I am absolutely disgusted by the actions of Franciscan Health Crown Point. A Black woman in active labor came to this hospital for help exactly what any human being should be able to rely on a hospital for, only to be turned away by a doctor and a nurse who insisted she "wasn't far enough along" to be admitted. Eight minutes later, she delivered her baby in a car on the side of the road. There is no interpretation of the Hippocratic Oath, or even basic human decency, that justifies refusing care to a woman who is clearly in labor. Since the repeal of Roe v. Wade, hospitals claim their priority is protecting life at all stages, yet in this red state, this incident proves the opposite. These medical professionals put both the mother and the newborn in immediate danger through sheer negligence and indifference. This is not a misunderstanding. This is a complete betrayal of the standards and ethics the public expects from healthcare providers. Any hospital that allows this level of malpractice and disregard to happen should be held fully accountable, and the individuals responsible should never be allowed to treat patients again. Both Doctor and the nurse involved deserve prison. Franciscan Health Crown Point showed that they cannot be trusted with the safety of women, Black patients, or newborns. My immobile husband was sent to the ER for severe headaches from his nursing home. He was laying there for 10 hours during which time they did bloodwork, a covid/flu swab, and a CT scan (6 hours later). No one communicated at all. The doctor came back with a 5 minute summary which anyone on the street could have determined and sent him on his way. I guess I should be grateful after laying in his own waste for hours, they did come and remove the soiled items before they sent him back. read more

Your labor and delivery staff needs to be revamped. If nurses are unable to tell when a person is in active labor and then lets them out of the hospital for them to try to find their way to another hospital only to have to pull over to the side of the road and give birth to their baby right then and there. The climate politically that we are in right now leaves no room for an egregious mistake like this and everyone who watched this woman pass by them most likely in agony and still let her go on her way needs to be fired. What if this was a white woman? Would her experience have been different? Do we really need to ask these questions? Of course we don't. ICU, a wonderful floor Darrell is a Great Nurse! Very kind, I could not have asked for a better RN for my Mom,Wish we could have taken Him with us to the 5 th . 5 E stay Away!! My mom was their 2and 1/2 days NEVER given a Towel or wash Cloth! Never offered any help to wash up. I had a traumatic hand injury. This hospital is supposed to be a trauma center. The orthopedic surgeon "declined " to take my case and would need to be transfered. Thye said there were no hand specialists in the area and would need to go to Indianapolis. They just did not want to transfer out of system. Once the decision was made, I was almost an afterthought in the ER. Staff was pleasant but very impersonal. Never offered a pillow or blanket for the bed. I laid there for 9 hrs. waiting for the ambulance transfer. I will never step foot in a Fransiscan facility again. The patient is the last thing they are concerned with. read more

My stay was early Feb 2022 from 2/15-2/23 at the Crown Point,Indiana ER then to a single bed room on third floor.Been having problems with lower legs.....Cellulitus.The nurses were very nice and professional.It was always asked what is my pain number and what they could do to make that pain number lower.I was always informed of proceedures that were to be performed to make me better or to help me to better understand my situation.Thanks to all involved and God bless. read more

Very very disappointed with the billing dept. Had a surgery here in December 2019 which included an elective procedure that I was told would be covered. Discovered in January 2020 that insurance wouldn't cover it. Immediately contacted Franciscan which kicked off a 26 month journey of calls between their billing dept and my insurance. I was told each time it was just a billing issue and the procedure would be covered. Finally today, 26 months later I was told I would be liable for the entire amount and the billing dept could do nothing to adjust the bill. I don't believe that for one moment. Extremely disappointed in their lack of follow through and miscommunication. My hands are tied now. I am forced to pay over $3000 for an elective procedure that took less than 15 minutes and was a very small part of my overall surgery. Beyond disappointed with Franciscan billing. read more

I'm sorry but the ER last night was a joke. I took my daughter their at 10pm and didn't leave till 2am.. I know it doesn't take 3 hours to run a urine test! We got put in a triage room, we where only in their for about 15 mins. Until they moved us to a waiting room in the back. While waiting the doc came in and talked said she was going to prescribe my daughter some cream I said okay and we will wait to see what her pee comes back.. well the doc never came back. I went to the nurses station one of the nurses said she would be with me in a min.. well 30 mins later after she was done laughing and joking with a co-worker. Well another 45 min go by and I'm back at the nurses station PO... well no one was their I waited for a nurse to walk out on of the rooms.. i ask her wtf is going on my daughter is sleeping in a chair we have been waiting over 2 hours for her urine test to come back.. I tell her my daughters name and she said she will be right with me.. I say thank you and go wait... well 30 mins go by and nothing.. well here I am in tears on the phone with my cousin telling her this is BS it doesn't take this long to do a test!! So I go back and get shitty bc I been waiting so long!! Bc at this point they forgot about us... she comes to tell me she was waiting for doc to discharge me because it will take 2 days for her urine to come back... at this point I'm PO my 6 yr has been sleeping in a chair for over 2 hours.. you literally gave us nothing for her pain and FORGOT ABOUT US FOR OVER 2 hours... and don't come for me saying they where busy! Because I walked around and there was well over 10 rooms open!!! So sad I will not be going back I'll rather take the drive to Munster... smh shame on you!! read more

Terrible cardiology Dept. No communication whatsoever. Sends people home with life threatening conditions. It's all about money for these Drs. The nurses are awful and don't care at all about their patients. I have found this hospital to have zero compassion for anyone. They just want to prescribe prescribe prescribe all kinds of medications without considering the side effects of other underlying conditions. They use what is called the "fuck around and find out method" with patients lives. I do not recommend this hospital to anyone with life threatening illness or disease. read more

I give this hospital zero stars. This hospital is horrible especially the ER. 8 hours an lung cancer COPD patient has to lay in the hallway with everyone going passed him for test and X-rays out the door and a very sick child in a room across from him with the doors open coughing and screaming. Only 1 person can stay with him in the hallway but if he had a room then 2 people can stay with him. Not our fault for 8 hours he is placed in the hallway and others get ER rooms. No doctors or nurses have checked on him in 3 hours. The lights and the door opening and closing makes it very drafty and cold. Staff telling me to watch his oxygen levels. Machines are broke. People are coming and going and someone else gets a room and he is still stuck in the hallway. Oxygen runs out and no one is around to help or monitor it. This place I would not even want to take my pet too or an animal I found on the street that was injured. read more

This is one of the worst hospitals in N.W. Indiana, I have had the unpleasant experience of going there in October of 2021, I was having chest pains, so I went to the E.R. I was stuck in the E.R. For two nights before getting a room, now if you suspect someone having a heart attack, you don't put them in the same room with elderly dimensia patients. They misdiagnosed my condition according to my family physician and my cardiologist of whom both are part of the community network they said it was best exaustion. Then it gets better, in February of 2022, my wife while at work, collapsed. She was taken to Saint Agony and was stuck in the E.R. They said she was having a heart attack, and have her potassium levels raised. Meanwhile a bunch of lazy overweight nurses were making rude comments about people and talking loudly about a bunch of useless garbage. They tell her the next morning they are going to put her in a room, but then they decide to send her home and tell her she needs to see a cardiologist and have some tests done. While leaving a security guard harassed her for not wearing a mask outside the E.R. Doors. This hospital is a joke, The whole Franciscan network sucks anymore. There's a reason why most of their doctors left to join Pinnacle, Regional and the Community networks. Steer clear of this place. read more

DO NOT USE THIS HOSPITAL!! If I could give negative stars I would. I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant and was deathly ill for 3 days with decreased fetal movement... So I went to the nearest hospital. Here's a list of what went wrong: 1. The look of the maternity ward is deceiving. Although beautiful and modern, the staff seemed as though they didn't want to work. I was asked 5 times why I was sent up to th maternity ward... UHM HELLO BECAUSE I'M PREGNANT AND SICK AND MY BABY ISN'T MOVING AS MUCH. 2. The nurse who came in asked me the same questions at least three times each. She was a total space cadet. 3. I waited 4 hours before they started any type of treatment/testing. 4. They didn't tell me what IV antibiotic they gave me. 5. The doctor - Mary McCormick - came in after me being in the completely EMPTY maternity ward 6 hours and said I had a bladder infection and sent me home after my fluids were pumped... Seems legit right? WRONG!! I followed up with my primary care physician only to find out the antibiotic I was sent home on is DANGEROUS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN AND THEIR UNBORN CHILD!! 6. My significant other was trying to find my room after grabbing a late night snack and he said my name and the female at the nurse's station responded with "WHO?!" absolutely rude and then persisted to say "Oh I just got here" in a snarky voice. With all that being said if I was on my death bed - I would make the drive to University of Chicago Hospital before stopping there EVER AGAIN. read more

I was taken by ambulance to the ER. I had been previously diagnosed with coronary artery disease and was advised by the medics to go get checked out because of this. I spent around six hours in the ER before being admitted for observation. I spent another 12 hours in the telemetry observation unit. In the 18 hours I spent in the hospital I saw a doctor a total of 15 seconds. My cardiologist was never informed that I was there. I was released by a nurse practitioner. I will say that the staff in the telemetry unit were very professional and that part of my stay. I feel that this facility as a whole is very poorly managed and I would think twice about selecting it as a place to seek care in the future although it is by far the closest to my house. read more

Worst experience ever. I think when you are in the er for close to 12 hours (no restrictions) you should be offered something to eat or drink other than water. No communication. I heard my nurse complain because she ordered a pop sickle for another patient and would be "scored poorly" because it wasn't delivered in a timely manner. Meanwhile I'm throwing up and in pain, and she's in the hall gossiping!! This place is a joke! Nurses are incompetent bullies, and administration is NOWHERE to be found! I've been calling to complain, and can never speak to a human- even the operators are rude, and sigh. For my entire stay I heard nurses complain about anything and everything. This is the worst emergency room ever, first, they are so disorganized they kept calling for people who were already in the back being treated. They also did a painful medical test on me that I didn't need just to pad the insurance bill. I had two large ovarian cysts that needed to be removed and in hindsight, I'm happy I didn't get my surgery here because their incompetence would have killed me. I had, a week before that, an ultrasound, they repeated the same test which they had no business doing causing me more pain. Then they did a pelvic exam on me and didn't stop when I was crying. I have stage 4 endometriosis on top of my cysts so the pain I was in as they did nothing to help, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Never go here unless you're a masochist. I would give this a 0 star if I could. I tell everyone I see don't go here. read more

If I could give this review zero stars I would. This hospital is trash and literally were killing my mother. She was admitted on December 6 due to complications with her first round of chemo. She had a mastectomy in September. Since December 6, the doctors have basically starved her. She was never hooked up to a nutritional IV, never given pain meds for her mouth sores or throat sores. Once we discovered this, we asked for her to be put on a pain med and the nurses said she would have to ask for it every time as they would not just give it to her. How is my mom supposed to advocate for herself when she cannot talk and is sundowning? After 9 days of the staff treating her like she was in hospice care, I made the call to transfer her to another hospital. This is when the 'new' hospitalist decides to be proactive but it's a little too late. My mom was finally transferred last night. The ambulance that was to pick her up was super late. No one told us this and we had family waiting for her at the new hospital. Once they got on the road, they arrived hours later than expected with no answer to why. Upon intake, it was discovered my mom has bed sores (which we knew nothing about and obviously were not being treated), a swollen arm with a huge hard knot (that could be a blood clot) and severely malnourished. This was not care she was receiving at Crown Point but a death sentence. Folks, we need to advocate for our loved ones especially when they cannot. I am convinced had I left my mom in their care she would die. This ridiculous excuse of a hospital should be shut down. read more

THIEVES!!! Worst experience ever! Had to go to their emergency room and was wheeled in by nurse. They told hubby he had to park car immediately, so he does so. They put me into a room and remove my sunglasses from my face. Then start removing clothing to get a gown on. When ordeal was over, my clothing was strewn about the room, even on top of the garbage can, and under the table I was on, and my very expensive sunglasses are no where to be found. Hubby calls next day and no one knows anything! Two weeks later of a complete run-around and they say "we have no record of anyone removing your wife's sunglasses". So sorry folks, you're screwed! Thanks for nothing. Also, this was not a life or death visit either, just kidney stones. BTW, had to go to ER a few days after this one, but told hubby to drive into Chicago to a good hospital and let me tell you folks, the experience was 1000 times better! (went to Northwestern Memorial ER) My personal items were neatly stored in a cabinet and I did not have to have the gown or other useless tests done that Crown Point ER did. The meds given in Chicago also made the pain subside without nausea, unlike Crown Point where the pain meds given to me did hardly anything for the actual pain and then made me so sick I was throwing up! Shame on you St. Anthony for not taking responsibility for STOLEN ITEMS that your staff took! Now I have to pay for their incompetence! read more

I've had several experiences at this hospital due to a challenging pregnancy. -I have come in through the emergency room twice at night with complications. I was taken up to L&D extremely quickly and was met with care, concern, and professionalism. -I took my 3 year old to the ER for nursemaid's elbow. They were very fast to care for her and very accommodating for a scared little girl. -I also had to go to L&D for monitoring multiple times from my doctor's appointments and found the same. I usually had my 3 year old in tow with me and they were very caring toward her as well as me. -My birth there was amazing. I loved the L&D team that I'd gotten to know over the last few months! They advocated for me to be able to stick with my birth plan, along with my midwife Bernie Price. I was able to use the tub and pretty much all that the room had to offer. It was very large and clean in the labor room and all of the nurses were amazing. -My recovery after birth was also met with a wonderful team. The room was much smaller, but I didn't want tons of visitors so that was wonderful to me. -The celebration dinner was very sweet. Room service food overall was not good and very bland. The food from the cafeteria was delicious though and well-priced. -The only negative is from Franciscan as a whole. After each visit I've been enrolled in phone education programs that auto dial you multiple times a day. read more

I delivered both of my daughters at St. Anthony's. Both of the experiences were wonderful. They were both born via c-section. The OR nurses were wonderful and comforted my nerves. The recovery nurses were equally as sincere and fantastic. The Labor & Delivery Nurses and aides are all amazing. My youngest daughter was admitted to the NICU at 18 hours. Dr. Chandra, the head neonatologist, is so unbelievable. Kind, wise, gentle, patient. His bedside manner is like none I've ever experienced. The NICU nurses are fantastic. They genuinely love and care for their patients and parents. I CANNOT say enough good things about our entire experience. They are angels in disguise. From pre-registration to discharge, I would recommend to anyone to deliver at St. Anthony's. read more

Came to ER for my 5yr old who split his head open. We got there at 8:30pm and waited until about 1 am for 3 staples. No tests were needed so I'm very confused about why it took that long to do. He was given a numbing cotton ball so he wouldn't feel the staples but they had us wait so long that the numb wore off completely. He took 3 staples to the head and felt it all. I'm very upset that he had to go through that. That's horrible. He was so good the entire time too that I just can't fathom how that must have felt. I wish we would have taken the drive to community who would have had him in the back immediately and patched up quickly. This hospital Runs on first come first serve basically. So if you are seriously in pain, bleeding, needing an ER go to community because this place will be taking people with non emergency colds and sore thumbs before they get you to. The staff was friendly, I just think they need a whole new system of how they take patients and they need to hire more staff. read more

I gave birth to my 2 children at this hospital. I had many complications with my first son which required me to be on a catheter for a week and being taught how to straight cath at home for several weeks after. I had epidural headaches from spinal fluid leakage which was treated with a blood patch, IV with caffeine and a second blood patch because the other treatments failed to work. I have had chronic back pain ever since (6years) and urinary retention. My second was born via C-section due to breech posistion and I was released in half the time with no complications. I will say that my experience with the anathesiologists with the epidurals, (3 because the first time they hit a nerve and had to redo it, The second stopped working after a few hours and the failed "blood patch" was obviously bad. I am giving them 4 stars because the nurses on the maternity ward are simply amazing. They were kind, attentive and went above and beyond their jobs to help me through everything. May God bless those nurses for their extrodinary care for me and my family! read more
