Hand weights, bands, and dance... A great combination! The room is big, well lit, and the people who go to class are friendly. The scheule of classes gives you many optional times of the day to go. The room is air conditioned when it is hot outside, and occasionally we're even treated to cold "spa towels" (washcloth size) to cool off at some point during the class. The hour goes quickly, and the music and instructors are great! They have a college student special for the summer, which makes starting-up price very reasonable to try it for a month or two!

Plagued by injuries this year, I've been on the hunt for a new delivery method for my daily dose of…read moreendorphins. My yoga practice just hasn't been cutting it for me. I've been walking with a friend and pedaling away on my exercise bike, but I'm a girl who needs the espirt de corps of a class. On the spur of the moment, Laura and I (Zumba lovers from way back), decided to give Jazzercise a go. I know, I know...but it's not what you think. This is super fun, old school, low-impact aerobics set to a current soundtrack (Bruno Mars! Ed Sheeran!), and the lot of us (young, old, and in-between) chassed and step-tapped for a happy forty minutes before turning to light weights, crunches, and floor exercises. We were sweaty and grinning and the hour whizzed by. At $55 for unlimited classes a month, plus lots of class times to choose from, this could be my new thing (daycare, too). It's too bad my old Jane Fonda-ish thong is long gone, but I am most definitely pulling out the sweatband for this one. Pricing is month by month, no joining fees. The best deal is $49 a month unlimited classes automatic funds transfer, that can be canceled anytime. Regular price is $55 for a month of unlimited classes and $15 walk in. We went to Old Saybrook but find Jazzercise in Niantic, Killingworth, and Madison, too.

Let me start with saying that I LOVE Zumba. It's the only workout that I have kept up consistently…read moreover the last two years. Although I enjoy a variety of instructor styles, I can still be very choosy with classes and studios. I LOVE STUDIO Z. I live in Dallas but was visiting family in Branford for the week and wanted to enjoy some home made Italian food without adding inches to my waistline. I found Studio Z online and decided to give it a try. Their website clearly states prices and class times, so I went in on a Monday to buy a block of 4 classes for $35. I was greeted by Danielle, the owner and her lovely mother and little girl. They were very welcoming and asked if I was new to Zumba. This question is one of the most important things to ask new comers and although I've been doing Zumba a while now, I really appreciated that they asked. The studio is large, clean, colorful and there is a platform for the instructors to stand on, which is a big bonus. There are cubbies to put your things in during class time. I only took Danielle and Nili's AM classes and I really enjoyed both instructors. Each brought a different take on Zumba, but they both kept the integrity of a Zumba class' components. I recommend that if you're new to Zumba that you take a class in the morning since they are less crowded and there are a lot of people on different levels. It will take a few classes to get used to it, but stick with it and ask questions! The instructors also offer modifications to either lower or up the intensity. Toning sticks, mats, and all the fixins' are provided if you don't have them so just bring yourself and have fun. Don't be intimidated by other people in the class because they were once new too and I found most people in the class to be very nice. The monthly unlimited is a bargain, I would totally go to this studio if I lived here!!! Next time I visit, I will be back to studio z!

The choreography isn't challenging, appropriate for intermediate level. They do offer the occasional master class. Some fans are placed to help you breathe. I wish parking were more plentiful and not as restricted; the wrong spot can get you towed or the business fined. I also enjoy how they participate in local events and charities.

The studio director is extremely professional and understands how to run a studio. At the other studio my daughter attended the dress code and chosen costumes were very skimpy and overall inappropriate. However, at the dance corner all costumes are extremely classy. Music choice as well as choreography are classy and different than everything you see at other studios. The friendly environment and variety of abilities allows for an welcoming atmosphere for any ability, age range,or commitment. I would definitely recommend this studio to anybody from the most experienced dancer to someone just starting.
