I was walking South Beach all day as my hunger caught up with me. As much as I wanted a view on Ocean Drive, I chose to avoid the crowds and the lines. I was drawn to Fratelli la Bufala because of the Bufala in the name but I had no idea whether this place was any good. As I stepped through the entrance door, the restaurant was almost empty except for a few people huddled around a television watching sports on an Italian channel. I ordered the Bufala salad and a margherita pizza. My expectations were low but I was pleasantly surprised. The salad was incredibly fresh and prepared to perfection. Honestly, I could have waived the pizza and had a few more of these great salads. The pizza was also very good (even by my NYC standards). This restaurant knows how to do crust and char the bottom just right. I was impressed. The next day, I did it all over again but with a salmon salad and another margherita. Loved it. We were dining in tonight with my boyfriend. It was very disappointing experience. We were getting today : - burrata appitizer (3 out 5) it was over 23$ for a piece of burrata, few leaves of arugula and couple cherry tomatoes, no sauce. Too simple for the price to my opinion. Not worth. - for the main course we got spaghetti alla carbonara (2 out 5). The sauce was decent, 3 pieces of pork which were on top were very dry, but the spaghetti by itself was extremely raw. I know pasta has to be al dente, but it was way undercooked to the point it was sticky to teeth. We sent it back to the kitchen to cook it more. When it came back it was better but still wasnt cook properly. We didnt want to deal with it so ate half of our meals. - 1 glass of cabernet (4 out 5). Our server was apologetic to the pasta situation and offered another glass of wine which was nice ! The check came out 100$ for 1 appetizer, 2 pastas and 1 glass of wine. Its way a lot for the quality of food that we got !!! Service was 3 out 5. We had to ask ourself about bread to our burrata, more water, silverware were never brought to us when pasta arrived so we took it from other table. The meat sauce in the bolognese was so light, yet had a ton of meat per bite. The pasta was freshly made and slightly al dente. It was perfect. Showed up an hour later as directed, dude greeting did not seem to understand the concept of take out and just waved his hands at us. Eventually (over an hour after we arrived) a woman intervened and demanded to know exactly what we had ordered. Another 20 min and we got our food! We came here over 6 years ago on our last trip to Miami Beach together. Different location than it used to be, same amazing taste! This time we came for our wedding anniversary date and it was just as special then. The bolognese was absolutely amazing, they make everything from their pasta to their sauce in house. I was looking forward to ordering delivery as the reviews were very good. I was extremely disappointed unfortunately. One of the main dishes I ordered was not available and everything that did arrive was salty except for the children's penne with butter. Everything arrived cold which probably did not help the cause. Maybe the food would have been better if it were hot; however I don't think the salt factor would have improved. The margherita pizza was below average. My daughter loves margherita pizza and she refused to eat it. I tried it to see what the fuss was about and it was salty, missing cheese and soggy. Again the delivery could have affected this. The Salsicce e Friarielli (sausage was broccoli rabe) was ok but again salty. I ended up having that as what I initially ordered was not available. The best thing was the kids penne with butter as it was very simple and did not contain a lot of salt. I would suggest possibly working on their delivery insulation options as this is a huge factor and I definitely would not recommend this restaurant for delivery. read more
