This is well worth the price!!

Today was my first visit to Frankenmuth, but my companion has been here many times. She recommended the Funships tour, and I'm so glad we went!! We had Captain Mark and Emma as our guides. They made the trip very fun and interesting. The boat seating was comfortable and we had a table. Captain Mark knew the area well and provided interesting facts the whole trip. Emma poured a variety of wines and provided a different chocolate with each one for pairing. We had 5 pairings, plus a full glass of the wine we liked best!! AND THEN we were given two more samples ashore. The 13 year old was given grape juice with chocolates on the boat, so he was not excluded at all. This is an activity for adults and is also kid-friendly. Of course, we bought 4 bottles of delicious wine and 2 1/2 pound boxes of chocolates. We got a nice carrying bag for the wine. This is a definite "must do" activity when visiting Frankenmuth, MI!!

The wine and chocolate boat ride was great. Upon arrival park in the distillery parking lot, it's right next to the Funships building. Captain Jack was an excellent tour guide, he was fun and informative. The boats are small but there's enough room for a group of 10, l got lucky and it was just the two of us so the tour was private. The tour lasted about a hour, on the boat you try 5 samples of wine that are paired with chocolate. Then you get a cup or your favorite wine. After the tour you try another two smallest from a list of wines. The bottles are affordable and there's a 4/$40 deal so take advantage.

Every time we come here, we just missed the tour or we do not have time to do one! We have decided that next time we go, we have to go on the river boat. This is such a fun place with a few souvenirs and a cheap chocolate, wine, or chocolate with wine tasting. Finally, everyone was over the age of 21, so we did the wine and chocolate. I actually do not like to drink at all. I decided to try a sip or two of each. Basically the whole time was a fun and exciting experience. We laughed and tried each other's wine. I would give my leftovers to my boyfriend to give him a buzz, which was fun. He was being silly the entire time, so it made the experience worthwhile. I loved that it was also so cheap. The chocolates were yummy though. The best part is that they let you choose the last 2 wines. So each of us chose a different one, so that everyone could try something different. It is a pretty fast experience. The lady with us explained each wine, how it tasted, where it was from, and the price as a reminder. The price was on the little menu as well. You got a dry erase marker to choose what you wanted. After the experience, my sister bought the peach wine because they love peaches and loved the wine. There was so many different tastes. The wine is also really cheap, so you can get a bottle to enjoy at home, taking the experience with you. We would love to do the tasting again with a few more people next time.

$5 tasting for 6 samples, just go try it. You get a free glass with it if you choose the option to pick your own wines...Otherwise you can select the option for wine and chocolate and they pick 5 and you pick 1. Worth it. Cute shop. We both ended up buying 2 wines.

This place was pretty cool. Going at the end of November, we didn't take a boat trip because it was quite cold, but you can still do wine tastings in the main building. Super cheap! 6 wines with chocolate pairings for $5!! They pick 4 wines and you pick 2. The staff was knowledgeable, informative, nice and provided recommendations for dinner. The only thing I wish there was more of was more of a shopping area to pick up a few things. That was severely lacking.

The salad was just okay. Definitely not a traditional caprese because there was not a speck of basil or balsamic glaze in sight. Also served with cucumbers. The chicken was lacking in flavor and a small portion. Also, the menu completely had caprese spelled incorrectly. I feel if you call yourself a bistro you should at least be aware of the correct spelling of food you serve. The crab Mac n cheese was good, however the kitchen completely forgot to add the ritz Parmesan crust that the menu listed. I was able to get a side of it and mix it in at least. The menu also listed a side of coleslaw which I never received. Now for the bad. We had a reservation and the service was soooo slow. I understand being short staffed, etc but it was frustrating. Gratuity was added to our bill since we had a larger group, however the server took the itemized receipts upon returning our cards. This felt sketchy because you were prompted to tip on your card with the receipt you needed to sign and leave with the waitress. If you hadn't read your initial bill she left you wouldn't have any idea that a tip was already added. Luckily I noticed so I was able to inform my fellow guests. Also, there is a 3% credit card fee added to your bill if you pay with a card. Seems a little outdated and like a money grab. Overall, I'd probably not go out of my way to come back. Felt like a lot of hype for little return which was disappointing. This seemed like my kind of spot. Nonetheless it's an hour away from my home as it is.

Their pizza is yummy, and the vineyard vibe is charming. There are animals to pet, wide open views, and it's right on their property but designed in a way that still feels like a public space. I wanted to keep loving this place. I really did. But the energy has completely shifted. I've been here multiple times now, and every single experience with the owners has left me feeling tense and unwelcome. The final straw came after a couple of situations that made it clear this place is no longer what it used to be. One time, my son climbed onto a tractor that was left completely open. No signs. No fencing. And the keys were literally in the ignition. I was already walking over to get him down when the owner came out and screamed at me. No grace, no calm explanation, just full-volume yelling in front of everyone. I was mortified. It shook me up for the rest of the day. Another time, we were just a few minutes early and waiting by the entrance, not bothering anyone, just sitting in the car. Again, she came out yelling, like we had broken some rule by showing up early. And then, the husband. I watched him get belligerent with another guest. He was mocking him loudly and making a scene in front of other people. It was really uncomfortable to witness. No matter what the situation was, that is not how you treat paying customers. I don't know what happened here. Maybe as the place got more popular, the stress got to them. But somewhere along the way, they seem to have lost the heart for hospitality. I never write reviews like this, but I'm sharing it because this place has so much potential. It used to feel like a happy little secret. Now it just feels heavy. To the owners, I truly hope you hear this for what it is. You've built something beautiful. People want to come here and enjoy what you've created. But you cannot treat guests like this and expect them to keep coming back. I hope one day the warmth returns. I really do. But until that happens, I won't be back.

I get it, same longitude and wines should grow similar and all that jazz, but Michigan wines outside of the sweeter styles really never taste right to me. Well whatever they are doing here is nothing short of scientifically brilliant. Probably some of the best MItten Vino I have ever had and that assessement is from traveling all around the state and trying different areas. The Frontenac, Petite Pearl, Marquette were my favorites by far. But my five stars isn't for the wine, it's for the sheer joy this place brings me. Absolutely beautiful campus with sheep and goats and a big white furball of a dog who looks so adorable but is trained to kill any possible threat to his wards. The large barn event space and indoor seating is nothing short of gorgeous and of course sitting outside is just pure joy. I will add more pics as I come across them.
