Very frustrating experience. I brought my car in for a noise issue and was charged $1,400 to replace a wheel bearing. The noise was still there. I brought it back and was charged another $1,100, and again was told the issue was fixed. It wasn't. Two days later I took the car to Southside Auto and they diagnosed the real problem within 10 minutes -- the right-side wheel bearing. This also meant that parts were replaced at the first garage that did not need to be replaced to resolve the original noise issue. They also pointed out a dented rotor on the right side that was causing a loud noise when braking. When I tried to discuss this with Angelo and asked about a partial refund, my concerns were dismissed. After spending about $2,500, the original issue was never properly diagnosed here. After a major muck up by the Toyota dealership on Dufferin they offered me a free tire swap (winter/summer), fluid top up, and maintenance package. At the end they recommended I replace one front control arm bushings and rear trailing arm bushings. Estimate $1400. I took it to Joe at Malfara and he quotes me a little over HALF what Toyota wanted, so I left my car with him. He calls me an hour later to say there is zero reason to be replacing the bushings. Some normal wear and tear, but he's tested them and there was zero give. I pick up my car and he refuses to charge me anything even though they did a thorough suspension inspection - tells me to bring my car back when there's something actually wrong with it. As usual, my choices in where to go are greatly informed by distance and convenience. This spot is just down the street from where I live. I dropped my car off for an oil change and it was ready only an hour later, despite the fact that this is a really small place and the bays were already full. They told me that I could pick it up after work, but I got the Hubster to get it. The damage, $40, which is great considering I've paid $60 to get an oil change on this car before (damn imports and their expensive oil filters!) We both found the service to be prompt, professional and friendly. As long as I live here, I'll be happy to bring my car in for oil changes, drive clean tests and other minor stuff. read more

Complete waste of money..... came here with a problem with one vehicle and the owner convinces me to purchase one from him instead because the time and cost of the repairs. Me not being fluent at all with cars at all gave into the pressure and persuasion of this crook !! He then sells me a piece of garbage that had transmission issues just days after my purchase AND refused the warranty that he signed and issued himself ...... I take responsibility for the fact that I didn't do my research or source other shops but this man has a way of convincing and conning you!!! The real rating would be zero. I live in the area, and I thought having a mechanic close by would make my life easier. However these guy have Refused my business twice now, No idea why. they said they were busy and then hung-up on me over the phone, as well as yelled at me exiting their shop. I was very polite and non confrontational. I was very surprised when they reacted that way. Iam thinking they had no idea how to fix my issue which seemed To be a simple fix, for anyone; even someone with limited knowledge of cars. I might even fix this myself now. That being said, I wouldn't even get my oil changed here, for fear they will burnout my engine. I would rather go an hour out of the city then to have my car potentially ruined. Stay away. read more

This place is right around the corner from me. It's true it can be a bit chaotic at times, but having a garage be busy isn't really a bad sign- it means they have a lot of repeat customers. I've found Joe to be straightforward, honest and completes work at a good price point. I've never had any issues at this gas station, usually very professional and friendly, however today Saturday July 4th around 9am the man (older slender build) who served my (white) pick up truck was incredibly rude, nasty and a bold-faced liar. I asked him to please fill half a tank of gas, he filled it to the top (over $100) without asking me first. I paid for the gas but when I asked for an explanation his excuse kept changing. He first told me Straight to my face lying thay I said full tank of gas which I never did then he said he doesn't know how to put a half tank of gas (he could have let me know if that was even true). I told him he was a liar, a thief and very rude because he kept yelling and told.me.he would call the police. I am very sure that if I was a man that man would never have yelled and threatened me like that. Hope this man is fired. read more

WATCH OUT. They charged me $400 to fix a power steering leak witch they changed 2 hoses and filled the system with steering fluid ( when they give me the quote for the fix I asked if that solve the problem so I ask them to go on with the fix) . 4 days after they "fix it " while I was driving I start losing the power steering, I went there to complain and they say that they need to change the power steering pump and I had to pay more $300 and I complain coz they were supposed to fix it at the first time. In a very un respectful way the manager reply loud IT'S NOT OUR FAULT WE CHANGED THE HOUSES ....IT'S YOUR F******PROBLEM... IF YOU WANT US TO FIX IT IT'S GONNA BE $300. I just left coz I was getting really angry for the situation and for the lack off respect of this person. Just to let u guys know that I went to check the price of both hoses at Canadian tire that week and it was less then $45 both. read more

I have had numerous cars serviced over the years and I finally hit the jackpot for a garage. Had numerous problems fixed this week for a fraction of what I would expect. People who have rated this business poorly have done so because the owner "yells". He is a PERFECTIONIST. That happens to be what I want in an auto mechanic. Clear, no nonsense, no overselling. He called me before commencing anything, as promised. Here are two tips: make a written list of the problems and secondly thank him and the staff for their work. 100% recommended. read more

i always go to the shop that is in burlington and seeing as there is now burlington listed ill post here. Usually the nephew runs the show. Today I got frank. i explained to him that on sat i left the lights on in my 02chv tracker ...after boosting it and driving home the car would stall when at a stand still.... i told him that i had had work done on the car at his shop in the past and that 1 of the things was a new alternator...he asked if i had the receipt and i said i dint but it should be in the computer under my service history.....ya right lol...they do not keep any records of service. fine....i leave the car , 2 hours later he calls to tell me that he ran diagnostic on the battery .alt and started and they all came back fine,,,,silence, im like ok now what? he says well he isnt going to charge for the test but if he has to go any further he will have to charge me? im like ok. when did i ever say dont charge me? then he says well if you have a friend maybe i should take it there!?! so you dont want to fix my car? i tell him to just leave it then and ill come get it when i go to pick it up, i ask him do you think the issue could be the carbon build up or a vacuum? he gets really irritated with me and again tells me to go to my friend who is giving me all this good advice. im like but sir...is my car safe to drive? i drive alot and im a single female and i dont want to risk being broken down somewhere. and not to mention that ive had 1000s of dollars of work done here in the past so what made you think i didnt want to pay for my proper service? he starts yelling and walking away from me!! this guy is a maniac not a business man at all. He is rude and not knowledgeable at all. My girlfriend has had a similar experience at this shop as well....blatant disregard for the customer. It's true Joe Malfara is a hothead. Frank I believe was the father who's not around. Joe does yell, a lot. But both my husband and I have had our cars serviced here for over 10 years and his is the most honest service station I've been too. So, if you can't stomach yelling don't go. He mostly yells at his employees. I'm always polite and have never had a confrontation and he's never yelled at me. Terrible customer service! I went to get gas, it was going to rain and I had already bought windshield wipers, had them in my car, so I thought I might as well get them installed here before I go to work. I asked the gas guy (who is very nice), referred me to ask his Boss at the front desk about the price and installation. I asked the "BOSS" nicely, he was counting his money and looked ANNOYED and replied rudely telling me to park it to the side and he'll get someone to install it for me. I said, "Ok, thanks", paid the nice gas guy and left instead of staying and for paying for unwanted business. If he doesn't want my business, he could just tell me so, doesn't have to be so rude. The guys who work there seem really competent and the service is fast but the guy at the desk who I assume is the owner Frank hums and haws at every customer, yells at people on the phone and is obviously stressed out to the point where he makes customers feel like they are a burden to him. Really off putting when people just want to give you their business and you scoff at having to do work. I feel bad for all his employees. I've been there 10x and this was the case every time. Went in to get engine coolant. My car only takes a certain brand and they didn't have any in stock. He insisted that engine coolants work on all cars. I told him that I've gone through this before and my car really only takes this brand. At this point he walks away from me. I went inside after him and said, "If you are certain then I will go ahead and use it." Two days later the engine coolant light comes on again. I check it and it is empty. I returned to his shop and asked for a refund. He started to yell and swear all kinds of expletives at me for even suggesting it. I informed him that there is this new thing called the internet where people can rate their experiences and that my critic of his service would not be favorable. He did not like that idea and started yelling even louder. Avoid this place at all costs. Most people who give him business are going to be from the neighbourhood, as am I, but really don't give him any business. Frank Malfara is an awful excuse for a human being. read more
