Nice stop for a quick and tasty bite a mere 2 minute walk from my Covent Garden office. I haven't had Franco manco in a while but it did not disappoint. Specials on the chalkboard included veggie options like tomatoes, mozzarella, mushrooms, caramelized red onion and watercress pesto and carnivore options like tomato, mozzarella, salami, ricotta, fresh basil and black pepper but I opted for a classic mozzarella and basil and added prosciutto. My meal cost about £12 and was tasty with franco manco's signature wood fired sour dough crust. There are lots of fresh veggies options as well as meats for just about any preference. Service was quick and friendly. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. I sat inside as it was a slightly chilly day but outside seating is also an option. Ambience was warm and nicely lit and had a nice vibe with low music in the background which wasn't too overpowering and allowed you to still have a conversation with your companions. read more

Truly one of my favorite pizzas of all time! They are hands down my favorite pizza chain ever! If you are in London it is a must go! There were so many of these places around London and it's a great little stop to get some pizza to break up your journey! We had a friend recommend this place for a quick and easy dinner while walking around London. It's not super fancy but it is quick and delicious! We had a short wait, but we just grabbed a pint from next door while we waited. The service was solid and the food came out quickly and was nice and hot. We ordered the #2 which is basically a Margherita Pizza, and the #8 because it sounded fun. Both were solid wood fired pizzas and did the job. The pizzas are pretty good size but we finished them both as we were quite hungry. They had a few specials on the board as well, so be sure to check them out before ordering. Pizza made fresh with Italian, organic ingredients?! You know it's going to be amazing. The back of the menu had each ingredient listed with a paragraph on where it's sourced from. I've never seen that before and found it to be so impressive. The inside is beautiful and we enjoyed the outdoor patio seating too. Sourdough pizza is really really popular in London (they don't do the crispy crust or NY slice). I prefer the neapolitan/traditional pizza, since I feel like the sourdough subdues/distracts from the overall power of the pizza flavor. However, the sourdough is really fresh and soft and lets you enjoy the artisan baking involved. read more

Sourdough pizza? Sign me up! This neopolitan inspired pie was delectable and I finished every last bite. The tang that naturally leavened dough has makes for one flavorful pie. It had a chewy and light texture. The dough also burns clean meaning that when you eat it, you don't feel bogged down since your body can breakdown fermented dough way easier. The cheese was rich and gooey while the sauce was just the right balance of acidic and savory. The interior is well designed and inviting. After watching the waiter clean off & set other tables for about 5-10 min we finally asked him if we should order at the bar (like some other places in London). He said "ah, no!" Then took our order. The texture of the wild mushrooms tasted fresh, the tomato sauce juicy but the base too thin for my liking. Even the sharper knife design did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated as I find that pizzas can often be difficult to cut with an average blunt knife. The restaurant was completely jammed on a Saturday night, so I'm glad we picked up. A solid 4 star for price, a soft 3.5 for service, a solid 3.5 for taste - overall 4 star experience. Time arrived: I met up with some friends on a Monday evening, they had come in around 7:15pm and managed to secure a table for 4 by 7:30pm. Our fourth guest didn't arrive until 8pm, but the staff was willing to give us the table and allowed us ample time to order drinks, appetizer/sharing plates and then our main pizza courses. Ambience: A darkly lit room with great view to the kitchen, a downstairs with more seating. No music, not too loud but a decent background noise level, comfortable to enjoy conversation without shouting. Food: We ordered the spicy lamb sausage with potato and the garlic bread with mozarella sharing plates. The Lamb was indeed spicy, like a moderate kick (coming from someone who can't handle spice well). The garlic bread was substantial in size in long strips to cut and rip off for oneself. A nice cheesy flavor and a fun starting dish. I would re-order the garlic bread but probably not the lamb (due to spice, but it was made well). Pizzas: We ordered the #6/7 to share, and for four pizzas at our table, they took about 7min. The mix of chorizo from the #6 had a great smoke to it but was more limited in quantity of meat pieces, and the #7 sausage had a good taste as well. The dough on the pizza is light and the pizzas come in a fairly large personal size (1 is enough per person). I'd say, the #6 had a better taste with the chorizo, but the #7 had more meat with their sausage. Hard to say which one I would order over the other, but I'm currently leaning the #7 based on the meat quantity. Tips/Takeaways: -University-ID pass offers a student discount on their pizzas -Restaurant is typically full so you might want to either A) come early to get a seat, or B) expect a delay in seating -Food itself comes out quick, is substantial in size, worth the price, a solid pizza option on a budget -Service is a bit on the slower side, but the staff itself is accommodating -For now, I would choose the #7 over #6 pizza, but just barely based on the meat quantity read more

I like pizza, but I don't like queues, or waiting around for ages outside...so I never bothered to visit Franco Manca, as they always seem to have a long line out the door. I mostly wear dresses or skirts, so my chilly legs ain't got no time for that! However, now they have been around for a while, the queue seems to have calmed down (at least on Monday nights- yay!) I looove: - The sourdough bases were perfect! I often leave the crust of my pizza if they are dry and boring...but I ate every crumb of this! Seriously...the crusts were crunchy, yet soft and doughy. I might preface this by saying I'm not exactly a pizza person I ordered the chorizo pizza and it came relatively bare looking. My girlfriend ordered the tomato basil pizza and it also came pretty barebones. I was confused because it said tomato basil pizza and it came with a single piece of basil in the middle of the pizza. However, the chili oil, garlic oil, and olive oil in the middle of the tables really do add a lot to the pizza, I would be sure to add some to taste. All in all, the pizza was decent for the price. In terms of personal preference I would have preferred more substance (in the form of dough cheese toppings, etc), however that is mostly my fault for going to a thin crust sour dough pizza place. read more

Very pleasantly surprised. In need of a quickish pit-stop lunch I happened on Franco Manca in Covent Garden. Tourist central so expectations relatively low. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. The pizza special was a 'meat special' which arrived at my table in less than 10 minutes. It was really very, very good. I'm not a fan of wafer thin pizza bread preferring mine on the doughy side and this didn't disappoint. The pizza base was piping hot, slightly crusty with that satisfying bulge around the rim to really get the teeth into. The topping was a number of different meat slices which, to be honest, was ok but the bread made it for me. Less than 10 quid and in and out in well under an hour.
