ER is horrible . There wasn't anyone even here present like there weren't any patients or it wasn't like packed and the staff had attitudes like they got slammed or were extra busy .. I have had the unpleasant experience of having to visit Franciscan Hospital Olympia Fields emergency room twice in the last four months. I can't express enough how unpleasant the incident was on both visits. I will never go back. The word "Emergency" itself describes a sense of urgency! The service provided there is the complete opposite! They make you sit in a cold, loud, dirty waiting area for hours. I sat there a few days ago for four hours, waiting to see someone. When I asked the nurse at the check-in station how long the wait might be, she said it might be 3-4 more hours. I left. I was there for a diverticulitis attack, quickly losing lots of blood. People who were there for sprained ankles saw a doctor before me. I don't believe in cutting in line in front of someone, but my issue was more severe than a twisted ankle! My advice is that the hospital's CEO should go undercover and sit with those waiting to see an "Emergency" doctor and see firsthand the horrible, uncompassionate service that seems to be the standard practice at this hospital. There are many choices now regarding hospitals; this is one to avoid! read more

I had radiation under the direction of Dr. Luke Miller at this facility. The care I received was exemplary! The staff is fantastic. Valet parking is available and you are warmly welcomed when you walk through the door. I recently had a colonoscopy at Franciscan in Munster, I had a private room and excellent care pre and post procedure. A much better experience than those I have had at other hospitals. I would highly recommend this hospital. read more

If Franciscan is to monopolize the health care industry in Northwest Indiana and yet think they can treat people like cattle in the process, they may need a reality check. Try getting through to the right department and getting a live person to competently answer your questions the first time around? Try scheduling an appointment for a procedure or visit? One would have far better results getting an audience with the Pope than getting through to your physician or his staff. Roadblocks abound! My recent attempt at scheduling chemotherapy with the infusion nurse for a family member was as eye opening as the morning sun rising in the east. We were scheduled to begin her chemo this Wednesday as time was critically passing us by. Our Franciscan oncologist wanted the chemo to begin on Wednesday June 6th. Sadly, our doctor doesn't have the adequate backup to meet his needs. The infusion port was installed the day before and this inadequate infusion nurse was to meet us for chemo consultation but never appeared. No calls! No meeting her. Nothing! She gave us the dates and times the Chemo was to begin and when I checked, nothing was scheduled as should have been because she never came down to meet us when the port was installed. Instead, she turned the tables on us and basically called us liars! This nurse who is in charge of this chemo consultation is at fault and tried to pin the blame on us. Wrong! Incompetency is what happened here. Another delay! On June 12th, we had an MRI to be scheduled along with other procedures. The lady in charge of scheduling tells us we have a home Franciscan physical therapist scheduled that day and nothing else can be scheduled until that is removed. Asks me to inform the right Franciscan provider to remove that so that she can schedule the important medical procedures. HELLO! I don't work for Franciscan, you do! That's your job! When they do call you to give you instructions at home, they talk 240 words per minute. You would need a court stenographer to keep up with what is being said as you are suppose to write down all this vital information down at the same pace. Many of these people are elderly and are not the sharpest knife in the drawer anymore, show some compassion, empathy and concern, someday this could be you depending on others for vital help. If the good people of Northwest Indiana continue to sit back and accept this abysmal behavior without complaining or seeking recourse, it will be a sad, tragic day for those seeking medical attention. People's lives are at stake. These are our loved ones that we love dearly. Franciscan Network needs to be a more human and caring and compassionate if they are to dominate and control the region's health industry. read more

I went In This hospital in August for dehydration the nurses acted like student nurses in training there tags say r.n but they all acted like student nurses they read other people charts and come in and tell you you're a diabetic you're incontinent and yo had high cholesterol and they give out morphine like Tylenol when you're not in pain and one of these student old nurse gave me morphine after I told her I was not in pain they looked at someone else's chart from 2009 and told me I had high cholesterol it's 2022 so I told those students they were wrong when I finally was discharged my cholesterol is 49 that's my Hrlem good the good oneldl59 how is Lipitor a factor any way I'm still having a problem and I'm afraid to call for an ambulance fearing to go back there I would not recommend this hospital for a dog read more

UPDATE: Still waiting, they just called a patient who basically skipped to the back. We asked why and they said they call most severe first. Sister is doubled over in pain. Maybe gas hurts more than cancer?? WORST HOSPITAL IN THE AREA!!! I've been in the er with my sister who has CANCER for 2 1/2 HOURS!!! They took her back for triage an hour ago then stuck her back in the waiting room. She asked isn't there a room? The triage nurse said if there was my waiting room would be empty. REALLY??!! HORRIBLE WAY TO TREAT A PERSON!!! Personally, I will die in the street before ever coming here. SERIOUSLY!!! 1 Star only because I had to choose. read more

I had a wound and they call me in and they gave a band aid and make go to the waiting room again we for a hour and and they called me in and they put me in a room and cleaned the wound and left and a nurse said that I ripped a muscle but when t he doctor came she said it was fat and she said she will numb me waited two hours and she came but need to find the medical waited for 15 minutes and she did it and gave Stitches it only took 10 minutes to do it and we left my mom was mad because it took 10 minutes to do it and waited for four hours but the best nurse was candy read more

After and hour and a half we demanded a doctor who finally came in and said they were super busy...WHAT?!? Phone operator Harriett was the nastiest and most unprofessional person I have ever talked to over the phone. She was incredibly rude from hanging up the phone, her tone, and her inability to redirect my call. I called on 11/07/20 and Harriet was so nasty that I called back multiple times attempting to get her name and her boss name and she refused several times to either give me her name or get me in contact with someone of authority. All I needed was my call transferred to whomever in charge of covid testing cause I had a question. To think that people with medical concerns and questions about their health having to deal with this type of operator is unacceptable. I hope something is done! read more

As a nurse of nearly 30 years, i say go elsewhere. The medical care is ok. There are some wonderful employees and some caring staff. The lack of communication and follow through is a significant concern though and added stress to an already difficult situation. End of life/comfort care was in progress. Visitation was expanded per nurse supervisor. Reception claims to not get this message. Family not allowed in and turned away. After it gets worked out and staff/ reception/security made ware, again, and reminded of this, it is only good for a shift. Then the next shift, you go through this all over. Staff has amnesia. Fransiscan is a catholic organization that lacks heart and compassion for family. Reception lacks a heart and is forgetful Security stinks. Interdepartmental communication is lacking. Those staff that were kind were thanked. For those heartless staff with amnesia, your behaviors, lies, and cold heart made a difficult situation worse. read more

I want to provide a review for the office of Dr. Jay S. Hwang. My husband called his office in December because he was having some pain in his pelvic area. The doctor was able to squeeze him in and we came up with a treatment plan to try to address the issue since he couldn't find what the problem was. He suggested we do bloodwork, schedule an office procedure, get a CT Scan and gave us a prescription. The issue came in when we starting calling his office to confirm the date and time of the office procedure. I called 4 times to try to get the information but didn't receive a call back at all then we receive a call that we missed the apt and had to push to get it rescheduled and no one even wanted to address the fact that we received no phone call back for all the previous messages that I left. We finally got in to see the doctor and have the medical procedure done then we were told that we need to schedule the CT scan which we did and now we are told that we need to come in and pay for another round of blood tests because the radiologist is requesting prior to the CT scan or they can't perform the procedures. No explanation at all just it has to be done. WTF? you call us two days before the procedure to request blood work. Why were we not told the bloodwork was only good for 30 days and given no explanation for it. My husband is still in pain and we have to find another urologist in our network who understands and respects his patients pain and time. read more

Apparently, even though she told me to call her back at the end of the day or in the morning, my name showing up on her caller id annoyed her. Most of the times I did talk to her she was of no help and not willing "to go out of the box" to help me find the information I was looking for. Not her finances on the line, I guess. on friday, may 20, 2022, i went to the er at franciscan in munster, in with consistent chest pains. got there around 4:45pm. there were only five people there at the time. filled out paperwork and the woman said have a seat....someone will be with you shortly. usually with chest pains, they page ed immediately and a nurse comes to bring you into triage. we waited about 20 mins and the nurse called me in. she was extremely stressed and very busy. as she was getting my info, another nurse came in to do my ekg, blood pressure and temp. she said we'll have to put you back in the waiting area because we only have one (1) doctor here! all the beds were full in which she said this is a small hospital and we only have 10 beds! so x-ray comes to get me before going back in the waiting room. i would think that they would have given the ekg to the doctor to quickly look at to see if i'm threatening a heart attack or if it was something else. i explained to the woman at the front desk that i was having chest pains and stomach pains. i'm one month post-op surgery! the x-ray tech wheeled me back in the waiting area where it was literally five times the people there! so i waited and waited and waited.... only the lab tech came to take my bloodwork again after two hours! she then put me back in the waiting room where once again i waited and waited and waited with consistent chest pain. i said i'm not understanding how i'm still sitting here with chest pains and haven't been seen yet! a huge storm was coming and i decided that after four hours, i was leaving. i was in tears!!!!! i told the hsmmond police officer that i was leaving. i was able to check mychart, but i don't understand what the results mean :( i went home with the same chest pains and i cried and cried.... winding why i was treated like that! maybe it's because i have outstanding balances i haven't paid because at the end of the day, it's about the almighty dollar and not people! i will never ever go to franciscan hospital in munster again! that was ridiculously sad!!!!!! read more

My mother was taken to this hospital at 4:30 in the morning because Franciscan in Dyer was full. We were told by ambulance service that she would be taken to Munster Community, but received a call from brother riding in the ambulance that it was actually Franciscan Hospital in Munster. Why??? No answer provided. Unfortunately, they were also full and she sat in the emergency room until 7:30pm for a room. Taken up to the floor by someone who could barely steer the bed. Had to keep help her from hitting the walls. Then, once in the room, we spent 20 minutes answering the same questions posed to us by the nurse that were answered in the ER and are also readily available in her medical records. The next day, at 10:45am, she was told orders would be written for discharge. At 1pm, the head nun/nurse said she was working on getting the paperwork completed. At 3pm, still waiting, but the nun was nice enough to pop her head into the room to give us an update -- she would complete after she had her lunch. What lousy customer service!!!! I hope the nun enjoyed her lunch! read more
