I really love the whole concept and atmosphere of this cafe, it feels cozy and full of charm. The staff was really friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Service like this always makes a place memorable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and fresh. Everything tasted homemade and high quality. And the coffee was excellent too! If you're visiting Pacific Grove or Monterey Peninsula and looking for a cozy breakfast spot with great food, amazing coffee, and wonderful service, I highly recommend Red House Cafe. Definitely a place I would happily come back to again and again.

The server kept looking distracted and even spilled some water on my daughter and didn't apologize- although again I don't think he even noticed. Potato leek soup was delicious- prob should have only ordered that. Chicken quesadilla was served with salsa on the side but again, was already partially spilled. Chicken tasted...too uncooked. My daughter did like her salmon tartine. My husband ate the meatballs but it wasn't anything special. At some point they got food deliveries and it was unprofessional how they discussed the delivery person. No one asked us how the food was or if we needed anything. Definitely the worst meal and dining experience of our vacation.

Hey there Party People…read more The Butter House is a place that is unassuming and has that neighborhood diner feel. It should be featured on Guy Fiery's "Diners Drive-ins and Dives" The place is always packed so we joined the "wait list" online while we were driving in When we got to the restaurant we only had to wait 5 minutes. Our waiter Cesar was great, very personable as well as efficient. The food came out quickly and was paced well since we had an appetizer. Started with the Lumpia which is basically a Philippino style egg roll. Super delicious and very large so you only need to order one trust me. I had the Carne Asada Fried rice. Their Verde sauce was nice and tangy. The meat was seasoned very well and there was a ton of it on the rice. I great dish I would order again. Hubby had the French Dip sandwich. He said the bun was nice and soft and the sandwich was wonderful. The meat was very lean, which he is very picky about. The fries were off the hook just crunchy enough and not over salted. If you're in Monterey and looking for a great breakfast to get your day started this is the place to go. Be kind to one another

Staff was super friendly and kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. I got butter fried rice with pork belly, which was really good!! I just wish the pork belly was less salty but other than that, I was content with my order. My partner loved his omelet order as well. The egg was buttery and fluffy. Parking was easy too, either inside the plaza or street parking.

Every dish felt personal. We chose to dabble in the 3 course menu in hopes to maximize our experience and it delivered! Chef Michael is truly a visionary and brought us an experience we will not forget. The tide tumbled oysters with pomegranate granita is the best I've ever had. The texture and flavor were pinnacle to anything else I've had thus far. My other half does not even like oysters and was proud to be able to enjoy them, and that was just the beginning... please do yourself a favor and indulge here. You will love everything that comes to your table AND pairings are expertly done. Each pairing that we had elevated every dish to an extraordinary level. Between chef Michael's cuisine, and pairings from Jose Gutierrez you will leave completely satiated and happy.

When we visited it was very busy so I would definitely recommend getting a reservation. I loved the decor and seating. The staff was so pleasant and had good recommendations. We started with some wine I had a delicious moscato and my hubby had a Cabernet. For an appetizer we had the fried asparagus and it was so fresh and full of flavor. The breading was not overly powerful or too much. They had 3 dipping sauces. I really liked the basil one, hubby thought it was too powerful. The lemon aioli was also very good but I absolutely loved the basil one. The red one was just okay to me but hubby liked that one the most. For our entrees I had the Saffron Seafood Pasta and hubby had the Carbonara Pasta dish. For mine it tasted like the seafood was just delivered right out of the ocean. The shrimp was huge, the scallops were plentiful and there was a lot of squid. The papardelle pasta was out of this world. Briney and creamy in the best way. Hubby enjoyed his dish but one bite of mine and he had food envy. We both agreed that tomatoes in my dish weren't needed. But it didn't take away my enjoyment of the dish. For dessert hubby had the tiramisu and I had the San Pietro sundae, minus whip cream, a vanilla gelato with pistachios, caramel coated almonds and salted caramel. It was so delicious, creamy and incredibly tasty. We will definitely be back to try more delicious food.

Big Sur even healed my wheelchair bound mother in her 30's? when she fell ill and stayed with the Pfeiffer family back in the '70s for a couple of months. Despite whatever inclimate weather on the Monterey Peninsula, whenever you pass Big Sur and go up over the hill past Ventana and Post Ranch to Nepenthe, it is always sunshine. Well, except for last weekend. But we didn't care. Our usual favorite spot is through the restaurant out on the back deck but they were, as always, mobbed so we grabbed a drink at the beautiful bar and waited about 30 minutes for an edge spot out front. When I started going to Nepenthe, the Ambrosia Burgers (a must have) were $5...Now they are about $28. For all the haters who complain about that price tag, realize you are on the edge of the world with zero cares aside from perhaps some difficult parking because it is such a popular place. But again, everything about Nepenthe is pure magic. For my wife and I, we split a bottle of Chardonnay for a very reasonable price as well as the Ambrosia Burger with the absolute mandatory side of bean salad. TIKI DAVE is serious; the bean salad has been a favorite for years and years and years. The fresh herbs with the garbanzos and kidneys, well, for fear of being redundant, the combination is magic. And that burger continues to be incredible. And frankly splitting the burger, beans and a half basket of fries (which really is even enough for a family of 4) are plenty. TIKI DAVE adores this place and it has survived years of local fires. The store down below is also amazing, full of unique things, art, jewelry, cards, decor, everything interesting. TIKI DAVE has been going to NEPENTHE for years and years and years. I have all sorts of local tips; please reach out to me and follow me on socials for all sorts of tips!

The drink weak (and $22). Their famous burger? Good french roll was a nice touch but the meat was way overcooked for how I ordered it. For $26 they shouldn't charge an extra $2.50 for a 5 cent piece of cheese. Also for that price I expect the chef to put the lettuce/pickles/tomato ON the burger instead of slapping them on the the plate. And their "famous" Ambrosia sauce? You guessed it... 1000 island. Here's what you do: walk around and take pictures. Truly beautiful. Then eat ANYWHERE else.

However, they do not have a large selection of local wines so that was disappointing. I was hoping there would be a page featuring "local wines". Glad we brought a wine from Odonata with us. We enjoyed all the food offerings! The biscuit is truly fantastic. I know it's just a biscuit but I really loved the buttery crust and the super soft insides that melted in your mouth. The trout appetizer was tasty... The cracker it was served on was super hard and a bit hard to chew. So... I skipped that and didn't feel I was missing anything. The crab salad was filled with chunks of crab! It was lightly dressed to let the crab shine. Our mains were quite tasty and perfectly prepared. Take note, the clam linguine is generously powered by garlic. The clams are fat and juicy.
