There was a $180 balance on his account and their "policy" is to cut patients off and not see them anymore. Not knowing that there was a balance, we offered to pay plus the cost of the upcoming appointment. NOPE. Only a referral. Super. How empathic in a person's time of need. This doctor is a quack. They don't care about your mental health. Just $$$$.

The results are to be used for a competency hearing, and my mother wants to see her test. Given that she no longer drives, my mother called Dr. Alamir's office and asked that her medical records be released so she could evaluate them. They refused. Kathy, Dr. Alamir's office manager, cited HIPAA regulations and insisted my mother make a written request. This strict interpretation of HIPAA created a barrier for my mother to attain her records in a timely manner, and I explained this to Kathy, but she was unsympathetic. Despite the fact that my mother has limited access to transportation and does not use a computer, Kathy then insisted that my mother fill out their designated office medical release form rather than merely writing a letter with the relevant release information. I had to have Kathy email me the release form and then send it to my mother's caretaker who received it on July 20, 2016. My mother managed to get the forms filled out, signed them, and then had them delivered back to Dr. Alamir's office on July 24, 2016 by her caretaker. Regardless of the signed form, Kathy still refused to release the records, this time saying that Dr. Alamir is now on vacation. Kathy contends that my mother's medical records will not be released until Dr. Alamir gives his permission, which apparently cannot or will not be given while he is on vacation. When I explained that my mother has the right to receive her medical records in a timely manner and that the office is creating a hardship for her, Kathy again refused to release the records and cited their "office policy" of non-release until the doctor gives his permission. This is of course completely irrelevant to HIPAA, and seemed like a stalling tactic. I told Kathy I would file a complaint; she said, "We have nothing else to talk about," and hung up the phone. This doctor is acting in disregard for a patient's welfare; he is unresponsive, and he is using HIPAA and his own arbitrary office policy as excuses to detain my mother's medical records. Moreover, all this stalling makes it seem that Dr. Alamir may be deliberately drawing out the process of releasing the medical records so my mother does not have time to challenge the results of his testing. I have tried to reach him repeatedly to rectify this situation, but he remains unresponsive.

My normal doctor wasn't able to fit me in before I left on vacation so I tried calling around the area to find someone who could. This place was the first to agree to accept an appointment within the same week, and from the service I experienced, now I understand why they aren't seeing a lot of business. The receptionist I spoke with was very cordial; she took my insurance info, told me she wasn't able to match me with a doctor of the preferred sex on short notice (which was understandable), and said I'd be meeting with "Ed." The day before my appointment I got a call saying, oops, they don't accept my insurance after all. I felt pressured the cancel the appointment. When I told them I'd be keeping it after all because there was no way I could find someone else less than a week before I went abroad, they sounded incredulous. On the day of my appointment I showed up 15 minutes early. I waited more than half an hour to be checked in. When they finally called me up front, they asked what day I'd like to schedule my psychiatrist appointment. Perplexed, I said that was what I was there to do that day -- see Dr. Ed. They explained Ed isn't a doctor; he's an intake specialist, and that the doctor would not be willing to see me without an orientation with Ed first. Would've been nice to know before I committed to an appointment, took off work to come, and waited for half an hour. If I saw the intake specialist that day, I could come back in for a real appointment next week sometime. This would, of course, cost me twice as much (off of insurance) since it was two separate sessions. When I asked them reasonably to be flexible being that 1) I was never informed of any of this and 2) was leaving the country that week, the receptionist (a different one) became highly defensive and claimed whoever made the appointment would have properly informed me of their process. When I respectfully disagreed, she accused me of being deaf. I asked to see an office supervisor and she shut the window in my face. I left unsure of whether the preliminary appointment was still on. My experience can't be an anomaly; they seem to have the process of strong-arming new patients into attending multiple appointments fine-tuned. I cant speak to the quality of their doctors because I was never actually allowed to see one. This place is a racket and is staffed by the rudest people. Would not recommend wasting your time at an office where the people working there seem to need help more than the patients.

I contacted my new insurance company and asked what the hold up was and was informed they sent the approval papers over to my doctor but he never signed and returned them. I called the office of my doctor and complained due to having to wait 2 weeks for this office to communicate with my insurance company. 2. During this pandemic we did virtual appointments. The doctor face-times me and we have our appointment. When my appointment day came I received no call from the doctors office. After this and the insurance incident I decided to not reschedule and no longer be their patient.
