Good work, fair price, and when it came to picking colors and frames, better taste than mine.

His framing studio is transformed after hours. He pushes back some of the displays and makes room for tables and easels. People filter through, bringing food and drinks to share, works in progress to continue, and art supplies in tow. It's a chill vibe and low-pressure way to scratch creative itches. Many paint, others work with other mediums like charcoal. Jim bounces from student to student offering help and critique, helping you figure out how to solve a problem you're having with your piece as you go. He has a room of art supplies you can buy from if you run out of something or need something else, which is super convenient. If you're new to art or to a medium, Jim has some trials and process to how he helps folks build up the basics. Everyone in the class has done them before graduating to painting. I'm nervous even admitting this because people may take up all the spots, but I truly believe in Jim's classes and know that many people also love his work for framing. Give this place a shot!

This place is run by Dan Tag and he's a stand-up guy…read more He's very personable and is the epitome of why I like to do business with small businesses. He's local, he's willing to work with me on price, and offers expert opinions on the overall outcome of my projects. For some background, I'll have an artist showcase at Good Karma Cafe on 9th and Pine Streets October, November, and December 2018. I'm displaying my photographs and I needed them framed. So I shopped around at Flying Pig picture frames at the recommendation of my coworker in addition Seven Arts in Old City, a framing shop in Rittenhouse, and Tap Gallery in South Jersey. Dan was by far the cheapest. He took one look at my photos and gave me a nice price. For reference, in Rittenhouse I was being quoted at roughly $100 per photo after discounts with cheaper materials! What most resonated with me was that Dan was opinionated and insightful and had his own vision for my work. I'm brand new to Printing and framing my photos so ultimately I relied on the expertise of the framer. Dan recommended a basic black Gallery wooden frame with roughly 2 inches of white matting with a black line. No other framer had such a vision. I came to him suggesting an all white frame with all white matting and he said it really wouldn't work because I have too many whites in my photos. Again, I trust the guy and the end product was beautiful. Hopefully you can stop by Good Karma Cafe in the coming months to see his art as well as mine.
