When it comes to the coffee... RATING: 8/10 - Baya Rica I ordered an americano (typical) and it definitely hit the spot. The coffee is smooth and the furthest thing from bitter. I prefer a little less water added. The flavour is incredible but I could do a bit stronger. FUN FACT: Baya Rica's beans are grown on a coffee farm in Costa Rica. If only there were an option to give it more than 5 stars. I popped in yesterday for an hour for a coffee and a muffin and to get some work done. The gals in line in front of me were trying to pay with debit, one of the staff got my order going while we waited. It seemed there was a problem with the machine. The debit was down. The girls didn't have any cash with them, neither did I. The nearest bank machine meant driving back into Inglewood. Oh dear. I've seen places shrug their shoulders at this and simply say "sorry, the debit isn't working" and leave it upto the customer to go find some cash and come back, or leave. The staff at Caffe Rosso on this day sent the two girls to go sit down and said they'd still bring them their lunch order and let them know if the debit came back online. They did the same for me with my coffee and muffin. An hour later, there was still no debit. The option? They printed out a receipt of what I ordered and asked me to come back again soon and settle up then. I offered to leave my name and number as well, I was told it wasn't necessary. You can bet I'm going back today to pay for that muffin and coffee... and that I'll be back again after this. Not many places take the "we'll serve you anyway and trust you'll come back and cover your tab" road. You rock Caffe Rosso.

First, SxF now is its own roaster and they take it SERIOUSLY, with many rare options and it's all carefully curated, and the staff knows its stuff. I love how your options are espresso and "espresso with milk" in four sizes. Moreover you have a choice from, when I was there, six different espressos- yes, now, Q.Lab does the same thing, but with full respect to Q.Lab, SxF is its own roaster (Q.Lab sources from several different local roasters) and is a lot more luxurious, with rare beans that are distinctive. I got a "small" (this'd be a cortado or piccolo at most other shops), at 4.5 ounces, and chose an anaerobic process, single-origin option for the espresso portion and the flavour notes checked out- it was "boozy" and fascinating, and the milk was PERFECTLY steamed and at a PERFECT temperature. The whole experience was very special. Now, I'd not get that coffee every time, it's a $3 premium on top of the very-reasonable base charge of $4.50, with which you get the standard house espresso, but for once in a while this is a memorable experience. This is the place to take out-of-town guests who don't know what a world-class coffee scene we are blessed with in Calgary.

Well I can't go to the industrial part of town and expect to shop at Canadian Tire's Warehouse either. I have bought Fratello beans for my business and they have been excellent to deal with and roast a damn good coffee bean. Also: Fratello roasts some of the finest coffee beans around. Absolutely nothing similar between their beans and Starbucks coffee flavored charcoal. Paired with the Slayer commercial espresso machine, you'll experience one of the most amazing coffee experiences. Go to Analog or Cafe Beano to experience the Slayer/Fratello combination at its best.

And then I asked for a black house coffee, something with Sumatra like flavors. They recommended a blend that again, probably one of the top 10 cups of black I've consumed. Can they do it more than once? Yep, I returned a second day and they did it again. The roasting is going on inside the shop, and it's clearly run by mad men who have sold their souls to the devil of coffee. If you're looking for a scene and hipster surroundings (and hey, I like that too), move on. If you're looking for a cup of coffee to remember for a long time, this is the destination I'd recommend.
