Hastily decorated. Clean, but nowhere near sterile. The clerk seemed irritated that I walked in, like I was keeping her from something more important. So, I tried to order fast. I was a little peeved that I very clearly asked for a specific Danish, and she just kind of pretended not to hear me and very quickly threw a different Danish in the bag and gave me an irritated look and said, "Anything else?" Um... They were both huckleberry Danishes, but the one she gave me had like a third as much fruit as the one I specifically requested. Whatever. "You don't have any ham and jalapeno rolls or anything like that, do you?" "I'm sold out of that one, but I do have a bread filled with cream cheese and bacon and jalapenos." I took that. The jalapeno bacon cream cheese bread was amazing. The fillings were pretty standard, but the bread itself was phenomenal. Other reviewers have mentioned that the head chef is a classically trained pastry chef. It really showed in this bread. This bread was as good as the bread from my favorite bakeries in San Francisco. Top tier. I could probably eat a little loaf of it every day. It definitely would have been better heated up a little bit, since the cream cheese was all in a cold block on one side of the bread. But it was still really good. The Danish was decent. It definitely tasted very blueberry-y--- I'm not sure if I can tell the difference between regular blueberries vs huckleberries. Overall, it was about as good as a fresh store-bought Danish from Costco. It didn't necessarily taste home-made to me, but the website states that everything is made home-made and from scratch, so I guess it was. But it tasted kind of commercial. The total was around $9, which I thought was high considering the quality of the Danish and the amount of fillings. But prices are high in 2025... c'est la vie.

He also does everything from wedding cakes to treats for special events, like the Huckelberry Festival. His experience shines through in his flakey strudel with Bavarian cream filling (a personal favorite). He also uses seasonal fruit fillings so look for raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, or the illusive huckleberry to make appearances in the sumptuous muffins and scones. Speaking of scones, you must try them, and at $1 they are half price and on par with what you'd find at a Starbucks or more upscale bake shop. All the quality and half the price, my kind of place! To some locals that are comparing the prices to the local supermarkets, ok it's a little more expensive, but you cannot compare these fresh baked, quality treats with a Rosauer's donut or packaged cookies. Plus, if you buy your pastries for your Sunday church socials from Angel, you are supporting and keeping your money in the local community. You are helping your parisioners/ neighbors and creating jobs in the Gorge - and saving in gas and bridge tolls! (yes, i'm talking to you Margaret, please don't let me eat another processed-sugar lard roll on my next visit!)

It's filled with essential oils, lotions, soaps, hair products, and natural deodorants - I swear by Crystal Rock Salt deodorant, have used for 35 years! Also vitamins, minerals, supplements, protein powders. And natural foods like peanut butter, keto friendly foods, lots of gluten free crackers, bread and bakery items, dairy free products, zero sugar added items (ice cream, juices, yogurt) and more. Of course it's pricy, as all healthy products are. Should be the other way around IMO! Since it's right inside Rosauers, it's very convenient to pick up specialty and specific items I need while doing other grocery shopping. Or just run in and out of Huckleberry's. Lots of parking right out front.

Remember--- Stay to your right once you get inside Rosauer's. Just keep going until you see the Natual/Organic section. Do not let your nose be deceived by the bakery smells that come from the other side of the store. It is NOT an Organic bakery...believe me, I've asked. They only use bleached flours and tons of artificial ingredients. Looks good, but it's FAKE! ewwwww.... The prices are kinda high, unless they have a sale going on. They have a decent selection of organics, but again, the prices are high. My secret on buying organic foods in Hood River... is "Safeway." Yes...Safeway has Organics at better prices. Shhhhhh...... They also have a nice organic produce section and other organic products scattered though out the whole store. Ya just gotta go searching for them sometimes...but it's worth the price.
