10/22/2020 . This was our first time . Now its in a plaza and doesn't have much seating and is primarily just a take out place . Unfortunately they ran out of food at 7pm , they were out of mashed potatoes , fried oreos ,dark meat ,and ice tea even though we got the last remaining of tea we sure did want to order more . . The service was AMAZING and they were so nice and the food was very very good . We may go back again when they open in the morning just to order food we haven't tried as well as tea . We came down to Boca from Orlando and were looking for a great spot for lunch. We found itat Fran's, the chicken was phenomenal. My wife had the Fran's chicken sandwich, it had two pieces of fried chicken and was covered in Fran's sauce. It was humongous and delicious. My daughter had the chicken and waffle,; she said the waffle was the best she'd ever had. I had the three tenders meal with fries and cole slaw. The tenders were huge, easily the size of 2-3 tenders at your regular chain restaurant., and seasoned to perfection. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Boca. read more

Definitely doesn't look like much when you walk in or when you pass by it... But this hole in the wall has decent fried chicken! Note there is no seating inside so it's a to go spot for sure. What a great place for fried chicken! I have past this place for years but never went til today. I never even got to try it when i lived in boca. So since I had to drive to the area I decided to grab some dinner to go. I'm glad I made this choice and have to say it was tasty. Best fried chicken I can remember having. Nice and crispy but the meat was so tender it would slide off the bone. Got a white piece meal with mashed potatoes and gravy instead of fries. Couldn't hold back my excitement when I saw corn nuggets on the menu so I got those too. 5 out of 5 stars for the food but have 4 because the phone was off the hook so I couldn't place order ahead of time. They were busy and seemed overwhelmed a bit when I arrived. Maybe a shortness on staff or just a small work space that only so much is possible? I can't believe it's taken me so long to give Fran's the respect (and review) they deserve! I have been coming here for years now and I've never been disappointed at anything I've had off the menu. Back when FAU student's got 10% off for having student i.d., I think I was eating Fran's on a weekly basis. It's that good! A lot of people have yet to master the perfect crispy, fried and well seasoned chicken recipe but I think Fran's has figured it out in all areas including the hard to perfect cole slaw (yes, even the cole slaw is perfect)! They also have the right staff to bolster the customer service you'd expect from a southern style restaurant. Everyone is welcoming, even at their busiest of times when the line reaches the door and all the booths are full. The staff continues to make efforts to welcome everyone and ensure that the food is as expected. I always get the 2-piece dark meal which comes with a small cole slaw, a side, and Hawaiian biscuit roll. The rolls are small so sometimes I get greedy and get extra. The sweet tea is the perfect match for this combo and if you're wanting a dessert they have deep fried Oreo's to top off your cardiac arrest. This place gets five stars because the chicken is incredible. Although, the app to order looks like it was made in 1999, items are missing in the app, they don't answer the phone, and Kevin is definitely on drugs. They only gave me one of the sauces I ordered. Luckily I didn't really need the sauce because the chicken was so good. I got the mashed potatoes with gravy because the bowl isn't available on the app. Or chicken tenders. Which is really weird. When I go back I'll just order in person and wait in my car. It's small inside and Kevin seems to be prone to tantrums. After a disappointing visit years ago I decided I wouldn't go back to Fran's. However, I pass it daily and because the current Fran's is now a different owner then when I tried it last - I gave it another shot. The first problem was when I arrived home and realized they forgot to put in the Fran's Sauce and this after I tipped them. The chicken was better quality than most take out places and had a cleaner fresher taste but I didn't care for the coating and it did nothing to enhance the chicken. Fries were basic and boring. Last night I drove by 'Fran's Chicken Haven' in its full neon glory. I think to myself 'That's the place for f-ing chicken.' I was greeted with 'Get on in here, be right with you.' This is a carry-out style place with limited seating, however, there was a line. In my excitement, I overlooked the normal menu, so asked for a recommendation. I'm told the Fran-which is the most popular. It's a fried chicken sandwich... buttered bun, spicy mayo, pickles and house sauce. Nothing to write home about right? So I thought... The Fran-Sauce, I feel, is this buffalo inspired with a BBQ fusion that is toying with a Thai spicy, yet still in a leauge of its own. The fries are more home style cut and are the right amount of crispy; not at all overly salted. The portion was more than enough for the price point. Over all: Before walking into what can be considered a 'hole in the wall' - I didn't know what to expect, but definitely didn't expect that. I had high hopes and the Fran staff delivered! The guys who work here have such great personalities. Great service. They will make you laugh. The chicken is burn the roof of your mouth hot and fresh. My gizzards were a little too salty but that's probably just a personal bias. I love that they serve Dr. Brown's sodas, well in particular root beer. I love root beer! The sauce options I had were quality. The spicy bbq and buffalo. If you want extra ranch they do charge for it but it's only $.45. It's nothing to complain about. The best Fried Chicken in South Florida! This place is an institution with tons of history plus a very laid back vibe. And the staff is always up for some good conversation and you can tell are passionate about making their customers feel welcome. Small piece of old Florida w/ the local side of East Boca which in my opinion is the true Boca. Moved as far West in Boca as you can get to get away from all the new building! No big deal, just a guy who happens to think fried chicken is the greatest creation aside from man himself, walking into a place that has made a name for themselves whipping up fried chicken for over 50 years. Fran's is historic at this point. This minimalist space packs in the locals, with promises of Boca Raton nostalgia. Fran's still hangs the original menu from 1964. Imagine this if you will: 4 pieces of chicken, 2 sides, and roll, for $1....Total. Welcome to 1964. Now snap back to reality where the same meal will run you close to $10, circa 2018. 2018 isn't all that bad....there was no yelp in 1964! FOOD As far as the chicken goes, I wish I could say it blew me away, but pretty decent was more of my feeling. Certainly some things I can appreciate, like the freshness and the juiciness. I like my chicken a little on the salty side, while you can taste the hint of sugar added to Fran's batter. All the textural elements are present, but it simply doesn't stand out flavor wise. Opted for a side of fries and the Mac and cheese bites. Really cool concept with the Mac bites, breaded and deep fried to fork sort of a Mac and cheese nugget. As for the fries, they are pretty forgettable. Overall, it's great that Fran's has stood the test of time, going pretty much unrivaled in the community up to this point. We've been coming here forever -- since the original owners and the subsequent owners. Luckily the chicken and other items are still as good as ever. Couldn't believe I hadn't ever done a review. My go to meal was the 2-piece white chicken combo which is one breast and one wing piece. It comes with a small slaw and your choice of side. I sometimes get fries which are okay, but the best side is the mashed potatoes and gravy. Add on an extra side of more chicken gravy, of course! My husband got this meal tonight. Couldn't believe how big the breast piece was. The chicken was tender inside and perfectly battered and fried on the outside. I stole a few tastes. The mashed has bits of red skins in them. And it was a bit peppery for me, but still so good. For my dinner tonight, I chose the half chicken livers and half gizzards platter. I added on an order of cole slaw -- I really like their slaw -- not too much mayo and just a bit sweet and nicely crunchy. Plus a corn muffin which is sweet enough to be dessert. When Tony delivered the tray, it was heaped full. He explained that he's a little heavy handed in his cooking. That's an understatement as I have enough leftovers for two more meals. I seen every1s pics for this place and looked amazing so I went for some takeout yesterday, we were super hungry and I didn't even take pics once I got home but let me start by saying The crispy most juiciest fried chicken ever, I've ate to roscoes fried chicken, Lady & sons(Paula deans) I've eaten to gus fried in Tennessee This is by far the best chicken ever I also had there lemon pepper chicken wings that were big and juicy as well, there buffalo sauce was really good on the fried chicken. For desert they even have deep fried Oreos and twinkies which were great as well. Very clean inside I expected to be a dirtier little joint but actually super clean and neat inside and she's super busy sometimes I've noticed a line outside when passing. Who knew Boca Raton had any soul food spots, let alone THE BEST fried chicken around! I was pleasantly, gleefully surprised to find this amazing gem in a strip mall plaza. Apparently Fran's has been around since 1964 in the same location serving up juicy, perfectly crispy, and well seasoned fried chicken and bomb ass sweet tea (with free refills). Seems like the most popular things here are the chicken and waffles (what I ordered) and the loaded mash bowl (brother ordered). I can't rave enough about the fried chicken, but the waffle was an equally delicious, well made accompaniment. Usually restaurants serving fried chicken and waffles gets one or the other wrong, lacking flavor somewhere, one item always outshining the other, but the cook here really knows what he's doing, not to mention being very friendly and helpful. The loaded mash bowl has chicken tenders, corn nuggets, mashed potatoes, bacon bits all smothered in gravy - the perfect cure for a hangover. My brother loved it and we demolished both plates. They also have combos and specials for affordable prices if you're trying to feed a group of hungry people. Ambience- very small restaurant with only a few tables and some high top stools playing old school R&B tunes. Yelpers, check Fran's out and show them some love. My favorite food of ALL time is fried chicken!!! I love fried chicken!!! So I was so hyped about this place when I first came. I've been here a few times and the chicken is fantastic sometimes and ok others. The batter and crisp on the chicken, I found, was ALWAYS on point, though! Sometimes the flavor doesn't go all the way through the chicken, so it's like boiled chicken when I get past the batter, but when it is flavored all the way through SO good. The service is good!!! The man taking my order is very nice but in a quiet way (idk how to describe it, you gotta experience it for yourself)... he has a very stoic expression and looks rather mean, but he's super nice (don't be afraid!) he's even given me an extra piece of chicken before (y'all know I ate all 3 pieces of dark meat and French fries all by myself that day -- no regrets). The place is really small and i think it's better as a waiting area rather than a dine in place. So make sure you're ordering and going! Will be back!!! Popped in here lunch today and had an excellent meal. We went with the breast and wing combo with mashed potatoes and gravy, as well as coleslaw. They give you a roll as well. Everything tasted excellent. The chicken has a good amount of breading on it and is very crunch but juicy inside. The mashed were super creamy and the coleslaw was creamy and sweet. The roll was good for dipping in the gravy. Staff were friendly and Tony at the front was very helpful and always asking if we needed anything. We will definitely be back for more chicken! read more
