Do not go to their ER. Doctors wanted my family member sent there to be admitted for mentaI health evaluation. They refused to admit. I expressed my concern for her safety. Family member never had a definitive diagnosis. They were upset by my insistence on them keeping her. They told me they are going to transfer her by ambulance to a mental hospital because her records state she has dementia and they are not equipped to care for dementia patients. The purpose in her being sent to Franciscan was so they could Diagnose her and start treatment. Franciscan transferred her to a psychiatric hospital involuntary. She had to stay at least 72 hours And was there during Christmas holidays. They had previously told me we could tour facility and take her home if not satisfied. This was a lie. They also lied that her hospital records confirmed a dementia diagnosis. This was a nightmare. I could not imagine a hospital doing that because I had made them angry by begging them to keep her. I was terrified this would be traumatic for her. read more

My mom was rushed by ambulance after a fall from tripping on her dog. It was a terrible fall needing lots of stitches. I was incredibly impressed by the whole experience. Years ago I was not happy with the hospital. But that was a completely different experience. From the wonderfully kind woman who checked my dad and I in from the registration to nurses to Dr Zinkel we couldn't have been happier with the experience. I was very nervous to have her stitches done without a plastic surgeon. Dr. X assured me her would do a great job and take his time. He wasn't offended by this request and was very comforting. Within 5 minutes of being in the trauma room she was already at CT. Her stitches were done perfectly. All my medical field friends are incredibly impressed. I couldn't be more thankful for the care, patience and expertise taken in this scary trip. Thank you so much to everyone!! read more

On 09/02/24 I went to the Franciscan Health in Duer, IN. Although I was bleeding they discharged me because they said my insurance won't cover the further examination I needed. On the top of that the nurses were so inexperienced and careless that they bruised my arm big time, my arm looked something between green, black, purple, blue, and red. it looks very awful. when I tried to speak with them they discussed my symptoms in front of patients and staff out loud in the hospital lobby. I went into the ER with the worst pain I've ever experienced, they took forever to get me back in the room didn't even give me any pain killers until a very kind ultrasound tech said she wouldn't do it until I got my pain meds. My daughter was in the hospital from December 6 to December 10. During that times was not cleaned up once.They did her meds and chenged her bandage. She is not able to help herself. She came home with a bruise on her hip and a rash on most of her body. Definitely not happy with the care she got.- read more

Excellent Care and loved the service my male nurse was extremely attentive and friendly. The staff pulled me in right away and understood my issue and pain. The treatment took 30 mins from registering and service. The care was good and I recommend this facility to calm your ailments. read more

Very bad service all around and the doctor excuse was this isn't a restaurant..went there yesterday for a 12am appointment was supposed to be in and out, all he got was a room and an I V hook up to him and a lot of excuses for the wait..Look I no there's emergency, my thing is 5 hours later my husband is still in pain ,we had an appointment something should have been done, besides milking my insurance..Finally I told them, if your not going to take care of my husband release him so I can find some one who will..these hospitals haven't got any better there's a reason half are closing and under law suits..I pay good money for insurance, when I use it ,I get treated like I don't, but they love to milk it,,these hospitals need to do better,,shame on them read more

If i could give 0 stars i would. I've been to the ER several times for concerns about my cardio health, and got the same results each time. I had to go on Monday June 12th. I was given an ECG/EKG and chest x-ray and was told i was fine and to stop wasting their time. Thankfully I was able to see my physician 2 days later, and after reviewing my ECG/EKG results from the ER visit, she informed me that parts of the results were ACTUALLY abnormal, and was told i needed more tests and to see a cardiologist ASAP. I'll NEVER go here again unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. read more

So, apparently, being a former employee gives you benefits; no one else receives At this time of covid policies (1 person per patient per 24-hour period) is only enforced on people that don't have former employees in their family Today, a patient on the 6th floor had two women in with them...both women had worked at the hospital...they went in through the lab, bypassing the protocol completely. Alright here's the deal, if you're coming here you really aren't going to be too overly concerned with the food. That being said, don't eat the food here. Smuggle some in from outside if you're able. If you're waiting for someone during surgery, or another procedure, leave and get food and then come back. The food is exactly what you think of when you think of hospitality food. Bland, overcooked, and no seasoning. They seem to also offer some other food options for quick grab and go meals, but again, you're probably better off just going and grabbing food elsewhere. read more

This has been the WORST experience ever. They are not attentive on the 4th floor and monitors beep all the time. We had a monitor alarm going off for 40 minutes. We called the nurses station and they said they would be down. Thirty minutes later I had to walk to the nurses station to find assistance. I give this place zero stars but have to mark a 1 in order to post this message. Patients are left dehydrated. They tell you, you can only have liquids and then a full tray of food is delivered. It seems as if they are not paying attention to their patients. Numbers are not left for you to call, the I.V. machine is noisey and the customer service is not great. Then we asked the nurse a question and she ignored us. I absolutely HATE this place today. There was a change in shift and she didn't introduce herself. I had to ask her name and then ask where the nurse was. She said the shift changed over an hour ago and she still didn't give us her name. read more

My son went to this hospital the other day. Saying he was suicidal and basically the doctor told him he wasn't and started yelling at him. Then they basically prescribed him a naloxone drug to take if he overdose on anything. What kind of doctor says that to someone. My son was in the Outpatient had some blood work done today. I was waiting in the car. I saw him come out he was shaking and he collapsed. I ran out of the car. He blacked out came to and I put him in my car. I ran in and asked the receptionist if they had crackers or orange juice since he had lab work done and just blacked out. She said no we don't I can call security. I said forget it. This nice couple saw my son fall and saw me run to him. They offered me some fruit snacks and her husband went to his car and got me some graham crackers. I am thankful that good people do exist. That crew at St. Margaret was so disappointing. They are real quick to ask you for a deposit when you first go in. I will never go back there. Thankfully my son is okay just a few bruises. read more

My elderly dad was brought in with a broken foot through the ER. The initial care in the ER was not bad, but the floor in the ER was dirty. The nurses were great, but seem to have alot put on their plate. The aides were also good. They don't keep water at the bedside (my dad was not on any sort of liquid restriction) so you have to ring somebody to bring some. On his second day there, it was determined he should have surgery. I visited him the day of surgery and his oxygen levels were not great, but nobody seemed alarmed. When I called the next morning dad said everything was fine, but when I called from work around noon to find out when he would be coming home, I was told it would be that day! I had to leave work and nothing at home was set up for his arrival. Nothing was mentioned when I was there the previous day. They also have a rotating 'doctor of the day' so you rarely see the same doctor checking on them. One came in and asked "which foot is the injured foot?" before listening to his heart. Overall, I would have to say that my biggest gripe is the lack of communication with the patient or their family. read more

Over all I gave 4 stars because of the overall care I received from the doctors. I'll give the good and bad. Good....... Went to the ER per my family doctor. Was seen right away. I was admitted and ended up having cardiac surgery. The doctors are fantastic as well as the nurses. Very attentive and caring. Gave me everything I needed and made sure I wasn't in pain. The food was actually decent. The rooms are very large and had a couch and chair for visitors. Beds were comfortable. I felt very safe and housecleaning came in everyday I was there to clean and disinfect my entire room. Bad...... When I went to the ER there is only ONE check in person. Two of us in line had cardiac emergencies and they had us stand in line??? I was brought back right away and had an IV put in and EKG done. A doctor came in and asked questions. Was told I would be admitted as soon as a bed was available. Was not checked on for over 2 hours before receiving a room. I also had two flies in my ER room. ER staff not very personable or caring either. Once in room the nurses were attentive and very nice, but all testing took forever! I felt like they were dragging it on to keep me there longer. I had the same tests done over and over and I question if that was necessary. I also thought it was strange that I received fried food (chicken tenders) on the cardiac floor and no choices in regards to food were given. You get what you get. I also questioned the security. My husband said he basically walked right in and went up to my room. No ID was needed. Very odd! The rooms were very very cold! Overall good hospital. It's definitely not a Loyola or Rush, but doctors are very knowledgeable and caring. They explained everything thoroughly and I felt I got good care. They truly seemed concerned for my well being. read more

While there are always multiple reviews of everything and anything of a bad experience, this is not one of them. I took my wife in with heart related issues, and they had us back in a room within 5 minutes. All of the ER staff were attentive, professional , and caring. Tests were performed, IV's were given, all basic tests were performed before she was even admitted. After she was admitted the same level of care was given on her floor. She had to have a emergency stent put in due to her "widowmaker artery" being 99% blocked. Drs. and nurses performing this procedure were great, all questions were answered, etc. After this they said she will have to return for the other artery that was 80% blocked in 4 weeks. She went back in again, and received the same excellent care as before. She is now feeling much better, and has been followed up on by her cardiologist and other nurses. I realize people have bad experiences, but this was definitely not one of them. I cannot thank all of the nurses, Drs., and staff enough for their excellent lifesaving care. read more

In Feb. of this year I sought treatment with the mental health unit. I came through the ER, spoke with an intake coordinator, and was told I would be admitted for suicidal thoughts. By the time this conversation took place, my crisis had passed and i explained that to her. Was told it did not matter, that during the initial interview I had expressed suicidal thoughts and according to Indiana state law, the hospital was required to admit me otherwise, they would be held liable. I was left with my family member alone in an ER treatment room. At no time was she told to not allow me to leave, which is exactly what I did. I simply walked out of the ER, past the nurses station, and out the front door. I had been warned that should I walk out, the police would be sent to retrieve me. Which they were.....two days later. I was brought back to the hospital and immediately taken upstairs to the behavioral health unit, where I was placed in the elopement section. Over 12 hours passed before a psychiatrist saw me. Once I explained the details of my story, he determined I was no longer a threat to myself and signed my release. My point? It took the hospital and police department nearly 48 hours to find me and bring me in. I was hiding in plain sight. At my home address which is in the hospital files and with my phone turned on...also in the files...yet it took them that long to file the proper forms for the police to bring me in. Liability was the motivating factor here. My personal well-being was secondary. Never again! If a hospital cares more about covering their own a$$ than the patient's care, I want nothing to do with them. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would! I came in here late one night with my mother who is 82. She was literally crying in pain from her back, which had been getting worse lately. The doctor took an x-ray, gave her a mild pain reliever and had her quickly on her way back out like a revolving door. He told me pain isn't an admittable diagnosis and that he saw only age-related issues. My mother, being the trooper that she is, went on for a couple of weeks with the pain relievers. Finally an ambulance was called when she was beside herself with the pain. This time she insisted on going to Community Hospital in Munster. They quickly diagnosed several stress fractures in her spine and she is being treated effectively. My family loves Community! I was deeply distressed that she had suffered so severely when she should have received help at Franciscan. read more

My daughter was having suicidal thoughts and we came here to get help. We waited in the emergency room for 2 hours even though there was only a handful of ppl. We finally got brought back only to sit in another waiting room for almost 3 hours. I had to leave after my daughters evaluation to pick up my son from home and bring him back with me and I was told she would be admitted by the time we got back. Here we are, another hour and nobody has even acknowledged our presence. This place is horrible for mental health emergencies!!! Then when we tried to leave to seek help elsewhere we were told she would be picked up by police and brought back here. They did a shift change and the man let another person go ahead of my daughter pretty much to teach us a lesson even though we were given permission to leave and come back. Here we are, it is now 3:06 am and we checked in at a little before 7pm read more

If I could give zero stars I would. The hospital policy didn't allow for the insulin that my doctor prescribed so I wasn't treated at all. My blood sugar went to 400 and I asked the nurse what she was going to do about it and she said that she couldn't do anything about it. On another visit I rang for the nurse. After a measured hour and a half I pulled off my ekg monitor and walked out to find a nurse. There was nobody at the stations. Luckily a kind nurse came in to start her shift and got my nurse. Since I have heart failure amongst other ailments I told the nurse that no one answered my call or the ekg alarms. I told her that if I had a heart arrest I would be dead. My mother was in the hospital and for over 3 weeks I tried to get her to execute a property power of attorney since she was dying. No one even in administration helped. They all just lied to me about helping and calling me back. However I did receive a call from "Bill" in the end. Nothing was resolved but at least he had the respect to call me. I put a review on Google but it was deleted. So I've posted another and took a picture of it. So don't trust Google reviews. read more

First, I'm okay with these personality tests. Any moron knows how to answer these. However, Why in the world would I allow references to be contacted before I even get an interview??? Lazy HR. This review is for the most recent visit to this facility. I have never experienced such horrible care at a hospital. I had my gallbladder removed and was admitted to the same day surgery department for this procedure. My nurse, Mary, and an aid, Charlotte, gave me top notch care, but the rest of the staff in that department was deplorable. Up until a few weeks ago, the patient stayed overnight for this procedure, same day release is now policy. I no sooner was wheeled back from recovery when an aid entered my room and started yelling at me that I needed to call someone to pick me up. I was still groggy from anesthesia! My daughter was coming after work which I guess was not acceptable. A nurse walked in shortly after her and started yelling at me about my blue surgical booties being missing from my feet and what have I done with them? I assumed that whomever removed my anti clot gizmos that they put on my legs removed them. Just put another pair on lady!! I was then told by my nurse that her boss waher when my ride was coming to get me. I was denied anything for pain and was told I refused pain meds in recovery. They must have asked me while I was still asleep. I had never had such a negative experience at this facility and I find it deplorable. I hope to never be a patient here. They don't deserve my business and this good Catholic hospital needs to reevaluate its philosophy on patient care!!!!! By the way, my daughter sprung me out of that hell hole around 2pm. This place did surgery on me twice and I'm still alive, though their food sucks. Like seriously bring your own if you come here. I came here for surgery though and they fixed me and I didn't die. Like I could have since I needed one emergency surgery and would have died. Also, the nurses are lovely, even the male ones who had to help me get up to go to the bathroom. My Grandmother was brought to this hospital for an angiogram (she was walking and fully functional when arriving). When she left almost a week later we had many unanswered questions, truths were omitted, she is on oxygen, can barely walk and has lost sight in her one eye (and that's not even all of it). My mother has been trying to care for her full time since and doesn't understand what happened and why. She wasn't allowed to be in the hospital with her, even when things went bad. There is negligence/non-communication and just errors made here at every turn - with the doctor and staff. DO NOT, go to Franciscan Health Dyer. This has caused my family much pain and suffering. I wish for anyone else not to have to go through the same terrible experience. read more

Went to emergency at 10 pm last night bc my fiancé couldn't keep anything down, was throwing up, had the chills and sweat dripping down his face. Got there and they would not let us in bc some of his symptoms are the same as covid. They also told us we may have to go back to the car even though he was ready to pass out. A nurse finally came out after he repeatedly begged for help and was extremely rude and gave him attitude even though he was clearly in a lot of pain. I could not go back with him bc visitors are not allowed with covid concerns but he told me he was left in a very cold room shaking and they did not even give him a blanket. He was literally afraid he would die in that room and at one point passed out and had to be picked up from the floor. The staff was again very rude to him, telling him to shut up when he asked for a blanket. The only time he said he was treated like a human being was when the doctor spoke to him. Meanwhile, I'm sitting in the waiting for over 2 hours and nobody bothers to let me know how he's doing or what's going on. Another man in the waiting room was in soo much pain, he had to lay on the floor. The person he was with asked for a blanket so he wouldn't be laying on the cold floor and was refused. She had to demand to speak to a supervisor before they finally brought one out. Another man's wife was brought in by ambulance and he repeatedly asked for 2 hours what was happening with her bc he did not even know if she was still alive. After 2 hours, he demanded to speak with a supervisor or nurse in charge to tell him what was happening. They finally got someone who then informed him she was not told his wife's family was there waiting. I also had to demand to speak with someone after 3 hours of waiting to find out what was happening with my fiancé. This is, by far, the worst healthcare facility I've ever been to with the rudest staff. Every other place I've been to knew how to treat people with compassion and kindness and to keep the family updated. My fiancé said even if he was dying that he never wanted to be brought there again. Definitely recommend to choose a better hospital with a better trained staff. People generally go to emergency rooms for serious health reasons and do not need to deal with rude staff members during a time they are in a lot of pain and very afraid. read more

My son went to the metal health center for help and even though he was homicidal and schizophrenic they refused to admit him. He ended up threading me and getting dropped off in Chicago Heights. The evaluator said they couldn't help him. He even has insurance. Please take your family or someone you care about to a hospital that cares about humanity. I just hope he doesn't hurt someone or as far as I am concerned the hospital is partly responsible. It's very frustrating when you ask for help and can't get it. read more

After an unfortunate injury, we ended up here. From the initial emergency room visit to the follow up with the surgeon and then to the surgery itself, we had nothing but the most professional Healthcare we've ever experienced. Every nurse and doctor here that we encountered seemed to have a genuine concern with a patient's well-being. Every aspect of what needed to be done was fully explained and there was EXCELLENT follow-through to make sure everything was done correctly and in a timely manner. There was good communication between the hospital and our insurance to get the proper approvals. made sure that the patients as well as those waiting for them were comfortable and well informed. This isn't the closest hospital to our home but it's definitely worth the few extra miles for the level of service you receive here. read more

We went last night with my dad who is 72 years old. He had low blood pressure & a fever of 102. They said they were going to admit him but instead he sat there from 11PM until 10AM. I think that is completely ridiculous! They should have let us know if it was too crowded. There were three people who left while we waited & we should have just taken him to a different hospital.
