We had such a beautiful time with Funships! We booked our tour ahead of time and spent a wonderful hour on the boat, chatting with the staff, sipping wine, and enjoying perfectly paired chocolates. We were honestly shocked by how much was included! Our experience included: -An hour-long boat ride -5 wine tastings paired with 5 mini chocolates -1 full glass of wine of our choice (or other options listed on the boat) -2 additional tastings in their wine room, where we could try wines that weren't offered on the boat -Plus a souvenir wine glass to take home! The staff was wonderful, the experience was so relaxing, and there were so many little extras that made it feel truly special. We would definitely do this again! Note: I seen many people complain about the walk down to the boats. If you simply ask, they can pick you up from another location. & Remember, this is a small establishment. Stopped in on my way elsewhere and didn't realize it was a boat tour wine tasting. I was asked if I wanted to go on a boat and then told they were sold out and it wasn't possible anyway. Not a big deal, I wasn't aware that was their thing. Started a wine tasting inside and it was very chaotic and rushed due to the staff trying to get the boat tour going. Wines were fine, but not my favorite in the area. I would skip next time unless scheduling a boat tour ahead of time. read more

Today was my first visit to Frankenmuth, but my companion has been here many times. She recommended the Funships tour, and I'm so glad we went!! We had Captain Mark and Emma as our guides. They made the trip very fun and interesting. The boat seating was comfortable and we had a table. Captain Mark knew the area well and provided interesting facts the whole trip. Emma poured a variety of wines and provided a different chocolate with each one for pairing. We had 5 pairings, plus a full glass of the wine we liked best!! AND THEN we were given two more samples ashore. The 13 year old was given grape juice with chocolates on the boat, so he was not excluded at all. This is an activity for adults and is also kid-friendly. Of course, we bought 4 bottles of delicious wine and 2 1/2 pound boxes of chocolates. We got a nice carrying bag for the wine. This is a definite "must do" activity when visiting Frankenmuth, MI!! read more

Every time we come here, we just missed the tour or we do not have time to do one! We have decided that next time we go, we have to go on the river boat. This is such a fun place with a few souvenirs and a cheap chocolate, wine, or chocolate with wine tasting. Finally, everyone was over the age of 21, so we did the wine and chocolate. I actually do not like to drink at all. I decided to try a sip or two of each. Basically the whole time was a fun and exciting experience. We laughed and tried each other's wine. I would give my leftovers to my boyfriend to give him a buzz, which was fun. He was being silly the entire time, so it made the experience worthwhile. I loved that it was also so cheap. The chocolates were yummy though. The best part is that they let you choose the last 2 wines. So each of us chose a different one, so that everyone could try something different. It is a pretty fast experience. The lady with us explained each wine, how it tasted, where it was from, and the price as a reminder. The price was on the little menu as well. You got a dry erase marker to choose what you wanted. After the experience, my sister bought the peach wine because they love peaches and loved the wine. There was so many different tastes. The wine is also really cheap, so you can get a bottle to enjoy at home, taking the experience with you. We would love to do the tasting again with a few more people next time. read more

The wine and chocolate boat ride was great. Upon arrival park in the distillery parking lot, it's right next to the Funships building. Captain Jack was an excellent tour guide, he was fun and informative. The boats are small but there's enough room for a group of 10, l got lucky and it was just the two of us so the tour was private. The tour lasted about a hour, on the boat you try 5 samples of wine that are paired with chocolate. Then you get a cup or your favorite wine. After the tour you try another two smallest from a list of wines. The bottles are affordable and there's a 4/$40 deal so take advantage. read more

Recently we did the Wine and Chocolate tour. It sounded like a fun way to enjoy a day, but we left hoping for something more. For starters, it's mostly sweet and fruity wines - which you probably can figure, given it's paired with chocolate. Just be advised, in case you prefer drier wines like me. They have their own chocolateur that comes weekly. Sure, chocolates were good. Nothing special that I cared to buy in their tiny shop. The boat was clean and comfortable for the most part. Not sure what they do for people with special needs as you do have to climb down several flights of stairs to get to their dock (FYI) Unfortunately, that's where it ended for us... If I had to guess, our boat driver wasn't even old enough to drink yet...spoke so fast it was hard to understand, and what I could understand him saying, it wasn't much...would've liked more commentary on the wines, the chocolates....the river...the town...? Some history? A joke? A story? Music or something to listen to? Cheese and crackers? Anything? It was a bit boring at times...the river isn't exactly the most beautiful thing to stare at in my opinion. Finally, after spending ~$200 in their shop, the girl behind the counter answers their phone, rolls her eyes, then waves us off (as in "get out of here"), without saying Thank You. I was shocked how rude she was. Young, perhaps, but old enough to know better when dealing with customers. That or the owner(s) are clueless. Maybe we caught them on an off day, or COVID changed it, but I can't say I'll recommend or will return anytime soon. One and done! To summarize I would recommend: (1.) improve the boat experience by adding something - a story, an audio tour, some cheese, commentary or anything to make it even better. (2) retrain your staff and remind them to ALWAYS say Thank You to customers! read more

This place was pretty cool. Going at the end of November, we didn't take a boat trip because it was quite cold, but you can still do wine tastings in the main building. Super cheap! 6 wines with chocolate pairings for $5!! They pick 4 wines and you pick 2. The staff was knowledgeable, informative, nice and provided recommendations for dinner. Wine & chocolate river tour:$25 = worth it. Something different & fun to do in Frankenmuth besides shop & eat chicken. With so many restrictions these days it was fun to do something interactive for adults (Though they do offer cider & there's always the chocolate for anyone under 21). Alex was an amazing captain/server. Explained the samples & pairings very well. He also did a great job pointing out some of the different landmarks along the tour. Great balance of engaging & just letting us relax & enjoy the scenery. Pure dumb luck for MI weather, not too cold but could enjoy those beautiful MI fall colors. All the chocolates are hand made & delicious with so many more amazing options to purchase in the store. Loved all the ones sampled also. There was one dry wine that we sampled but most wines are sweet (probably to go better/chocolate) so if you're a dry person you may not like all the wines but it is still a great experience. We took the one hour long river tour with wine and chocolate tasting. Fun and relaxing

Spent a fantastic afternoon on the lower patio just feet from the river. The service and staff were super friendly and domestic beer is better priced here than anywhere on Main Street. Every person on every tour we talked too when they returned had a blast. I would recommend t the patio bar as we enjoyed it so much we plan to return several more times this summer. Eric who we met and took care of us was super friendly and knew everything about the town, his location, and the river.
