Found this little gem by mistake at 730am on a rainy Tuesday morning. The barista here make great lattes. I purchased a tasty mocha. Their coffee is brewed from Frattello coffee beans. I had to review this because I was so shocked with Graham S' review. Firstly: this is a wholesale coffee roaster and seller of equipment (some to off-the-street folks, but mostly wholesale to cafes). So: you can't walk in and buy coffee beans. Well I can't go to the industrial part of town and expect to shop at Canadian Tire's Warehouse either. I have bought Fratello beans for my business and they have been excellent to deal with and roast a damn good coffee bean. Also: Fratello roasts some of the finest coffee beans around. Absolutely nothing similar between their beans and Starbucks coffee flavored charcoal. Paired with the Slayer commercial espresso machine, you'll experience one of the most amazing coffee experiences. Go to Analog or Cafe Beano to experience the Slayer/Fratello combination at its best. read more

It is amazing that we have this calibre of coffee "home grown" right in Alberta. I love coffee. It is the best coffee I've ever tasted. These guys know how to make a fantastic cup. Try them out at Calgary's Farmers Market and you'll see the level of commitment they have towards quality and educating their customers on the enticing array of flavours that define a truly great cup. so this is an update on a two year old review. I was shocked to receive a message here on yelp from one of the owners of Fratello asking me to revisit their coffee I guess after reading my 2 star review over to years ago. That's a pretty rare thing these days having someone care that much to engage people who had previously left less than perfect reviews. My old stance on Fratello was that their beans all tended to be roasted WAY darker than I like, ( basically catering to the Starbucks crowd). Russ mentioned their new Analog project was a better representation of the style of coffee I like so a few weeks ago I went with a good friend down to 17th ave to check it out and was absolutely ecstatic with the whole experience. Amazing coffee, I ordered my goto which is a double espresso and a large latte. I enjoy the espresso to stay and take the latte to go. The barista informed me that that's called a "hit and run" haha I had no idea it was an actual thing. I'm happy to say that despite the great coffee, hands down the best part of my new take on Fratello is finding people in this city that care enough about their craft to take the time to sit down and email a random dude on yelp asking them to give their product another try. This is a story I'll continue to share for a long time. read more

Went to the 'farmers' market yesterday, an ex car lot indoor warehouse with booths. Fratello Coffee was there. Three young women glaring at me. Intimidating. So I walked up and got the raised eyebrows 'you are an intrusion' aggressive look. Hi! I said, How are you? Fine. OK. passive aggressive coffee makers.....Ummm how much are your beans? A look like 'if you have to ask'...13-22 dollars depending. Depending on......the blend....oh and 13-22 per.....? quarter pound she snarled, because I had gone over my time limit for intrusive questions apparently.....I'm thinking that's 88 a pound 170 bucks a kilo. Mellita is 17 a kilo at the co-op for espresso beans often on sale for 11.00....I use 2 kilos a month....340.00 just for coffee or 34.00 just for coffee and 22.00 on sale. This is one crazy whacked out economy. So I carry on and look at tomatoes....5.75 a pound....99cents at the co-op...eggs 7 bucks a dozen 1.99 at the co-op.......And this is comparing organic to organic free range blah blah. Talk about turning food into a high priced specialty item using fear and emotional manipulation... you are a loser with bad coffee taste unless you buy our locally roasted bitter oily good only in milk espresso so buy local you co-dependants we need you to give us your money, your health and our local economy depend on us ripping you off.... I have a grinder and an espresso machine and can change the taste of my coffee with the grind, temperature and brew time just like cooking any other food, it's an art....and 17 dollar a kilo espresso beans taste wonderful if you crank the grind and the temp....I mean please....340 bucks a month I could buy the world's best grinder and espresso machine in a year and still make bad coffee not knowing how to learn to cook.
