Voters approved the municipal charter and the name on September 10, 2002 and the Village of Palmetto Bay became Miami-Dade's 33rd municipality. Shortly after the formerly 5 acre Perrine Park was transformed into a 25 acre passive and active recreational resource for the newly incorporated town. In 2006 the City Council changed the name to Palmetto Bay Park. Today Palmetto Bay Park is a multi-recreational facility. Outstanding features of the park include an community center, an expansive greenspace, walking paths, picnic gazebos, skatepark, basketball courts, the largest covered Boundless Playgrounds in South Florida, and a six-field, state-of-the-art softball complex with batting cages. The city isn't done yet. They are adding a pickleball court and making cosmetic improvements to the park. Whether you visit the park for a basketball game, to enjoy a picnic, unleash the kids on the completely fenced in playground, or to take a family stroll beneath the trees, Palmetto Bay Park has something for everyone to enjoy be it an active day outdoors or a peaceful retreat in nature, So, pack your picnic basket, lace up your sneakers, and immerse yourself in the serene splendor of Palmetto Bay Park. It is a true gem nestled within the heart of Palmetto Bay.

In terms of parks in Miami, this is probably one of the nicer parks and not as well known. It's essentially hidden from US 1 and as a result, rarely gets very packed. Highlights include: 1. Separate playground areas for age groups. Toddler play area consists of several obstacles, slides and swings. The larger kids area has a wide range of playsets including swings, slides, rocks to climb, and a large spinning climbing "tree". There's also plenty of benches and a covered seating area that offers shade. 2. Nice sized skatepark which has recently been painted. 3. Nice sized indoor shelter to host birthday parties. You need to call and book in advance. 4. Fields are nicely run and often hosts softball and baseball games. All in all, one of the nicer parks in Miami. A great place to visit with the kids. They also frequently host county and local activities and events as well.

It is a fenced park that includes a baseball field (kid size), two full basketball courts, a tennis court and a racquetball court, a tiny gym, and two ballrooms. If you had the pleasure to have The Rec as your voting site, then you know what I am talking about. I used to play basketball regularly on the basketball courts, but a knee injury limits my time on the sport. Nevertheless, the park is pretty quiet, and it's a comfortable place to play sports. I like not finding beer bottles or glass laying around, like at some other parks. Also, The Rec is only open to the residents of West Miami, so no crackheads are allowed. Of the other amenities available, the ballrooms are worth to mention. They are available for rent, one of them comes with a small kitchen, and they have been recently built. The rest of the amenities are also available, although you may have to check with the office for available times, since they are used for private lessons. If you live in the City of West Miami, then you must have stopped by The Rec at some point in time. If you are not a resident, then you can access the facilities with a resident of the city. Whichever way you choose to enter The Rec, you are guaranteed to have a great time.

The basketball courts are very well lit and impeccably maintained. They do have a small area that's available to rent for private parties but since the supply is limited it is strongly suggested to reserve ahead of time. This venter is one of the best parts of West Miami and you'll find that it's quite enjoyable and not as congested as other community centers. It's a great spot to do laps around or even teach your kid how to ride bike without training wheels. It's got a little bit for everyone and it's centrally located so accessibility isn't an issue. I can't emphasize enough on how pleasant it is to have such a clean neighborhood park that the community can use happily.

Park amenities include a lighted baseball field, racquetball court, benches, picnic pavilion, playground, and a recreation center that offers school break camps, youth leagues, and after school programs. The park also has teqball tables which is a new sport to me. Teqball uses a table that looks like table tennis but instead is curved. The sport combining table tennis and football was invented in 2014 by Hungarians: Gabor Borsanyi and Viktor Huszar. Borsnyi was injured playing soccer and wanted to find a less aggressive sport. Today soccer players use it for supplemental training. It has become one of the fastest growing sports in the world. After less than 10 years, more than 100 countries already have their own teqball associations. I really loved my visit to Hammocks Community Park. From the parking lot it doesn't look like much but I picked up the pathway that goes past the playground and sports fields to the back of the park where it runs next to a scenic lake. There are large trees in the back of the park offering shade and shelter to wildlife. For anyone looking for more exercise, you can pick up the 7.3 mile Hammocks Lakes Loop at the entrance to Hammocks Community Park. The paved trail winds around the lake and apartment complexes. It is ideal for birding, walking, running, bike riding, and dog walking.

Danny Berry often claims he cares about the kids but the reality is he doesn't. If he did, he would…read moreact like any other serious little league and actually check birth certificates. Danny Berry's league is a league where your kid and his team can spend all season long working their butts off, waking up at 630 AM to take practice swings before school, and then lose the championship game because some academy decided to sit out several players in their 8U roster and bring in 9 and 10-year-olds to fill the spots in an 8U game. It is actually allowed, within the rules of Danny Berry's league, to play whatever players you want in a playoff/finals game (even if they aren't on the roster). And since Mr. Berry does not check birth certificates, Academies who want to cheat are essentially free to do so. If Danny Berry actually cared about the kids, he would show up to the league and at least watch some games here and there. We never saw him until the very last day, when he comes to hand out trophies or rings after the championship game. If Danny Berry actually cared about the kids, he would have a stable coaching staff for his academy. But he doesn't; his academy's staff is a revolving door and none of those kids are learning anything. You can see they're learning nothing by the fact that they play very badly and are consistently at the bottom of the league (I've attached screenshots to show this). If Danny Berry cared about the kids, he wouldn't have an academy that's happy to take a monthly check but provide no results. If you want to build a baseball academy and make a name for yourself by cheating and playing a roster over the age limit, then Danny Berry is probably a great man to have a business relationship with. If you want a good place for your kids to play or a good academy to join, absolutely stay away. Don't be fooled by the fake reviews left by his friends and family members.

We were about to receive our rings and a parent screamed "play fair" in response to the obvious older players playing in a little kids league. Our glorious leader's response was get your kids and your rings and get out of here. It was classless at its finest. As long as you pay his fees he could care less what goes on in his league. He's not even around during the week if you have a protest for a game. It's pretty funny when every team in your division gathers for your playoff game rooting for you against another team because obviously they have older kids on the roster than allowed. No verifications are done as far as birth certificates and school identification like the other leagues. He says he looks in peoples eyes and knows the truth... what a bunch of crap. Guess it cost him more to actually verify ages on teenagers playing in his little kids league. Our parents actually watched a coach tell a kid on his team today that he couldn't play today because it was a championship game in front of his mom. What kind of lesson are you teaching these kids? As the leader of this league what are you allowing Danny? Numerous teams have protested and you've brushed them off. It's crazy how you don't realize how messed up this league is until you play somewhere else. Our whole team will not be returning to this obvious joke of a league. "Play fair" Danny.
