I love Fran's chocolate, I usually head to the downtown location but this one was closer to me today. This location is absolutely breathtaking! The building itself is historically beautiful, tall red brick exterior with a modernized industrial interior. It's very spacious inside, the chocolate counter is towards the right, and seating right beside it. Chocolates are delicious per usual. Service was phenomenal per usual. These make a perfect gift for chocolate lovers or holiday gifts, and they have plenty of flavors to choose from! I totally recommend the peppermint imperial, it's really good and only here during the holidays. Or the sea salt caramels, those are a safe classic here! read more

I recommend you to stop by this place when you come to Georgetown. I love the atmosphere inside the store and I like the large space. The parking is behind the building. The display in the store changes every season, and the wonderful wrapping is eye-catching. The staff is also pleasant and polite. I haven't been able to order drinks for a long time, but it's open now. I ordered hot chocolate with my hubby. We were intoxicated by the rich chocolate flavor and taste. Fran's Chocolates is all about diversity, innovation, and reproducible quality. They have a well-lit production facility you can see through windows. That said, it is all about taste. Fran's has many choices, and they have well curated gift boxes. They do special seasonal items, like a giant chocolate turkey in my photo. Others have posted Easter egg photos that look like sculptures, edible Faberge Eggs! I found them because they graciously hosted Japanese ikebana displays and DIY demonstrations, selfie opportunities with the flowers, and a show of Japanese lacquerware. They paired a selection of Japanese teas with a chocolate tasting. It was their supportive complement to the semi-annual Kyoto Art and Antiques event. Fran's has made beautiful use of the brewery building. There is a stunning two story spiral stair, an iron linear stair, sturdy iron columns, and the original windows. They have a long live-edge slab table with seating. There is an elevated viewing area for the production kitchen adults and children can enjoy. It is a beautiful brewhouse putting our current warehouses and factories to design shame! The space would be perfect for chocolate events. Come here for their smoked salt caramels... AKA Barack Obama's favorite chocolate caramel! I am really not a caramel lover, but Fran's smoked caramel has changed my mind. This is the best caramel I have ever had and I will never eat another caramel besides Frans. Anyways, I went with my family to the Fran's guided tasting experience. The tour guide was really knowledgeable and friendly. We got to try 4 or 5 different confections. The tour was only $10, so I think it was a great deal since I think an individual chocolate is at least $2. Had a gift card from Frans which was pending spend due to the pandemic. Finally got myself to visit their cute little Georgetown location. Thanks to Covid, they have displayed a their products upfront. They allow only one customer at a time. Hand sanitizers accessible, staff wearing masks and staying on the other side of the display table. Now coming to their products, since I am a huge dark chocolate fan, we picked every truffle that had dark chocolate in it - orange, raspberry, gray salted caramel, one with nuts, etc etc. trust me it was a tough choice to pick an assorted collection. We also grabbed a few coconut chocolate bars and pure bars. Everything we picked was delicious and no wonder they are a hige brand in the chocolate industry. Is there anything greater than Frans? If there is I haven't found it. My very favorites are the dark whiskey truffle and dark espresso truffle, but most of the dark truffles (oolong tea, pure dark, more ...) are pretty excellent. And of course the smoked salt caramels (I like the milk chocolate ones best, surprisingly) are famous for a reason. It's a $$ treat, but a very satisfying one. They had a lovely drinking chocolate too. But alas, due to COVID it's currently order online and pickup only. My family and I have been on all the chocolate tours locally and somehow we missed this one. Apparently they have been doing tours out of this location for a few years, but I have been out of the loop. For 10$ each you can learn all about the building, watch the employees make chocolate, maybe see Fran and do a tasting. These are done weekdays at 11am and super easy to sign up for via email. I was very impressed that they have 5 designated parking spots for visitors in the back of the building, making it great for my Dad who is recovering from a surgery. I'm in Georgetown all the time, but have never stepped foot in this building. I love how cool it is on the inside and the history behind it. I had no idea you could stop off here for some chocolate and coffee anytime they are open. You are likely to get a free sample when you walk in. What I liked most about the tour is that they are able to accommodate you with a vegan tasting upon request. I really loved the chocolate covered ginger. The fig options sounded quite unique as well. My Dad wasn't a fan of the prices, but I have a truffle loving friend and was happy to pick some up for her with a 10% discount after taking the tour. read more

I'm glad we came here because the Georgetown location is also where they make the chocolates. It's very cool that there's a viewing room where you can watch them make chocolates. Did I just step into a museum? No; I didn't. I came to the right place. Fran's Chocolates took the most dedicated approach in elevating "a chocolate's honor." How they showed their chocolate made me rethink what it means for a chocolate. I often think of them as a snack, but at Fran's I saw them as something to be respected. Ordering a box of chocolates reminded me being able to select my own macarons. It made me realize I haven't really experienced choosing my own chocolates. Aaaaah... Fran's Chocolates! Their gray salt caramels are to die for! And their double chocolate figs -- YUM! I can go on and on and on. Everything in their shop is delicious. You won't be disappointed. This shop is large with an industrial yet classy feel to it. The staff is always friendly and helpful. My last visit on Saturday, I picked up a 40-piece box of classic and gray salted caramels as a gift and a 20-piece gray salted caramel box as well as a 16-piece mixed box. They do sell a 10-year tawny port wine, which is quite decent. I usually drink port wines on its own but it goes quite well with their chocolates especially the the whiskey truffles. With a huge, long table in the rear of the store and an espresso bar tucked away in a corner, this facility also makes a great space for work/team building meetings. Even if you don't take the tour or hold a meeting here, you'll still be greeted by friendly faces and a chocolate sample. Fran's salted caramels are some of the best I've ever had. And if you love figs, when they're in season Fran's buys the freshest ones to make chocolate-dipped whole figs and smashed chocolate-dipped figs. If you love dark chocolate, try the truffles with macadamia nuts or the espresso truffles. There are also several classy gift boxes and a small selection of non-chocolate gifts to choose from. You can't go wrong with any of the chocolates here, and I have to send a special shout out to the associates who offer one of the highest levels of customer service of any chocolatier that I've patronized. When they were out of their seasonal fig confections, they offered to take my number down and call me when a new batch came in. And guess what? They actually followed through! Chocolate and customer service like this doesn't come cheap, but it definitely qualifies for a Treat Yo'self Day, so do it! If not for yourself, then for your sweetie, your mom, or that person you're trying to bribe for Lorde knows what. (Yes, I said "Lorde." She knows everything, doesn't she?) When Easter comes there's one place I go to find that special chocolate Easter egg. I came across the first one a couple years ago, before Covid. I picked it up for my nephew and drive it up to Whistler, BC so he could open it. This year I picked one up for my pastor's daughters, and to their delight they found six solid chocolate bunnies -- 2 white, 2 milk, 2 dark -- and six filled Easter eggs some milk chocolate some dark chocolate. The Ivory Filigree egg with father chocolate trim was simply beautiful with its own standing platform. It was packaged in clear plastic with schizzle and a green ribbon. The only thing that would improve it? Fran's creating a vegan version of the egg for some vegan friends with wonderful vegan kids who deserve the same delight. So I've made the request two years in a row now, to no avail yet. But I'll keep asking and still hope for the development. Maybe next year, Fran? read more

You can pick out specific ones (2.7-3$ each) or buy a box (30-50$) which contains maybe 15-20 pieces. The area itself is massive and largely just open space. There's also the factory where they build the chocolates on site in the back and you can sneak a view through the glass window. Everything is kept tidy to a T. They give you samples though! I am a huge fan of this place! Did you know that Fran was chosen as "the best overall chocolatier in the United States" by The Book of Chocolate? I didn't, until yesterday when I opened up my beautifully-wrapped box of assorted Fran's Chocolate Truffles and read "Fran's Story." I believe it!! From the moment you walk in to Fran's Chocolates Georgetown, everyone is so friendly and kind and the chocolates are so out-of-this-world yummy that it's hard not to be blissfully happy. One of the helpful staff members was talking with me about how much she loves the industrial vibe of this particular location, and I agreed! She said it would be her ideal choice for an apartment, and I joked with her about asking if she could just set up a bed in there and sleep in there at night. She laughed. In all seriousness though, the staff at this location is consistently very attentive and pleasant, and the vibe here is food for the soul. This location has very high ceilings, a smattering of brick throughout the walls, and gorgeous decor displays ~ from a huge vase filled with eye-popping lightly-golden foliage to the delightful spiral iron staircase that goes absolutely nowhere! There are very long tables, small square tables, and rows upon rows of fresh chocolates! The selection is fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised by the Caramel Heart - it is one of my favorite chocolate confections I've ever eaten. I loved the smooth, viscous, completely non-sticky texture of the caramel, and the taste is amazing! I went there yesterday with just my husband, but I attended a somewhat large Calligraphy Meet-Up there earlier this year, too (about 20 people total in attendance), and it's also a great place to go with a large group. The "Viewing Area" is super fun! You can walk into a little alcove in the back of the store and watch chocolates being made by people in white caps! On my previous visit here, I walked back into the alcove and a tall drink of water asked me if I'd ever seen the "I Love Lucy" chocolate episode that apparently is a classic. Yes, I'll admit I'm a dork. I was at Fonda La Catrina and Fantagraphics the same day Fran's in Georgetown opened on 9/29/14 and didn't stop in - so Richie D nailed it with his third point mentioned in his inaugural Yelp post. I've been a fan of Fran's since the days with her original Madison Valley shop and later toured her Capitol Hill production facility with my pastry class 15 years ago. Finally had an opportunity to stop in this afternoon on 10/8/14. Since this historic building and site was sold in 2001, this area has been the symbol of gentrification in Georgetown, the last of the historically hip, blue collar, and artistic urban village of Seattle. So it is welcoming to see the refurbished and restored Rainier Cold Storage breathes new life with the relocation of Fran's main operations from Capitol Hill to Georgetown. Very spare and retained a lot of the industrial feel. But of course, you're there for the fine chocolates! Whether it's drinking chocolate, individual chocolates or any of the beautifully wrapped boxes of chocolates with the signature bows - the consistent, high quality chocolates are nicely arranged to tempt you. Their product line is to be thoroughly enjoyed and savored. One sales associate kindly offered a complimentary caramel while I perused what else to buy (hazelnut and a dark chocolate truffle, $2.00 each), box of 7 gray salt caramels to be shipped to Iowa ($14), and of course, another larger box of 12 gray and smoked caramels for the family. No one ever says they've gone to Fran's and shows up empty handed back at home. After I signed the guest book, another sales associate enthusiastically showed me the viewing room of their production facility, which is now four times the square footage of their former Capitol Hill location. Big, bright, impeccably clean, nice production flow, and dedicated spaces (like all the tempering machines up front). This is important to me with my pastry and pharmaceutical QC microbiology background. I was told that consideration is being given towards future facility tours, clearly this is already on some mobile food tour destination judging from others in the shop. I'd say having Fran's associates available to answer questions is fine, especially before the early afternoon when production wraps up for the business day. If you want the nitty gritty about cacao beans, roasting and full chocolate production - go on the facility tours at the Theo production plant in Fremont. There's also well educated staff about chocolate regions and great drinking chocolate at Chocolopolis on upper Queen Anne. However, Fran Bigelow and her entire staff has consistently set the standard in artisan chocolates and is hands down one of the best establishments in the Pacific Northwest and US. This is a must-stop for any individual who celebrates high quality product. So now there's Fran's in Bellevue and in Seattle - University Village, downtown Seattle by the Seattle Art Museum, and the lovely brand new main operations in Georgetown (this site open Mon-Sat 10am - 6pm). wow, this is a beautiful space. It's right across from Fonda but I had never been inside. It was almost closing but the staff was accommodating. This is such a well-kept secret in Georgetown. I have been to the locations across from the SAM and in University Village, but was unaware there was a factory location until my friend Faith met me there last week. What a treat! When we first walked in we were given free raspberry filled chocolates. This must've been a special for Vday, as usually the greeter chocolate is the classic caramel with sea salt. All the same, it was wonderful. Then I had a cappuccino and Faith had the caramel latte. Both were completely satisfying. Each coffee also came with a piece of 66% cacao dark chocolate in the gold wrap. Classy! This location has viewing windows into the chocolate room, where little ladies are handmaking the chocolates we see so nicely packaged in the stores. I think the building used to house a bank or some commercial business. It is industrial with a lot of light - a great place to get cozy with a book. Parking was a breeze. I'd definitely recommend this place to any chocolate lover :) 5 stars might be a tad generous, but there really wasn't anything not to like! Pros: - Gorgeous, quiet, open space with a large long table and also maybe ten or so smaller two person tables to meet up with someone or get some work done over some chocolate and/or a drink (see photo for menu!). - Good selection of awesome chocolates! You can buy by the piece ($2 each) or there's prepackaged boxes as well. - There's a viewing room of the production facility! I love visiting Fran's, especially during the holidays. The shop is tucked away in the brick buildings of Georgetown and the shop decor inside is soo adorable. If you only get one thing from Fran's, get the sea salt caramel chocolates! It's by far their best chocolate and famous for a reason. The chocolate is perfectly thin on the outside and the caramel texture and flavor is well balanced. The gold bar is also a huge hit in my household and Food Network chef Bobby Flay said it's his favorite. It's literally a grown up version of an almond joy bar! During the holidays, I definitely recommend trying the peppermint imperial. It's the perfect peppermint chocolate bite. I want to give a special shout-out to the hard-working Vietnamese folk making the chocolates in the back. They are the reason we have these pretty and quality chocolates to eat! This is my favorite Fran's and where I take out of town guests. It's easy to get to and there's lots of free street parking. It's in this really cool warehouse and Fran's office is at the very top (you can't go up there but it's fun knowing the owner is there) On weekdays you can watch the factory workers through the windows making chocolate. It's usually nice and quiet so you could organise a meet up as they have a huge wooden conference table. Also the bathrooms are very clean and modern with Dyson hand dryers. read more

Local Georgetown resident, own a home a short walk from the shop. Wanted to get some prestige chocolates for my partner and shop local for Valentine's Day. I am a very obvious person of color, and I'm wearing a hoodie and jeans. All I wanted was to spend about $75 on chocolate. I never got more than five minutes to weigh my options without being asked if I "wanted help." First time, polite. Second time, awkward. Third time, annoying. Fourth time, when I had a few pieces of chocolate in my hand, and they got pushier, I call racism. I just gave up and gave them all I had to hold at the register for me so they'd leave me alone. Then I got my custom box done, paid for all my stuff, and left feeling completely humiliated in my own neighborhood. Georgetown is becoming a place of haves and have nots, and although I happen to be fortunate enough to be one of the haves, my appearance and skin color are enough to make me unwelcome at most of the new wine bars and places like this. I used to be a big fan of this chocolate but I never actually visited a shop. If I visit again, I think I'm just going to order in advance. Or order from somewhere else. I could eat Fran's candy every day and never get tired of it. From the orange confit to the signature salted caramel, my chocolate cravings are always met! Salted caramels are a simple concept where so many fail. Fran's has the proper balance of chocolate, salt, and caramel every time! The tas de noix is the chocolate of my dreams with a perfect macadamia nut mixed with chocolaty goodness. The orange confit is always perfect with a citrusy strip of orange expertly dipped in chocolate. The list goes on and on. If only all chocolatiers were as dedicated to their craft as Fran's the world would be a perfect place! This particular location is my favorite. The industrial feel of the brick and steel are the perfect contrast to the refined reputation of Fran's. The staircase to the roof makes you want to run over and climb it. The open concept is airy and welcoming. Plenty of space for everyone to wander around, have a cup of coffee, enjoy sweets, pretty much the perfect place. I always love coming here because of how aesthetic it is inside. The workers are always friendly and greet you with chocolates. They currently have their full cherry blossom tree displays and it makes for such a pretty photo opportunity. The chococlates are a bit pricey at about $2.50 per piece which is why I have a star docked along with their hot drinks they serve, but I do love the quality of their products and like to stop by once in a while for a little treat. read more

this location of fran's chocolates has saved my a** on more than one occasion! what i mean by that is that i've realized it's the perfect gift for someone and instead of hauling myself across town to u village or braving the downtown 1st ave location, i've driven effortlessly (and usually parked even more so!) to georgetown where i could just as easily sample their luscious chocolates and make my purchases with far less overall hassle. there's something about the wide open area of the industrial showroom in georgetown that appeals to me. it's not cramped, the employees are very friendly and there are always samples! make sure you peruse the case which also serves as the purchase counter because i took a fairly long time to arrive at a decision for some gifts on my first visit, only to realize upon arrival at the counter that i needed to reevaluate when presented with some additional options i hasn't yet seen in terms of the individual (not pre-boxed) chocolates. i will always go to this location for my fran's needs. luckily, i've had the willpower to just go for gift items and not for my own urges. so glad they opened this to the public and didn't just make it corporate office space. read more

Full disclaimer and I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but I'm not a chocolate fan- (gasps!) I know, I know. I was in town to visit my parents and I did some research to see what cool chocolateries were around and I read an article that mentioned Barack was obsessed over Fran's sea salt caramels. And, just like that SOLD. This location was closest to me, so I drove down, went in, was greeted with samples. I tried the famous caramel in milk chocolate- I love sweet and savory treats- must say at first glance they're small but they're really rich, I actually had to eat it in 2 bites. I also tried white chocolate truffle. If I was buying them personally, I would have gotten the white chocolate (like I said, I don't love chocolate) and maybe some other dark chocolates but I stopped by for a sure win crowd pleaser- and the sea salt milk and dark chocolate did the trick- all my coworkers- even the non chocolate lovers went for seconds. Aside from the chocolate- I also want to move into those location- this minimal brick loft space is to die for! Can't wait to come back next time to really pick out personal faves. read more
