fix cost? $500 and change. Wow..... Received a call from VW saying they talked to corporate and could fix our Tiguan for $500. Wow.....big, almost $2500 drop in price! Some might think thats great... I fumed. Had we simply shrugged and accepted the $2900+ estimate, we would've been taken badly. Bottom line: they play a game in my opinion. They present an outrageous price, hoping that you don't balk. If you do, they'll drop the fix price to what it should be. Also used this maneuver when our Tiguan went in for an inspection and it was going to cost around $2400 to fix a faulty water pump--"VW corporate" dropped price to $1200. We accepted that as a fair gesture on their part. Never again. read more

Our experience at this dealership started when we took my girlfriend's 2010 VW Jetta TDI w/ DSG in for warranty work covered by the emissions warranty. The high pressure EGR valve failed and needed replaced. No problem, we had it towed because this dealership was closer than having it towed all the way back to York. The car had ~6500 miles on the current oil change and we do all the maintenance ourselves but stick to the recommended service intervals set fourth by VW. She was called and informed that she had a massive oil leak coming from her filter housing cap and that they needed to change the oil immediately. She agreed because it was going to need changed soon anyway. In addition, 6500+ miles on an oil change and a pressurized feed leaking? I had my doubts that this was true because this would surly lead to destruction of the car's engine. When she was informed that the work was complete and the car was ready to be picked up. I drove her to the dealer and since I have a lot of experience with working on cars, rebuilding engines, transmissions and am ASE certified, she told me to make sure all the work was done. I performed a diagnostic scan with my VAG-COM Scanner to verify everything was operating properly. When everything checked out on the computer side of things I went to verify the oil had been done. What I found had astonished and angered me. The oil was black as coal, the filter housing had not leaked (no sign of oil anywhere on the engine block or splash shield) and the white paint marker I use to mark bolts as I torque them had not been broken and was still visible as a continuous line from the black filter housing down to the aluminum on the engine block portion of the filter housing. The oil had not been changed and they were simply trying to make money off of her due to the lack of profit that warranty work brings. When the technician was brought to me for questioning he said that the work was done and all he forgot to do was reset the light. he had also informed me that he took the car for a twenty mile long test to make sure everything worked... Really??? Okay, I know that diesel oil is a high detergent oil, but it does not get that black in twenty miles and what tech takes a car for a twenty mile test drive? Lies are what this tech spewed and it made me disappointed and also reminded me why I do all of my maintenance myself. After he had been questioned he was clearly frustrated and asked "...are we done here?" I responded with a yes and he said "Okay, go back to York!" to which I agreed and told him that I would make sure the oil changed were done right myself. The service manager was even chuckling when he said that. If this is how Fred Beans Service treats their customers than why are they still open? If their techs and service insist on taking advantage of people, why are they still open? If Fred Beans lies to it's customers about oil and the customer runs their engine another ten thousand miles and destroys their car, who's liable? Fred Beans should either do the work right, or not at all. Please properly train your techs to avoid situations like this because people like to sue in today's world. I can say the only thing positive about this visit was that the warranty work was performed as expected (EGR valve is easy to change) and we were refunded for the false oil change. I will be paying the extra money to tow the car back to York the next time it needs warranty work because York VW's service department is dependable in their professional appearance and they tell you the truth.I will also be sending this report as a formal complaint to VW of America so we can put an end to disrespectful service like the one you will experience while choosing Fred Beans VW of Devon, PA. read more

I was told my under 30k vw needed some $150 "Fred Beans"-marketed AC package ("frosty freeze"?) when I complained my AC smelled funny. I have previously been explained that in that model year, the AC gets condensation because of the way it is laid out and will smell, but can be sanitized. Said no thanks to this package, but explained to them I just wanted it sanitized. I will most likely not return for being attempted to be taken a fool. read more

The bean's been a bit mealy. It's been one thing after another since I bought my "Volkswagen CERTIFIED! pre-owned" from Fred Beans Devon a few weeks ago. I found this beautiful 3-year old CC on the Web, both leased by and serviced by Fred Beans for the last 3 years. I negotiated purchase via email and drove from Maryland to Devon to pick it up. It was spotless on the outside, but the inside was spotty and the owners manual is missing, which might be a metaphor for Fred Beans of Devon. The guys have been well meaning, but shoddy, I regret to report. First time I try to parallel park the car in NY after picking it up from PA, the parking camera isn't working, and some message takes over my screen telling me that my Parking Pilot isn't available, except that this model doesn't have any Parking Pilot, so what's up with that? So I call my Beaner agent Pat, and he says he doesn't know, except that everything worked for him when he pulled out the car that morning for me. (Okay, but what about the Beaner mechanic who "precertified" their car? Didn't he notice anything wrong?) I had made a big deal all along about not wanting a payment even a penny over $300/month, no matter what, but guess what, manager Anthony presents me with a monthly payment over $300. I tell him he should be ashamed of himself, but he's not, and would you believe he hits up my credit car for $20 more to get that monthly payment down to $299? He would have bought a lot of good karma if he had pulled the $20 out of his own wallet. Is that penny wise and pound foolish? That might be Fred Beans. Anyhow, I'm miffed today because after my second 7am visit to my local Volkswagen Service to get the Beaner rear parking camera fixed, I learn that the annoying "Pilot Parking" message is not going away without a $152 fix not under warranty. Well, I email Anthony this morning about this newest irritation, and still no answer at the writing of this review. I would have been appeased with, "I'll get right on this and get back to you," but no. "Not a happy camper," I signed off on my email. No response. So here's mine. (Btw, Pat said he wasn't just my sales agent, but happily ever after for any problems after, except that he was cc'd on the email and hasn't answered either. So that's no response times 2.) It's been 3 weeks of one thing after another. I've had to call to find out why VW Credit didn't reach out to me, and I'm sill waiting for them to send me my Maryland plates in the mail. I have purchased 3 cars from Devon Hill, then Fred Beans, over the years. The sales process has always been smooth. I'm old enough to know that all the sales sweet talk, care about you, best friend talk disappears after you make the purchase. Insincerity is to be expected in sales. My most recent purchase has been a 2014 Jetta wagon, bought new. I have only had it serviced at Fred Beans. I have always accepted the recommended services, even the perpetual wheel alignment, and always get my oil changed. The service desk is professional, impersonal, polite. I'm writing because I was done wrong. Because a promise was broken. Because I was made to feel that I didn't matter. I have always receive a loaner when I have been in for inspections. I live outside West Chester and have a bit of a drive to get to Devon. In short I called for an appointment, specifically asked for a loaner, was clearly told I would have one. Yes, as you might have guessed, no loaner was available. Yes, I could have left with my car after a 40 minute commute, and made another appointment. I could have been driven home via courtesy car. But instead, I had to wait 3 hours. I missed my doctor's appointment, and cancelled another meeting that i had planned. It was a real drag. I depended on that loaner being there. And was put in a bad spot without much remorse. Basically, it was a 'sorry but tough luck for you' attitude. I have been loyal, have been willing to pay the marked up dealership rates, have consented to the suggested extras, and in return I expected better service, consideration of my time, and respect. This is the worst dealership. I have had multiple terrible experiences here and I cringe any time I have to use them. When they sold me my car, they didn't weight the wheels properly (verified by my mechanic), and there was paint all over the windshield. When I brought the car to get my key fixed, they kept it for 5 hours and the shuttle took 45 minutes to arrive at my house 5 minutes away. I just brought it in for a recall issue and dropped it off at 11am and gave me an estimated completion time of 2pm. By 3, they are saying they haven't started on my car yet and need to keep it through the weekend. They are more worried about their closing time then their time management.
