Martha, the shop's extremely friendly owner, was really helpful in choosing the mat and frames for both of our projects. Her ideas really helped bring out some of the colors and the styles of pictures to give us a really professional looking finished product. My experience with framing is that it is usually pretty expensive to have something custom framed, but I didn't feel like her prices were out of line with other shops I have visited. The customer service and quick turn around definitely made me feel like I got my monies worth. The shop itself is full of knicknacks and unique gifts. While I didn't purchase any of these items at either of my visits, there are plenty of options if you are looking for a non-frame related gift - little signs with all kinds of saying, picture frames, wall hangings, ornaments - you name it, she has it. And her two friendly dogs were a welcome surprise to see as we browsed the shop. My wife & I will definitely come back here next time we need to frame something or if we need to find a gift.

Wish this Michael's in particular would move to an abandon mall section with upstairs to have an entire section of fabric. That would be a game changer for a lot of people. I think the particular thing that really bothers me is the fact a lot of things are locked up and there is never anyone on the floor to help. Maybe shopping online is the thing now because no one is on the floor to help. Prices are okay but I really wish they had more craft related stuff rather than just decor and frames. Michael's is pretty much for fine art and frames. Every other craft they have fails in quality and supply.

His framing studio is transformed after hours. He pushes back some of the displays and makes room for tables and easels. People filter through, bringing food and drinks to share, works in progress to continue, and art supplies in tow. It's a chill vibe and low-pressure way to scratch creative itches. Many paint, others work with other mediums like charcoal. Jim bounces from student to student offering help and critique, helping you figure out how to solve a problem you're having with your piece as you go. He has a room of art supplies you can buy from if you run out of something or need something else, which is super convenient. If you're new to art or to a medium, Jim has some trials and process to how he helps folks build up the basics. Everyone in the class has done them before graduating to painting. I'm nervous even admitting this because people may take up all the spots, but I truly believe in Jim's classes and know that many people also love his work for framing. Give this place a shot!
