I've been on a Lexington Donut tour and visited Franks Donuts this weekend after hearing a lot of buzz about it. I tried the chocolate cream filled long john, chocolate twist, and blueberry cake donut. Being that chocolate filled long johns are one of my favorite donuts, this one unfortunately was not for me. I've never had a cream filled donut with the type of cream that they use, which is almost like a slightly thicker whipped cream. The chocolate twist was a pretty good basic donut but didn't blow me a way. However, the blueberry cake donut, which is probably my favorite kind, was so delicious. The sugary edges were so crispy, and the flavor was great. As for prices, Franks is probably on the less expensive side and seemed very reasonable. read more

I have followed Frank's Donuts ever since I can remember. I use to visit the one in Winchester, KY. When this one popped up on Third Street in Lexington, I was so excited. This is my go to donut shop. If you have favorite items, I suggest you get there pretty early in the morning. You know what they say...The early bird gets the best donuts. LOL! The staff is always friendly and kind. Their drive thru line moves really quickly since all of their delicious donuts take so long to prepare. I can't get enough of their Bear Claws and Blueberry Donuts. The Bear Claws sell out really fast. I am told that they do however freeze well if you wanna stock up next time you get there and they have a good supply of them. These donuts are so soft and fluffy. I can't get enough of them. Other favorites are the strawberry croissant and their apple fritter. Next time you are near Third Street and wanting to get some sweet treat. Stop on by here. You will not regret this ever. I went for a walk and decided to stop on the way back home . I've never had a donut from here so it was the perfect opportunity to stop. They do have their own parking lot as well as a drive through window. They do not have a public restroom. There are a couple of tables to sit at it you choose to stay . They also have a cold case with drinks like milk and such. The store itself was clean and well lit, the display cases were clean and crumb free. They don't have a huge selection but what I saw looked really good. I ended up with the bear claw for 1.27 and that included tax. I have to say you definitely get your money's worth with the bear claw, I took mine home to share . I really liked it even half of one was more then enough, The girls at the counter are more then friendly enough. If you plan on using a debit or credit card beware that you have to spend 3.00 or more in order to pay for your purchase. read more

Delicious donuts with family friend service. Opens at 4:30AM but came at 5. The donuts were just starting to come out so if you gotta go into work early (like me), make sure you time it right! There's a wide variety (probably more once the day picks up) and the donuts are made fresh in house. The cake donuts particularly have a nice density to it without being dry at all. I am not sure why any donut store in the world would only sell their cake donuts un-iced, but this is that spot. Their cake donuts are just plain. No icing. (What???) BOO. That being said, their cinnamon rolls and apples fritters are delicious. But they really have a pretty small assortment of donuts - it is strange considering how huge the building is. They also have drive-through which surprisingly is super difficult to use. The volume is so low and/or the staff don't speak loud enough for you to hear them through the speaker system. Unless you are just ordering whatever random dozen they want to put together and you aren't picky about what you get, then you probably need to head inside to see what is available. I'm pretty bummed this place doesn't have a better selection of donuts - it is right on my way to work and would be SO easy. But now that I have tried to order here a couple times and not been able to get what I wanted (even first thing in the morning), I think I am over it. Too bad. read more

Online it says they open at 4:30 but every time I go around 6 they never have donuts ready. I place my order and I'm told, we're out or don't have that. Maybe instead of making twists donuts or etc they can spend time getting the regular donuts out. One time I went and passed 2 women workers in the front of the store. They had me just sitting at the drive thru no one said anything. I finally called inside and I was told "we're closed" Someone could've at least came on the mic to say that.
