I've had better frozen pizza than what I had today. The pizza was a bit soggy and not very much meat for a meat pizza.

Some of the best gnocchi I've ever had. A lot of gnocchi can be dense and sticky. Not here. Perfectly fluffy and delicate in a well balanced truffle cream sauce. The sauce is so tasty, I very naughtily use my pizza crust, which is perfectly, divinely, fluffy to scoop it up. So, yes, I think you all should eat here. read more

Tried Fratm and the flavors really stand out--the crust has a nice chew with a light char, and the sauce tastes fresh and balanced, not too acidic. The pasta was rich without being heavy, and you can tell they use quality ingredients in every bite. read more

People were nice and service was fine, but the pizza was not. It was not piping hot when it arrived, and the crust was very soggy on the bottom. A calzone suffered from the same problem, in that the filling was quite wet and the interior of the calzone seemed more steamed than baked, which was not appealing at all. Server said it was the Neapolitan way, but I not recall those problems when having pizza in Naples. Ingredients were good enough, but just too wet, perhaps from the fior de latte mozzarella. The mushroom soup was not very flavorful, but the Asian pear salad with Arugula was excellent. They are a new business and are sincerely trying, so I wish them well, but my high expectations from the many positive reviews ended up being quite misplaced. So I leave this honest review in the hope they might take some note and address the issue and that your expectations will not be similarly disappointed. Tiny little Oliver's has far better (truly outstanding) pizza to our taste, and the mushroom soup at Mulberry Street Pizzeria is far superior. read more

The food here is excellent. It's barely the same dish as what you get from an American pizza parlor. Fluffy crust, fresh cheese and basil, pronounced fresh tomato flavor. The prices are incredible. Pizzas are $17-22 and feed two. For a party of 4 I'd probably order 3. The staff is pleasant and attentive. My only negative comment is that it's very loud in there. That's probably not something easily fixed given the way the building is and that it's packed solid but if you're after a quiet dinner this probably isn't it. read more

Amazing and authentic Neapolitan style pizza. We tried the duck prosciutto starter, the peara and short rib pizzas. All the items we ordered were delicious and high quality. I ordered through Dash one pizza and Short Rib dinner. The Meat pizza had one meat that was very spicy And all the meat was only on one of the 4 slices, bad distribution of the meat. Overall this small pizza @ $22.00 was just okay and really only enough for one person so definitely overpriced. The Short Ribs was a small portion and hardly any sauce/gravy with potatoes and again overall just okay and again overpriced at $36.00. Why potatoes when it's an Italian restaurant so have pasta of some sort of many types instead. I hate leaving negative feedback but I wasted $100.00 just to give this new business a shot. Worst pizza I've ever had, and I've eaten at Domino's!! The bottom crust was soggy, smothered with watery sauce. Could not even pick the slice up. My friend had the eggplant parmesan, which was clearly pre-made and came out lukewarm. The prices were comparable to a high end restaurant, the food quality was definitely not. The atmosphere was loud, family style, with lots of TVs. If you're a sports fan, try your luck, but otherwise would not recommend. read more

Extremely disappointing experience. I specifically wanted the Fettuccine Short Ribs special, but were told they had run out only after our order had already been placed. It felt like a total bait-and-switch. To make matters worse, the management is incredibly guest-unfriendly. We were a party of eight, and while they automatically charge a 20% gratuity, they refused to split the tab. Our waiter was kind enough to try and accommodate our request to split, but he later had to apologize and explain that his Manager specifically stepped in and forced him to undo it. After that conflict, the service vanished. We had to flag down other staff just for water refills. The food itself was mediocre for the price; one guest paid $5 to add prosciutto and received only a few tiny flecks. It's a shame because the remodel is beautiful and the Neapolitan brick oven creates a great atmosphere, but the rigid management and poor service ruined the evening. read more

I was in town for three days on business and I ate dinner two of those three days. My only disappointment was not eating here the third day. I love pizza and this place has great pizza. It was their soft opening this week and it was pretty empty on the first evening. On the second evening it was pretty busy and everything seemed to be working well! The pizzas were basic and soggy. Since the center of the pizzas were significantly thinner, it could not support the weight of the toppings. Some of the toppings did not seem fresh therefore the texture was a little off. Well, I think the worst part of this restaurant is the service. The staff seems disorganized and it was chaotic. Our waiter did the bare minimum, the service was not friendly. I think the worst part of this whole dinner was him staring me down after I paid and judging with how much tip I will give him. I don't usually take the time out to do Yelp but my pizza was so good I have to take the time out to do so. I used to go to Mauro's in Fairfax but John closed up and left the state. Disappointed, I didn't find my new pizza place. But, today I found it! I ate half the pizza in the car, another slice when I got home, and the rest of it for dinner. It was really good. Crust and all. All the ingredients were real and fresh. And, the price was just right like Mauro's. I look forward to next week for my next pizza. Thank You, FRATM. I went with a friend for dinner this week and had a nice dining experience. We started with a bottle of Pinot Grigio from the Torino region of Italy, which was a great bottle of wine and at a fair price for restaurant dining. We ordered bruschetta which just about made me sing. American tomatoes are usually very unappealing to me, but these tomatoes were nice and red and fresh and very well marinated. It was delicious. The Asian pear salad was next, which I highly recommend. The combination of flavors with just the right amount of Asian pear and pumpkin seed to give it a little bit of crunch, tossed in a thyme vinaigrette and topped with the perfect amount of goat cheese is something I will definitely come back for. As for entrées, we ordered a salciccia pizza and the salmon. The presentation of the salmon was absolutely gorgeous, and the vegetables were cooked to perfection, however, the fish tasted like perhaps it was out of season and had been frozen. It was cooked perfectly. Nice and flaky. It looked beautiful, however It was quite fishy, and salmon normally does not taste fishy like this when it's fresh. I would give it a try again in season based on the overall presentation of this dish. The pizza was fantastic however I do wish that the crust were just thick enough that when you pick it up, the whole piece of pizza doesn't collapse. Neapolitan pizza has a nice simple pizza crust that is quite thin so this is not out of my expectation, but I do wish that they would plump it up just a wee bit more to be easier to eat. To finish our meal, we ordered tiramisu and a glass of port wine. It was the perfect pairing. The port was wonderful, but the tiramisu left a little to be desired. It was mostly whipped cream. We had a hard time finding any Ladyfinger cakes inside. Again it might have just been the portion that we received and I would try it again. I can't wait to try the lemoncello cake. The ambience in the dining room is great. I love what they've done with this restaurant. Aesthetically it's very pleasing and the dining room doesn't get too loud. I regret not taking photos of our food and the restaurant, but I'm generally not one to pull out my phone in restaurants. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this place. read more

Has all the trappings to make you feel like you're eating great pizza but you're not. I was so excited (SO) for this place to open and am sad to be writing this review. I've been twice, once shortly after they opened and once again in late December. It's just not that good. The dough lacks flavor as does the sauce. It's hard to even put your finger on exactly what it is but you know really good pizza when you have it and this sadly, ain't it. They've done a really good job with the interior and I think they'll be successful because we are so used to mediocre pizza in Marin. Oliver's is great but they have limited options, is only open four days and in the evenings, and all you can get there is pizza, so I was excited for a place that had more options. FRATM is no competition. Oliver's has its flaws but it's in an entirely different league than FRATM and infinitely better. I wish it wasn't so! read more

I ordered the vegan pizza with eggplant, mushrooms, and peppers. I asked to omit the peppers. The pizza came with peppers, mushrooms and 2 very small pieces of eggplant. The filling was only on the center of the pizza leaving a 1/4 of the slice without anything but dough? I complained and it took a while for the manager of the cook staff to come by. I've been to this wonderful, authentic Neapolitan restaurant three times now. Each time I was wowed by the food, wine, and service. The ambience is quite cozy and lively. Once the weather warms up or the space heaters start blazing full blast, I think the outside area will be lovely. Went with my girlfriends, with my boyfriend, and went with my family. You absolutely cannot go wrong. Our waiter Fabio was fabulous! My biggest LOVE is that I was able to practice my Italian! Put your name in, and then wander down to the Burren House for a cocktail or a glass of wine while you wait for your table. What a nice addition to San Rafael. We need a really good authentic Italian pizzas. Plus this is a Southern Italian Napolitan pizzas. We tried tuna tartar, gem salad, duck prosciutto (love it) , margherita pizza, Jalapeño pizza (my favorite). The tuna is very fresh, it's simple but has a truffle infusion. Can't go wrong with gem salad, it's like a lighter version of Caesar salad. We came on the second day after they opened. Service is attentive and Italiano. The owners are friendly and I can tell they put passion into their food. Will come back for more. On Saturday night, it was a chillaxing mode with Dodgers game, great food, who wouldn't want that. read more

Fratm is a great place to have a fun lunch or dinner with friends and family. The pizza is great - very authentic which also means no pepperoni or Hawaiian pizza. The pizza is super delicious and each pie is more than enough for one person. Long overdue authentic Italian restaurant in downtown San Rafael. We arrived early, 5:30, and the restaurant was packed and full of energy. Lots of take out orders, too, We split a delicious beet salad, and my wife ordered the calzone, and I had the eggplant parmigiana. Everything was delicious. We are so happy this restaurant is here. The pizza arrived cold. I picked it up a few minutes after placing the order, and it took me 5 minutes to get home, but it was already cold.

I went right at opening time for lunch and had Margherita pizza. Service was excellent and didn't have to wait that long for the food. Taste was excellent. Top of the pizza was a bit soggy/liquidy. Crust appeared well baked on top (slightly charred) but underside seemed a bit light in color and underbaked. Crust texture was light and soft. It lacked any sense of crispness. My overall sense was unrealized potential - the bake needed fine tuning to give some crispness and perhaps less moisture in the sauce/cheese would also help. But still a pleasant meal. read more
